Bob's Short English Lessons
Learn the English Phrases "more or less" and "less is more"

Bob's Short English Lessons

Read along to practice your English and to learn the English phrases MORE OR LESS and LESS IS MOREIn this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase more or less. In English, when we say more or less, it means almost or sort of. If you asked me if I was done cleaning my house, I might say more or less. That means I have most of the work done. Maybe there's a couple little things here and there that I still need to clean up, but I'm kind of done cleaning the house, more or less. Another example would be, if I was packing for a trip, you could say, hey, are you done packing? And I could say more or less. This means that I got out my suitcases, and I packed my clothes and some soap and a toothbrush, and I'm pretty much done packing. I'm close to being done packing. I'm more or less done packing, but I probably still want to check things. So when you say more or less, it means something is kind of done or sort of done. I was going to say more or less done, but I don't want to use the term to define the term.WANT FREE ENGLISH LESSONS? GO TO YOUTUBE AND SEARCH, "BOB THE CANADIAN"If you enjoy these lessons please consider supporting me at: http://www.patreon.com/bobthecanadianThe other phrase I wanted to teach you today is the phrase less is more. In English, when we say less is more, it means that sometimes doing a few simple things is better than doing a whole bunch of complex things. A good example would be to wash your vehicle. Sometimes just a little bit of water with some soap in it is all you need. You don't need a whole bunch of expensive products. Sometimes less is more. You can use this to describe a job as well. Sometimes in teaching, if I try to do 20 or 30 things with a class, they might not remember all of it. So sometimes less is more. Sometimes it's better to do about two or three things well, and then everyone remembers what you did. So sometimes less is more.So to review, more or less means almost or sort of. So, are you almost done this video, Bob? More or less? Actually, less than more on that one, that was probably a bad example. If it was close to the end of the video, I could say more or less. And if you say less is more, it simply means that sometimes doing two or three parts of a process well is better than doing ten or 15 things badly. Sometimes less is more. Did I say more is less? Less is more. It's a little distracting out here, but, hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video. This comment is all crumpled up in my pocket. Let me find it here. This comment is from can't get the paper open. See, I'm struggling here. Hello. How are you? Good. How are you? Good. How do I get to Service Ontario. I think I've driven past it. How do you get to service Ontario? It's actually right over there, just on the other side of the pharmacy. So I can park here? You can actually, if you go out the back of this parking lot and go around, there's a little parking lot right there. And then walk back to this road and it's right on the corner. Thanks very much. Yep. You're welcome.Hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video. Sometimes you have to help someone find Service Ontario. That's where you renew your license. This is from the.user-kun. As always, the optimistic Bob, wonderful lesson. Thumbs up for you. And my response, you're welcome. So, yes, optimism. I am a fairly optimistic person. I think I've mentioned this a lot on my live streams. Sometimes people will say, Bob, you seem very positive. You seem like a very optimistic person. And my response is always this, as long as I'm eating healthy food, as long as I'm getting eight or 9 hours of sleep every night, and as long as I'm getting some exercise, either walking or shooting my bow and arrow, that's good exercise, by the waySupport the show

So I'm on the train to California. On the way to live in my dream. I guess I'm already living the dream because I'm already in California. A little bit nervous crossing the border, I only had one hour sleep because I couldn't sleep. And so it was pretty rough, I was feeling bad about leaving. Now that I'm over the border, and I'm actually in California on the train, I feel good. And last night, I slept probably five or six hours, so it wasn't too bad. Considering I was sleeping on a train. I've taken this trip twice before. So I already knew that I liked the train ride, very relaxing. I'm in seat number one in the very back car, very back of the train. For right now I'm in the observation car and I just got a coffee. And I'm just wondering. And I'm just wondering if I'll ever stop wandering. I was feeling like, I was feeling like, I didn't want to leave my family and friends. But now that I've left, I feel good. Not that I won't miss people, I definitely will. But I feel like I made the right choice. And I packed up my place. And it's still there for me. But I don't know if we'll be gone a couple months or more than a couple of months. And I was talking in my last video about whether I'll be continuing to talk about mental health. And on the way down, I was reading the book on dialogue by David Boehm brought my noble character to talk about stuff, maybe I'll go get it after. But he was talking about dialogue. And he was actually talking about how important it is to have dialogue. And even if there's two different factions of a group, it's important for them to have dialogue. And if you can't have dialogue with them, perhaps some dialogue about them, not about them in opposition, but in about what one feels their meanings are. And it sort of made me think about my views on this whole mental health thing versus views of the mental illness paradigm. And I don't think they're totally mutually exclusive for them. The other thing he said was, if you can't do either if you can't have a dialogue with the other group or with yourself with your group about the concerns of the other group, and just have dialogue with yourself. And I thought that was really interesting, because that's what I've been doing since pretty much a year now actually. Because I made a couple of videos before I was hospitalized last year. And I was talking very lucidly and coherently and then I was hospitalized. And I've been listening to what I was talking about in June, after I was hospitalized last year in July, and oddly enough, I don't really mention too much about what happened. I think I was just too traumatized to say much about it. Though I didn't listen to two of them. So I might have talked about it more in the other videos, but I'm finding myself still having my brain go to mental health because actually think is the same phenomenon of consciousness of these changes in consciousness is just a change in consciousness. That happens to be called mental illness. Because the other side of that change can be terrifying. Then it's turned into this lifelong, terrifying personal problem. And I've already talked about that a million times. I'm hoping to continue to have dialogue about it with myself in new ways. I made some notes on what he was saying and that's all dialogue book. And even in the few videos I've watched of my own. I was surprised I was even talking about people acting as a whole organism together, which is the whole teal organization thing, which is something that I just discovered. So I guess the concepts are already out there. People have already already discovered these things matter of perhaps just having dialogue. So I'm really hoping to be able to participate in dialogues. And not always refer to mental health stuff. But I might be, I might be thinking a bit in terms of mental health stuff in my mind, but maybe I can translate it as I speak to I don't know. The other thing I have to be careful of is that where I'm going, I don't know, if they have a lot of Wi Fi, or what I'm trying to say is I can't make gigabytes full of video and have them upload to the cloud, I might have to get an external hard drive. The one I was gonna bring, broke, has all my pictures on it, so tough to figure that one out. So I should be careful not to make my videos too long, so they don't get stuck in the cloud or things like that just be really quick, and concise. For now. I just wanted to do a video showing that on my way to living the dream, I don't really feel excited because it just feels natural, just feels right. Maybe that's one of the reasons why we get kind of excited, so called psychosis in a not so good way, because just things don't feel right. This world doesn't feel right. And I don't know how to make it feel right. But this is embodiment here. All the stuff I was talking about. And even in my first videos that I was listening to, before I took that job, that extra job. I was saying I don't know if I should work in mental health. And I was even saying I quit my other job in mental health, which I actually did end up taking back. So this is me putting mental health for a number of months, though I might still be having it on the brain. There's just a lot of garbage along the train route with garbage, old factory stuff, old industry that probably was active 10 or 20 years ago. So just within 10 or 20 years, things are just a big heaping mess of garbage. Whereas if the land was living in 10, or 20 years be flourishing. Anyway. So yeah, I'm not sure how much I get so many videos or if I want to, I think that I will, I think that I want to continue with self dialogue. Maybe some people will be willing to dialogue, on video together, because I do know that leading up to leaving, I was just really missing people. And when I was around people, I felt I felt fine. When I was just by myself, I didn't feel fine. And it's not an insecurity thing. Because I actually do really enjoy my own company. I think it's just part of how we're wired as human beings to be around people in dialogue, in friendship in community. And that's the thing about recovery. It's always Well, once you get your own place and you have your own little individual space and blah, blah, blah, these definitions of society will then you're recovered. Well. That doesn't always work long term for people. We're actually wired to be with other people. And not just in a romantic way with family and having our own family. That's one way to go about it, but it's not the only waySupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/bipolar_inquiry. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Riverside.fm claims to be "The easiest way to record podcasts and videointerviews in studio quality from anywhere. All from your browser." Guests and producers join with one click. All from your Chrome browser on laptop or desktop. They also have an iOs app. They do have some interesting features. You can have up to 8 people on a session. It records the audio and video separately (in WAV for the audio and in 4K for the video) and uploads the recordings while you are recording (so you do fill up someone's hard drive). It also has tools to share previously uploaded video and audio, you can use their magic editing tool that according to their website, "Compose your video in 4 easy steps: Add your media, set your audio and video settings, customize your video, and export. It's that easy!"They also have an AI tool that will switch the audio in the video to anyone who is talking (similar to the old days of Google Hangouts RIP). I'm going to give this a shot on my Ask the Podcast Coach show. If this works well, I may cancel my streamyard subscription. Streamyard IS BETTER for streaming, but I have situations with shows like the Podcast Review Show where Separate audio and video would give me more flexibility. Their pricing starts at $9/month. The plan I will be using is $19/month.Check out this VideoSchool of Podcasting The ultimate resource for learning how to podcast the right way Create a great-looking website for your podcast with ZERO coding.Try it for free for 7 Days at www.trypodpage.comSchool of Podcasting The ultimate resource for learning how to podcast the right waySupport the show

Yes, the cards are cheaper when you buy 1000 cards, but that is A LOT of cards. I would start with 200-300 cards. While there are other platforms that try to be everything to everybody (kajabi) one of those items is going to be "not so great." When I looked at a Kajabi demo, their community tool looked like a forum from 1995. Circle does one thing (Creating a Modern Community) and it does it so well. It has been around about a year and is gaining lots of steam as it is listening to its users and giving them what they want. What they do is it integrates into the platform you already have.  For example, if you have a course you can paste a snippet of code into your course for people to ask questions and comment. That will appear in the course, AND it will be in the community area. Some homework:1. Google the phrase "Facebook lawsuits."2. Go into Facebook and see how many groups you've sign up for and never returned. While you may have fewer members in Circle, the people who are there WANT To be there. You get a smaller, more engaged, community. With their integration tools (and in some cases single sign-on) it can be seamless. If you're looking to build a community, this is THE tool. We're back!  When all was said and done, the Great American Cattle drive chalked up 8,500 miles, 22 states, 38 days and a partridge in a pear tree.  And everything the caretakers (nieces and nephews) were in charge of was still alive upon our return – plus a few extra as-yet-to-be-determined biting things inhabiting the house.  We still don't know what those are, but we do know that when things change in nature – subtractions (us) and additions (the kids) – it can sometimes impact everyone's general environment until the balance is once more restored. The Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah, Iowa is working on just this “balance” concept.  This non-profit organization not only saves seeds, grains, fruits, berries and other crops, but it redistributes them, too, so their diversity can bring the elasticity needed to not only a healthy ecosystem, but a healthy food supply.  One of the things they do well is to look at the big picture, which is why their Homestead Farm also is using heritage animals as well as plants.  In this case, the animal breed is one that we've been wanting to see for about 3 years now, and a cross-country trip through Iowa was just the opportunity. Jim Edrington, the Facilities Manager at Seed Savers, took us right into the fields with the wonderfully (somewhat still) wild Ancient White Park Cattle (We're not sure he had all of those cute calves out there just for great footage, but we'd like to think so).  This very rare breed is one of the most genetically distinct in the cattle world.  It has a history in the thousands-of-years-range, and the recent stuff in their lineage reads like an action thriller as well.  That's pretty apt, as they're still one of the less-domesticated domesticated breeds of cattle out there, and are definitely not for beginners.  Their calm but wary demeanor was in full view when we visited, and it was easy to imagine these beauties on the pastures and in the forests of England eluding the nobles that hunted them as game.  Self-sufficient, thrifty, great foragers, excellent mothers, and apparently not cowed (ha) by an ATV carrying a film crew in their pasture.  These are the perfect pasture restoration and conservation grazing animals for the Seed Savers Exchange, and they are doing that job beautifully.  Links:https://exchange.seedsavers.org/ https://www.seedsavers.org/visit https://www.seedsavers.org/contact https://www.linkedin.com/in/jim-edrington-2b8b1340 http://www.bbar.com/Stewardship/white-park-cattle https://www.rbst.org.uk/white-park http://afs.okstate.edu/breeds/cattle/whitepark/index-2.html http://afs.okstate.edu/breeds/cattle/britishwhite http://afs.okstate.edu/breeds/cattle/americanwhitepark/index.html/ https://livestockconservancy.org/index.php/heritage/internal/ancient-white-park https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/life-uh-finds-a-waySupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/agriCulturePodcast)
