Washington State documents obtained by The Center Square reveal what looks like a coordinated fraud scheme: childcare providers conspiring with parents to collect taxpayer-funded DSHS subsidies for children who were never brought to care. In case after case, parents signed kids in anyway — and providers reportedly kicked back 30% of their payments to keep the arrangement running.Attorney General Nick Brown is urging anyone with information to report fraud to the state, but Sean argues an inside investigation from the same apparatus that missed this for years won't cut it. An outside investigator — from outside Washington entirely — is needed. The parallels to Minnesota's "Feeding Our Future" case ($250 million stolen, Amy Bach sentenced to 42 years) are impossible to ignore. Fraud doesn't see state lines.Meanwhile, Katie Wilson's office says no fraud investigation was directed in her first week on the job, and SEIU 925's Aaron Hake sent lawmakers a letter urging them to rein in the investigative reporters covering the story. Cameras that showed up at a local daycare found bullet holes in the wall and zero children inside. This story isn't going away — Sean thinks it unravels on a national scale right here in Washington State. Today's Poll Question at Smerconish.com: Should stay-at-home parents get the same federal child care aid as parents who use daycare? Michael examines a proposal that could expand federal child care assistance to families in which one parent works while the other stays home with the kids. He traces the idea to a 2021 Wall Street Journal essay co-authored by J.D. Vance and explores the arguments over daycare, parental choice, child development, and whether public policy should financially support at-home caregiving. With the proposal now drawing attention—and disagreement—among CONSERVATIVES, Michael asks whether federal child care dollars should follow families regardless of how they choose to care for their children. A Post Millennial reporter visited Somali-run home daycares across Seattle after a report surfaced that dozens of them collected $5 million in taxpayer-funded childcare subsidies — many with few or no children inside. Sean breaks down her 11-minute street-level investigation and maps the addresses in real time, exposing a pattern that's become disturbingly routine. From Abu Family Daycare — pulling in what amounts to tens of thousands a month — to a dense cluster in the High Point neighborhood, the scenes are identical: doors shut, residents hostile, no sign of children. Investigators were turned away at every stop, including what Sean identifies as a "Little Mogadishu" block in West Seattle where the all-cash childcare operation runs openly with zero accountability from the city.By the time the video wraps, the total fraud tally reaches $5.3 million uncovered. Sean calls directly on Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson to lead a full investigation — arguing that this level of concentrated fraud demands mayoral action, not silence. What can a dog daycare owner learn from someone enriching a polar bear, giraffe or chimpanzee? Are your enrichment activities actually designed to encourage natural behaviours… or are you just giving dogs something different to do? And could looking outside the pet care industry completely change the way you think about enrichment? In this episode, I'm giving you a sneak peek inside the upcoming Pet Care Enrichment Summit, including highlights from one of my favourite sessions from last year's event: our Zookeepers Roundtable. One of the things we've always done differently with the Enrichment Summit is deliberately bring in experts from outside traditional pet care. Because if you want to get better at enrichment, there are few better people to learn from than professionals whose entire job involves creating stimulating environments and experiences for animals in captivity. You'll hear fascinating examples involving servals, polar bears, Arctic foxes, parrots and giraffes, and discover why great enrichment isn't about randomly chucking an activity into an enclosure and hoping the animal enjoys it. It starts with the animal, the behaviours you want to encourage and the experience you're trying to create. In this episode, you'll discover: Why Enrichment Should Be Goal-Based – How zookeepers start with natural behaviours rather than simply dreaming up activities. What Happens When Enrichment Doesn't Work – Why an animal completely ignoring your intended outcome doesn't necessarily mean the activity failed. The Importance of Species-Specific Enrichment – What polar bears, parrots and giraffes teach us about designing experiences around the animal in front of you. Why "Use It or Lose It" Matters – How animals need opportunities to practise natural behaviours and develop important physical and mental skills. How the Environment Becomes Enrichment – Why food, movement, scent, other animals and even unexpected changes can all create valuable experiences. I also preview this year's Pet Care Enrichment Summit seminars, where we have 12 presentations across six days, including dog trainer and daycare owner roundtables, breed-specific enrichment, scent work, behavioural workflows and another brilliant line-up of zoo professionals. Remember, this years enrichment summit brings you more learning opportunities than ever with 12 sessions over 6 years. In this episode of the 47 Morning Update w Ben Ferguson, Ben examines the Southern California daycare fraud case, the Justice Department's broader enforcement efforts, and what these investigations reveal about alleged abuse of taxpayer-funded programs. He discusses recent actions involving pandemic loan fraud, health care fraud prosecutions, efforts to recover lost funds, and the administration's stated goal of making fraud enforcement a government-wide priority. A federal crackdown in Southern California has led to charges against 12 individuals accused of fraudulently collecting more than $10 million in taxpayer-funded child care subsidies. Federal prosecutors allege that licensed home daycare operators submitted false attendance records, claimed payments for services never provided, and collected funds intended to help low-income families access child care. The case highlights a broader push by the Trump administration and the Department of Justice to target fraud across multiple government programs, from child care subsidies to pandemic-era relief loans and health care reimbursements. Investigators say they used surveillance, travel records, bank data, and other evidence to test whether taxpayer-funded services were actually being delivered. What happens when Medicare payment policy makes it harder for physicians to provide all the care a patient needs in a single visit? More than 80% of ENTs say a proposed CMS rule could force them to cut Medicare services or stop accepting Medicare entirely. AAO-HNS President Dr. Gene Brown joins CEO Dr. Rahul Shah to discuss the proposed CMS payment reduction for certain same-day services and physicians' concerns about patients' access to comprehensive, coordinated care. Dr. Brown shares real patient stories showing why same-day care matters—particularly for Medicare beneficiaries who may need multiple medically necessary services in one visit. So many of us have been struck down with winter illnesses but if you're a parent to toddlers, it might feel like you're more nurse than parent right now. Which got us thinking about early child daycare .. and whether the endless bugs that often come from there help or hinder kids .. does being exposed to more germs build immunity ahead of school or is that an urban myth parents cling to? Peter McIntyre is a professor in the University of Otago's Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, he's with Jesse for some myth busting.
