Anxiety has long been a massive societal issue that spiked during the pandemic, and many of us are still feeling it in 2025. In this episode, renowned Buddhist monk Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche talks in detail about how he personally works with anxiety and panic and the practices he draws upon when dealing with these states.  Mingyur began doing long retreats in his teens and now teaches all over the world.  He's written the books The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness and In Love with the World: A Monk's Journey Through the Bardos of Living and Dying. He also oversees the Tergar Meditation Community, a global network of Buddhist meditation centers.   This episode was originally published in July 2022. In this episode we talk about:  Working with strong emotions using sound and the breath Deconstructing your reality to make it workable Understanding what awareness is in a Buddhist sense  How to make meditation free-range and available to you all times  The simple but also tricky advice of, “stop doing and just be”  When to take a step back or even take a break from meditation What Mingyur Rinpoche says is the true purpose of the practice. This interview was recorded in person at the TED conference in April of 2022, where both Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche and Dan Harris spoke.   Join Dan's online community here Follow Dan on social: Instagram, TikTok Subscribe to our YouTube Channel

We recorded this episode on December 12, 2024. It seems important to mention this at the outset of this episode. There is a lot of early chatter around bodily functions - yikes Steve - but it is all a part of what we appreciate about this podcast: conversation. There is a lot in this discussion around endings, getting older, dying & the Tibetan Book of the Dead. Par for the course over here in Austin, Texas. Godspeed, my friends, godspeed.

In today's rerun episode of Let's Talk Business, we are thrilled to revisit an inspiring discussion with Isaac Bardos, a renowned business coach, public speaker, and former college athlete. Hosted by Meny Hoffman, this episode delves into Isaac's remarkable journey from being underestimated to achieving success in various fields. Isaac shares his transformative experience of discovering his public speaking talent during a high-stakes college Shabbaton, turning a perceived weakness into a powerful strength. This narrative underscores the potential that lies within challenging moments and the transformative power of necessity. Listeners will gain valuable insights into rethinking leadership and personal growth, as Isaac discusses how upbringing and personal choices shape our paths. The episode highlights the importance of resilience, relatability, and the learnable nature of leadership, encouraging even those hesitant to lead to cultivate impactful leadership skills. Additionally, Isaac shares practical strategies for business growth, emphasizing the significance of genuine engagement, financial literacy, and the role of vulnerability in fostering innovation and trust within teams. Through compelling anecdotes and expert advice, this episode offers actionable strategies for aspiring leaders and entrepreneurs to harness their hidden talents and navigate challenges with purpose and resilience. Tune in to explore how embracing vulnerability and maintaining focus can drive both personal and business success. Whether you're an emerging leader or an established business owner, this episode is packed with insights to help you unlock your full potential.   00:00:00 - Discovering Your Calling 00:12:09 - Leading With Purpose and Resilience 00:24:06 - Metrics and Scaling for Business Growth 00:35:11 - Mastering Focus and Adaptation in Business 00:40:32 - Embracing Vulnerability for Business Growth 00:49:22 - Effective Leadership and Business Strategies   Pratical Pointers : “Having a calling” doesn't mean that you're going to save the world; it means that you find yourself in a certain situation at a certain time - and you showed up and did what had to be done. Leadership is effective when a leader demonstrates empathy by showing up, participating, and above all listening. That will encourage your employees to follow where you lead them more than simply issuing orders from above. Although leaders like being seen as the experts who know everything, people will look to you for guidance and open up to you if you are willing to be vulnerable and open up to them, too. Great business leaders are like great coaches: they look at themselves and their opponents in order to discover the patterns. If you're not sure where something is going, zoom out, notice the patterns, and that will help you figure out the most appropriate steps to take and what steps to avoid.

This was a transmission done before the Death, Dying, & Afterlife training. Pristine Awareness is our state of mind after you have taken away our body and personality self.  What is left?  This is Pristine Awareness.  We can recognize and stabilize this awareness now while still in this life.  This will serve us well during the death and dying process and beyond. This transmission connects to God, Source, and Love, Our Guides and Teachers, the Arcturians, and Our Higher Self to bring through this consciousness of Pristine Awareness.  We ask for patterns to assist in stabilizing this awareness during sleeping, dreaming, awake, and pure bliss states of mind.  Finally, the transmission allows us to maintain this awareness during all the stages of Dying and beyond which are known as the 6 Bardos in the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/gene-ang/support

Lessons from Tibetan Wisdom with Mordy Levine and Lama Lhanang

What lessons could a centuries-old Tibetan book hold about living life in the modern era? Turns out, some really important ones.   President of the Jigme Lingpa Center and creator of the Meditation Pro Series, Mordy Levine & Vajrayana Buddhist teacher and director of the Jigme Lingpa Center, Lama Lhanang Rinpoche, join me in this episode to share lessons from the Tibetan Book of the Dead. This text is full of wisdom and guidance for masters to walk people through life, death, and rebirth.   Listen in to hear what Tibetan wisdom has to say about all things karma - working on your karma in preparation for dying, creating karma for yourself, how it manifests in your next life, and more! Topics We Discuss:   [1:02] Handling difficult situations. Everything is impermanent, good and bad. Living in the moment and remembering the impermanence of everything will bolster your resilience.   [3:03] What is the Tibetan Book of the Dead? A Buddhist book written in the 8th century. It was originally only taught to advanced practitioners. It was translated (not very well) to English about 100 years ago and is very dense with teachings. It is hard to understand if you don't have a deep understanding of Tibetan Buddhism. The core of the book is for practitioners to be able to lead their students through the dying process and afterlife for them to have an auspicious rebirth.   [4:54] Do we have to be actively dying to use this wisdom? Preparing now is the best way because death can come at any time. Focus on the present.   [7:43] Working on your karma in preparation for death. Learn to enjoy the present moment every day instead of wanting for more to die in peace. You can work on your karma to change it in this life. We have to start with our minds, speech, and actions.   [15:08] When are we creating karma for ourselves? In moments when we want to react in a negative or harmful way toward others, we have a choice. If someone yells at you, you can either yell at them or respond with compassion. Our thoughts can create negative karma for us. Try reframing your thoughts.   [26:37] How does karma manifest in our next life? The way you are today affects who you are tomorrow. The things on your heart when you die will carry over to the afterlife and to your next life.    [28:50] Choosing your next life. Anyone can choose their path. Some masters leave a letter to their students telling them how and who they'll be reborn as so they can be found and brought back to the monastery to continue their studies. Regular people can choose to make better choices and create good karma going forward in life.    [40:39] How to know a reborn master is actually that same soul? Many children remember their past lives. High lamas can sometimes recognize each other and will do tests with objects of the deceased master to confirm identities. Some institutions carry out research on children and past lives.   [45:21] The Bardos. These are transitional dreamlike states between birth, death, and rebirth. A good lama can walk your consciousness through these. If you start working on your karma now, you can also go through it on your own without getting distracted by distortions of your mind and karma. Knowing how to walk through it is like lucid dreaming - you're aware of what's happening.   [47:52] How does the son of a Jewish rabbi turn into a Buddhist? Mordy found out as a teen that his father, a rabbi, had a Ph.D. studying death, dying, and mourning. He shared this interest with his father and began reading about NDEs and past lives until he knew that he couldn't deny the existence of the afterlife and reincarnation. Eventually, his Orthodox Jewish mother asked him to teach her how to meditate when she was dying.   [52:13] “How we live is how we die.” Living in the present moment so we can shape our realities is the most important thing we can do for ourselves. Prioritizing peace and joy now sets us up to experience more of that in our current life, the afterlife, and beyond. ***********************************************   SUPPORT DR. HOY (2022) es una canción MUY HERMOSA y MUY PATRIÓTICA. AYER (1937) fue una canción MUY VALIENTE y MUY ATREVIDA … ¿Preciosa?

Colin Blackshear and Aaron Brown of Bardos Cider are my guests for this episode. This is their first podcast, and I'm honored to be able to spread the word about what the remarkable work they are doing. They have built Bardos Cider since 2019 to a significant production, of over 150 barrels, by gleaning fruit from abandoned, forgotten, and derelict old orchards from the late 1800s and early 1900s. These trees have learned to survive only on the winter rains and despite human neglect, and this has made their fruit all the more exciting with age. Working with them has connected Aaron and Colin to the history of this land in some very meaningful and even spiritual ways. They clearly have a humility and respect for the wisdom of these elder beings, and through cider they have begun to realize a larger responsibility they have to protect and preserve these orchards. So often wine and cider are produced from an egotistical standpoint. I decided I wanted to make a certain kind of wine or cider, so I found or planted vineyards or orchards to meet my specifications and invested my will and desires and resources into bringing my ego-vision to reality. When this is my approach, is the wine or cider that I end up with really a reflection of the terroir, or just my ego? Colin and Aaron of Bardos Cider remind me that there is another approach. I could instead look to work in service of what already is thriving without my ego, despite that it may not be what I thought I wanted or intended. I could work to highlight and preserve the beautiful work that was already being done before me, and that will continue on once I'm gone. Could this lead to a truer reflection of place? And if I applied this approach to my life more broadly, is this the kind of perspective that could lead to abundance? https://www.bardoscider.com/ Sponsor: https://www.centralaswine.com/

I was born 11-11-69 into a nonpracticing Jewish family where the subject of spirituality never came up. So when I discovered an intense spiritual yearning within myself at the age of nineteen, I was completely on my own. After graduating from Towson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Philosophy in 1994, I had become an avid practitioner of meditation and contemplation of the nature of Reality. As a solitary practitioner, I found my path to be an oscillation of understanding the Nondual view of Dzogchen and experiencing nonordinary events that expanded my understanding of the classic out-of-body experience, astral realm, and the Bardos. The first book of the Trilogy titled "Reality Explained" centers on the peak period of my spiritual journey just after returning home from a weeklong meditation retreat at the world-renowned ‘Monroe Institute'. I had been home less than a week after attending one of their advanced programs when without warning I began to have profound Visions while living out my day-to-day life. I could be taking a walk with my wife and daughter or going about my daily routine at work when I would find myself spontaneously thrust into a vastly more expansive perspective that placed my entire world in a wholly new context. These Visions were progressive in nature as they clearly and pointedly demonstrated the Grand Design of Reality. Some of these Visions were existentially devastating and some were downright terrifying, as they exposed the true nature of the ‘self'. Others were so blissful that they could only be tolerated for brief moments. Ultimately, they coalesced to reveal a model of Reality that is as elegant in its simplicity as it is mind-blowing in its implications. In the first book, I outline a play-by-play account of how four of these Visions shaped a new understanding regarding the true architecture of Reality and how this understanding resolves one of our greatest philosophical paradoxes, the relationship between mind and matter or God and the world. Given the universal nature of these experiences, you will be able to verify each truth for yourself. I wrote this book to demystify the subject of Spiritual Awakening. There are already many excellent books on this subject otherwise known as ‘Nondual Wisdom' however, what I found to be missing was a book that chronicles the day to day, month to month, and year to year unfolding of the Self in detail. This book is a very personal account of an incredibly impersonal process broken down step by step and presented almost in slow motion. The reader is invited on a journey that chronicles each step along the path to Spiritual Awakening. The details of the climactic experience itself and the final understanding that results from undergoing such a radical and permanent shift in perspective is where I intend to lead you. It is also my hope that this book will serve to demonstrate how the experience of Spiritual Awakening is not something mythical or a fable belonging to some other time or place but an actual shift in perspective that is available right here and now to anyone that is curious enough to explore the true nature of ‘being'. I speak to you from the point of view that we are all sharing the human experience and when we explore the depths of our minds we find the same treasure awaits us all. The fact that I am a husband and a father with a full-time career stands as proof that you don't have to choose between worldly life and Spiritual Awakening. We will center ourselves to be able to see how it effects our body, mind, and heart, and then let go and surrender to the present moment. From a grounded place of what is, we can be led by our true self connected to God, the divine, the universe, to what could be. (over the next two weeks we will address the other two programs of happiness) Our listening portion today is from Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, a Buddhist monk and international teacher. “All that we are looking for in life – all the happiness, contentment, and peace of mind – is right here In the present moment. Our very own awareness is itself fundamentally pure and good. Everything you ever wanted is right here in this present moment of awareness. Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche with Helen Tworkov, In Love with the World: A Monk's Journey through the Bardos of Living and Dying (Spiegel and Grau: 2019). --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/angie-winn/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/angie-winn/support
