Daily Anglican Prayer - Wednesday Morning – 10th July 2024 Readings: Psalm 25; 2 Chronicles 23. 1-17; Galatians 3. 15-26. Led by Felicity Scott, a Liturgical Assistant at St John the Baptist Anglican Church Bulimba, QLD, Australia. The full prayer transcript is available by going to this episode on the Podcast website. https://dailyprayeranglicanprayerbookforaustralia.podbean.com Welcome to Wednesday Morning prayer based on the Anglican ‘A prayer book for Australia'. We proclaim the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ: GOD in his infinite mercy, forgives all sins, and through our baptism in the name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, we are given a rebirth into new life, free from the burden of all sin. ALLELUIA With faithfulness we respond to the good news: We acknowledge Christ as our saviour and accept with gratitude, that we are forgiven for all wrong doings, past and present. To honour the gift of forgiveness, we release our burden of guilt and rise up to live in the glory of God forever more. Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Blessed be God forever. Let us Pray. 1 Rejoice always pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus.       Glory to God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit:  as in the beginning, so now, and for ever. Amen.       2 The Opening Canticle, A Song of God's Grace Blessed are you,  the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: For you have blessed us in Christ Jesus with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,  You chose us to be yours in Christ, before the foundation of the world: That we should be holy and blameless before you.  In love you destined us to be your children, through Jesus Christ: according to the purpose of your will,  to the praise of your glorious grace: which you freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. Ephesians 1.3-6     3 The Opening Prayer The night has passed and the day lies open before us;  let us pray with one heart and mind.    Silence may be kept. As we rejoice in the gift of this new day,  so may the light of your presence, O God,  set our hearts on fire with love for you;  now and for ever.  Amen.    4 The Psalms as appointed. A pause is observed after each. Psalm   5 At the end of the (last) pause there may follow We consecrate this day to your service, O Lord; may all our thoughts, words, and actions be well-pleasing to you and serve the good of our brothers and sisters; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.   6 One or two Readings from the Bible as appointed.   1st Reading 2nd Reading   The readings may be followed by a period of silence for reflection, a hymn or Hear the message of Christ. Thanks be to God.     7 The Canticle, We praise you O God: we claim you as Lord. All creation thanks you: The Father everlasting. To you all angels, all the powers of heaven: The cherubim and serafim sing in endless praise: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of power and might: Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Father of majesty unbounded: Your true and only son, worthy of all praise, the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide. You, Christ, are the king of glory, the eternal son of the father. When you took our flesh to set us free: You humbly chose the virgin's womb. You overcame the sting of death: And opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers. You are seated at God's right hand in glory: We believe that you will come to be our judge. Come then, God, and help your people, bought with the price of your own blood: And bring us with your Saints to glory everlasting.     9 The Prayers God have mercy.  Christ have mercy.  God have mercy.       10 The Lord's Prayer and the Collect of the Day Our Father in heaven,  hallowed be your name,  your kingdom come,  your will be done,  on earth as in heaven.  Give us today our daily bread.  Forgive us our sins  as we forgive those who sin against us.  Save us from the time of trial  and deliver us from evil.  For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours  now and for ever. Amen.      Prayer of the Week Seventh Sunday after Pentecost Oh God, You have prepared for those who love you such good things as to pass our understanding. Pour into our hearts such love toward you, that loving you above all things we may obtain your promises which exceed all that we can desire; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen     11 Intercessions and Thanksgivings may be made according to local custom and need. Let us pray Loving God, we give you thanks, that through your son Jesus Christ, you have shown us the way to live in your righteousness. You made us in your likeness, you gave your only son Jesus Christ who gave us forgiveness of sin, bring us together as one, different in culture but given new life in Jesus Christ. Reconciled, forgiven, sharing you with others as you have called us to do. We pray for reconciliation with you God and reconciliation with each other and ask for strength to remain in your presence in all we do. God of grace; Hear our prayer.   Saviour God, we remember with love all those that have passed this week. We thank you for the faithfully departed and your servants in every age. We ask that our ancestors and all your saints may be brought to a joyful resurrection and the fulfilment of your glorious kingdom. We remember specifically this week, Anthony Scott, Yvonne Wilson, William Wilson, Alice Williams, Robert Williams, Florence Scott, John Sommerville. God of grace; Hear our prayer.   God of justice, we ask for your help with ending domestic violence. We ask that you shine your heavenly light to guide people to live in peace with each other and make amends, by freeing their victims of abuse. God of grace. Hear our Prayer.   Loving God, we ask your blessing for those listed on the Anglican cycle of prayer: The Diocese of Southeast Florida – The Episcopal Church Ministry to the Defence Force: the Chaplains & Members of the Defence Force The Parish of East Brisbane: All Diocesan Committees St Andrew's Anglican College, Peregian Springs: All Parishes seeking clergy. God of Grace; Hear our prayer.   12 The Morning Collect Eternal God and Father,  by whose power we were created  and through whose love we are redeemed:  guide and strengthen us by your Spirit,  that we may give ourselves to your service,  and live this day in love to one another and to you;  through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.   13 May God be with you. And also with you.  Let us praise our God.  Thanks be to God.    May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant us to live in such harmony with one another in accord with Christ Jesus, that we may with one voice gratify our God and Father.  Amen. I hope you enjoy this podcast from my colleague Alice Williams who is also one of these super bright people, she has an uncanny ability to ask the most probing of questions to see where you are with your understanding so she can help you find the next step on this fantastic journey of osteopathic learning, which ultimately allows us to help more people more often. This is the approach Alice has taken with this article, she has understood that their view is governed by where they are standing and can see this view is the medical view which was likely to be in place during their upbringing and developed further during their undergraduate and post-graduate education. This is why they are where they are, but it is not the osteopathic view.

This episode is an interview with Alice Williams. Alice is the foundation director at ICO and one of her roles, which she is very passionate about, is to take osteopaths who enrol on our courses on the journey of discovery to understand that their view depends upon where they are looking. This allows the osteopath to move from allopathic to osteopathic thinking which is quite a difficult paradigm shift for people as it is the default position we are programmed with at subconscious level. This is the starting place which is critical for helping osteopaths develop their osteopathic thinking. Andrew Taylor Still went through this shift in his thinking, moving from a medical perspective to osteopathic thinking when he discovered osteopathy. Alice is super bright and interesting to listen to.

Alice Williams Bio In a former life, writer Alice Williams worked as a former storyliner on one of Australia's best-loved TV soaps, and is passionate about bringing more diversity to our screens. Alice is now the author of two books, ‘Would it kill you say please?' and ‘Bad Yogi', a memoir about overcoming addiction and teaching yoga. Alice is passionate about the power of storytelling to heal. And in teaching yoga, Alice believes that in shedding light on the hidden ‘shadow' parts of ourselves can be a powerful healing tool. Alice lives in Melbourne with her two children and coaches new authors polish and pitch their manuscripts to publishers. She is currently writing her third book. SHOWNOTES FOR ALICE: Alice's life into yoga came about in a convulated way from feeling a sense of failure in her current job and facing writer's block and her Dad being sick. She had an awakening on Christmas night where she surrendered to the universe and felt like she had to surrender and let go of everything. When Alice was in that “stuck” place she was stuck in a no mans land and was told by her therapist to give things a try and this is where she stumbled into yoga teacher training. One of the things in the course were designed to get in touch with a deeper sense of herself and found this was a way of getting in touch with her body rather than coping her way through food. Alice talks about the 12 steps programme with food and how she felt during the process as she was also doing her yoga teacher training. Alice lost that desire to binge and starve during this time as she learnt to switch off her rationale brain and she connected deeper into her mind and body. Something shifted during this practice where she stripped away everything she believed and let go of things that she was used to and found she went back to writing. The training allowed her to be more like herself. Alice talks about the thinking vs food and how the programme tackles the mindset around food thought and behaviours. Carla and Alice talk about the power of chanting. Alice talks about her second book – the rules of engagement on social media, restaurants, discusses the world of online dating with Carla. Alice's definition of happiness is about being aligned with her inner voice. Alice's morning routine involves getting her kids ready in the morning, a 15 min yoga practice, and journal for 20 mins until her mind is clear, and does a vipassana meditation and get back into her body. Nothing brings Alice more joy than dancing around to music on YouTube and her favourite is Beyonce, she loves having a good belly laugh with a friend and making people laugh whether it's with her book as it gives her a sense of purpose. Her last meal would be anything with seafood and mangoes. Her all-time favourite book is written by Kate Holden: In My Skin. Ricky Gervais, Ivanka Trump would be her fantasy dinner guests What is something I learnt today? Would did I do well? What am I grateful for today? Form as part of Alice's meditation and gratitude routine.

When Anela Malik posted an honest, fair, nuanced review of a local restaurant that departed a little bit from the narrative repeated in most outlets, I thought: “I want to hear more from this woman.” Anela makes that easy by sharing freely about her sourdough baking, her workout regimen, bright red wedding dress, cats, AND her takes on how to support marginalized populations when we go out to eat. I was fascinated by her tagline, “Food is political”, because frankly, I wasn't even sure what that meant. So, I reached out to hear from Anela about all about her dad, a resourceful and talented cook, cooking competitions with her siblings, her experiences living as an Expat in the Middle East that were the catalyst to start her blog, her “maximalist” but simple approach to cooking, and of course: this intriguing statement: “Food is political.” Thrilled to welcome Anela to the show today.
