Hello Adventurers! Earlier this year we took a trip out to St. Louis, Missouri to check out a most excellent Final Fantasy XIV fan convention: GATEway FATE 2.0! This was their second year and we had heard so many good things about its first year, we were really excited to try it out for ourselves. And we were not disappointed. But don't take our word for it! Wait, no… Actually do take our word for it, but in audio form! This is a podcast, after all. Spoiler Levels: Larboard/Starboard Chicken Tenders with fries “are ready to fry!” This was just one of the many delicious food options that they had in their Last Stand food stall in the convention center. And yes, we do realize that we said both “delicious food options” and “in the convention center” within the same sentence! It was just one of the many things that really impressed us about this con. Hello Adventurers! Did you know that Final Fantasy XIV is the fourteenth mainline Final Fantasy game? It's true! In fact there were a whole thirteen other games that came before it, if you can believe it. So for this episode, we are talking about the first three. But it's been a minute since some of us (Basil) has played the first three games, and we needed some help. Some fresh eyes on these games, some eyes that really know how to grind out some gear. If you haven't figured it out yet, our special guests for this episode are none other than Garrett and Kyle from Grinding Gear! Spoiler Levels: Chicken Fettuccine “Flat, thick pasta smothered in a rich cream sauce with tender slices of chicken thigh.” This food that offers bonuses to Critical Hit, Vitality, and Skill Speed was introduced in patch 5.4 Futures Rewritten during the Shadowbringers expansion and also included the Matoya's Relict dungeon! You know, Matoya! From Final Fantasy (I)!OSMnotesOnce again we want to think Garrett and Kyle for joining us! Have you heard of them before? They're on YouTube! Hello Adventurers! Well, here we are again. There has been a brand new patch, and we are here to talk about it all! Well… at least a lot of it, anyroad. We cover some of the less spoiler-y parts of patch 7.3 The Promise of Tomorrow, before really digging into spoilers talking about the MSQ, dungeon, the trial, and more! That more includes a bunch of things that has just happened, but also things that are happening right now… But also in the future? This podcast contains multitudes, and we welcome you to come listen.Spoiler Levels: DAM! This rainbow energy beverage will allegedly bestow the drinker with metaphorical fangs to gnaw through any challenge and do their DAM-dest. Excessive consumption is ill-advised… But only if you haven't filled yourself up with all that Patch 7.3 MSQ goodness! If it is the case that you have, you're free and clear to listen away. Hello Adventurers! Over these past couple of months, some of us have reignited with an old collectible card game flame (and some of us are brand new to it)! That flame of a card game is Magic: The Gathering, and we're playing it all thanks to it's latest expansion: Final Fantasy! All sixteen mainline games are represented, which includes the critically acclaimed MMORPG that this podcast is all about. So here is an episode all about it. We talk about what cards we like, what it was getting back into it, how well it works as a Final Fantasy thing that's also a Magic: the Gathering thing, and the perils of buying card games that are also collectible. Spoiler Levels: Food Token! 2 Colorless Mana, Tap, Sacrifice this artifact: You gain 3 life. Feel free to chow down on this episode that's full of Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy, but pretty light on spoilers. OSMnotesIf you are interested into looking more Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy yourself, here's a link to Magic's website for it. Tonight, we'll read a short story titled “The Great Carbuncle” written by Nathaniel Hawthorne and published in 1835. Set in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, a band of eight adventurers gathers together. They are each on a personal quest for the Great Carbuncle, a brilliant gem legendary in its elusiveness. The story's ensemble cast represents a spectrum of motivations—scientific curiosity, fame, greed, and reverence—each character convinced they deserve the Carbuncle more than the next. But it's the quiet presence of a humble newlywed couple, seeking only to glimpse the stone and return to a modest life, that serves as the story's moral compass. While there was never a documented search for a mythical gemstone like the Great Carbuncle in New England, the region has long been home to mineral and gem prospecting. Hawthorne likely drew inspiration from this local landscape of rugged ambition and romantic wilderness to craft a legend that, though fictional, feels rooted in place. — read by 'N' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus! Hello Adventurers! We hope that this 24 Hour Maintenance of Final Fantasy XIV is treating you well. To help pass the time as we while away the hours for the game to come back online, we have a new episode covering the little things in latest Patch Notes for 7.2: Seekers of Eternity. The things you might gloss over at first glace, but once you dog in for deeper dive… Things that could still be pretty important!Spoiler Levels: Roast Chicken! Hello Adventurers! As Valentione's Day has just passed us by, we thought now would be a great time to show some of the characters in Final Fantasy XIV some love. As it just so happens, GPOSERS had kicked off the month with a post on Bluesky that links to a FFXIV character Tiermaker. And thus, after recording for three or so hours… and many… many more hours of editing after the fact, we now present to you The Official Carbuncle Chronicle Character Rankings: From ARR to Endwalker. But also, we talk a little bit about what we are excited for in the upcoming patch of 7.2: Seekers of Eternity.Spoiler Levels: Archon Loaf! Baked with either fish or vegetable flour, this fluffy loaf of rye bread is?from a nutritional standpoint?wholesome indeed. OK, so rather than fish or vegetable flour, this no-less fluffy loaf of a podcast is baked with love (and hate) for the many great (and terrible) NPCs that form the backbone of the MMORPG we all enjoy! So spoilers will, in fact, be aplenty.OSMnotesThank you to GPOSERS for the great idea prompt for the podcast topic! But without further ado, here's that final tier ranking image:But also, Time Cues! Hello Adventurers! While our last episode was all about our journey through Dawntrail as it was happening, this one is looking back at after finishing the Mainline Story Quest (colloquially known as the MSQ). Since we are now in the thick of Patch 7.1: Crossroads, we wanted to make sure to take a beat before the patch hit and get our thoughts out before the game continues to change and grow.Joining us in reminiscing of uh, times not all that long passed, is our pal Umi aka Doug from OSMcast proper. He gives us a blow by blow of all the Jobs he's been playing since the new expansion came out, and came up with some excellent sound design tips! And how about that MSQ , huh? Stuff sure happens, and we talk all about it! Finally, we get ourselves all hyped up for the new patch (which is already out). If you want our thoughts on that however, you'll just have to… Wait for it.Spoiler Levels: Creamy Alpaca Pasta! These rustic handmade noodles are boiled until tender, then tossed in a pan with grilled alpaca fillet and broccoli florets in a cream sauce. This hearty dish is the perfect compliment to both speeding up your spells' cast times, but also for really digging into the spoilers that we chat about in the later portions of the episode.OSMnotesYou know it, you love it, you may even use it! Welcome, friends, to another chilling journey into the unknown. Tonight, we dive into the world of the Ouija board—a simple piece of wood, or so it seems, that holds the power to unlock doors better left closed. Many have toyed with it, seeking answers from beyond, only to find themselves tangled in something far darker and more dangerous than they ever imagined. It's not just a game. It's a gateway—a portal to forces that can deceive, torment, and haunt long after the board is put away. As you listen to this collection of true Ouija board horror stories, remember: curiosity can be a dangerous thing, and the spirits you reach out to might just reach back. So, settle in, turn down the lights, and prepare yourself for Volume 4 of Tales From the Ouija. Remember friends, when messing with a Ouija Board, you're not just asking questions—you're opening a door. And the thing about doors is, you never really know what's on the other side. Hello Adventurers! OK, we are actually finally here! It's Dawntrail time! Now that said, it's been a month and change since release. But this episode is a amalgamation of multiple sound bites that we all recorded when the expansion was just launched into early access. It covers the first, oh we dunno, two-thirds of the game? Right up into Zone 5. All those early moments, storytelling beats, the various dungeons and trails? Hanging out with Wut Lamat and scopin' out Tural? As we experienced them, we set voice to microphone and recorded them for you. Enjoy.Spoiler Levels: Tender Shortcake! Layered with whipped cream and sliced nopalitender tunas, this light and fruity desert is the perfect summertime treat. Just like this episode! (Okay look. We already explained the actual spoiler levels in the paragraph above. You know what you are getting into here!)OSMnotesIn other news, we have posted on our YouTube page The Music of Final Fantasy XIV Panel that Tobias and Anna hosted at MomoCon earlier this year! It was a fun time and a great panel. If you haven't watched it yet, you should! They did amazing.Music used in this episode are the various day and nighttime themes used in Dawntrail. While the official credits have not been published for these it's a safe bet they were all worked on in some fashion by Masayoshi Soken, and for the nighttime themes also arranged by Keiko. We also have YouTube Channels now! Hello Adventurers! Well, we are finally here! Kinda. Not quite. We are now just days, days before the latest Final Fantasy XIV expansion: Dawntrail! The servers are down, the patch is up for download, and Square Enix is already asking folks to not spoil stuff. So we're not gonna! Because this is all pre-Dawntrail stuff. The latest Letter from the Producer LIVE, our muses, our crackpot theories, all you need to keep that Dawntrail hype alive for a couple more days! And then we're in it! So go forth, listen, and enjoy.Spoiler Levels: Baked Eggplant! Now, you would think that Baked Eggplant wouldn't be all that spicy. You'd think. But this is a potent DPS-rich meal! So perhaps this isn't an episode spoiler filled per se, but we would recommend that you listen to this episode after you are current playing right before Dawntrail. Hello Adventurers! While last year was the 10 Year Anniversary of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, this year is our 10 Year Anniversary of playing Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn! So, we thought it would be nice to look back at those halcyon days of times long ago. Specifically, ten years ago. And to join us down this trip on memory lane, we are joined by the fellows Chille and Paul of Moogle Go Round Radio! MGR is a FFXIV podcast and stream where they, if you can believe it, talk about Final Fantasy XIV. They also just recently celebrated their own 8th Anniversary of existence! You can trust us when we say they were the perfect pair to chat with us about how TP used to be real and could hurt you.Spoiler Levels: La Noscean Toast! This is not an especially spoiler-filled episode, unless you have never played Final Fantasy XIV at all ever. In which case, have you heard about the free trial? And then come back to us after you finish up with ARR. Otherwise: Enjoy this delicious episode that has been soaked mixture of buffalo milk and eggs, and then fried in creamy butter. A specialty at the Drowning Wench in Limsa Lominsa!OSMnotesOnce again big thanks to Paul and Chille for chatting with us! And as you may have noticed, this is a Part 1! Because we had planned to talk about the expansions leading up to Dawntrail, but we only got as far as A Realm Reborn. Guess we'll have to schedule a Part 2 at some point! Hello Adventurers! Now that we are solidly in the true “Wait Till Dawntrail” part of our Final Fantasy XIV life cycle, we thought it was best to look back to what we just got to play through. And that is Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.55: Growing Light – Part 2! Not only did we get our true onramp storyline-wise leading into the upcoming expansion, but we also got a bunch of capstones to a lot of side content. From Hildebrand blasting off again, to seeing how our allied tribe quests sorted out, we are talking about it all. Yes, even the part about the cheese. Spoiler Levels: Very Hot, like Spicy Stellar Soup hot! This is a very hot and savory episode. We namedrop Endwalker Extremes from the get-go, we talk about stuff that happened in Stormblood, and how everything is leading into Dawntrail. This is for those that are either very current players, or really don't care about spoilers.OSMnotesHope you all enjoyed the episode! Hello Adventurers! Welcome to the Year of Our Yoshi-p Twenty Twenty Four. It's going to be an exciting year, this 2024! Not only it's the Lunar Year of the Dragon, it's ALSO the year of the next Final Fantasy XIV expansion: Dawntrail! And earlier in January we got a whole bunch of announcements made at the 2024 Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Tokyo, Japan. From the final CG teaser trailer, to Pictomancer, to hrothgals lion ladies, and even [REDACATED], if it was in the keynote, we are here to talk into microphones about them.Spoiler Levels: Hot! We may say it's medium to hot in the episode, but let's be honest. If you don't care all that much about spoilers, they are medium. If you do care, they are hot. Maybe not Blazin' Knock Your Butt Off... But you'll probably will want to wrap up the latest stuff in Endwalker before you hit play.OSMnotesThanks to Tobias for continuing to pitch hit edit the podcast for Anna, it has been a life saver. Since we almost just go in order of the keynote, we don't really have Time Cues this time. Just kick back, put the podcast on, and go grind some tomes. Tobis did do, however, is that he gave use what music is used in the episode. Which are The Carbuncle Chronicle Theme by Anna and DJ Inubito, "Battle on the Big Bridge" by The Black Mages, "Return to Oblivion (Scions & Sinners) by The Primals, "And Love You Shall Find" FFXIV Shadowbringers, and "Heartless (Chiptune)" by TESTS04.We also have YouTube Channels now! Hello Adventurers! As the year of our Yoshi-p 2023 comes to an end, we thought it would be good idea to talk about the patch that we've all been playing as the year closes out: 6.5 Growing Light - Part 1. And to join us in these talks, we had the excellent fortune to bring on Mippa to help us break it all down. (And if you need yet more Mippa, and you assuredly do, we actually had an interview with her not too long ago.) From the latest storyline reveals, to the shores of Aloalo Island, the depths of the Lunar Subterrane, and the hidden mysteries of Thalia, we leave no stone unturned as we dig into all the good stuff Final Fantasy XIV has to offer us right now.Spoiler Levels: Extremely High! It's the latest patch! All of it that's fit to print! We're talking about it! And then some! You are warned.OSMnotesThanks to Mippa for joining us on the podcast! It was a super fun conversation, and we can't wait to have her on again. And if you want to follow more of Mippa's adventures in Eorzea and beyond, don't forget to check out her Twitter and Tumblr! In this special episode we polish the dust off our first chat on "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle" from 2017 and reintroduce the story just in time for the holidays! As the only Holmes story set firmly within the Christmas season, "Carbuncle" occupies a special place in the hearts of many readers. Published in the January 1892 edition of The Strand, it offers readers a fine mix of intrigue, mishap and fireside fuzzies.
Hello Adventurers! The next Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Dawntrail, is arriving next year but this past October during the 2023 London FanFest we got yet more details about it. And perhaps the biggest news (that's not the new Viper job) was the announcement of the next alliance raid series being in collaboration with Final Fantasy XI. You know, the other Final Fantasy MMO! We need a FFXI expert. Someone who has been in the trenches, really seen some stuff. So, to talk about this we recruited a longtime friend of both The Carbuncle Chronicle and the OSMcast!, Cevian, who was more than up to the task to tell us all about it.OSMnotesOnce again, we want to thank Tobias for stepping up and editing the episode. And did you know that his other FFXIV x One Piece podcast released an episode this week as well. Well, you do now! It's actually much heavier on the One Piece this time, so one might think of our episode doing it's due diligence to make sure the FFXIV side is properly represented. And thanks once again to Cevian for making sure that the FFXI side was also properly represented! In fact while we were talking, Cevian kept throw us some FFXI pictures to give us some visual references. And now, you can have them too:Also, Tobias did Time Cues:00:00:00: The Basil Addendum00:01:55: Introductions and What's Been Going On Lately00:14:19: 2023 London FanFest Keynote Discussion01:03:59: Echoes of Vana'diel Discussion with Cevian01:24:18: Final Keynote ThoughtsHe even went ahead and listed the music used in the episode. Hello Adventures! With the advent of Dawntrail (the new expansion) on the horizon, and the current post patch cycle winding down, we thought it would be a nice time to talk about one of the new things Endwalker (the current expansion) introduced into Final Fantasy XIV: The Variant and the Criterion Dungeons. These are brand new types of battle-style content that kind does their own thing, and they're pretty dang fun! And you can get cool stuff for doing them! But since they are optional things, maybe you haven't done them yet? If not, let us take this chance to talk to you about why we think you should. And if you have already tried them out uh, well… listen to us anyway! You're already here, why stop now. Spoiler Levels: Pretty Low! Ignoring that you kinda have to have cleared the main chunk of Endwalker just to get to the post-patches where these dungeons show up, we don't really delve too deep into any spoilers talking about them.OSMnotesHave you tried the new Variant dungeons? Did you dip a toe into Criterion to see if it's as hard (or as easy!?) as you thought it'd be? Were we the ones that finally convinced you to take the plunge, or were you already on board with the idea? Let us know in the Discord! Hello Adventurers! So in our previous episode we talked about the big announcement from the 2023 NA FFXIV FanFest in Las Vegas: The latest FFXIV expansion, Dawntrail. But this episode is about everything else that happened at FanFest! The highs, the lows, the events, the lines. All the fun parts, and some of the not so fun parts. The terrible, terrible heat. Speaking of things that are hot off the presses, we also talk about The Rising and the latest Moogle Tomestone events. It's a grand ole time!Spoiler Levels: Pretty Low! Since we already talked about Dawntrail, we kept the spoiler talk to as low as we could. This is about the event of FanFest itself. I guess if you don't want spoilers as to what might happen at the EU & JP FanFest? But honestly, they are gonna be pretty different anyway.OSMnotesSome things! Those new Carbuncle Chronicle T-shirts! And while a few of us did just get back from the 2023 NA FanFest in Las Vegas a couple of weeks back, even now only the thoughts of new level caps, two dyes, and taco cats arw what keep us going. And, or some of us, the thoughts of wearing glasses and a summoner's horn at the same time. All of that is to say, we are very excited about the new Final Fanatsy XIV 7.0 Expansion: Dawntrail! Whether you're a monarchist or not, you have to admit that Elizabeth Regina II – Lilibet et as Prince Phillip used to call her - was a magnificent monarch and Uk's longest reigning monarch. 1, 2 When her father George VI died in February 1952, Elizabeth—then 25 years old—became queen regnant of seven independent Commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon (known today as Sri Lanka), as well as Head of the Commonwealth. During her reign, she had 15 Prime Ministers, from Winston Churchill to Liz Truss. King Charles III has a passion for gardening, plants and green spaces and was way ahead of his time with his care for the environment, a worry he expressed in his 1970 speech in which he warns about plastic, pollution and the dangers of climate change. He also loves sustainable architecture and built an eco-town called Pundbury on the outskirts of Dorchester, in Dorset. He enjoys organic farming and products, which he has been growing since before the word “organic” became fashionable. 3, 4, 5 1. Anneta Konstantindes. From Plum Creek With Love: A Little House on the Prairie Podcast
The day starts just like any other in Walnut Grove until the residents of the town are delivered the news that a group of Native Americans are nearby. They are traveling through and their Chief, Long Elk, has been struck with an affliction that's rendered him mute and immobile. While Doc Baker attends to the ailing man, a majority of the town residents see this as an opportunity to be hostile towards the caravan and put an end to their travel. However, anticipating this the tribe moves on while at the same time Long Elk, his son Little Crow and family are taken to the Ingallas Prairie Air BnB to buy some time to help with Long Elk's recovery. It's not too long however before word gets out about who is hiding at the Ingallas' and it becomes a race to return Long Elk and family to his tribe while being pursued by the angry men of Walnut Grove. What valuable lesson does Laura learn from this experience? Will Doc Baker get to show off more of his medical expertise? Do people still use the word Carbuncle?

Tonight, we'll read a short story titled “The Great Carbuncle” written by Nathaniel Hawthorne and published in 1835.Set in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, a band of eight adventurers gathers together. They are each on a personal quest for the Great Carbuncle, a brilliant gem legendary in its elusiveness. Hawthorne explores the importance of honesty, simplicity, and selflessness in "The Great Carbuncle." These positive characteristics are most often demonstrated by the newlywed couple during the search for the Carbuncle; they sacrifice personal gain, alter their goals, and pivot their actions to assist others for the good of the group.— read by N — Listen Ad-Free on Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
This week Liz and Alrik welcome writer/director T. Arthur Cottam on the show to talk about the re-release of his feature film Carbuncle which is now out on Amazon Prime, Plex and Vimeo on Demand. T. talks to us about finding success with short films and how that lead to making Carbuncle for four thousand dollars which was completely funded from film festival prize money. We also talk about his latest feature film One Hour Outcall, how that project came together and how T. balances making his art and paying the bills. This is really great conversation about how you can make a life for yourself as an artist and how there is no one way to make that happen. We also have filmmaker and listener Earl Martin on Get Shorty to talk about his short film LISTEN and Liz and Alrik read a listener letter from a friend of the show!
