In this episode, we break down picky eating. If you're a parent, chances are you've dealt with picky eating at some point. Picky eating is often times is nothing to be alarmed with. Kids will decide they no longer like a food they previously liked. As long as there are plenty of other foods they'll eat, this is not concerning. School-aged children can change their food interests based on who they spend time with at school. In this episode, Lily and Nick share their son's current eating habits and food preferences. They also want to know when they should be concerned. The division of responsibility breaks down the role of the parent or caregiver in eating and the role of the child. The parent controls what, when and where. What food is being offered, when it will be given and where (ie. home, picnic, restaurant) The child controls what they'll eat and how much. Forcing and rewarding children is not recommended. Grief and Loss isn't often associated with "parenting", unless its in relation to the death of a child. But just as much as there is to gain when becoming a first time parent, there is also lot of loss with the birth of a first child. But these conversations aren't always had among Christians. The dark clouds of parenting aren't always talked about and this leaves many new parents to weather the storms of change and the unknown on their own. I hope this episode gives you a sense of community in your suffering and in your loss. I hope that you realise that trying your best- is the best you can do.

In this episode we talk with Samantha Reisz, EBB Childbirth Class graduate about her experiences taking the class and preparing for a waterbirth in a hospital with her “Golden Ticket” birth team, who were skilled and prepared to manage a placental cord avulsion also known as cord snapping. Samantha Reisz, she/her, is a Scholarly Assistant Professor of Human Development at Washington State University in Vancouver, Washington, just outside of the Portland, Oregon area. She completed her bachelor's in Psychology and master's in Infant Mental Health from Mills College in Oakland, California when she first began studying childbirth. Samantha then earned her PhD in Human Development and Family Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied infant parent relationships and the transition to parenthood. Samantha is a passionate scholar and educator. After years of studying these topics academically, she finally was able to live her own research with the birth of her first child. Samantha lives in Vancouver, Washington with her baby, partner, and two dogs. Samantha shares how she prepared to give birth for the first time with the use of a doula who recommended the EBB Childbirth Course. Samantha and her partner planned for a waterbirth in a hospital with an OBGYN attending the birth. After experiencing the beautiful waterbirth she had desired, complications arose in the 3rd stage with a placental cord avulsion. Her “Golden Ticket Birth Team” was skilled and prepared to support her through this experience. Content & Trigger warning: complications in the third stage of labor, active management of the third phase, umbilical cord snapping or avulsion, excessive blood loss Resources: Find out more about Samantha's work and research here.
