Although Sydney is the only musical one in her family, she has always had their full support throughout her journey. It began with competing in local talent shows when she was 7 and by the time she was 10, she had already struck gold by winning first place in the Erie County Fair Talent Competition. She has since kept that momentum, singing the national anthem at a Buffalo Sabres game this year and multiple Buffalo Bisons games. She has also been a regular performer at a local music arts festival organized by Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls. Her dedicated mom has played a crucial role in Sydney's success, including scouting singing opportunities on social media to finding local competitions for Sydney to compete. Sydney recently won a TikTok challenge promoted by Broadway Evolved. Unsure if the competition was real and never dreaming it would lead to anything, Sydney was blown away when she won. She was flown out to New York on an all-expenses-paid trip for a weeklong Broadway intensive with Betsy Wolfe, an experience she will never forget.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Betsy Wolfe and Stark Sands are currently co-starring as the husband and wife duo Anne Hathaway and William Shakespeare in the hit Broadway show, “& Juliet”. The two speak about their relationship with Max Martin and his songs, the broad appeal of the show, and how they got involved with it. Betsy reflects on what makes the show special. Being the only parents in the show, Betsy and Stark share fondly what it's like to have their kids watch the show and recognize the songs they sing outside of the play. From waiting at the stage door and dreaming of performing on stage to seeing kids, famous actors, and artists like Will Ferrell, Katy Perry, and Chris Martin watch their show is a full circle moment for both Betsy and Stark. The two recall their humble beginnings, what got them into theatre and performing, and what it's like to act alongside people they just used to admire. Both grateful for all these full circle moments in their lives, Betsy and Stark reflect on the fame that comes with being on Broadway and why it's different from being TV and movie famous but in a good way, and the importance of making bold choices and stepping out of the box. “It's not going to be perfect, but nothing is perfect. The hardest thing about making music is finishing music.” How does the multi-hyphenate differ from coast to coast? On this episode of Dear Multi-Hyphenate, dj-choreographer-producer-performer, wasn't originally drawn to the word multi-hyphenate or “Renaissance Woman”. But in 2021, Penny Wildman, who also goes by PENNYWILD, resonates with the phrase as she no longer waits for permission to tackle her avenues. Are we in a new era of Artist's Guilt and has it flipped on its head? Where an Artist's Guilt is usually born out of an artist feeling they aren't creating enough… in a response to a pandemic, is it the guilt now is a response to creating too much, especially in a world where so many people are less inspired to create. PennyWild is always finding the balance in, you guessed it, social media - especially TikTok. The app can change lives, but is the Russian Roulette gamble worth it? What does growth actually look like and how can we get from point A to point B. Like PennyWild says, sometimes we are just flying by the seat of our pants. Sometimes it just takes ONE moment to hit us in the “pleasure center” to disenroll from our college courses and switch gears. People may think it's weird, but when we find paths for artistic opportunities - it can create a beautiful orb of work. It may not make sense on paper, but it's a beautiful thing. “Nothing in life is black and white. It's all very nuanced. It's all very complicated and that really checks out with this year.” Penny Wildman is a Music Producer, DJ, Director, and Choreographer living in Los Angeles by way of New York City. She has choreographed/directed for the likes of Zedd, Rich The Kid, Laidback Luke, Enrique Iglesias, Marian Hill, Weird Al, Gucci Mane, amongst others. Theatrical Choreography credits include Ryan Murphy's FEUD: Bette & Joan (FX), ANNIE at The Hollywood Bowl (Associate), Merrily… at The Wallis Theatre (Associate), The Mystery of Edwin Drood at Boston Conservatory, Little Miss Fix-It at PACE University, etc. As PENNYWILD, she has performed at globally renowned music festivals such as Coachella, SXSW, Lightning in a Bottle, BUKU Arts Festival, HARD Summer etc. She released her 1st single on Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records, followed by her debut EP on Dome of Doom Records in October 2020. Her sophomore EP will be released Summer 2021. Penny appeared on London's prestigious West End in the iconic Broadway musical West Side Story and toured with the production throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. Penny is also a Dance Coach/Choreographer for MTCA (Musical Theatre College Auditions). Find her @PennyWildMusic and PennyWildMusic.com. Betsy Wolfe has established herself as one of the most versatile and keenly intelligent Broadway performers of her generation. She recently starred as Jenna Hunterson, the title role in the Tony nominated musical Waitress. Prior to that, she played Cordelia, one of the one of the lovable “lesbians from next door,” in the Broadway revival of Falsettos directed by James Lapine, which recently aired on PBS. She is perhaps best known for her critically acclaimed performance as Cathy in the off-Broadway revival of The Last Five Years. In TV, she was most recently seen in a guest star role on season 2 of the CBS series INSTINCT. She also just wrapped the indie feature FIRST ONE IN with Georgia King. Originally from California, Betsy received her BFA in musical theatre from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. At age twenty—prior to graduation and prior being able to legally drink or get a British pilot’s license—she made her Carnegie Hall debut with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra under Maestro Erich Kunzel. After receiving her BFA, Betsy quickly starred in the San Francisco and Boston companies of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Soon after, she made her Broadway debut in the revival of 110 in the Shade. Betsy started to gain attention for her next role in both the off-Broadway and Broadway productions of Sherie Rene Scott’s Everyday Rapture, where she played one of the two Mennonettes. Only a few years later, Betsy would be Scott’s successor in one of contemporary musical theatre’s most challenging and well-known roles: Cathy in Second Stage Theatre’s revival of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years. Her complex performance as Cathy was lauded by critics and audiences alike. Betsy’s other Broadway credits include Ellen in the 2014 production of Bullets Over Broadwaydirected by Susan Stroman and Rosa Bud in The Mystery of Edwin Drood. She also appeared as Beth in the Encores! production of Merrily We Roll Along. YOU GUYS!! The day has finally arrived! We are SO thrilled to share this hilarious and heart warming interview with Betsy Wolfe with all of you!Betsy made her Broadway debut in the 2007 production of "110 In The Shade" (which she got through an OPEN CALL! Open calls really work sometimes, you guys!). Her next Broadway gig was alongside our pal Lindsay Mendez backing up Sherie Rene Scott in one of my all time favorite shows, "Everyday Rapture" in 2010. In 2012 she starred as Rosa Bud in Roundabout Theater Company production of "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" before going on to win the coveted role of Cathy in the Second Stage production of Jason Robert Brown's "The Last Five" Years in 2013. She was last seen on Broadway in the 2014 production of "Bullets Over Broadway." Of course, she recently starred as Elsa in the lab production of the Broadway bound "Frozen." That all happened after this interview was recorded, so we don't get into that here....it just means that she'll hopefully come back to talk about it!She was such a great interview. Enjoy!
OK fellow Theater People, you've been asking for this interview for almost as long as the podcast has existed, so we are THRILLED to be bringing you this episode featuring the fabulous Adam Kantor!Adam made his Broadway debut in 2008 as Marc in the closing Broadway company of 'Rent' (grab your tissues when he tells the story of how he learned he'd won the roll) and he went on to replace in the role of Henry in the hit Broadway production of 'Next to Normal.' In 2013, he was cast as Jamie opposite Betsy Wolfe in Second Stage's highly anticipated revival of Jason Robert Brown's 'The Last Five Years.' This season he's back on Broadway in the role of Motel in the Bartlett Sher helmed production of 'Fiddler on the Roof.' We had such a great time chatting in his dressing room surrounded by old family photos and heirlooms that are so meaningful to him--especially as they relate to his work in 'Fiddler,' we'll let him explain that further. Enjoy!
WE LOVE ELIZABETH STANLEY! Currently headlining the national tour of "The Bridges of Madison County," Elizabeth was most recently seen on Broadway as Claire in last season's Tony nominated "On The Town." We first discovered Elizabeth in the 2006 John Doyle production of "Company," in which she played April (as well as the oboe, alto saxophone, and tuba). She went on to star in the short-lived but much-loved Broadway production of John Waters's "Cry Baby." She followed that performance up as Dyanne in the 2010 production of "Million Dollar Quartet." We have to say, though, it was her turn as Gussie in the 2012 Encores production of "Merrily We Roll Along" alongside Celia Keenan-Bolger, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Betsy Wolfe, and Colin Donnell that cemented her standing as one of today's greatest theater stars. Enjoy! Oh, and check out www.bridgesmusical.com to find out when the tour of "Bridges" will be in a city near you!
