The way I've discovered success later in life is like the old Bob Dylan quote, “If a man wakes up in the morning and goes to bed at night, and in between does what he likes, then he is a success”. I think, that is the best definition because it's really a story you can write yourself. We always think that when I get to this stage in my business I'll sell it, I'll be happy, but you won't. That won't make you happy in all this sort of state of yours, hold your happiness hostage to something in the future, I'll just do this deal, or do another year, or sell this business, and then I'll be happy. It doesn't happen.  1:52     I thought that you had to be able to buy and sell a business and make hundreds of millions or billions to be worthy5:50     Success is one example, but a lot of our identity and our relationships are embedded around us.8:41     We always think that when I get to this stage in my business I'll sell it, I'll be happy, but you won't.15:41   A mentor said to me take as much cash as you can out the business, and stick it into real estate, stick it into assets19:04   As an entrepreneur you're always thinking or scheming or is plotting or is trying to do something betterhttp://www.grahamdbrown.com About Graham Brown - 15 years helping corporates, startup founders and storytellers find their voice- Public speaker, published author, investor- Founder CEO Pikkal & Co - we create award winning podcasts for brands- Podcast Guesting Pro - get booked on 24 podcasts in the next 6 months- Founder The Podcast Accelerator - global mastermind of podcast hosts & producers- Podcast show host @ Podcast Maps- Author Podcasting for Brands- Artificial Intelligence & Cognitive Psychology (Sussex University)- Entrepreneurship (Harvard Business School HBX)- Ironman triathleteGraham is the founder of Pikkal & Co - Award Winning Podcast Agency – an AI Powered, Data Driven B2B Podcast Agency in Singapore and The Podcast Accelerator - a Mastermind of thought leadership podcast hosts. He is a published author on the subject of The Digital Transformation of Communication, works including "The Human Communication Playbook", “The Mobile Youth: Voices of the Connected Generation” – documenting the rise of mobile culture in the early 2000s in Japan, China, Africa and India and “Brand Love – How to Build a Brand Worth Talking About”.He also hosts Podcast Maps, The Be More Human Podcast, The XL Podcast, XL: 10 Minute Leaders Live and Asia Tech Podcast. What do people love about a certain brand or company? Is it the quality, price, looks, or is it the story behind it?When we think of Apple, Microsoft or Amazon, we think of its founders, how they communicate, how they look on stage or on TV, and associate the company around their image. Companies also project their image around how their product or service looks to their end customer.Storytelling a brand is not something new, it's been done for so long. If you ever watched an episode of Mad Men, even in the 60s they were spinning stories. Then why are we talking about it these days?I believe in a world of so many options for consumers, if it's not the story of the brand, it's hard to differentiate anymore. Even their stories become tiring because it stinks of commercialism. Then how do we do storytelling now? People say "authenticity" but we need to dig deeper into what that means. That's how we do it on the Future Design Podcast.Graham Brown was the host of the Asia Tech Podcast, that hosted guests like Tony Fernandez (CEO of Air Asia) and Rod Drury (former CEO of Xero). Let’s face it, we’re facing a “new normal” in the post-pandemic world. This will create risks and challenges for companies that cannot adapt, but massive opportunities for those that can.  In this episode, we spoke with Graham Brown, host of the Asia Tech Podcast and Chief Storyteller of Pikkal & Co, about how successful companies will transform themselves to succeed in the “new normal” world, in particular around the way they leverage marketing and comms. They will move from a pipeline to platform model - from controlling to curating comms - and from efficiency to effective communications. It’s about turning your employees from assets into advocates.  Show Notes: 00:50 How Graham went from travelling the world and living out of suitcases to starting one of Asia’s leading podcasts 04:10 An agile mindset is what will allow people - and companies - to adapt to the current crisis and be successful in the “new normal” world. 09:10 As Mike Tyson famously said, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” How to survive and thrive in the current environment. 10:30 Covid-19 is driving the innovation of communication. Future comms will transform from a pipeline model to a platform model - from controlling to curating comms - from efficiency to effective communication.  15:50 Who is adapting the comms strategy well?  Zappos’ human-centric customer engagement  Xiaomi’s “unofficial” advertising strategy that leverages fans McKinsey & Company’s “Future of Asia” and “Leap” podcasts 20:05 What advice would you give to a marketing director today to prepare for the post-coronavirus “new normal”? The more we push into Automation, the more businesses and customers will year for the human touch - conversational tools like Podcasts. Evolving platforms that do "everything with everybody" will end up offering the same products to the same customers, the only distinguishing barrier to entry left being the human beings who build and advocate the platform.

This asynchronous competition - players like Alibaba or Amazon - will be well resourced and able to wipe out incumbents and with them generations of legacy. We look at how Asia is positioned to accommodate Digital Transformation and who is leading in this space.
