Topic: The Effects of Unresolved Trauma on Parenting Parental emotion regulation and coping skills in dealing with stressful events in life have a significant impact on the child’s emotional and social development, especially during infancy and early school years. Children typically learn to regulate their emotions better if their parents manage their own stress well. In contrast, unsupportive, distressed parenting can induce less effort in children to regulate their emotions and use effective coping skills in response to stress. We will discuss the unresolved effects of trauma when it comes to parenting with guest momologist and Behavior Specialist, Marcella Tarpley   Guest Momologist: Marcella Tarpley A native Californian and educator for over 20 years, Marcella Ann Tarpley is currently a Behavior Support Specialist for the Moreno Valley Unified School District. She holds two Master’s Degrees, one in Special Education and the other in Teaching. She has taught students with disabilities in grades 3-12 and has also had various positions outside the field of education as a restaurant manager, nanny, secretary, and mail handler. She currently is working on her doctorate degree and a license in clinical psychology.  To continue her efforts on behalf of foster youth, she currently serves as a board member for Kamalii Foster Family Agency where she donates her time and resources teaching foster youth how to sew. She was the recipient of the 2015 Riverside County Office of Education Site Support Staff of the Year Award. In the community she is well known for her advocacy efforts in training parents, social service professionals, and educators on how to maximize student success. Casie Goshow (aka B-Girl 'Tynee') is an anomaly. At first glimpse she is a pretty, tiny (or I guess I should say Tynee), sweet-as-pie, bubbly girl. But I dare you to look her up on Youtube. Casie will full on take your breath away with the power with which she dances. She hits every move so hard and is fully committed in every moment. Not only is Casey a sweetheart and kick-ass hip-hop/breakdancer and choreographer, but she is also a dedicated teacher both locally and nationwide, traveling frequently to teach at dance conventions. Oh, and I can't forget to add entrepreneur to her title. Casie owns her own clothing line, Goshow Yourself, which she created in response to the bullying occurring around the country. Casie wanted a clothing line that would inspire people of all different backgrounds to have the courage and confidence to be themselves. A writer inspired by the conflicting impulses just under the surface in all of us, Greg Chandler is known for his vision of a gothic, neo-noir suburbia.  He creates a dark world, violent yet funny, familiar yet hypnotically exotic.  A rough, tough world, that surprises with its compassion and lack of cynicism.    Chandler's first feature script, Leather, about a sexually ambiguous sandal-maker living in modern upstate New York, was directed by Patrick McGuinn.  A cult following has grown around Leather.     His second feature script, A Night of Nightmares, a female-centered, character-driven horror film directed by Buddy Giovinazzo, garnered excellent reviews at the 2013 Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal and at London's FrightFest.    His script Marrow won 1st Runner Up at the 2015 Independent Filmmakers Showcase in Los Angeles.  His script, Rancho Mirage, about a cult-like trio of criminals deep in the California desert who storm into the life of an aging Hollywood star, has also earned awards at film festivals.      Chandler's passion for Los Angeles history, punk rock of the 70s and 80s, romantic crooners of the 40s, true crime, the occult, and people with a loose grip on reality, finds its way into everything he creates.   Currently, he is working on Tynee, a horror script to be directed by David Jacobson.  Tynee was a feature screenplay finalist at the 2016 Shriekfest and at the 2016 Williamsburg International Film Festival.   Chandler was born in Santa Monica and raised in the LA suburb of Arcadia before earning degrees at USC and Columbia University.  He lives in Pasadena, CA.
