He also spent two seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the role of player development coordinator. Prior to these positions, he was part of the coaching staff for the Cleveland Charge in the NBA G-League for three seasons from 2016 to 2019, concluding his tenure there as the associate head coach.Jones started his coaching career in The Netherlands, working with Den Bosch Eiffel Towers for three years as an assistant coach before taking over as head coach of Den Bosch SPM Shoeters (club changed names). With SPM Shoeters, he led his team to the Dutch Basketball League and NBB Cup crowns in 2014-15 and Dutch Basketball Supercup title in 2015-16. He also spent his final three years in the Netherlands as the associate head coach with the Dutch Men's National Team.Prior to coaching, Jones played 10 seasons in Europe, including playing in the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Spain and Cyprus. During his time playing, he won two titles with Den Bosch Eiffel Towers and appeared in multiple All-Star games.

Read more about this at mdjonline.com     Story 2: redetermination   Since the expiration of the federal public health emergency in April, nearly 100,000 Georgians have lost their Medicaid coverage, according to the state Department of Community Health (DCH). As part of the year-long process of reassessing eligibility for Medicaid recipients, Georgia began processing renewal applications for over 216,000 individuals in June. Out of these, 64,423 were renewed, while 95,578 lost their coverage. The majority of those who lost coverage were terminated due to procedural reasons, with the DCH lacking the necessary information to determine eligibility. Approximately 57,000 renewal applications are still pending. The DCH aims to complete the redetermination process for all Medicaid enrollees in Georgia by May 2024.   Story 3: s cobb   Cobb County is currently overseeing a $30 million road improvement project on South Cobb Drive in Smyrna. The project aims to enhance non-vehicular movement along the corridor, including pedestrian paths and roadways. Plans include raised medians, bus stops, and multi-use paths for pedestrians and cyclists. The Cobb Board of Commissioners approved an agreement allowing Smyrna to pursue federal funding for the project. Smyrna has already allocated $17 million from its special-purpose local-option sales tax and the Atlanta Regional Commission. Smyrna will contribute $17.5 million in local funding, with oversight from Cobb County, until Smyrna receives certification from the Georgia Department of Transportation to sponsor the project. The city plans to seek citizen input and start construction in 2025 or 2026.   we'll be right back   Break:   ESOG - Dayco – Elon   STORY 4: race   John Cristadoro, a Republican candidate for Cobb Board of Education Post 5, has reported raising nearly $30,000 in campaign contributions. He received about $18,000 in contributions and loaned himself $10,000 through June 30. Cristadoro is competing for the seat currently held by Republican David Banks, who has not yet announced his reelection bid. Democrat Laura Judge, a gun safety activist and leader of the watchdog group Watching the Funds - Cobb, is also running in the race and reported $9,255 in campaign contributions. The primary is scheduled for May 21, 2024, and the general election for November 5, 2024.     STORY 5: library   The Cobb Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a grant application for the Cobb County Public Library to fund a 5,000-square-foot expansion of the South Cobb Regional Library. The grant, totaling $2 million, would supplement the $1.2 million already committed by the county for the expansion. The grant is from the Board of Regents of Georgia Public Library Services. The planned upgrades include a larger community room with updated audiovisual equipment, a computer lab, a bigger caregiver/children's room focused on early childhood literacy, and an expanded teen space. The expansion aims to improve services and cater to the library's growing community needs.   Story 6: 340k   Cobb County Republican commissioners JoAnn Birrell and Keli Gambrill expressed their opposition to a study of procurement disparities in the county at a recent commission meeting. They disagreed with allocating $342,000 to consultant Griffin & Strong for examining purchasing practices. While they voted to approve the consent agenda, both commissioners voiced their opposition. Commissioner Birrell argued that the county could review its purchasing office without a consultant's assistance, citing previous reports on awarded contracts. Commissioner Gambrill added that small businesses often lack the resources to contract with the county and believed that existing data should already provide insight into the diversity of contracts....………we're back, in a moment   Break:   Drake- Ing 7- UMC 30   Story 7: hank   The Atlanta Braves will observe Hank Aaron Week from July 25-30 to honor the life and legacy of the legendary player. The week will feature community-building initiatives and culminate in celebrations at Truist Park when the Braves face the Milwaukee Brewers on July 28. The Hank Aaron Invitational showcase game, which includes the top 200 high school-aged players from across the US, will take place on July 30. Selected players will participate based on their performance during the preceding week at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Florida. The Braves will also commemorate Aaron's impact as a player, executive, and entrepreneur during their series against the Brewers, with proceeds from the Atlanta Braves Foundation's 50/50 Raffle supporting the Henry Louis Aaron Fund to promote diversity in baseball.   Story 8: lassiter   Angela Brunner, the coach of the Lassiter girls lacrosse team, has been named the 2023 Cobb County Girls Lacrosse Coach of the Year. In her 10th year as coach, Brunner led the team to an 11-8 record, the state quarterfinals, and an Area 2 championship. She emphasizes building a culture of excellence, starting with the youth program and involving high school players as coaches. The team was led by seniors Caitlin Gavin and Ava Menna, who will continue their lacrosse careers in college. Despite their departure, the team has promising players like freshman Sophia Hortman and sophomore Lacey Scherholz. Brunner also serves as the director of the Atlanta Storm Lacrosse Club, fostering a sense of rivalry and respect among players from various teams in the area   Story 9: cooper   Sharife Cooper, the former Auburn basketball player, showcased his skills during the NBA Summer League, leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 101-97 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Cooper scored 27 points, shooting 8-of-12 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. Despite not having a regular spot on an NBA roster yet, Cooper remains focused on his performance and is grateful for the opportunities he has been given. After playing with the Atlanta Hawks' G League affiliate, Cooper had a successful season with the Cleveland Charge, averaging 22.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 6.9 assists, and making the All-G League second team. NBA – Pistons’ Cunningham to have season-ending surgery Detroit guard Cade Cunningham is planning to have season-ending surgery to repair his left shin, a person with knowledge of the situation said. The No. 1 pick in the 2021 draft is expected to be ready for the start of training camp next season, said the person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither Cunningham nor the team announced the plans for surgery publicly. ESPN first reported that Cunningham would be having the season-ending procedure. NBA – National Basketball Association Last Night Miami Heat 87, Indiana Pacers 82 Heat 87, Pacers 82 – Butler’s late flurry helps Heat put away Pacers 87-82 Bam Adebayo had 22 points and 17 rebounds, and Jimmy Butler scored seven straight points in the closing minutes to help the Miami Heat hold off the Indiana Pacers 87-82. The Heat had lost three of their previous four. Butler finished with 20 points. Buddy Hield led the Pacers with 19 points in a rough-and-tumble game in which baskets came at a premium. Butler finally cranked it up late, helping the Heat turn a 77-73 contest into an 84-75 edge. Indiana never got closer than four. NFL – National Football League – Week 14 Last Night New England Patriots 27, Arizona Cardinals 13 Patriots 27, Cardinals 13 – Patriots rally for 27-13 win over Cardinals, Murray hurt Mac Jones threw for 235 yards, Raekwon McMillan had a crucial fumble return for a touchdown and the New England Patriots earned a 27-13 win on Monday night over the Arizona Cardinals, who lost starting quarterback Kyler Murray in the first quarter to a potentially serious knee injury. New England trailed 13-10 at the break but tied the game at 13-all early in the third quarter after a short field goal. The Patriots got their game-changing play and a 20-13 lead later in the third when McMillan scooped up a fumble and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown. Murray was hurt on the third play of the game, immediately changing the complexion of the evening. NFL – Bears get 2 rookie defensive starters back to face Eagles The Chicago Bears will have defensive backs Kyler Gordon and Jaquan Brisker back in the starting lineup for the first time since Nov. 20 following concussions as they try to break a six-game losing streak when they face the Philadelphia Eagles. The Bears will need as many players healthy heading into their final four games against the Eagles, Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings. They’ve made progress addressing problems on defense and at pass blocking but quarterback Justin Fields still needs to prove he can win a game at the end after six straight failed attempts to win or tie on their final possessions. NHL – National Hockey League Tonight Carolina Hurricanes at Detroit Red Wings, 7:00 p.m. Washington Capitals at Chicago Blackhawks, 9:00 p.m. NCAAFB – Mississippi State’s Mike Leach listed in critical condition Mississippi State football coach Mike Leach is listed in critical condition at a hospital in Jackson. The update came one day after what the university called “a personal health issue” at his home in Starkville forced him to be airlifted to Jackson. A spokesman at the University of Mississippi Medical Center says Leach is listed in critical condition. Other details are not known, but according to ESPN, Leach suffered a “massive heart attack.” Leach is in his third season at Mississippi State, with a 19-17 record. He is widely recognized for his innovative Air Raid offense. NCAAFB – Navy AD blunt about expectations for program, next coach Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk says the football program has two main goals. One is to win the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy over Army and Air Force. The other is to go to a bowl. Gladchuk spoke to reporters a day after the academy announced coach Ken Niumatalolo was out after 15 seasons. Niumatalolo is the program’s winningest coach, but he hasn’t been to a bowl or won the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy since 2019. Gladchuk indicated the team would likely keep running the triple option with whoever the new coach is. NCAAMBKB – Purdue moves to No. 1, ‘Bama cracks top 5 Purdue has climbed to No. 1 in men’s basketball AP Top 25 for the second straight season. The Boilermakers moved up three spots in this week’s poll. Virginia moved up to No. 2, with Connecticut, Alabama and Houston rounding out the top five. The Crimson Tide have their second top-five ranking in three seasons after becoming the second team to beat two No. 1 teams in the same season. Alabama knocked off Houston last week after beating North Carolina earlier in the season. NCAAWBKB – South Carolina tops women’s AP Top 25, Kansas has cracked The Associated Press women’s basketball poll for the first time in nearly 10 years. The 22nd-ranked Jayhawks routed then 12th-ranked Arizona by 27 points on the road last week. The top five teams remained the same with No. 1 South Carolina followed by Stanford, Ohio State, Indiana and Notre Dame. Virginia Tech was sixth and will host Notre Dame on Sunday. Fellow ACC schools North Carolina and N.C. State were seventh and eighth. UConn fell three spots to ninth after losing at Maryland. UCLA moved up three places to 10th. NCAASOC – Syracuse wins first men’s soccer title, beats Indiana Syracuse goalkeeper Russell Shealy stopped two shots in an eight-round shootout and Amferny Sinclair scored the game-winner as No. 3 seed Syracuse beat 13th-seeded Indiana 7-6 in a shootout to win the NCAA College Cup championship for the first time in program history. It was the longest penalty shootout in the history of the College Cup. Indiana tied it at 2-all in the 80th minute before the title game went to overtime for the sixth time in nine years. After two scoreless 10-minute overtime sessions, each goalkeeper had a diving save in the second round before the next 10 players scored. Syracuse was playing in its first men’s soccer title match after setting a program record in the semifinals with its 18th win. NCAASWM – High court won’t hear Title IX case involving MSU The Supreme Court says it won’t take the plunge into a dispute over Michigan State University’s decision to end its swimming-and-diving teams, a decision female athletes sued over. The case was one of many the high court rejected Monday. As is typical, the justices didn’t comment in turning away the case. The dispute the justices rejected stems from MSU’s decision to end its men’s and women’s swimming-and-diving teams after the 2021 season. The school cited cost as the reason, saying its swimming and diving facilities needed millions in upgrades. School officials have said they’re discussing reinstating the swimming-and-diving program. WNBA – Nneka Ogwumike elected to 3rd term as WNBA union president Nneka Ogwumike will serve a third term as president of the WNBA Players Association after being re-elected over the weekend. The Los Angeles Sparks star has served as WNBPA President since 2016, first winning reelection in 2019. She was instrumental in negotiating for the ground-breaking 2020 collective bargaining agreement that saw major pay increases and guarantees of full salaries of players on maternity leave. The contract, which runs through 2027, also provided enhanced family benefits, travel standards and other health and wellness improvements. Twelve high school juniors or seniors from states with Pac-12 programs have verbally committed to play football at one of the Big Ten’s 14 current member schools. Only four made their decisions after the Big Ten’s June 30 announcement that USC and UCLA would join the league in 2024. NCAAFB – University of Virginia mourns for campus shooting victims The University of Virginia community is mourning as new details emerge about both the three football players killed in a campus shooting this week and the criminal charges the suspect faces. Authorities have said university student Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. joined a group of about two dozen others who traveled by bus Sunday to Washington for a field trip. The Australian Broadcasting Corp. says it has confirmed newspaper reports that the immigration minister is putting aside Djokovic’s potential three-year exclusion period from Australia. Djokovic is a 35-year-old from Serbia who had faced that lengthy ban because he is a foreign citizen whose visa was revoked. The Australian Border Force previously said an exclusion period could be waived under certain circumstances. Immigration Minister Andrew Giles has declined to comment on privacy. FIFA – World Cup – Gambling group estimates US will bet $1.8B on World Cup Americans will bet $1.8 billion on the World Cup this year, according to the casino industry’s national trade group. The American Gaming Association estimates that 20.5 million American adults plan to bet on the biggest soccer tournament in the world, legally or otherwise. The survey is the organization’s first for World Cup betting. This World Cup is the first to be held while legal sports betting is widespread in America.
