For so many of us, so often our self-confidence and sense of self go up and down with the seasons. We feel good about ourselves when times are good, and we are intently hard on ourselves, and even think we are failing, when the season, the conditions or the markets go against us. Before Christmas we saw a shock hit the sheep-meat market, impacting meat producers at that time significantly. In many areas of our country, we see farming families navigating extended flood events, and in others extended dries. In this podcast I invite Tracy Secombe- Director Well-being & Coaching at FOA- to join me and explore this issue, and how- as a farm business owner- we can overcome it and rise above it. Ladies & gentlemen, we are not our bank account balance. We are so much more than ‘just farmers' and ‘just farmers wives'. We are leaders of families and great businesses. We are citizens in communities and valued friends to so many. We are good, hard-working, dependable, capable humans doing very good work and making very real differences in so many ways. As we explore in this important discussion, we have the opportunity to take ownership of OUR IDENTITY. We have the opportunity to change our personal story and realise that farming is what we do, it is NOT who we are. In the episode, Tracy shares some tips on how to expand our identity, to include all the important roles we play; how to find a greater sense of balance between them; and how to also shift our sense of self to ‘who we are' rather than ‘what we do'. Tracy also helps us understand how can best navigate those moments in life when our Identity needs to shift from an active farmer into retirement; from technical farmer to farm business owner; from ‘farmers wife' to ‘partner in a successful family business' and from career person to being a Mum & Dad for the first time… Changing our story and embracing practices that support a strpgner sense- of self and a well-rounded IDENTITY is fundamental in the pursuit of growth and expansion in any area of life. Elite athletes, musicians, artists and professionals all get coaching on this – Australian Rugby Captain Michael Hooper's interview with Ben Crowe on his podcast ‘Car Chats with Crowey' being a great example. Good enough for them, equally important for us. Thank you Tracy for your time and for your insights on such an important topic at this time. Thank you. Hutch & Team
What we're talking about: 1:33 What is a Bachelor of Arts? Don't confuse “Art” with “Arts”! While the subject Art at school involves things like painting and drawing, a Bachelor of Arts is more about humanities and exploring ideas through a particular perspective. Some people are reluctant to pursue a Bachelor of Arts because they think it won't lead anywhere, however if you look at the majors within the course, there are heaps of things you can study within a Bachelor of Arts that very clearly leads to a particular job or career. 6:42 What if you don't know what you want to do in your career? If you don't know yet what you want to do in your career, that's totally normal and completely fine. I firmly believe that if you're passionate about something and keep learning and networking in that area, opportunities will become available to you. I give a couple of examples of people who studied Arts and didn't know where it was going to take them, including Ash Barty's mindset coach, Ben Crowe. 8:56 A Bachelor of Arts works really well as part of a double degree A fantastic way to explore a greater range of areas, round out your education and have more to talk about in job interviews is to combine Arts with another degree. 10:51 The majors that are offered are important A Bachelor of Arts at 2 different universities can look completely different, so make sure you take a look at what's offered so you can choose the right one for you. I go through some of the majors offered at The University of Melbourne, Monash University, RMIT, Swinburne and Deakin to give you an idea of what your Bachelor of Arts could look like depending on where you choose to study. It's surprising how much the discussion about thoughts and thinking in basketball can apply to creativity. This episode is with BriAnna Garza, a professional basketball shooting coach. She currently coaches players in the (American) NBA, WNBA (as well as the NCAA and youth players) on both shot development and thought development. BriAnna is also the founder/owner of Shooters Shoot— a mentorship program that focuses on the same two things. The training model was inspired by BriAnna's passion for coaching both the science and the mindset of shooting. Katherine first learned of BriAnna via Instagram. You MUST follow her! True to her philosophy, her Insta is half basketball and half thought development. It's super interesting and a lot of what she talks about can be adapted to the creative realm. Katherine and BriAnna discuss A LOT including: - neutral thinking - the role of emotion - visualisation - how to to do it and how to get the most out of it - the importance of a 'culture of error' - the Pygmalion Effect and more... Many listeners to the show would have heard Katherine talk about Ben Crowe, BriAnna reminds her of Ben Crowe, except she's young – not that he's old -- and a woman. But she has a similar way of thinking that's about inspiring people to do and be their best and live with purpose. KC is such a big fan of BriAnna and thinks you will be too, after hearing her speak. In this inaugural episode of the imperfix, Hugh takes us back to our very first Academy of Imperfection, where special guest Ben Crowe explores what it actually means to define your purpose. We discuss Ryan, Hugh & Ben's purposes, how they defined them, and how important they are in shaping their respective every-days. We also delve a little deeper into Josh's seeming ‘lack of purpose' and find that he might actually have a bit more purpose there than he realises. Mindset coach to some of the world's finest athletes, Ben Crowe reflects on his dadding journey so far. Given Ben is used to helping other people discover their story rather than delving into and analysing his own, we are really grateful to him for his openness and honesty, in what was a fascinating chat with Hame. Ben is the first to admit, like all of us, he's continually making mistakes as a parent, and that putting all his professional knowledge into practice as a dad is far easier said than done. However, as someone who can expertly distil simple lessons from complex philosophies, Ben has some amazing insights to offer and some beautifully accessible and practical advice that we can all take something from. And these days Ben isn't just helping people win Wimbledon… anyone can rediscover their mojo via his app, aptly called Mojo. Check it out! Big thanks to Ben for chatting with us. He's an in-demand guy, so we really appreciate his time and wisdom. This is the penultimate episode for Season 2 - and for our wild rule breaking finale we are lucky enough to have back behavioural paediatrician, Dr. Billy Garvey, who will be revisting some previous episodes with his expert eye, or rather ear… and brain. It's the cheat sheet ep! This Academy of Imperfection is a Part 2, or… addendum episode… with the phenom that is Ben Crowe! So, if you haven't heard Part 1, please listen to that one first by following the link below. In this episode, Ben expands on what he said in Part 1 about listening to your inner fan rather than your inner critic. He guides Hugh, Ryan and Josh through some simple exercises where they access positive memories from their past, so they can reframe their belief system, that they're worthy of love and connection and belonging, and also worthy of having the courage to chase their dreams and goals. These are exercises anyone can do - either during this episode, or even better, with Ben's MojoCrowe Mindset Course available at the link below. To listen to part 1 of our chat with Ben, follow this link: http://bit.ly/3Z0duNC To learn more about Ben Crowe, the Mojo Crowe app and course, follow this link: https://mojocrowe.com/ To watch Ryan's short film, Loop Hole, follow this link: https://bit.ly/42rAGr2See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Are you ready for some flirty banter, or flanter? If you've seen the hugely successful reality TV franchise ‘Love Island UK' or its various spinoffs, you'll be well acquainted with the term ‘flanter'. Thanks to a hideous head cold and a lack of sleep, Em has found herself bingeing bulk episodes of ‘Love Island UK', she's got lots of thoughts and feels and even a series of alternative options that are all guaranteed to be ratings winners. Aside from that erotic deep dive, Em and Michael will talk through the table read of the new season of Michael's Logie award winning series ‘The Newsreader', we also need to process the news that Australian Idol is back, but only if you're under 28. Plus Em takes us through the lengths she went through to get herself front and centre with Ash Barty's inspirational mindset coach Ben Crowe. He's now on board to help her break through her writer's block ahead of her National Press Club address. This episode is inspired by one of my favourite podcasts - The Life of Greatness and an incredible guest Ben Crowe. Listening to his wisdom has changed my life and my views. Let's all love ourselves unconditionally.
It's the final week of the Olympics, and Myf and Zan are blown away by the strength, vulnerability, and power of Simone Biles. Her decision to step back from competing in several events is the latest in a time where athletes are speaking out about the importance of protecting their mental health. Meanwhile a piece on how to forecast fashion in a pandemic confirms that this and every other industry is being turned on it's head. And we're banging on about a hopeful new TV show, and a riveting podcast.
