APHA is the largest professional organization of public health professionals in the United States.Dr. Benjamin is known as one of the nation's most influential physician leaders because he speaks passionately and eloquently about the health issues having the most impact on our nation today. From his firsthand experience as a physician, he knows what happens when preventive care is not available and when the healthy choice is not the easy choice. As executive director of APHA since 2002, he is leading the Association's push to make America the healthiest nation.Dr. Benjamin came to APHA from his position as secretary of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Dr. Benjamin became secretary of health in Maryland in April 1999, following four years as its deputy secretary for public health services. As secretary, Benjamin oversaw the expansion and improvement of the state's Medicaid program. Dr. Benjamin is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology and the University of Illinois College of Medicine, is board-certified in internal medicine, a master of the American College of Physicians, a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, a fellow emeritus of the American College of Emergency Physicians, an honorary fellow of the Faculty of Public Health and an honorary fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health.An established administrator, author and orator, Dr. Benjamin started his medical career as a military physician in 1978 when he trained in internal medicine at the Brooke Army Medical Center. In 1981, he was assigned to the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, where he managed a 72,000-patient visit ambulatory care service as chief of the Acute Illness Clinic and was faculty and an attending physician within the Department of Emergency Medicine. A few years later, Dr. Benjamin was reassigned to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where he served as chief of emergency medicine. After leaving the Army, Dr. Benjamin chaired the Department of Community Health and Ambulatory Care at the District of Columbia General Hospital. He was promoted to acting commissioner for public health for the District of Columbia and later directed one of the busiest ambulance services in the nation as interim director of the Emergency Ambulance Bureau of the District of Columbia Fire Department.At APHA, Dr. Benjamin also serves as publisher of the nonprofit's monthly publication, The Nation's Health, the association's official newspaper, and the American Journal of Public Health, the profession's premier scientific publication. He is the author of more than 200 scientific articles and book chapters. His recent book Public Health Under Siege: Improving Policy in Turbulent Times explores the impact of policy on our nation's health and offers specific actions to improve health and extend life expectancy. Following the footsteps of his father, grandfather, grandmother, aunt, and cousin, all distinguished nurses, Neil transitioned to nursing as a second career after a brief tenure as an elementary school teacher. Currently on the verge of completing his MSN in nurse education, he aspires to seamlessly integrate his dual passions. Apart from his unwavering dedication to nursing, Neil actively seeks serenity in nature alongside his canine companions. In his professional capacity, he fulfills the role of a med-surg nurse at the Moses Cone Health System in North Carolina.   Eric Torres, ADN, RN, CMSRN is a California native that has always dreamed of seeing the World, and when that didn't work out, he set his sights on nursing.  Eric is beyond excited to be joining the AMSN podcast and having a chance to share his stories and experiences of being a bedside medical-surgical nurse.   Maritess M. Quinto, DNP, RN, NPD-BC, CMSRN is a clinical educator currently leading a team of educators who is passionately helping healthcare colleagues, especially newly graduate nurses. She was born and raised in the Philippines and immigrated to the United States with her family in Florida. Her family of seven (three girls and two boys with her husband who is also a Registered Nurse) loves to travel, especially to Disney World. She loves to share her experiences about parenting, travelling, and, of course, nursing!   Sydney Wall, RN, BSN, CMSRN has been a med surg nurse for 5 years. After graduating from the University of Rhode Island in 2019, Sydney commissioned into the Navy and began her nursing career working on a cardiac/telemetry unit in Bethesda, Maryland.  Currently she is stationed overseas, providing care for service members and their families.  During her free time, she enjoys martial arts and traveling.

Since Keith's entire nursing career has been in the realm of ambulatory nursing, he is especially interested in promoting this frequently ignored area of nursing career opportunities. Andrea began her Naval career as a Nurse Corps Officer at the National Naval Medical Center (NNMC) Bethesda where she served as a staff nurse and subsequent Charge Nurse, Medical-Surgical Ward and Division Officer, Orthopedics Clinic from 1993 to 1998. In 1998, she transferred to Naval Medical Clinic Annapolis where she served as Assistant Department Head, Pediatrics and Specialty Clinics. Following this assignment, she assumed the duties as Division Officer, Family Practice Clinic and Detainee Screening Nurse, U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay, Cuba from 2001 to 2002. Ms. Petrovanie Greene retired in May 2023 after serving 30 years of honorable and faithful service as a Nurse Corps Officer, United States Navy.  Her last assignment she served as Special Assistant, Clinical Quality Management at the Naval Health Clinic Hawaii where she led the command to achieving an unprecedented “zero” clinical findings during the triennial Joint Commission survey. A native of Trinidad and Tobago, she enlisted in the Navy through the Bachelor Degree Completion Program in 1991. In 1993 she graduated from Wagner College, Staten Island, New York with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy.  Andrea is a member of the National Association for Healthcare Quality, AMSUS The Society of Federal Health Professionals, American Academy of Healthcare Executives, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and the National Naval Officers Association Life member. Her personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and other personal and service ribbons. Andrea is married to Darryl Green who is a Health Care Administrator and Captain in the US Navy. Since then, he has practiced as a retail pharmacist, outpatient clinical pharmacist, and inpatient clinical pharmacist. His current practice is as an ambulatory care clinical pharmacy specialist, where he applies his passion for lifestyle interventions in the management of chronic disease. He is the author of the book Permission to Care- Building a Healthcare Culture that Thrives in Chaos. In addition to his career as a pharmacist, Cory is also an accomplished improv comedian, having started on his comedy journey in 2013. Since then, Cory has coached, taught, and performed improv for thousands of people. Today, Cory travels around the country speaking and teaching other healthcare professionals how to apply the valuable skills of improv comedy to create a more adaptable, empathetic, and humanizing healthcare experience.
