On our latest PowerShell podcast, we chatted with first-time PSConfEU speaker and all-around cool guy Emrys MacInally. He filled us in on his conference experience and mentorship program insights. We dove into the techie stuff – getting the 411 on Windows Docker containers and using Chocolatey in offline deployments. We even picked Emrys's brain on the journey that led him to where he is today and his approach to brewing beer. We look forward to seeing what Emrys does next! Emrys has been having fun with PowerShell since 2007 and loves to deploy software. Emrys MacInally has worked in the IT industry for over 18 years, focusing primarily on the delivery of back-end services on Windows. Since the release of PowerShell 2, PowerShell has become his primary automation tool. His love for PowerShell has only grown since then. On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are begging with everything we've got for an official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot, range model air rifle, with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time. Sometimes we have to get real on this podcast. It's really up for debate whether this episode qualifies considering I started it with a musical number from the 1950s. Anywho, lately I've felt like there's been such a hive-mind opinion that social media is this evil creature that is taking over the world and that there aren't actual people behind it causing the problems that just happen to display on social media. There's a yin-and-yang to the digital world and cackling maniacally from its dark tower (not the Stephen King series, his endings tend to leave a lot to be desired), and too often I think people ignore the benefits of our connected digital world, and only seem to be focused on the negative and trying to eradicate it. Maybe it's a good thing to be cautious and skeptical, but it doesn't mean the good-side doesn't exist, and that we can't have hope to improve it even more. Plus, social media allowed us to take polls on some of the food fights in E75, so Laura came back on the pod to settle those in the outro this week. If we're doing an episode on social media I'm damn well plugging my channel without needing a joke to hide behind. Oh God, does this Meta statement count as a joke? Does me capitalizing the "M" in meta a.k.a. the Facebook parent company count as a reference that could make someone blow air out of the nose in place of a laugh, which could potentially constitute this as a tiny little joke? If I said baby joke there, would you have imagined a family of jokes that has a child, potentially in a stroller with a boxing glove on it to represent the punch line? Now I want to go watch Rocky 3. I'm sure you're familiar with package managers for your OS even if you don't use them. On macOS we have Homebrew, Chocolatey on Windows, and apt, yum, and others on Linux. But if you want to install Python applications, you typically have to fallback to managing them with pip. Maybe you install them for your account with the --user flag. But with pipx you get a clean, isolated install for every Python application that you use. And if you distribute Python apps, pipx is a definitely worth considering as a channel. Shay https://youtu.be/ZYWSqiu3dSY From the artist: Hello beautiful people! Here is my brand new music video “Chocolate”. The music video was filmed in a hotel room in Washington D.C. just days before the 2020 Corona Virus Lockdown. The room had beautiful dark red, brown and maroon dark textures, very similar to the vibe of the song and fitting perfectly with the Chocolatey vibe I was going for. https://youtu.be/t7Dhmmi68-0 From the artist: Hello world! Here is a brand new music video for my new song "Someone Else's Arms". This music video was filmed in Los Angeles at the Coast of San Pedro. While I wrote and produced this song, I could only put it in feelings as a "sense of drowning", this imagery then led the entire production, from the mix to how the artwork was made and what's more the song's abbreviated version is SEA. This location was perfect to capture my vision. When we got there, we decided to keep things relatively simple given how personal this song it to me and taking in account our relatively small set up. This song means the absolute world to me, read more about it on Rolling Stone, India. Hey, y'all. Shay here. On air indie. Welcome & enjoy. Episode 43. First, music history trivia for May 10th. They awarded the Ivor Novello Award in 1970 to David Bowie. It was for Best Original Song “Space Oddity”. He performed the song that night, accompanied by the Les Reed Orchestra. The event went live via satellite to venues in America, France, Spain, Australia, Holland and Venezuela. Bowie would later revisit his Major Tom character in the songs “Ashes to Ashes”, ‘Hallo Spaceboy”, and “Blackstar”. Joining our show today is singer-songwriter and producer Rivita. She lives in the United States, Los Angeles. We chat about her training and education. It spans from New York, Spain and London, United Kingdom. Rivita also gets real about life as an artist living in Los Angeles and New York City. You will enjoy the show. Tracks played tonight: "Someone Else's Arms", "Chocolate" and "Lonely With Someone"https://youtu.be/ZYWSqiu3dSY From the artist: Hello beautiful people! Facebook Twitter Youtube Spotify Soundcloud Instagram Link Previous Next

Time for some chocolatey goodness! After seven years, Rob Reynolds is back chatting with Carl and Richard about the Windows application package manager that you want to use! Since the last show in 2013, Chocolatey has grown up, become a commercial product with a great open source free version. And there's a GUI - you can help your non-technical friends and family automate application installation and updates! But more typically, you use Chocolatey to build out your development environments in an automated way. Have you automated your deployment infrastructure? Carl and Richard talk to Matt Wrock about his tool chain for doing deployments. The raft of tools is long, but largely familiar: NuGet, Chocolatey, Boxstarter, Vagrant. Matt continues on with Atlas, Packer and Boxcutter to put together a completely automated process to build new VMs with services, tools and your software all pre-configured and ready to go. More good thinking about getting your configuration down as code!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/net-rocks/donations
While at NDC, Carl and Richard chat with Justin James about his deployment tool chain of NuGet, Chocolatey, Boxstarter and Vagrant. Each of these tools builds on the other, starting at the lowest level with specific libraries, working up through package managers, configuring operating systems, even provisioning cloud services. Justin talks about using the tools to get you to a configuration-as-code scenario, making installation not only reliable, but fast. There are lots of different ways to get to a reliable and efficient deployment solution - here's another one!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/net-rocks/donations
