Renewal isn't just fresh vision or passion—it's also a painful shedding of sin, pride, and your false self. When life hits—when the diagnosis comes, the relationship ends, the silence of God feels deafening—your theology will show up. Whether you realize it or not, the beliefs you've built in the quiet seasons will become the framework you lean on in the storms. In this episode, pastors Whit George and Blake Zimmerman explore shame, guilt, and performance, the beliefs that make us Christians, and personal experiences of renewal through suffering. Pastor Whit continues our teaching series, Ruth: Ruth 3v1-18 1 Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, should I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you? 2 Is not Boaz our relative, with whose young women you were? See, he is winnowing barley tonight at the threshing floor. 3 Wash therefore and anoint yourself, and put on your cloak and go down to the threshing floor, but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. 4 But when he lies down, observe the place where he lies. Then go and uncover his feet and lie down, and he will tell you what to do.” 5 And she replied, “All that you say I will do.” 6 So she went down to the threshing floor and did just as her mother-in-law had commanded her. 7 And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. Then she came softly and uncovered his feet and lay down. 8 At midnight the man was startled and turned over, and behold, a woman lay at his feet! 9 He said, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth, your servant. Spread your wings over your servant, for you are a redeemer.” 10 And he said, “May you be blessed by the Lord, my daughter. You have made this last kindness greater than the first in that you have not gone after young men, whether poor or rich. 11 And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you ask, for all my fellow townsmen know that you are a worthy woman. 12 And now it is true that I am a redeemer. Yet there is a redeemer nearer than I. 13 Remain tonight, and in the morning, if he will redeem you, good; let him do it. But if he is not willing to redeem you, then, as the Lord lives, I will redeem you. Lie down until the morning.” 14 So she lay at his feet until the morning, but arose before one could recognize another. And he said, “Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing floor.” 15 And he said, “Bring the garment you are wearing and hold it out.” So she held it, and he measured out six measures of barley and put it on her. Then she went into the city. 16 And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “How did you fare, my daughter?” Then she told her all that the man had done for her, 17 saying, “These six measures of barley he gave to me, for he said to me, ‘You must not go back empty-handed to your mother-in-law.'” 18 She replied, “Wait, my daughter, until you learn how the matter turns out, for the man will not rest but will settle the matter today.” Did you love this message? Pastor Chris continues our teaching series, Ruth: Ruth 1:19–2:13 ESV 19 So the two of them went on until they came to Bethlehem. And when they came to Bethlehem, the whole town was stirred because of them. And the women said, “Is this Naomi?” 20 She said to them, “Do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. 21 I went away full, and the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi, when the Lord has testified against me and the Almighty has brought calamity upon me?” 22 So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabite her daughter-in-law with her, who returned from the country of Moab. And they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest. 1 Now Naomi had a relative of her husband's, a worthy man of the clan of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz. 2 And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I shall find favor.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.” 3 So she set out and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers, and she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the clan of Elimelech. 4 And behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem. And he said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you!” And they answered, “The Lord bless you.” 5 Then Boaz said to his young man who was in charge of the reapers, “Whose young woman is this?” 6 And the servant who was in charge of the reapers answered, “She is the young Moabite woman, who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab. 7 She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves after the reapers.' So she came, and she has continued from early morning until now, except for a short rest.” 8 Then Boaz said to Ruth, “Now, listen, my daughter, do not go to glean in another field or leave this one, but keep close to my young women. 9 Let your eyes be on the field that they are reaping, and go after them. Have I not charged the young men not to touch you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink what the young men have drawn.” 10 Then she fell on her face, bowing to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?” 11 But Boaz answered her, “All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told to me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before. 12 The Lord repay you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!” 13 Then she said, “I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not one of your servants.” John 16:33 NIV ...“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Ruth 1:19-21 ESV 19 So the two of them went on until they came to Bethlehem. Why call me Naomi, when the Lord has testified against me and the Almighty has brought calamity upon me?” Add Notes John 9:1–3 ESV 1 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. Ruth 1:6 ESV Then she arose with her daughters-in-law to return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the fields of Moab that the Lord had visited his people and given them food. Ruth 1:22 ESV So Naomi returned... Ruth 2:1–3 ESV 1 Now Naomi had a relative of her husband's, a worthy man of the clan of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz. Proverbs 16:9 ESV The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. Mark 10:29-30 ESV 29 Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, 30 who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. Ruth 2:10-13 ESV 10 Then she fell on her face, bowing to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?” 11 But Boaz answered her, “All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told to me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before. 12 The Lord repay you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!” 13 Then she said, “I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not one of your servants.” Did you love this message? Pastor Whit begins a new teaching series in the Book of Ruth: Ruth 1v1 ESV In the days when the judges ruled... Judges 21v25 ESV In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes. Ruth 4v17 ESV They named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David. Ruth 1v1 ESV In the days when the judges ruled there was a famine in the land... Genesis 12v10 ESV Now there was a famine in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land. Genesis 26v1-2 ESV 1 Now there was a famine in the land, besides the former famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Gerar to Abimelech king of the Philistines. 2 And the Lord appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land of which I shall tell you." Genesis 46v3-4 ESV 3 Then he said, “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation. 4 I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again..." Ruth 1v1-2 ESV 1 In the days when the judges ruled there was a famine in the land, and a man of Bethlehem in Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons. 2 The name of the man was Elimelech and the name of his wife Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah. They went into the country of Moab and remained there. Ruth 1v3-5 ESV 3 But Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, died, and she was left with her two sons. 4 These took Moabite wives; the name of the one was Orpah and the name of the other Ruth. They lived there about ten years, 5 and both Mahlon and Chilion died, so that the woman was left without her two sons and her husband. Ruth 1v16-17 ESV 16 But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. 17 Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the Lord do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.” Ruth 1v19 ESV So the two of them went on until they came to Bethlehem. And when they came to Bethlehem, the whole town was stirred because of them. And the women said, “Is this Naomi?” Ruth 1v22 ESV So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabite her daughter-in-law with her, who returned from the country of Moab. And they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest. Did you love this message? Pastor Whit begins our new teaching series, How to Hear God. Hebrews 1v1-3 ESV 1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 1 John 1v1 NIV That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. Luke 24v32 NIV They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” John 10v27 ESV My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. This weekend, Pastor Whit concluded our How to Be Human teaching series as we celebrated the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ on Easter. Matthew 7:13-14, 24-29 ESV 13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. 24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” 28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29 for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes. Matthew 13:44 ESV “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy, he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field." Matthew 16:24-25 ESV 24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." John 15:5 ESV I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. Did you love this message? This weekend, Pastor Whit continues through Jesus' teachings in His Sermon on the Mount in our current series, How To Be Human. This weekend, we talked about money, attention and your needs. Matthew 6:19-20 ESV 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:21 ESV For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:22-23 ESV 22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! Matthew 6:24 ESV “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.“ Matthew 6:25-33 ESV 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?' or ‘What shall we drink?' or ‘What shall we wear?' 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." This weekend, Pastor Whit continues through Jesus' teachings in His Sermon on the Mount in our current series, How To Be Human. This weekend, we talked about The Lord's Prayer. Matthew 6v5-8 5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Matthew 6v9-10 9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6v11-13 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Matthew 6v14-15 14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Pastor Whit continues through Jesus' teachings in His Sermon on the Mount in our current series, How To Be Human. This weekend, we talked about validation. Matthew 6v1-6 ESV 1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2 “Thus when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Matthew 6:16-18 ESV 16 “And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Matthew 5:16 ESV ...let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Pastor Whit continues through Jesus' teachings in His Sermon on the Mount in our current series, How To Be Human. This weekend, we talked about marriage and divorce. Matthew 5:31-32 ESV “It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” Did you love this message? Pastor Blake continues through Jesus' Sermon on the Mount in our teaching series, How To Be Human: Matthew 5:17-20 ESV “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:21-22 ESV “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment. But I say to you that everyone angry with his brother or sister will be liable to judgment…” Matthew 5:22 ESV ”But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!' will be liable to the hell of fire.“ Matthew 5:23-26 ESV "So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First, be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny." Matthew 5:27-28 ESV “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.“ Matthew 5:29-30 ESV “If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right-hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body goes into hell.” Did you love this message? Pastor Whit continues through the Beatitudes in our teaching series, How To Be Human: “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy." Matthew 5:7 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you." Matthew 5:9-12 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you." Matthew 6:1-4 Did you love this message? This is part 4 of our series on fasting called Fast Forward with our lead pastor Whit George. It's not how you start the race but how you finish that makes the difference. If you want to finish well look for an opportunity in adversity. God doesn't cause adversity but He can leverage it to slingshot us to a place we would never be otherwise. We serve a God who turns defeat into victory.
This is part three of our series all about making space for more of God called Fast Forward. Our lead pastor Whit George takes us through John 15 and explains that we were meant to stay connected to God by abiding in Him because apart from Him we can do nothing. But how do we stay connected to God when life challenges our trust?

Church On The Move's Lead Pastor Whit George visited us and dropped some wisdom on following Jesus step by step. Making uphill habits every day.
Everyone has had fleeting thoughts and questions about their faith, so what do you do with them? Maybe doubt wasn't welcomed in your church or family growing up. Often, that's because a lot of followers of Jesus only have one category for doubt... doubt = bad. When you lump all doubt together, you end up thinking that Jesus doesn't want your questions but that couldn't be further from the truth. In this episode, Whit George and Adam Bush discuss three categories of people and use them as a roadmap for what to do with our doubts.

Today, we're looking at the idea that, “Christians should be ready to defend their beliefs.” We like to call a statement like that a true lie. There's a hint of truth to it, but ultimately the idea has resulted in a misunderstood, broken concept … a true lie. It's unfortunate, but it's tough to have honest and open conversations with people these days. In this episode, Whit George and Adam Bush explore how to have conversations with people… even the people you may disagree with. Learn more about In Motion on churchonthemove.com/inmotion.
In this week's episode, Whit George and Adam Bush discuss the questions, “What's the point of pain?” “Why do bad things happen to good people?” We're looking at the idea that “if you follow Jesus, everything will be easy.” We like to call a statement like that a true lie. Because there's a hint of truth to it, but ultimately the idea has resulted in a misunderstood, broken concept … a true lie. In this episode, Whit and Adam talk about what to do when you don't know that everything will be alright. When you doubt that God is really good because what's happening to you is really bad. Often times, when younger leaders push for change, older leaders will struggle with allowing the change and not completely support them. You have to be willing to back your younger leaders' ideas like they were your own, and don't throw them under the bus if their ideas fall through. Relevancy is not as important as what the church's values are. Remember what your church is built upon, and don't try and change it just for the sake of making it more attractive for younger people. Whit expressed that his ultimate desire for church is for it to allow life change, and the “relevant” tools we use, such as lights and haze, are just that--tools. As long as they are working towards the goal of furthering God's Kingdom, then they will be utilized. Have extreme intentionality. Work hard, because you care. Everything you do has to have a reason behind it. Whit shared that he works hard because he is intentional with everything he does. Every worship set, graphic, and sermon series should be chosen with care and consideration. Always ask yourself, “Why am I doing this?” Quotes From This Episode: “People are naturally afraid of change.” - Whit George “Go slower than you think you need to...but don't move until you have complete conviction.” - Whit George “Young people are smart enough to be able to smell the same package wrapped in a different wrapper.” - Whit George “You have to care about the people of your community as much or more so as the people you already have.” - Whit George “Lights and smoke have never made anything relevant. Relevant is about what it means in your life.” - Whit George “A lot of people are allowing a model to create change rather than culture.” - Josh Gagnon “We have to be okay with the reality that there are churches that won't be like us that still work today.” - Josh Gagnon “The only thing that I care about is that what I'm working on works.” - Whit George “When we're wowed, we have a tendency to say ‘how?'...If you flip that around and you have a bad experience, you don't ask ‘how?' you just ask ‘why?'” - Whit George

NLC provided this for Ben. He admits that he did not agree on everything, but what he did agree on was NLC's commitment to making Jesus a priority and making Him known to everyone. Be bold about what we believe. Ben stated that he doesn't want church leaders to be fake; they should be upfront and lay everything out on the table so that no one is left guessing what their church believes. Ben also expressed that hearing where a church stands on [homosexuality]—in love—is more helpful and honorable to him than pretending that they don't have a stance at all. Surrender our agendas. Create a space for people, no matter what their background or issues. Ben believes that, for the most part, the church is pretty good at this in every other area but with gay people. We should take what we learned about dealing with people who face addictions and other struggles and apply it to this issue. Engage in these kinds of conversations. We need to be able to sit down and talk honestly as brothers and sisters in Christ, for the sake of those who don't know Christ yet. There will be situations when we encounter this issue on many different levels. Will our mission be to exalt the name of Jesus and allow the Holy Spirit to do a work in each of us, or otherwise? Quotes From This Episode: “Most gay Christians I know want to be seen as real and whole people with a whole set of issues, the least of which is their sexuality.” – Ben Dubow “I don't need a place where we agree on everything. I need a place where it's safe to be real and take my mask off.” – Ben Dubow “We're not going to agree on everything, and we don't have to agree on everything to respect one another and honor one another.” – Josh Gagnon “We need to surrender our agendas and be okay with the messiness of peoples' lives.” - Ben Dubow “You have to ask yourself, how many people that are gay would be following Jesus today if the church didn't shut Jesus off simply because they were gay?” – Josh Gagnon “The goal is to create a safe place to encounter Jesus and let the Holy Spirit do the work in each of us.” – Ben Dubow “The more we focus on the Jesus that loves us in spite of us, the more we can offer that Jesus to others.” - Josh Gagnon
