“God of War Ragnarok,” the mythological mega-sequel to 2018′s soft series reboot “God of War,” arrives Nov. 9, 2022, to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Sony announced in a blog published Wednesday. But the road to the long-awaited release date has been anything but straightforward. The month of June saw expectant fans rumormonger themselves into a frenzy, ultimately unleashing their pent-up fury on developers who have spent the past several years working tirelessly to create the game. As far as major 2022 video game releases go, “Ragnarok” from Sony's Santa Monica Studio reigns as one of the biggest fish in a conspicuously empty pond. Delays born of covid-19 and the legacy of “Cyberpunk 2077′s” disastrous launch have pushed heavy hitters like Bethesda's “Starfield” and Nintendo's sequel to “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild″ into the distant reaches of 2023. This context loomed over the lead up to “Ragnarok's” release date announcement. Fans expecting news during last month's Summer Game Fest were disappointed to see neither hide nor beard hair of PlayStation's baddest, dad-est mascot. All the while, “industry insiders” of varying (and often dubious) repute hyped up fans for a June 30 release date reveal. The fuss prompted Santa Monica creative director Cory Barlog to ask fans to “please, be patient” on Twitter. source: ‘God of War Ragnarok' release date reveal follows fan harassment of devs (msn.com) --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/masseffect/support
Six-Button Samurai and @GameAgentET (OGiH) surf through a riptide of gaming currents, such as the sudden seeming dearth of Xbox titles for fall 2022 in the wake of Bethesda's Starfield and Redfall being delayed, a class-action lawsuit being filed against retrogaming inflationists Wata Games, and some fantastic new wrinkles for the MiSTer. And while Eddy has been spending more time watching streaming TV given his savage workload, JJJ has been playing all kinds of games, including (gasp) a modern AAA-blockbuster of all things? Last but not least... our cross-Pacific heroes talk about bad games they know are bad but adore regardless, such as Vic Tokai's (classic?) Golgo 13 - Top Secret Episode for the NES. Gotham Knights showed of some gameplay in a 14 minute showcase and... well... it looks pretty terrible! We delve into why the game looks so terrible! But before we get into it we discuss Bethesda's Starfield and Redfall's delay into 2023 and EA dropping FIFA from its annual football sim.
Here we go again. Another year another uninspired announcement of a highly anticipated game with a half-assed logo reveal. Activision Blizzard have shown off the logo for Modern Warfare 2 and quite frankly, we deserve better than this. I mean surely we're getting tired of the same old rehashed games? We need something new, right? Maybe something like Bethesda's Starfield? Well, time will tell. In the meantime, there is plenty of non-gaming stuff to tide us over - From Elon Musk buying Twitter for crazy stupid money to the madness that is the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial? We. Are. Link to article: https://bit.ly/3r1NlAwActivision plans to release at least the next three Call of Duty games on both Sony and Microsoft consoles, Bloomberg reports. The new report should be a sigh of relief to fans who were worried Microsoft would immediately make new Call of Duty games Xbox exclusive if its blockbuster acquisition of Activision goes through.According to Bloomberg, Activision had already committed to bring “the next few” Call of Duty titles to PlayStation sometime before Microsoft's acquisition was announced. Last week, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said he told Sony that Microsoft wants to “keep Call of Duty on PlayStation” and that the company intends to honor existing agreements, so it seems like Activision's commitment with Sony will stay in place. The upcoming Call of Duty games coming to PlayStation will apparently include a new Modern Warfare game from Infinity Ward this year, the next Call of Duty game from Treyarch, and a “planned new iteration” of the free-to-play battle royale shooter Call of Duty: Warzone. However, we're still a long ways out from Activision officially becoming a Microsoft-owned studio, meaning the fate of the Call of Duty series isn't set in stone just yet. The acquisition isn't expected to close until sometime in Microsoft's 2023 fiscal year, which begins on July 1st and ends on June 30th, 2023.If the acquisition goes through, we still don't know if Microsoft plans to make the Call of Duty series Xbox exclusive long-term — and previous acquisitions show that the company is willing to take different approaches with its franchises. While Microsoft will only be releasing Bethesda's Starfield on Xbox and PC, Minecraft remains available on many platforms.Activision, Microsoft, and Sony didn't immediately reply to a request for comment.Support the show (https://bit.ly/2XdAlJC)

It's virtual E3 season, with dozens of major games announcements over the weekend. Here's just a few of that caught our eye.Bethesda's Starfield had its first game footage, though still incredibly vague apart from the obvious "you'll be on spaceships visiting far away worlds" vibes. But the big news was the confirmation this game is the first Bethesda title to be announced as a full Xbox exclusive, scheduled for release on November 11, 2022. It was notable that the combined Xbox and Bethesda event was opened not by Microsoft's Phil Spencer but by Bethesda's Todd Howard, a big statement on the unification of the massive developer with the platform giant. In another crucial development during the Xbox event was the consistent foregrounding of how most every game was announced as day one on Xbox Game Pass, pushing the subscription service as the primary mode of access to Xbox first-party games, but also that Xbox Cloud Gaming is no longer being mentioned as a side project but as one of the 'platforms' games are being launched on. At every end screen where platforms were mentioned, Xbox Cloud Gaming sat clearly alongside Xbox Series consoles and Windows 10 PCs. That pre-announcement of the increased cloud delivery format made it easy to just slide this in everywhere, but it is perhaps the most important development for the future of Microsoft's gaming business – as a service you join, not a box you buy.Elsewhere in E3 news, dozens of games have had announcements and dates across the various conferences, including Left 4 Dead spiritual successor Back 4 Blood coming on October 12, Halo Infinite still coming 'this year' but getting an entirely free multiplayer mode, a Jack Sparrow crossover in Seat of Thieves, Ubisoft announced a new Mario + Rabbids game coming next year, Diablo II Resurrected is coming September 23, Rainbow Six Extraction is coming September 16, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands – a Borderlands fantasy D&D inspired spin-off – is coming early 2022, Forza Horizon 5 is taking this show to Mexico, and perhaps my personal favourite of the show so far is a vampire shooter called Redfall from the team behind Dishonored. The Federal Court has approved the $112M settlement in the robo-debt court battles, with presiding judge Bernard Murphy has delivered an unequivocal rebuke to the federal government, calling it an unlawful program. "The proceeding has exposed a shameful chapter in the administration of the Commonwealth social security system and a massive failure of public administration... It should have been obvious to the senior public servants charged with overseeing the robo-debt system and to the responsible minister at different points that many social security recipients do not earn a stable or constant income..." The settlement means the federal government does not have to admit any liability regarding the scheme.https://www.zdnet.com/article/federal-court-approves-au112m-compensation-in-settlement-for-robo-debt-failure/NBN Co is considering whether to pursue a request to have its monopoly broadband provider status revoked in markets where it is facing competition from 5G services. The National Broadband Network is held to a special access undertaking agreement until the year 2040, which must have any changes or updates cleared by the ACCC. The NBN points out that one in three homes are not using the NBN, calling this a reflection of the dynamic nature of the market and not that the NBN is delivering a poorer quality of service than alternatives in many locations. It is a rare quiet week for Xbox as we quickly approach E3. As plans begin to be set in stone, we look at the potential titles to expect at gaming's biggest show and, subsequently a release in the fall. That's where Bethesda Game Studios' first new IP in two decades arrives and sets the conversation for our show. With more rumbles of a 2021 reveal and release, should we truly expect that with how game development has gone?
