Jay Kennedy swung his years of experience in the hospitality industry into a business that combined that with his passion for cycling - the Thirsty Pigs Mobile Event Company. With Thirsty Pigs, he does everything from planning and leading multi-day cycling trips (such as the Marathon and Key West rides in Florida this February!) as well offering complete event planning services for corporate events, reunions, social gatherings, bicycling rides, weddings, tail-gates, birthday parties and more. Thirsty Pigs works closely with a Des Moines area bar, patio and music venue situated on the Des Moines River - Captain Roy's, which is owned and operated by a long-time cycling friend and cycling community supporter (and incredible musician) Wade Thompson. I first connected with Shelby at the Glow Retreat I hosted this past summer and after learning about some of the extra things she needs to factor into her pricing and availability due to being a single parent, I knew I wanted to bring her on the show to elaborate on the perspective. Even if you're not a single parent, some of these thought processes will definitely still apply to anyone with young kids! We talk about the level of scheduling detail needed to make sure everything is in order for her to get out to her jobs (or travel for conventions, etc.). Then we get to talking about her booking policies and how she's developed a way for her to know exactly what each item costs to make so that she can work up from there to set her minimums. Shelby and I also talked about how the Profit First cash management system has helped each of us understand what's truly available to spend and how to be sure we're taking care of ourselves financially. She shares what her next big goal is and what kind of impact it would make on her situation. Being a single parent can certainly not be an easy thing, but it seems to be a serendipitous way to actually enforce policies! In the end, this conversation re-opened my eyes to how everyone's situation is different and there just isn't any point in playing the comparison game. We're all business owners, but we're also all people with other things going on in our lives! And from the UGlu Hotline this week, there's a question about the amount of detail to include on invoices. Just the full amount? Broken down by item? And how do I price add-ons like foils, greenery, etc.? Listen in for my approach! My guest today recorded her episode of MFS on December 10 2021 and she had just stopped working for Club Med at the end of November 2021, making her the most recent EXGO I have interviewed thus far. Her first season was in Club Med Sandpiper in November of 2018 as a Meetings & Event Co-ordinator. Please help me welcome to MFS, Sydney Gaudreau! Both of Sydney's parents were G.O's in Club Med and she spent her whole life going to Club Med on vacation, from Mini-Club to Teen Club. It was at her parent's company in Oakland, California, Trapeze Arts, Inc. (since 1994), where Sydney took a liking to event planning. Trapeze Arts has shared the art of Flying Trapeze with many corporate groups from Google, Pixar, Wells Fargo, and American Express, to name just a few, so there was a lot of event planning involved when these companies came to Trapeze Arts. Sydney also has a Liberal Studies degree from Oregon State University with an emphasis in Event Coordination and Production, so she was well-prepared to start her new job at Club Med. Sydney has so many interesting stories to share, including describing what it was like working at Club Med Turks & Caicos in November 2020 during Covid and the many protocols that had to be followed when you worked there. I hope you enjoy this episode with an amazing, funny, beautiful and charming person. What do you get when you cross a wedding with a music festival, and then add food trucks, a record-setting rainstorm, then a heat wave, and set it all up on a steep hill? Well we're not sure what exactly you'd call it, but it sounds like a lot of fun, and a solid challenge! But this is a challenge that our guest was ready for! Desirée Adams is a wedding planner based in Upstate New York who creates heirloom occasions for modern couples. After seven years of producing high-level events for internationally-recognized companies in Washington, DC, she took a break to focus on her young children. But she couldn't stay away for long. Three years and three moves later, she founded Verve Event Co. in 2017. Focusing on efficiency and artful design, Desirée helps couples enjoy planning their modern wedding so they still have time for life. For her, life is too short to waste it on moments without meaning. She has received awards from the The Knot, Wedding Wire, and the International Live Events Association (ILEA). In the spring of 2019, she became one of the first wedding vendors to launch an Alexa Flash Briefing. In Ask the Planner: Wedding Tips in a Flash, Desirée answers questions that couples and vendors never knew to ask. During its soft launch, her tips were downloaded 13,000 times. Desirée is a recovering grammar queen and loves sweating to the Pitch Perfect soundtrack. When not planning, you can find her leading dance parties with her interns (aka her kids), or buying macarons to share with her husband, her high school sweetheart. http://verveeventco.com/ http://verveeventco.com/asktheplanner http://www.instagram.com/verveeventco/ https://www.facebook.com/verveeventco --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/your-i-do-crew/support
