When a section of the Big Hole River in southwest Montana ran dry in 1988, all eyes were on the future of one of the last remaining populations of arctic grayling in the lower 48. Out of the struggle, a collaboration emerged that change the future of the Big Hole - a future where human communities, wildlife and the ecosystems they depend on can thrive. In this week's podcast I focus on two topics: The first is the culmination of a 10 year project that just took a giant leap forward. As you know the mission of our Foundation is to help do it yourself investors make better investment decisions. The bottom line is we want to help them improve their financial future. While it is not addressed in our written mission, it is our desire to have the work continue beyond what the present group of volunteers can provide. That means finding a stable institution or organization to carry on our work. The following release from the Western Washington University introduces a new program that will soon establish a financial literacy program that will impact every student who attends WWU. Over the next 100 years this endowment should help millions of students and their families make better financial decisions. The second topic is about someone I think everyone of our readers should become familiar. On October 11 I will be speaking to the New York City AAII Chapter and on October 13 the Bogleheads Conference in Rockville, MD. In both cases I will be speaking on The Good, the Bad and the Ugly aspects of investing in small cap value. My hope is my presentation will motivate investors to give serious consideration to adding SCV to their portfolio. While I am excited about the opportunity to present our findings, I must admit the work that Ben Felix, one of our Truth Tellers, has done is about the best I have found on the topic. If you want to see one of the best cases for SCV please watch Ben do his magic.

A bear hunt with a handful of disabled Veterans in camp changed the trajectory of Otto Reetz's life forever. Not a Veteran himself, Reetz sat around a fire with a group of men several years ago and left that week knowing that he wanted to make a difference in the lives of those who serve and have served our country. As a result of that trip, Wounded Warriors United was founded and now puts on similar experiences around the country for Veterans and Active Duty Service Members from our home state of Wisconsin.Retiring after years in the construction business, Otto and his wife moved to Gleason in northern Wisconsin to a farm on a dead end country road. Now utilizing that farm as a retreat for those they serve, the Reetzs continue to expand their mission by partnering with passionate groups and individuals in The Badger State. I was introduced to Otto from mutual friend and Wisconsin National Guardsman Peter Thies. Both Thies and his brother have been active supporters of Wounded Warriors United for years, putting on various fundraisers to help fund hunting and fishing excursions for their brothers and sisters in arms.A lifelong outdoorsman, Reetz has a deep appreciation for the outdoors and just how meaningful these trips are to those who need them the most. We talked about a few special hunts that have created memories for not only the Veterans and their families but for Otto as well. Seeing the impact of his work has only fueled his passion and the future is bright for WWU with some exciting things on the horizon in 2023 and beyond. As with any nonprofit organization, Wounded Warriors United is always looking for new partnerships with the betterment of those they serve as the foundation for that connection. The outdoors and military service are two things with a long, rich tradition in the life of Peter Thies. From his grandfather serving during World War 1 to he and his brother currently on active duty in the Wisconsin National Guard, the call to duty runs deep in their family. The same can be said for a shared loved of hunting and fishing. Seen more as a necessity to put food on the table for a large family growing up, the Thies clan continues to spend quality time in the woods and on the water. Peter was able to take a great whitetail buck with his bow recently and his wife harvested her first deer last fall. While we have yet to join up on a 3D course at one of our HHAUSA events, I hope to help Thies, and his brother, cross that off of their bucket list in 2023.When he's not busy with his family and Guard obligations as a recruiter and drill sergeant, Peter loves helping out another Wisconsin based nonprofit that supports the military, Wounded Warriors United. Founded by Otto Reetz, WWU focuses on providing hunting and fishing trips to Wisconsin Veterans. Peter and his brother volunteer and assist Reetz in his fundraising efforts across the state and enjoy giving back to their fellow service members. Personally, I look forward to connecting with Otto and having him on the podcast in the near future as well to share his heart for the Veteran community and his work with them in the outdoors. We never know the impact that we will have on the lives of others and how something as simple as an email can trigger a new friendship. That was exactly how Peter Thies and I became acquainted last winter when he contacted our company regarding a Military Discount on an archery sight. After meeting in person at the Open Season Expo in Wisconsin Dells this past March, a new friendship began and I knew that Peter and I would one day be doing great things together to make a difference. I look forward to seeing what that will look like down the road and want to thank Peter for his service and his willingness to serve. To learn more about the Wisconsin National Guard, visit ng.wi.gov

You've seen him around ringside at many of Chicago's independent wrestling shows. Wrestling With Unicorns was established with (literally) the blood, sweat and tears of Martin Carrillo and his brother Jon Huerta. Carrillo joined Windy City Slam Podcast and explained how attending an AAW show as a fan in 2015 started the empire of WWU, how he got on the other side of the barrier, working for AAW, Warrior Wrestling, Freelance Wrestling and finally many promotions across the country, including Game Changer Wrestling and EVOLVE, seeing his footage on AEW television and much more. Plus, Mike recaps WWE Hell In A Cell, NXT In Your House, Black Label Pro, POWW Entertainment and GLCW and previews AAW and GALLI Lucha Libre shows. Mike Pankow is a wrestling super-fan who covers local Chicagoland wrestling and national promotions like AEW and WWE. If there is something going on in Chicago, Mike knows about it. Enjoy "Wrestling, Chicago-Style" on The Broadcast Basement On-Demand Radio Network! Music by Jason Shaw on Audionautix.com. Get your local wrestling fix every Tuesday everywhere podcasts can be found and always at WindyCitySlam.com!

Creatine is a naturally occurring molecule in your body that helps create cellular energy in exercising muscles, among other benefits. We debunk the common myths and discuss the science you need to know about creatine! Support your Exercise and Fasting sessions with the new Electrolyte Stix from MYOXCIENCE Nutrition: bit.ly/electrolyte-stix Use code podcast at checkout to save at checkout Link to research, video and images: http://bit.ly/creatine-science Time Stamps: 00:30 Creatine helps to add phosphorous groups to ADP molecules to remake ATP. ATP is needed to move your muscles. 00:55 The food you eat is broken down into ATP. 01:00 People retained water back in the day when creatine was paired with dextrose (sugar). 03:16 Creatine is a metabolite comprised of 3 amino acids. Arginine, which helps to vasodilate and increase blood flow, glycine, and methionine. Glycine is part of the glutathione tripeptide. Methionine is a sulfur-containing amino acid. 04:15 You have over 100 grams of creatine in your body. It is found primarily in your muscle tissue because they are energetically demanding. 05:30 Some cuts of beef contain 9.6 mg/gram of dry weight of creatine. Beef is rich in creatine, taurine and carnosine. It also has beta alanine. 06:05 Wheat, soy, potato, and corn contain zero creatine, taurine, beta alanine, and carnosine. If you eat red meat, you are probably getting plenty of creatine. 07:00 ATP is fundamental to cellular processes that underpin skeletal muscle contraction during exercise. Muscle stores little ATP. Metabolic pathways are activated to maintain ATP resynthesis. 07:45 Creatine functions mainly at the muscle level. 09:00 Creatine supplementation can be a multifactorial intervention across the lifespan in women with little to no side effects. Creatine is not an androgen. It is involved in energy utilization and recycling. 09:35 Creatine supplementation combined with exercise provides musculoskeletal and performance benefits in older adults. 10:10 Creatine paired with electrolytes can improve power output and strength, because it works during the workout. 11:10 Anaerobic power and strength is improved with creatine paired with electrolytes (magnesium, potassium, calcium, and sodium). There was a 10 to 15% benefit in the intervention group in the WWU study.Improvement/progress is motivating. 15:25 As you age, you naturally lose strength and muscle. Supplemental creatine may help counteract some of the strength loss. 15:55 Electrolytes like, magnesium, sodium, and potassium, are transporters used to aid in the absorption and utilization of creatine. 17:40 Creatine uptake is directly impacted by presence of sodium, chloride, and calcium. Creatine uptake is reduced by up to 47%, when there is no calcium or magnesium in extracellular fluid. When concentrations of sodium and chloride are increased, uptake increases, even with no additional creation concentrations. Sodium and chloride are both needed for transport. 19:10 Electrolytes are often taken after a sauna session or before, during or after a workout. Sauna moves a lot of blood in and out of your core.
