NOMAD Music Festival – Seth Ransonet

Discover Lafayette

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 13, 2024 37:49

Seth Ransonet joins Discover Lafayette to discuss the third annual NOMAD Music Festival to be held on September 21, 2024 at Warehouse 535. NOMAD is a wholesome music event emphasizing family-friendly values and aiming to promote truth, goodness, and beauty through music. It's mission is to glorify God and inspire people to find their true home, spiritually and emotionally, through the power of music and community. The name "NOMAD" was selected because the event strives to inspire all wanderers to find their true home. A graduate of UL-Lafayette and a theology teacher at Teurlings Catholic High School, Seth Ransonet co-founded the NOMAD Music Festival with Jude Lecompte. The two were roommates when they attended a performance in Houston by Caamp, an American folk band from Ohio, which Seth calls a "top 10" band. They had so much fun it inspired them to start their own music festival here in Lafayette LA. Seth recalled Jude saying, "We need to start an event that's wholesome, family-friendly, and a nice hang out." The young men were 22 and 23 years old at the time of NOMAD's inception. The third annual NOMAD Music Festival will be held on September 21, 11:00 a.m to 9 p.m. at Warehouse 535 in Lafayette, and features a variety of local and visiting artists, providing them with a platform to grow and reach a wider audience. Working to create a vibrant community experience, the event kicks off with a Catholic mass which is open to the people of all faiths. Games for the kids will be provided and anyone who loves dancing is sure to enjoy NOMAD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eLZLYAhwms&t=64s The headliner band is Happy Landing, and NOMAD 2024 also includes artists such as Zach Edwards and the Medicine, Kaleb Oliver, Swampland Stringband, Amis Du Teche, Mia Montero, Crosby & Ellender, Gabe Parsons, and Eden. General admission tickets are $39.99 (with family discounts provided to families attending with their children) and food trucks will be onsite offering meals for purchase. Parking is available onsite. To find out more, visit https://www.nomadmusicfest.com/. Discover Lafayette would like to thank Seth Ransonet, as well as NOMAD co-founder Jude LeCompte, for endeavoring to bring wholesome family entertainment to Acadiana. Seth is now only 24 years old and has taken on not only full-time teaching at Teurlings Catholic High School, but learning entrepreneurship as a festival organizer trying to break even, if not make a profit. An eagle scout who grew up singing Irish folk songs around the campfire, Seth has always been a person of faith who wanted to serve his Catholic church. Best wishes on a successful 2024 NOMAD Music Festival!

Their debut album, "West of It All," set to release on September 15th via ATO Records, is a coming-of-age soundtrack that explores the landscape of their Texas origins while embracing the modern evolution of this cherished genre. With a unique blend of classic and contemporary influences, Briscoe's music transports listeners to the rural countryside of Texas while maintaining a fresh, forward-looking sound. The album, "West of It All," was crafted in the Lone Star State but found its recording home in North Carolina under the guidance of Grammy-nominated producer Brad Cook, known for his work with Bon Iver, Waxahatchee, and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats. The result is an album that defies traditional musical boundaries, seamlessly blending elements of folk, rock, and pop. The first single, "The Well," is a rootsy, foot-stomping anthem that captures the essence of Briscoe's energy and passion. Meanwhile, the second single, "Sparrows," offers a glimpse into their storytelling prowess, accompanied by a mesmerizing music video.Briscoe's journey began when they were signed by ATO Records while still undergraduates at the University of Texas at Austin. Drawing inspiration from their college experiences, the band weaves tales of heartbreak, life lessons, and adventures in the countryside into their music. Truett Heintzelman and Philip Lupton, the core members of Briscoe, are highly capable multi-instrumentalists who bring depth and authenticity to their songs. With acoustic guitars, plucky banjo, and harmonies that soar, they create a sound that nods to the golden era of folk and rock while embracing a modern sensibility.Briscoe's journey from humble beginnings, including free backyard performances near their college campus, to sold-out gigs at prestigious venues like Antone's Nightclub and The Continental Club Gallery is a testament to their organic growth and musical prowess. They've opened for acclaimed artists like Noah Kahan, Ruston Kelly, Zach Bryan, and Caamp, solidifying their place in the contemporary folk and Americana scene. With "The Well" already making waves on Americana radio as the #1 most added song, Briscoe's future looks promising. As they prepare to headline a fall tour in support of "West of It All," Briscoe is poised to make a lasting impact on the Americana and folk-rock landscape. Their self-assured and genre-fluid music charts its own course, inviting listeners to embark on a musical journey that transcends time and place. "West of It All" promises to be an album that leaves a lasting impression on the ever-evolving world of AmeThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

Today I talk to Philip and Truett from the Austin, Texas band BRISCOE.  We talk about their recent show where they got to open for The Dave Matthews Band, the making of the new album WEST OF IT ALL, a couple of the songs off the new album and more!   ABOUT BRISCOE: Briscoe is Truett Heintzelman and Philip Lupton. To record West of It All, the duo was joined by producer Brad Cook on bass, drummer Matt McCaughan (Bon Iver), and multi-instrumentalist Phil Cook (Megafaun, Hiss Golden Messenger). Signed by ATO Records while undergrads, the Texan duo wrote West of It All as graduation loomed in the distance, funneling the stories of their college experience — from heartbreak to hard-won lessons to weekend trips into the rural countryside — into a raw, rugged blend of classic and contemporary influences. The result is a collection of 10 songs with folksy hooks and bold songwriting that bridges the gap between classic American roots music and its modern-day incarnation.    Formed at University of Texas at Austin, Briscoe quickly went from college gigs to selling out Antone's and the Continental Club Gallery. As Briscoe continued to perform and grow their fanbase, a wider audience began to take notice. They soon opened shows for Noah Kahan and Ruston Kelly and were selected for dates with Zach Bryan and Caamp. After recently graduating from UT, Briscoe has had a packed touring summer filled with festivals alongside some of music's biggest names — Bonnaroo, Winnetka Music Festival, FairWell Festival, Catbird Music Festival, and Iron Blossom Music Festival are a few.  The band is currently headlining a tour this fall to support West of It All.  You can order the new album and Briscoe Merchandise at : www.briscoetheband.com **************   KNOW GOOD MUSIC can be found on Podbean (host site), Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Iheart Radio, Pandora and almost anywhere you listen to podcasts.     Visit our YouTube Channel where you can see a couple video segments from each of our interviews.  Just search "know good music".   Thanks for listening Rob

A moment of remembrance this week for Alelia Murphy, who I mentioned back in July on Episode 30 of the podcast when she celebrated her birthday as the oldest living American. The Harlem resident died at the end of November at the age of 114 years, 140 days old. Ms. Murphy was born in North Carolina in 1905 and has lived in Harlem since the 1920s. Her funeral was held December 6th at the United House of Prayer for all People church on Frederick Douglass Boulevard. The previous oldest American, Lessie Brown, died in January 2019. According to the Gerontology Research Group, the oldest living American is now Hester Ford, born just one month after Ms. Murphy in 1905. According to the records of the Gerontology Research Group, the oldest known New Yorker was Susannah Mushatt Jones, who was born in 1899 and lived 116 years, 311 days until her death in 2016 at a senior home in Brooklyn. At the World Trade Center, the second-most Ubered-to location worldwide, 12 subway lines and the PATH train stop nearby. According to the DOT's 2019 Mobility Report, on 34th, 42nd, and 57th Streets, over 50% of the traffic is composed of taxis and rideshare vehicles, and traffic speeds in Midtown are 30% slower compared to the rest of Manhattan south of 59th, with vehicles creeping along at just 4.9 mph.
