My greatest joy is discovering somebody I wasn't aware of who's doing something uniquely meaningful. That brings me to Brian Page. He is a Modern Husband. What does that even mean? Brian Page spent his career improving lives through personal finance education and he has now founded a platform called ‘Modern Husbands' to help couples navigate their home as a team. He and his wife have been married for over 20 years and have 3 kids. He says they're an everyday dual income American family. For the early part of their marriage, Brian was the one working out of the house and working long hours. His wife was home managing their life and taking care of their kids. Then one day things changed. His wife got a great job opportunity that paid more than he was making, and they made the decision to swap roles. Brian's new job was much harder than he ever realized. When he and his wife switched working roles, he was seriously blown away by his new work responsibilities as a stay-at-home Dad! He recently posted something on LinkedIn that caught my attention. It was a list called ‘The Mental Load'. In it Brian listed all the things that go on in somebody's day who's at home managing a family household. Wow - It really gives respect and insight to the day-to-day responsibilities of the stay-at-home spouse! Brian said, “For much of our marriage, I was the 60-80-hour-a-week breadwinner who did very little to manage the home. Early in our marriage, I probably would've rolled my eyes at a conversation about the mental load. You just don't know what you don't know, and that's not necessarily anyone's fault. “ “Many men rightfully feel defensive when we hear we need to do more at home. Most of us simply slip into doing certain tasks without understanding the invisible labor that goes with them.” “I created a mental load list with just a few examples to provide some context of what it takes to run a home. However, as much as we would like our homes to be run by checklists, it's just not that simple.” “It's been my experience that men desperately want to be great for their spouses. What often stands in the way is an understanding of the mental load that accompanies the tasks needed for a home to run, which is why I wrote this extensive post.” Marriage is a partnership built on trust, love, and mutual respect. Brian says he's trying to show couples how to navigate life as a couple better. I personally thought Brian's ‘mental load' list was LOUD and worth sharing for any stay-at-home parent who's been frustrated trying to explain to their spouse what the heck they've been doing all day ‘at home'! Find it on his website: ModernHusbands.com BTW: Brian who spent 15 years as a personal finance and economics educator was recognized as a National Educator of the Year by the Milken Foundation and Ohio Department of Education. He was a CNN Money Hero, a CEE Forbes Award winner, and a former Working Group Member of the U.S. President's Advisory Council on Financial Capability. He says, life and family change, and his priorities now are to support his wife's career ambitions and his children's needs Enjoy meeting this modern husband Brian Page in this podcast of our live conversation on The Debbie Nigro Show.

"I am truly a positive person. So what you see on my Instagram is just what you get. You know, that might not make you the most popular person. But it makes it much, much, much easier for me, because I'm just being myself. Mhm. Yeah, can you talk more about that? What made you think of that just now? I thought about it, because I think sometimes, you see so much doom and gloom… Every social media, everywhere. And then sometimes, when you look at that, or if it's not the doom and gloom, it's the… You know, the people talking about being stressed all the time, or body conscious all the time. You know, it's always negative! And I wonder, why? I mean, is that all people go through in life? Negativity? Yes, I have had moments that I'm pissed off, upset, have gone through things… But you cannot let that just rule and take over your life." — Welcome to the Wise Not Withered podcast! We are in Season 4, and this is Episode 10. This month's guest is Vickie Heath Glosson. I found her on Instagram, where she describes herself as "Gray hair beauty influencer and motivator with an eclectic lifestyle. Encouraging personal growth and a beacon of positivity and creativity." She truly is just so varied in all of her interests and activities that she does. She talks about her upbringing, as well as all kinds of things she's into now, such as her hair, her gardening, her teaching, her collaborations (being an ambassador for various beauty products), and she truly is just such a warm, beautiful soul. It was such a pleasure to talk to her and listen to her share so much about her life. And I will let her tell the rest of the story! Enjoy! — Cool! All right! Let's just dive right in! Let's go for it! What is your age? I am 66! 66, excellent. And where did you grow up? I grew up in the state of Texas, in a small city called Galena Park. It's right on the outskirts of Houston. So… Houston, Texas. Okay, nice. And where else have you lived? I am a born and raised Texan! Yeah! I'm right here. My parents both came from Louisiana, and they settled here in Houston in the mid-50's. Okay. Cool, do you know what brought them to where you are now? Of course! They grew up in the Northern part of Louisiana, and after my mom and dad got married, they settled in Seattle, Washington for a while. But since their parents were in Louisiana, they went back and stayed for a while. But they kinda wanted to live their life on their terms. And they decided on Houston. My parents were… My dad was a lawyer. My parents were business people. We had a café, growing up. They settled in Houston to do that. In Northern Louisiana, it was a small town… Opportunities were just not there. And so they decided to move on. Cool, and what do you do for a living? I know you have—you do so many things, but yeah what's like the main thing, if there is one? So many things… Actually, educator! I have taught for forty-five years. Wow! Actually I retired, then I got rehired because I missed it a little bit. I did that… I started teaching at a very young age of 21, and I taught in the Houston and Galena Park districts. So basically that's it. I'm an educator, of mostly middle school and high school. Okay, nice. Oh my gosh. Definitely an eclectic lifestyle, as you say on your page. How did you get into teaching? Well, my family has been deep into education. Actually, all my sisters above me… And I'ma just step back for a minute: there are eleven of us, okay. Mom and Dad had eleven children, and none of us are twins. My mom actually always wanted to be a teacher, and so I think over the years, hearing her talking about it on the regular… It just got instilled in us, because education was always really important. My grandmother, on my dad's side, was a teacher for years. So I really came from a long line of educators. So it just became a part… As a matter of fact, my oldest sister right now has been teaching for fifty-five years—in one district! Wow! Yes, yes. But all my sisters—and I have brothers. Brothers didn't go into the teaching. But all my sisters above me—which I am seven from the top! There are, what… Three sisters over me. Okay. Wow. So just a whole family of teachers. Yes, teachers, educators of some sort. Mhm. Okay. Yeah, and what has made you stay in it? Well, what happened is… I do do a lot of things. I spend a lot of time… I just love the kids! I retired for four years. And then my mom passed, okay… And after she did, my kids were in college. My younger two were in college still. I was like, “Let me sub for a little bit.” So I went in and substituted. I was teaching anyway. I could not be that person just sitting back and not helping my students. And so I went, “Well you know what? If I'm teaching anyway, I'll just go ahead and go back.” And that's what I did. I said, “If I get hired, I get hired. If not… You know, I won't worry about it. I'm retired. It's been four years. I'm good.” And my second interview, I got hired again! So I said, “Okay, I'll do this!” It's been almost six years now since I've been back. Nice! Awesome. All right, yeah… I love so many things that I saw on your profile. One of them was “Encouraging personal growth”. What does personal growth mean to you? Oh gosh… Just continue doing things, you know? Keep living life, having fun. Yes, there's always gonna be setbacks, that's normal. But you just have to persevere. You just have to say, “Okay, that happened. I made a mistake, perhaps.” I've learned, and move on! I believe in living, loving, and laughing! That's kind of my motto. It did not just happen. I was a little quieter in my earlier years, but I've always believed that. I believe in family. Doing things that make you happy! If it doesn't make me happy, I move on. Yeah, that's great! I love that. And what does make you happy? I'm sure there's tons of things, but what comes to mind first? Family! Family. I love family. I've always been family-oriented. I was close daughter to my mother and father. And my children! Oh my goodness. We do so, so much together. I love having them here with me, being around them, doing adventurous things with them. And you know, we'll just… Family. Family is just the bottom line. They just keep my heart beating. I'm excited about that. And of course, now I have two grand-daughters… That's just the icing on the cake. (Laughs) (Laughs) Ah, that's so cute. What was your relationship like with your mom? Oh my… We were really close. When I was growing up, like I said I was a little quieter. I was seventh, so I kind of sat back and watched. But she was very, very supportive. The song that I love, love, love—that I feel represents our relationship the most—you know, the wind beneath my wings! Yeah! Because she had always been there. Beautiful woman, beautiful heart, very supportive… She's the one, when I came home from dance classes, just if I learned a new step. She may be in the middle of something, and she's gonna stop. Whether she liked it or not, it's like “Oh my goodness, look at you! You done a great job.” You know, she always gave me time. Middle of the night sometimes, I wake up… She'll be in there sewing. Instead of swishing me back, to go to bed, “Come here, come on! Let me teach you this.” She taught me embroidery, taught me how to sew. And a lot of things were just her and me. I was interested, she knew I was. And if I wanted to learn from her, I did. You may have noticed, a lot of the pictures are gardening! Oh my gosh. She was an exceptional gardener. And I was right there with her, trying to learn as much as I could about everything. I wondered, “How do you know all this?” You know, remember all that? And I just kind of amazed myself, now, when I can go and do the same, and my kids are right there with me. They're like, “Mom, how do know all this?” Ah, I love that!! But she was… Yeah, just a wonderful person. You know, of course, we had our ups and downs, just like any other mother and daughter, but… An amazing woman. I'm that one to say, “When I grow up, I want to be like you.” A role model. Yeah… Oh, that's beautiful. I love that. Yeah, maybe can you talk more about your gardening? Oh gosh! Oh wow! Okay! I've always had a garden. Even in my single days, always had one… 2019 was a real transformation. My son and I—cause I have a son that stays here with me. We had grass in the backyard, the whole works, a courtyard. We decided, you know, let's do something! He's very creative. We kinda bonded here together, got our thoughts together. We cleared out every piece of grass, weeds, and we revamped it. It was really nice, took a while… Then covid hit. It was horrible, a terrible time in life, but we made so much out of it. We went through our whole, entire backyard. We dug it up. We transformed it! And it's my little paradise—my piece of paradise. We made a biometric type of gardening. A place where not only my family and myself, but for the animals. All the birds… We set it up, the garden for butterflies, the bees. We wanted nature to be part of the yard. That's how we set it up. I was taught earlier that when you do gardening, whether it's a flower garden or vegetable garden, whatever. You know, you do it enough to have enough for yourself, and enough for the animals. They come in and eat your tomatoes, or pick your peppers, whatever they do. There's always extra. So that's what we wanted. That's the way we wanted the garden to be, and that's how it turned out. We put gravel over the other areas. We have flower gardens, we have… Oh my gosh. I have peaches, apples, peppers, onions, garlic, greens. Just name it, it's there. And I love living a healthy life. I love going outside to pick my garden. It has been very healthful, very calming. I've loved just sitting back, and watching what I've done! I'm very proud of it. So I've been keeping it up, and it looks amazing! Oh, that's great! How fun. I remember my dad grew some, I think tomatoes. I feel like it tastes a lot better, from the natural garden. (Laughs) Oh, yes. And you know, they eat a little more than we want them to eat. (Laughs) But we don't use pesticides. We just try to get there earlier and pick it before they do. Yeah, that's so interesting too, to leave enough for the animals too, since it's inevitable that that'll happen. Yeah. I love that! How about, can you talk about your hair? Ahh! Yeah!! Yes, yes, yes. Okay. Yes, I will. It's a very interesting story. First of all, I actually did… Rinse my hair one. What happened… I had younger children, for my age. My first child was born when I was 32, my last one I was 39. So I was an older parent. And I remember my hair growing out gray. And my youngest son said, “Mom, why don't you dye your hair?” And remember now, he was around a lot of the younger parents, with blonde, bleach-blonde, or brown hair, whatever… I said, “Dye my hair? Why?” He said, “That way, it'd make you look younger. You oughta give it a try.” Remember now, he was in seventh grade, I believe it was. And so, I was like, “Well…” I just kinda didn't want to do that. He mentioned it again, and I said why not. I went in, got my hair rinsed, because I knew it would wash out after a certain amount of washes. It looked amazing! It did. I loved it, I loved it, I loved it. I'm kinda lazy though! (Laughs) I'm kinda lazy when it comes to even dealing with the hair. I loved it for the moment. You know, I'm happy that I did it. But when it grew out, I was okay. I did this, he thought it was amazing, everyone thought it was amazing. But it wasn't to the point where I could see myself in the chair, every what, six or eight weeks, getting my hair redone. Nobody said anything else about it from that point. So that was it! It went from a streak of gray right here, in the middle. That streak, years ago, my mom used to say… It was auburn color when I was growing up. She said “It'll be the first part of your hair that turns gray.” Yes, I had those lovely brothers that called me, you know, skunk! There was a cartoon Josie and the Pussycats. One of the ladies on there had that hair… But anyway, it continued on. I just went back, after a while. I said, “I love it!” I get compliments. An it's so amazing. Over the years, I've gotten more compliments from men versus women. That was shocking. I was like, “What?” That was pretty interesting. I've just kept it. I love it. It's just easy. And just went from there. Yeah, that's my hair! Love my hair. And if I had to do it over again, I'd probably do the same. Yeah, that's great. All right, so I've seen you've done a lot of collaborations. You've been featured, you've been an ambassador… There's so much! Can you talk about all of that? Wow… It started with hair. Different companies, that's where it started. I'm very happy about that. It was during a time where you just did not see women with gray hair, being featured for anything! So it started there, which… That was wonderful. It should have always been a part. When I think about the collaborations, I love the fact that the majority of them kept that in mind: it was because of the gray hair. That's why I was chosen in the first place, with a lot of them. With some of them, it's hard on your hair, because by your hair being this light, certain products turn it green or blue or… (Laughs) We had to learn what did and did not work! So that was kinda interesting, because if you're gonna collaborate with people and you try the products… I like to be transparent. I'm not gonna sit here and say a product is super great if it's NOT! Especially when I'm talking to women with light hair, white or silver hair. I always try my products. I let them know, “Hey, I have to do this for a week or two, so I can at least see some kind of reaction.” Then it moved on to facial products, and then it just became collaborations with a little bit of both. Even with that… If it's gonna break me out, you know, I'm gonna like, “Okay…!?” I show a picture of it, but I probably won't talk a whole lot about it. Because I don't want to deceive people when I get products, just to get paid. I would prefer not getting paid for it, if I could just jump in front of my audience and say, “Yeah! This product works!” This and that. No, I don't work like that. As a matter of fact, there's one I'm working on now, and I've only had it for like a week. “Oh, when you gonna come out?” I said, “I haven't used it long enough!” (Laughs) I said, “I'll do it so-and-so time.” But yes, I like doing the collaborations. I do a few that are free, but the majority of them I do get paid for them. Yes. Awesome. Yeah. I just put one out now, it's with Moderna. I've done one previously with the others, so… It's pretty good. I'm trying to get to a point where you know, when I retire next time around, I don't have to go back to teaching. So after a while, you're kinda like, “Oh it's that time again.” Yeah, what was it like to have the first one? Was it surprising to get an email? Or… What was your reaction to that? It was like, “Oh goodness!” I think the very first ambassador was Fly Hip and Ageless. Wow! That was so cool! And I'm like, “Okay!!” You know… But that was so amazing. I was very excited about that. You've probably heard of them, Fly Hip and Ageless. So that was my first ambassador one. Probably… I'm trying to think back. There's been a lot of them. It's exciting! And it's still exciting, after years! And you're excited because the people see you, notice you, and figure, she is… We like what she does well enough to even want to communicate with her. I do pick and choose! There are a lot of scammers out there, yes. They'll put in, “You're from this, we're from that.” And you have to really be careful with that. Check emails, check links, you check all those things before you jump into it. That's the harder part, and I'm glad I have young children! (Laughs) Cause they say, “Mom, that's a fake account! Check that again.” Or they check it for me. And sometimes if it sounds too good to be true, it IS too good to be true. But that said, there have been a lot of really good ones, that you would think, “Yeah, sure.” And they're really good ones, and legit! So, just have to be real careful. I'm very, very picky about that. Because… Yeah, you don't want your information out there to be stolen. Even though a lot of it gets stolen anyway! (Laughs) You do your best to not let it get stolen. Yeah, interesting… I also see that you're into yoga too? You know, I'm into a healthy lifestyle. Let's put it that way. Yoga… I was a ballet dancer… Oh my goodness, pretty much the last dance I did I was like 30 years old. So, I just do what makes me feel good. I love stretching! Being limber. I do yoga moves, I do ballet moves. I do some strength training, jogging… So I kinda just, at this age, I mix what's best for me. Stretching is the most important part. I can do that, I've learned all of that, and I just put it together, and work with it in ways that makes it great for me. You know? I would show it, yes, I do the yoga poses. Did I learn how to do the splits from yoga? No, I learned that from dance! You know what I'm saying? Or my backbend was from my acrobat… I used to be into acrobatics when I was younger. And I just kept up with them over the years. And yes, at 66, I can still do a backbend. Yes, I can still do the splits! Cartwheel, you know, those kinds of things. I just kept up with it over the years, because it just made me feel good. At the time it wasn't because of my Instagram. It was because I wanted to do it, and prove things to myself. Hey, can I still do this? And yes. I keep it up. I can't just specify one thing that I do. It's a blend. It's a blend of all that I've learned over the years. Wow…It's hard to believe a year has gone by since I started this journey. 52 weeks… 52 episodes. Thank you so much for pressing the play button. I truly appreciate it. I hope that something I've said… or a guest I've had… has brought you value. As I reflect and think about the words I say to myself, I wanted to share them with you: Stay true to your purpose… walk your path. People will join you. People will not. People will provide their thoughts. People will project their energy +/- Just know that…the path you walk, is your truth. Keep on…keeping on… and focus your energy on your truth. You are in control of the energy that you allow to come into your space. You are in control of the energy you choose to share with others -Own Your Space**. - Be Blessed, my friends. Much Love to you. ☕️
AdTech is booming. Our podcast guest this week is Terry Kawaja, founder and CEO of LUMA Partners, who explains what's happening and where things are going. Many of you know him for his industry visualizations called the LUMAscape, his firm's deals, his speeches and his very humorous take on things in his clever videos. He is a unique and admired presence in our industry and I am pleased that he has joined me for this episode. During the pandemic, he and his team have been very much engaged in deal making. After a slow Q2&3, LUMA has been on fire with several high profile transactions. He sees accelerated activity in the M&A for this year. In our chat, he talks about a number of topics including a roaring stock market for adtech, which he figures was up about 200% last year. (The TradeDesk enjoys a market cap of about $35 billion.) And he talks about a pretty amazing upside for outcome-based marketing which he says could create trillions of dollars in value. That’s right trillions. He says that App marketing has proven the math and science of marketing to outcomes. He predicts these practices will become increasingly pervasive all media, including linear TV. Wow: It seems like only yesterday, in 2015, that Terry declared to an assembled VIP industry group, that “winter is coming” to the adtech space, a winnowing of players, perishing in a dark world dominated by Google and Facebook. Well, for sure there has been a lot of consolidations and flops, but it’s very encouraging to see the innovation and value creation taking place in our industry. The search for balance can be a challenge. But the key to keeping your balance is knowing when you've lost it. Balance is not something you find. It's something you create. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACT. http://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT Balance (verb) is to keep or put (something) in a steady position so that it does not fall. It's also to offset or compare the value of (one thing) with another. Unfortunately, we are stuck in thinking of balance as the noun: a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions. Think of the rocks that are stacked upon each other. But how does balance show up in real life? Real-life is not about having order and structure. Yes, you can have rhythms and patterns which can create habits for ease of living. However, balance is not about equal in weight or proportions. It's a matter of importance and influence in the season of your life. Each day can have a different balance. Think about it as Monday to Tuesday. Are they played out exactly, activity for activity? Of course not. If you pressed snooze in the morning, you have changed your day. It's no longer in balance. You have upset your proportions. So the key to keeping your balance is knowing when you've lost it. In this case, the snooze upset the pattern and the time you have to get ready in the morning. Something has to change. When you find yourself out of balance (which I do every day), create your now! The K.I.S.S. ~ Create your N.O.W.! For me, flexibility is balance. It's not about being so rigid and stuck in your ways. Yes, you can have patterns and rhythms that help you form habits giving you freedom not to overthink. But you don't need to have a life that lines up with what everyone else says or does. This is your life to live. So create your N.O.W.! NAME IT! Identify the change, what you want in your life. What do you want that's different than what you are doing currently? Choose one goal to sustain. OWN IT! Identify the barriers and the perceived ones What is or could hold you back? What are the obstacles in your way? What current season of life are you in that could bring about challenges? Do what works within your season. WOW IT! Brainstorm the creative solution(s) Think outside the box. Try something new. Take A.I.M. Adjust your actions according to the change. Look at balance as a verb, an action. Not something that you claim as a destination or a position in your day. It changes everything. It gives you permission to make changes instilling flexibility. Wow— It’s been 2 and a half years of doing the podcast and I’m honored to have had the privilege of interviewing so many world-renowned thought leaders. I’m proud to present to you our 250th episode today featuring none other than Tom Peters. Thanks to all of my guests and listeners for making the podcast a success. I hope that many thought leaders, authors, academics speakers, and organizational thought leaders continue to achieve the impact and leverage they wish from their work. - Peter Winick Tom Peters is the co-author of In Search of Excellence—the book that changed the way the world does business, in addition to seventeen other books that have sold more than 10 million copies combined and recipient of the Thinkers50 Lifetime Achievement Award. Tom shares candid stories of his time writing In Search of Excellence, and how it found success amongst an audience that no one was targeting at the time, despite many expecting the book to be a failure. We discuss his article The Brand Called You, how it changed the way people market themselves, and how many who’ve read it have actually missed the true meaning. Don’t miss this fascinating conversation with one of the most prolific business authors and speakers in the world. Three Key Takeaways: · How timing can play a big part in the success of your thought leadership. · Why you can’t be mad at others when they misinterpret your thought leadership. · What you need to do to make your thought leadership invaluable to your organization.

Commentary Why I am named the Urban Hobo Girl because I move often and now I am settled in the Triad area. As they say It has gotten better, still a challenge. This is the first episode of a " little bit of everything news" that is open to conversation , information, topics of interest and what the public thinks. Starting with local news and grow with the topics and see the response from our public. For the first episode the best news is talking about the local news. The biggest news I am following at the present moment is in Asheville NC. Wanda Greene and Mandy Stone." WOW " It is about time. I am wondering what took so long? Is it because the nepotism? So Wanda did not get her sentencing reduced " Yeah", She went from 30 years down to 7 years and now wants 4 years. In the meantime I just read an article when another person got 50 years for a $50.00 Theft. I read some responses and we all feel the same about these two who are not getting the true sentences they deserve. I understand the investigation is continuing. Does anyone want to share any experiences about Mandy or Wanda including department issue for example DSS. I have a story I will share at later date. The Best Stories are the true stories. Being on stage requires a lot of discipline and confidence. But if you are living behind the curtain, how can you shine? Success is not about hitting the mark every time. It's about showing up, willing and ready to do the work. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACT. http://facebook.com/groups/thewomenofimpact But how much is your success dependent on the applause, acknowledgement, and recognition from others? Unfortunately, A LOT!! People have more influence on how we live our lives whether we want to admit or not. Just think, there would be no reason to have marketing campaigns if you had the greatest influence over yourself. However, that's not the case. Roadblocks, temptations, distractions, and all around nonsense buy for your attention. The reward is increased sales. Now this makes sense from a marketing perspective, but how in the world does it relate to your life, your purpose, and your success? Good question! Surely you have the answer. You ARE the greatest influencer of you! But we know that not to be true. Instead, we sit on the sidelines waiting for confirmation that this is what we are suppose to be doing in a job, in a relationship, in a career move, in a home purchase, just in life! You see it's easier living behind the curtain, because there is less risk. Yet, you are wanting more than a backstage pass. You want to be on stage. Tough to do, but definitely not impossible. Today's episode is brought to you by.... *****SPONSORED BY: Health, Hope and Inspiration Podcast with Rev. Percy McCray https://healthhopeandinspiration.com created by Cancer Treatment Centers of America®. Growing up, I was quite the performer. From music (both singing and instrumental) to plays and musicals, and even directing. Yes, I was the cousin who every time the whole family got together, I orchestrated a production of some kind. At Christmas, it was presents and Jesus. Usually it had to do with the holiday in some way. And then I grew up (only by years), as I'm still a child at heart. Bigger stages of opportunities opened up. It wasn't just the loving eyes and applause of family anymore. It was strangers and teachers, professors and bosses, a husband and in-laws that were all watching now. This was a much bigger stage with greater impact. How in the world could I do what I thought I should be doing with all of them watching? I must say, some of those people were incredible. One of my bosses, named Sylvia was an out-of-the-box extraordinaire when it came to her job and leading a team of people, including me. You see, she was the Vice President of Nursing Services for the hospital. For me, she was my primary boss, but I did have about another 10-12 people who I worked for directly. Living behind the curtain was never an option for Sylvia. She would push and pull you in all different directions without you even knowing what she was doing. She was truly a blessing to me. But then I had a boss that would only pull me into his office and tear me down. Told me everything I was doing wrong. Eventually, I left that job and pursued other ventures. Maybe you are living behind the curtain. Some by choice of yourself and other by force of circumstance. In life, it seems we have these dynamic differences that shackle us to our fears. When I was with Sylvia, I was confident and disciplined. I knew exactly what I was suppose to be doing. But the other job only left me with confusion about myself. I began questioning who I was, what I was doing, and let fear become my stronghold. Living behind the curtain isn't a place for you to shine. God did not create you to sit back and watch everyone else in the spotlight. He gave you YOUR spotlight to shine and impact the world you touch. So today is a brand new day! A day to open your heart to what God is telling you. No more living behind the curtain. Get ready to create your now!! The K.I.S.S. ~ Create Your N.O.W.! You have a dream. You have a goal. You have a vision of your future and a mission in your heart. Living behind the curtain will not help you reach what God has planted within you. It's time to get serious and create your N.O.W.! How do we recruit A players into our down lines and create extra incomes, yet still have plenty of time for the rest of our lives? That's the blaring question and this podcast will give you the answer. My name is Steve Larsen and welcome to Secret MLM Hacks Radio. What's up, guys? Please know that I'm joking, but honestly, this is amazing stuff. What I want to do today is I want to you guys through. A few days ago, I was thinking through where I am in my own business, my down line, and I just thought to myself, "I wonder what's the biggest people have been able to go do because of this podcast or what I'm teaching or the course? What is that?" Anyway, I decided that I would reach out to all these people and I would ask them, "What's the thing?" I got back some crazy responses. I had no idea. What's the biggest you guys have taken away? What's the biggest thing you've learned? Tell me what's the result from which you've learned. The learning part, I love being able to see people understand stuff and get epiphanies and things like that, but it's learning for a purpose, which is to make more cash, to get more people in the down line. I know that and I'm aware of that, I'm cognizant of that, and that's honestly, one of the biggest bars of success that I care about. When we're off and we're selling, I want you to think about it this way. I build a lot of sales funnels for a lot of people, for myself. Anyways, large individuals, school, you'd all know the names if I said. Anyway, I don't know if I'm allowed to. It's been fun going through and doing this. There's this really interesting thing that happens. I want you to think about your MLM's product. Can you sell your MLM's product? Yeah. Can you sell your MLM's opportunity? Right, I'm sure. Yeah, absolutely. What happens, though ... Let's say you're standing with a friend, someone that you would love, or someone that you just met, but somebody that you would like to be inside the opportunity. What happens when another person walks up and just talks up like crazy to MLM, like, "This is amazing. Oh, my gosh. This is incredible. It completely changed my life." They do that in front of someone who's not in the MLM. You'd be like, "Duh. Steven, of course, the guy is going to freak out and be amazed and be like, 'This is amazing. There really is something to this.'" There's this third party validation that's going on that matters like crazy. I remember there was a ... It's going to make me sound really conceited. There was this time, there was this event going on at Click Funnels HQ, and I had been publishing a lot. We were able to go and help a whole bunch of people. It was a lot of fun. I walked in the door, there was a bunch of people that turned around, like, "Oh, my gosh. It's Steve Larsen." They'd come up and they start taking pictures and things like that. This guy walks up and he goes, "What are you, some kind of celebrity or something?" I was like, "No, I wouldn't say that. I'm not trying to be. I really like what I do and I talk about it." Some guy next to him was like, "This is Steve Larsen. Oh, my gosh. Really incredible." Crazy. To an awkward amount. I was like, "Okay. Thank you." [inaudible 00:03:37] What happened to that guy? I feel really awkward that I just said that story. Think about it with you. Is somebody going to walk up and be like, "Oh, my gosh," whatever your name is, "You're amazing. You're incredible." I'm just trying to be real here and open and honest with you. Are there other people who will, right now, walk up when they see you and be like, "It's you in the flesh. Oh, my gosh"? I don't care what you think about him, but if the president of the United States was to walk in your house, you would go (gasps), "Wow." That awe feeling. "Wow." Have that feeling of (gasps). That feeling, that internal reaction to what is going on. Will somebody else have that reaction when you walk in the room? Guys, it is my strong, firm belief that if you want recognition in this planet, do not seek it. It is a gift that comes to those who have been actively trying to bless human societies, to bless the human race, to bless people or prospective customers, buyers. Does that make sense? People who are actually delivering real value. Don't go out and ... Guys. If anyone goes and rents cars that are fancy and takes pictures in front of them for the social media profile, I'm going to slap you. I am so against that. Be real, be ethical, be honest. When people think about your MLM, when people this about your opportunity, do they have the reaction of (gasps), "Wow. Oh, my gosh. That's amazing. Whoa"? That honor feeling. Do they have that? If they don't, it's okay. Just be honest about it. Is that there? If it's not, that's okay. If it is there, that's great. Identify why. Turn that up. That's part of what makes you talkable. You cannot talk somebody into joining your MLM. If you can, they may not be the right person to get in. Very hard to get those kinds of ... The best kinds of people I like to go recruit are the people that are hard to recruit because they're busy individuals. They have so much going on already. That is the best person on planet Earth for me to go get because they're active individuals. I don't have to hold a cattle prod to their back to get them to do anything. In order to create that feeling about what you do, who you are, your reputation, and again, I'm trying to let you know use this for good. Don't be a schmuck about it. I know that everyone listening ... By the way, we're getting 150 downloads a day on this podcast. I did not know that until I just looked at it. Really cool. Thank you so much for listening. I appreciate that. I am actively trying to change the MLM industry and thanks for joining me on this journey. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know I don't care what MLM you're in, when people either hear about it or they learn your opportunity, or they are for the first time, seeing your product, how do you create the feeling of (gasps), "Wow"? It will not be by you talking about you. That's the fastest way to feel and look and be and be perceived as conceited and a self-righteous snob. An element of credibility is still needed. How do you do that? Here's one of the easiest ways to do it. I remember I was building a funnel for this lady. She was from Australia, but she used to live in Africa. They escaped Africa. Really interesting story. I don't know if I should tell all of it because there's actually some really scary elements to it. They literally ran. There was actual gunshots. It was actually a pretty scary story. She ran. They got out of Africa where they were living and they moved over to Australia. When they were in Australia, she had to go through the incredible, ridiculous mound of paperwork that it took in order to get a visa to be in Australia. I don't know if they ran straight to Australia, but eventually, they went to do their paperwork, they got over there. She became an expert at this process. She was able to drastically and severely lower the pain needed for someone to get into Australia. We were making this funnel where in three steps, you could get a visa to Australia. She was very, very good at it. She was an expert at it. She helped a whole lot of people get in. She had all of these case studies and testimonials of people that she had helped, people who were saying, "I needed to get a visa quickly," or "I needed this," or "I needed that." The process is years for some people. What we did not do is make a video with her saying how amazing she is. That doesn't sell anybody. It just lets the world know what you think about yourself. When I have people apply to join my down line, I do not have a video of me saying how awesome I am. I have tons of video of other people saying how much I've been able to help them. Lots of cool success stories. Tons of other people who are like, "My gosh, this guy changed my life." If I say it, it feels a little weird. You might be feeling right now, "Man, Steve had never talked this way." That's the reason why. If I come out and I say that, people are like, "Oh, my gosh. This guy is kind of full of himself." Even though it's important to be confident, it's important to know you're good, it's important to know when to talk about yourself, but come on, no one wants to hear that from everybody all the time. In fact, really, hardly ever. How do you do this? One of the easiest ways to do this is just go gather cool testimonials and stories about what you've been able to do for other people in their life and use that as your sales message. If at all, just include it with the sales message that you have to sell your opportunity, to sell the product. If your MLM has loaded you up with testimonials, it works if they're generic ones that came from the MLM. If you can get them about you, if you can get them about how cool it is to be on your team, oh, my gosh, that is so powerful because now you're not the only one selling. The burden is spread. It's no longer just on your back to say, "Look how cool I am. Yeah. I do know what I'm doing. This team is really cool." Now you have a whole bunch of people that are like, "Oh, my gosh. This is incredible. This has been life changing. It has changed everything for me. Thank you so much. This is incredible." Does that make sense? There's good testimonials and there's bad testimonials. Not all testimonials are created equal. Bad testimonials are when someone's standing there and they're like, "Hey. I didn't know if I should come to this even or join this down line. I'm so glad I did. If you think that you want to do this, you should." That's a stupid testimonial, okay? Those are dumb. The way to make good testimonials is, we have to understand the backstory of the individual who is talking. Otherwise, we do not relate to what they they are saying. I like to use something called an epiphany bridge script. I literally will hand that script to the person who's giving the testimonial and I'll say, "Answer the questions for this script. What's your backstory? What kind of desires did you have internally about you? What were the desire you had externally? What did you want to go accomplish or get or see have happen? What kind of objections did you have? What were the unexpected walls? When you got over those walls, what was the new plan? Now that you got over the wall, what's the brand new plan?" Then next after that it's like, "What conflict did you hit again, the unexpected thing that happened?" When we know what those stories ... Then what did you accomplish at the end? When you know what that backstory is to the individual, that is the testimonial. That is so much powerful. Go find a Hollywood movie that does not have that script in it. What's fascinating is when you get people to do that, they will connect on an emotional level. What's happening inside the prospect's head, what's happening inside their head is they are saying, "Oh, my gosh. I relate to this person. Now Steve is not just trying to sell me on why I should join his down line. This lady, this person, this guy, they are ... Huh. I totally thought the same thing. I totally had the same kind of conflict, the same unexpected thing. I was similar to that." Now what happens, they reach out to that person. I don't care if that testimonial of that person, I don't care if that person brings them into the down line. It still helps me. Why would I care about that? It makes me sellable without me selling myself. If you don't have testimonials and you've been walking around, talking to people, and lets say did you have the ones from your MLM, that's fine, that's great, but they are nowhere near the amount of power as to when you get someone else to say them. "Oh, man, I joined Steve's team. I got the product of the MLM Steven's in. Incredible. It was amazing. So cool. I had serious pain here or I really wanted this to happen," and they go into the internal and the external desires. They go through the different walls and they go through the different conflicts that happened. Then they're like, "Dang." I have a whole string of those kinds of videos and I have it next to the application that I make people fill out when they want to join my down line. It's part of the process I have them go through. They're real testimonials. Those are my friends now and they're people that I get to work and hang out with. That's all I'm trying to say. If you want to turn up the sexy on what you're doing, if you want to turn up the sexy, go get testimonials. One of the things, just because I am a script writer, when I say that to you, you're probably now convinced that ... I'm trying to back track. We're going to exit Steven doing a podcast right now and enter my mind of where I'm going right now. I just showed you a new opportunity. I showed you a new way to get sales in. What I know happens now is there a knee jerk objection. Something that inherently pops into your head as to why that's not true, or why that won't work for you. The first one, I imagine, you're saying to yourself when I say, "Go get testimonials," is you're like, "I don't have anyone to give testimonials for me." I guarantee someone who's listening right now said that to themselves. "I don't have anyone to ask. I must need a team in order for this to work for me." That's the objection most likely going through your head for a lot of people. To that, my counter, is to say, if you don't have someone who you can go get testimonials from, the next thing that you go do is you go get people who at least know who you are and you ask the question, "What's it like to work with me?" You get those people to answer, preferably on a video. If it's just with them holding their iPhone, preferably on a video, though, and they answer the question, "What's it like to work Steve? What's it like to work with you?" The next question that I know that most likely is going to be a knee jerk reaction to that is, "I'm not good enough anyway. I'm not actually good enough ... I haven't done anything for anybody yet. Crap. I'm realizing that I don't know that anyone could give me a testimonial." That's another ... We're exiting the podcast episode, going into Steve's mind as he's starting to look around and say ... As I say this to you, most likely the large majority of you are going to say X, Y, and Z. In that scenario, if you're like, "I don't know if anyone could actually give me a testimonial," my gosh, guys, then go find somebody that you can do some for. I don't care if you do it for free. That's actually how I started in a lot of this game. I found somebody, I looked at their business, I looked at their stuff, I looked at the scenario and I was like, "You know what? With this kind of scenario, I could blow that person up" and I did, and I recorded the story. It's the story that launched me. You got to find a way to get the story. Exit the podcast episode right now, go back to Steven in his own internal conversation which can be a scary place. He's saying to himself, I know that when I go get testimonials, other people are going to say, "I don't have camera equipment. What kind of time is this going to take? I don't know that I have the resources to go get something like a testimonial. I don't know how to do video. I don't know how to put this stuff together." Go back into the episode, and now I've got something to say to that. I'm trying to help you guys see it doesn't matter what you're saying. Any new idea that you seed inside somebody's head, whether you're selling them on your MLM, you're selling them on your product, you have to be prepared and look forward and have foresight for the objections they will most likely have, and have a counter to it. I guarantee you listening to this right now, most of you are probably listening to it on your phone. It actually is more authentic a lot of times, and it actually sells a little better, and actually a lot of times it'll make you more believable when the people are using their own iPhones and sending you the video. That's it. I'm sure there's free software where you can drop a series of your videos, or just put your videos ... Anyway. Put them on YouTube. When someone's like, "I'm thinking about it," be like, "Oh, yeah, cool. Let me send you a few videos real quick so you know what this team is about." It's just the video testimonials of people who are basically selling you without selling you. Selling your opportunity without selling your opportunity. Selling your product without selling the product. It's one of the most powerful ways where it's not such a rigid script. It does help if you follow the format I was just saying. It's not such a rigid script, though. Having them says, "Look, other people have basically proven that I'm not a schmuck." That's basically it. If you can get that to happen, if you're not the one saying it, of course ... If I go ask a car salesman, "I don't know if I should get another car," what are they going to say? "Oh, yeah, you should totally get another car." That's why you're not believable when you say those kinds of things about yourself. "I've done this and I've spoken here and I'm on Forbes and [inaudible 00:17:40]." It comes across very conceited and it's not believable. The way to get around it and the way to sell people without selling, one of the easiest ways is to gather tons of testimonials. Those of you guys who have existing down lines, go ask your down lines for testimonials about you. Ultimately, that's what people are buying. We all know that from the classic cliché and phrases, ultimately people are purchasing you, not the MLM. Get them about you and find a way to deliver them as part of your onboarding or prospecting methods, whether using sales funnels or not. Whatever. Put them on YouTube and you can use them in different areas. Put them on your own website if you have one. Transcribe them. Put them on your blog. One of the ones I got here, which is really, really cool, super cool, I think the world of her. She's amazing. She went through and she said, "I haven't had any money success ..." Meaning in the past she was having a hard time selling stuff. She came in and she bought the Secret MLM Hacks program, and I want to share with you the results. This has been amazing. She said, "I have three girls. Oldest just turned five so they're home with me all the time and my husband is in the Army, and he's gone a lot." I'm paraphrasing pieces, personal data. You know what I mean? She said, "I'm bootstrapping this whole thing. Because of that, I went through your entire course. I took tons of notes, filled out the workbooks. Now I'm building as much as I possibly can to start getting immediate results and hopefully get things flowing quickly. I'm also trying to find other ways to bring cash in." "Basically, I am a crazy lady who has big fat dreams of getting our family into a financial position where my husband doesn't have to work all the time and can stay a positive service for him. You taught me how to make it all possible even with my babies. I wake up early and work late. While my successes haven't been huge yet, I've learned a ton." This was pretty cool. She said, "I don't know the correct way to say it, but before taking this, one out of every five people I showed my product to bought. Since the course," and she's learned how to sell. She's learned a lot ... I'm sorry. I'm stumbling here. She's learned a lot more about marketing. She said, "At least one out of every three people is buying from me right now." That is so sweet. Anyway, super cool. She's incredible and awesome. I'm grabbing the next one here also. It's pretty cool. She said, "Hey, Steve, one of the cool things I've gained from your course is realizing how important it is to start publishing regularly. I started a podcast right away, 10 days ago, and have started 10 episodes. After the third, I had someone reach out and tell me they were loving the information giving, and they were excited." She's now prospecting. She's getting leads already. That's why ... Oh, man. Go get it. If you are sick and tired of where you are in your MLM business, it takes a giant shock of energy, a huge shift, a massive sacrifice, something your side to go and actually make a huge difference and change what's been happening. She said, "They had been discouraged because their MLM recently pushed home parties, and so was I. I was able to chat with her about the growing power of doing this another way, so the product. So fun to see these people are responding so quickly to my podcast. It's gradually moving up in the iTunes charts in just 10 days." Super cool, guys. Lots and lots of cool things. People are recruiting like crazy. One of the coolest ones so far, because this has just been a lot. Not just from ... It's cool when people learn stuff. I want the outcome, though. I really, really, really want the outcome for everybody. It's been happening. It's been working. One of the craziest testimonials so far has been somebody set up some of the things I was talking about on Sunday, they turned traffic on, on Monday, and they had someone in their down line on Tuesday. It was nuts. That's just one example. Obviously, an extreme example, but there's been a whole bunch of others as well. People are recruiting. People are getting more into their down lines. It's just not fluff stuff. Stuff actually works. I just got my 225th person applying to join my down line, my personal one, let alone all the other people that I teach how to do it, too. Anyway, hopefully that was helpful to you. Go out and start thinking about how you can get your street cred and how you can document it in a cool way. What's super fun too, is ... If you're gutsy about it, call your shot and say publicly, if you're publishing regularly be like, "I'm going to go out and I'm going to do X," and publish the journey as you pursue X. Even if you don't hit X, the pursuit of that is followable. As you go, people will give you testimonials even for that. Figure out what it is that you can go do to get people who have sent you videos and have sent you testimonials. I have a file I collect them in, so that when I need them, I can use them and it works super well. Massive way to sell without selling and very, very helpful. It's actually a whole module in the course Secret MLM Hacks. All right guys, thanks so much. Hopefully that was helpful to you and in fact, I know it will be if you do it. Thanks so much and see you on the next episode. Bye. Hey. Thanks for listening. Please remember to subscribe and leave feedback.
