In Episode #171 of The XS Noize Podcast, host Mark Millar is delighted to engage in a captivating conversation with Peter Hooton and Keith Mullin from The Farm. After a triumphant series of festival appearances and the debut of fresh tunes during the summer of 2017, The Farm reunited, igniting a resurgence in their recording endeavours. Although their plans for the digital release of the Feel The Love EP across all streaming platforms were initially set, unforeseen circumstances, including illness and the onset of the pandemic, caused an unexpected delay. However, during the confines of lockdown, the band persisted in their creative pursuits, culminating in the recent release of a compelling series of tracks via Ditto Music. One such track, Let The Music (Take Control), emerges as a vibrant fusion of electronic elements, drawing inspiration from the innovative sounds of Kraftwerk and invigorated by dynamic guitar riffs. A pivotal moment in the genesis of this track occurred during a live performance, coupled with a serendipitous encounter with the legendary guitarist, composer, and producer Nile Rodgers, whose influence left an indelible mark on the song's evolution. The band's creative journey continues unabated, with a promise of new releases slated throughout the course of 2024. In this interview, Peter Hooton and Keith Mullin offer insights into the genesis of their latest songs and provide a tantalizing glimpse into their forthcoming album. Furthermore, they delve into the rich tapestry of The Farm's back catalogue, exploring their favourite songs, their Liverpool Music Icons Tour and much more. Musician Tim Arnold and science writer Eric Wargo discuss the themes of Wargo's forthcoming book about 'Creativity, Inspiration and Precognition'. This discussion is in context of one of the artworks from Arnold's new album and film 'Super Connected'. The artwork foresaw Apple's Vision Pro, 5 years before Apple announced it. In 2018, Arnold conceived a fictional wearable headset named "iHead" for the story of his album 'Super Connected'. A model of the "iHead" was made between the Winter of 2018 and Spring 2019 by artist and and model maker Valerie Charlton, with principle photography on the movie of 'Super Connected' completed by the end of 2019. The album and movie were slated for a 2020 release. With the pandemic hitting, Arnold paused all plans on releasing the album and the film. He tried to release the project in 2021, and then again in 2022, but the industry was still only just getting back on it's feet, so Arnold paused the project, along with the "iHead". In 2022 Arnold was diagnosed with autism after two years of assessments. With a fresh perspective on his life and his work, he decided to release the 'Super Connected' project in 2023. On submitting his album for release in January 2023, Arnold was told by his digital distributor 'Ditto Music' that Apple would not accept the album unless the track that mentioned the "iHead" was removed from the album. Protecting his vision, Arnold refused to remove the track for artistic reasons, so the album was submitted to all platforms by Ditto Music, excluding Apple. In April 2023, Arnold released the first single from the album with a scene from the movie that featured the "iHead". The full album launched on all platforms in May, 2023 except for Apple. With overwhelming praise in the press, including 4-star reviews in Mojo and The Times, Arnold launched a public campaign with an open letter to Apple requesting they include his album on Apple Music. The public letter was supported with signatories from celebrities in the entertainment world. It drew attention in the media and, within six days, the album 'Super Connected' was made available on Apple Music. Here's the history of the 'iHead' - "iHead" in action "iHead" parody commercial featuring Stephen Fry Hear the critically acclaimed album, now available on Apple Music Learn more about Eric Wargo here

In this episode we take a look at what the film and video industry can learn from the online music publishing industry, what social currency is and how you can exploit it, and also why this weeks guest, Matt Parsons, thinks that “music is worthless” - yes, that's a direct quote from somebody who works in the music industry – I'm intrigued! Back in 2005, Matt Parsons with his brother Lee founded Ditto Music, an online music distribution service that gained widespread recognition in 2007 by guiding one of their artists in being the first unsigned act to score a Top 40 single in the UK charts – a Guinness World Record! Now with offices in Liverpool, London, Melbourne, Stockholm, San Diego AND Nashville, plus 13 UK Top 40 hits and 85,000 artists in over 100 countries, Matt is one of the leading industry experts for unleashing music into the digital world. I caught up with Matt at his Liverpool office ... Today's interview is with Lee Parsons co-founder of Ditto Music. Ditto Music is a digital music distribution company with offices in Liverpool and Nashville. As CEO of Ditto Music Lee Parsons overseas distribution and marketing campaigns for over 20,000 worldwide artists including Suzi Quatro, Finch, Lil Wayne, Prince, Sir Paul McCartney and Kid British. Starting from their bedrooms in 2007 Lee and His brother Matt launched the first ever unsigned artist into the UK Top 40 singles chart which got them into the Guinness Book Of World Records. Ditto Music have now had 11 UK top 40 singles, all with unsigned artists. Ditto have since been hailed by The Guardian and The Independent as a serious threat to the domination of major labels and launched their own TV show on Sky. Lee spends his time in between Ditto’s US and UK offices overseeing projects, speaking at events and opening new doors for independent artists. The interview was conducted at the Ditto US office on Music Row in Nashville Tennessee. We had been talking for some time however I met Lee a couple days before at a music industry gathering for drinks and appetizers. When Lee walked in everybody stopped what they were doing to greet him, he's just a magnetic type of guy, you can tell when he enters the room. Just an observation. I like to pay attention to people's personalities, mannerisms, and facial expressions when I meet in person. In my quest to find out what it takes to rise "Above The Noise" everything needs to be taken into account! I hope you all enjoy our conversation as much as I did. Lee shares a ton of insight on how he built his career and of course there is always a lot to learn from the experiences of others! If you are releasing your album and are looking for distribution, Ditto Music come with my highest recommendation! Aaron Bethune. Music Specialist.
