Kerry Lutz and Mindy McIntosh engaged in a thorough analysis of recent GDP figures, expressing skepticism about their accuracy and relevance to the actual economic landscape, particularly regarding personal consumption and job creation. They discussed the potential distortion of economic realities due to the upcoming election and the growing demand for tangible assets, emphasizing the importance of making investment decisions based on long-term financial planning rather than emotional or politically driven factors. Mindy highlighted the significance of guiding clients through media bias while addressing emerging market trends, particularly in technology, AI, and clean energy sectors, alongside stable industries like healthcare. The conversation also touched on retirement planning, with Mindy voicing concerns about legislative risks affecting future generations and Kerry advocating for an active, fulfilling approach to retirement. They concluded by discussing the importance of diversification and how to connect with Mindy's firm for further insights. Mindy was a social worker, working in the labor and delivery ward of a hospital, when she became pregnant with her first child. She planned a home birth with a midwife with that first baby, but at 40 weeks and 4 days her midwife abandoned her care, leaving her with no other choice than to deliver at the hospital where she worked. Because she knew the nurses and staff so well, she was able to navigate that birth experience without trauma - but the betrayal and grief of her midwife abandoning her stayed. It was a deep, sister wound, possibly with echos from other lifetimes. During her second pregnancy, she did a lot of work to heal the pain from that first experience. She had a beautiful, healing home birth with that baby, but credits both experiences as catalysts for the work she does now. Mindy does amazing work helping other women reawaken their inner wisdom, access their power, and heal + elevate their legacy! Jillian is joined by Mindy Mussleman to discuss the differences between motivation and inspiration, specifically when it comes to your health and well-being. There is a common misconception that motivation is all that is needed to achieve your fitness goals. However, it is inspiration that ultimately leads to the desired outcome. Motivation without inspiration can be misleading and have toxic consequences in your fitness journey. Gluten is a popular topic but many people don't know much about it, so I have my good friend Mindy Musselman back on the show to break it down for us. Lisa Keefauver, my guest on episode 45, is authoring a book to help guide us through our grief. Titled, Grief is a Sneaky Bitch, the same name as her highly rated podcast, Lisa is providing snack sized commentary that is digestible even during our well documented grief stricken, foggy brain phase. Lisa came to know personal grief when her husband Eric succumbed to a brain tumor on August 16, 2011. Married since 2002 and parenting a daughter, without Eric by her side, Lisa found herself as a single parent to their 7-year-old and a widow. Lisa and Eric faced an uphill battle with what became a misdiagnosed illness. Mental health was blamed for Eric's erratic change in behavior, drastic weight gain and significant memory loss. You will hear Lisa exclaim her concern and encouragement for everyone needing health or mental care to be a persistent advocate for yourself and loved ones. As her curious, intelligent, and athletic life partner died in her arms, Lisa was devastated by the realization that their lives should not have been as chaotic as they were during his final year of life. With an education and career in social work and non-profits Lisa's life had already been filled with holding space for others, particularly during their grieving of life's unfortunate circumstances. Then in 2018, after a personal health scare, Lisa had an “aha” moment. Looking at her life's work, creative writing skills and gathering determination, Lisa quit her job to focus on changing our narrative on grief, one conversation at a time. Reimagining Grief was born alongside her podcast titled Grief is a Sneaky Bitch and a line of very cool and much needed empathy cards. Like each of my guests on Real Grief – Real Healing with Mindy Corporon, Lisa channeled her own grief into healing actions for herself and others. There is a clear pattern, although different channels, that seems to help many of us find post traumatic growth after grief events. Most recently, finishing her first semester as an adjunct professor with the Steve Hicks Schools of Social Work at The University of Texas, Lisa is finding joy in passing her well-worn knowledge on holding space and bearing witness to young adults. Writing for Thrive Global and offering her own newsletter, Lisa has found her calling and is living IN her purpose. I am grateful to have been a guest on Grief is a Sneaky Bitch, aired on October 12, 2021. The opportunity to meet and engage with Lisa as an interviewee and now interviewer presents a unique journey for each of us to share our similar and unique healing strategies with you.You will be blessed by Lisa's calm nature as she opens her heart to help each of us change the narrative on grief.Reaching for Courageous Kindness every day!•Find Mindy on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MindyCorporonLLCInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mindycorporon/Twitter: https://twitter.com/MindyCorporonLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mindycorporon/•This channel is made possible because of listeners just like you. On March 16, 2021, eight people lost their lives, six of whom were of Asian descent. “The spa shootings only fueled a surge in racially motivated hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, or AAPI, during the pandemic.” - Annika Kim Constantino, CNBCMost days my faith and love of humankind sustains me. My faith in God, humanity and loving one another enough to make a difference for the better. In Episode 44, I am in conversation with JiaoJiao Shen (sounds like Jow Jow with a hard J like jump) about her deep interest in making a difference in the lives of others.Who is the other? Actually, we all are the “other” at one time or another. I can say this mostly because I am a woman and have been “othered” in my life. However, as a white girl, I have also come to know about the privileges afforded me. I am keenly aware of not being considered the “other” as often as marginalized humans. “Hate is Unacceptable and Proven so With Love” in Episode 40 with the 2 for Seder founder, Marnie Fienberg speaks to the power of love in the midst of life's traumas. My guest, JiaoJiao Shen, is Chinese. She knows about being the “other” and in our conversation offers thoughtful insight and reflection from her childhood and teenage years as a Chinese girl growing up in America. My desire to interview JiaoJiao came about after she presented her story of realizing she had suppressed grief from years of being on the receiving end of microaggressions. Years of microaggressions tossed her way by those of us who knew better and didn't care and those of us who care but didn't know better. We each have more to learn. By the way, I have been both of these people in my life. The murders in Atlanta and the almost 150% increase in hate crimes against Asians pierced an area of pain and grief in JiaoJiao she had subconsciously silenced. Our conversation weaves together the pains and joys of her childhood, teenage years and now her concerns as a Chinese mother, wife and daughter working in corporate America. JiaoJiao sounds like me and any other mother who loves their children...how do we best protect them, teach them to protect themselves while bravely loving openly our amazing world?I ask each of my guests, how can we help you? JiaoJiao easily offers us the following:Consider the material we are consuming...are we educating ourselves about cultures different from our own in books, social media and movies?Cultivate relationships over a coffee, a tea or at your children's activities. Finding a common denominator and expanding this to a relationship provides valuable lessons for each of us.Take specific interest and time to learn about meaningful cultural events associated with a culture different from yours. For example, in 2022, pay close attention to Chinese holidays and festivals. As each of us become more aware of the “other”, we treat them with care, concern and compassion - as we would want to be treated. JiaoJiao encourages us to change the narrative about Asians with understanding, acceptance and respect.Resources for this episode:JiaoJiao Shen - LinkedInAsian American Pacific Islander history•Find Mindy on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MindyCorporonLLCInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mindycorporon/Twitter: https://twitter.com/MindyCorporonLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mindycorporon/•This channel is made possible because of listeners just like you. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” - Hebrews 11:1. This is the verse I think of when Dr. Hal and Julie Hanson and their beloved son, Jeff, come to mind. With one look at the Jeff Hanson Art website you will find the chunky texture and screaming colors that have been the signature style of Jeff and his team, also known as mom and dad. Since he blossomed into an artist through happenstance, perseverance and a desire to share kindness with others one piece of art at a time Jeff's art has been sought after by charity auctions and high profile celebrities, including Sir Elton John.Born with Neurofibromatosis, Jeff would lose enough of his sight by the age of 12 that his parents understood they would need to find adjustments in their dream bank. Jeff wouldn't drive a car or be able to see the stars in the sky but he would leave a legacy of kindness and beauty as well as donate over $1 million dollars to philanthropic causes by the age of 21.Jeff, Hal and Julie touched my life by entering our story at a seriously difficult time. You can hear a piece of the heartache and rescue by listening to podcast episode 25, “What Constitutes Your Palette of Joy?” or read about their genuine love of others in my book, Healing a Shattered Soul. The Hanson family joined the tribe of humans who were the right people to have around us when we needed someone to help carry the grief and sorrow of losing my father and oldest son, Reat, to hate and violence.I know the great lessons discussed and shared in this podcast will resonate with you. Luckily many of these and more can be found in a book Dr. Hal Hanson published in 2013 titled, “Lessons from CLOD; An Inspiring Story of Art, Philanthropy and Entrepreneurship”.Jeff's art is quite amazing and yet during his life, he won awards for philanthropy, kindness and generosity highlighting the character of his soul not his paintings. Jeff lives on in his parents, their family and friends, my heart and luckily in his art, too.“Every act of kindness helps create kinder communities, more compassionate nations and a better world for all...even one painting at a time.” - Jeff HansonResources for this episode:The Church of the ResurrectionCBS Sunday Morning - Inner VisionChildren's Tumor FoundationPost Traumatic Stress Disorder assistance•Find Mindy on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MindyCorporonLLCInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mindycorporon/Twitter: https://twitter.com/MindyCorporonLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mindycorporon/•This channel is made possible because of listeners just like you. I focused on kindness and interfaith understanding, not on white supremacists, after my father, William L Corporon MD and oldest son, Reat Underwood, were murdered on April 13, 2014, by a self-proclaimed neo-nazi. When prompted to click a link, engage in a live conversation, or watch any type of documentary pertaining to the hateful ideology that led to the murders of my beloved, I would physically remove myself from the situation. Already shattered, I had no intention of potentially harming myself further by giving time to this hateful rhetoric. My path of choice led me to meet Jon Willis, founder of Kansas City Interfaith Youth Alliance. We formed a partnership in hiring Clare Stern to oversee youth engagement and leadership in the areas of interfaith dialogue. Ms. Stern introduced me to the Parliament of the World Religions. In 2018, I found myself walking the halls of the Metro Toronto Convention Center as one of 8300 humans desiring to fulfill the theme of the seventh world-wide interfaith conference…”The Promise of Inclusion, the Power of Love”.I was stunned to find Pardeep Singh Kaleka, a kindred shattered soul, in conversation with a former white supremacist, Arno Michaelis. Unfortunately, Pardeep and I share the pain of losing our family members to violence ignited and fueled by hate. As the author of, The Gift of our Wounds, Pardeep found opportunities for post traumatic growth and healing after the murders of his own father and friends at the Sikh Temple in Oakcreek, Wisconsin on August 5, 2012.Taking on the role of family and temple communicator only hours after a gunman took the lives of six on location and a seventh, who died in 2020 from his wounds, Pardeep found that sharing the stories and lives of his father and friends was a natural path for him.As a former law enforcement officer and educator, Pardeep wanted to control the narrative providing empowerment to his Sikh community. By directing attention to what they COULD do after the murders rather than focusing on them being victims of hate he asked himself and others to redefine forgiveness. Relying on the three tenets of Sikhism 1. meditation upon and devotion to the Creator, 2. truthful living, and 3. service to humanity, Pardeep was instrumental in founding Serve 2 Unite.Currently, a trauma clinician and the Executive Director of the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee, Pardeep shares with me in episode 36, “Making His Child a Priority, Saved Their Lives”, his own desire for humans to heart-speak; speaking from one heart to another. He continues to place a high priority on allowing mental health and faith health to walk hand in hand.Isn't this what scriptures from the Bible, Torah, Quran, and the Adi Granth tell us? Each of these religious sources also provide an avenue for forgiveness.Try it.•Find Mindy on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MindyCorporonLLCInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mindycorporon/Twitter: https://twitter.com/MindyCorporonLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mindycorporon/•This channel is made possible because of listeners just like you. From April 7 to July 15, 1994, nine-year-old Jacqueline Murekatete witnessed the atrocities of the Rwandan genocide. In this episode, Jacqueline offers us the context in which CURRENT, yes current, religious and ethnic minorities are suffering.Jacqueline's responsibility to share her story and that of her family came to light when she met David Gewirtzman, a holocaust survivor, as a sophomore in a United States high school.David became a trusted friend, confidant and mentor to Jacqueline as they traveled widely speaking publicly about their personal knowledge relating to intolerance and hate.“From goals and dreams to being hunted for extermination”, is exactly how Jacqueline describes the dramatic change in her life when the Hutu government of Rwanda encouraged, to the point of implementation, the systemic murders of their neighbors, family members and friends who were ethnically, Tutsis - Jacqueline's heritage. Targeted because of their ethnicity, the Tutsi's were initially labeled as cockroaches and by the time the genocide began they were seen as inhuman.Has anyone treated you like a cockroach? Have you treated another like a cockroach?Jacqueline bravely represents her family and her ethnicity as the founder of the Genocide Survivors Foundation. Having lived in fear for her life, over the 100 day siege, she values our humanity in a deeper way than most. How is it that “in this day and age there are people who believe that other humans don't deserve to live? Genocides continue to be a major threat facing humanity”, Jacqueline shares with me in our conversation. This ideology of overpowering a person or person's due to their faith, ethnicity or gender has to be fought. Jacqueline explains what many know to be true, “we have the same God given right to exist.”Her friend and mentor, David Gewirtzman, is quoted as saying, “diversity is not adversity. Human diversity is an asset to be embraced.”Do you value diversity? If so, how do you REPRESENT that you value diversity?Jacqueline's passion to live for her family and to help others guided her path to the founding of the Genocide Survivors Foundation. “Live beyond yourself and with passion for others.” Jacqueline is a treasure in our midst. She offers us a light to peace with the call to focus on finding our own passions and pursuing them.Friends, what is your passion for others? Are you following this passion?Together, we are better.•Find Mindy on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MindyCorporonLLCInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mindycorporon/Twitter: https://twitter.com/MindyCorporonLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mindycorporon/•This channel is made possible because of listeners just like you. In episode 33, “Our Teen in Crisis”, I read an excerpt from Healing a Shattered Soul, my faithful journey of courageous kindness after the trauma and grief of domestic terrorism. The loving arms of those who embraced our family during the most tragic and sorrowful time in our lives, from photojournalist Joe Shalmoni to Rabbi Jonathan Rudnick and Kathy Schikevitz, can be felt in my attempt to describe the importance of saying “yes” to those who offer assistance when we need it most.We are forever grateful to our middle school counselor, Candy Moore and Principal Roxana Rogers Lemon with the Blue Valley Middle School as they lifted Lukas from our sad and grieving home into their daily care. You will feel my worry, and frankly fear, concerning my own parenting of our 12-year-old Lukas. With the help of strangers and friends, we managed to see the sun each day while learning again to breathe, walk and find a smile. My gratitude is offered to the institutions such as the Anti-Defamation League of Washington D.C. and The Church of the Resurrection as they each shined their own light on the inspiration and hope our family desperately needed.Friends, sometimes, hope is all we have. Hope to have a pain-free heart, hope to find a meal, have clean water to drink and to see our loved ones again. I pray that Healing a Shattered Soul provides you a much needed piece of hope in your journey.Have hope that you can find the best healing path for you.Together we are better•Find Mindy on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MindyCorporonLLCInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mindycorporon/Twitter: https://twitter.com/MindyCorporonLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mindycorporon/•This channel is made possible because of listeners just like you. Standing in line at a grocery store, I feel a tingling, a prickly feeling run up my spine. Initially, taking a breath to calm my reaction and then slowly turning to see what might have caused this sensation, I find myself staring into the eyes of a man staring back at me. My glaring at him with steady eyes and confidence, also portrayed in my posture, moves him to take a step away from me. He was following my nonverbal cues. I learned this technique in the T.A.K.E. DEFENSE class offered by The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation. Alexandra Elizabeth Kemp’s father, Roger Kemp, is my guest on episode 32, “Saving Lives is Ali Kemp’s Legacy”. Roger and Kathy Kemp’s own lives came crashing down on June 18, 2002, when their 19-year-old, first-born, vivacious, spirited, intelligent, beautiful and filled-with-life daughter, Ali was brutally murdered. A Blue Valley North High School graduate, Kansas State University sophomore and sorority sister in Pi Beta Phi, Ali was living a full and engaging life. She was a beloved older sister to two brothers, a friend to many, and sought after for leadership commitments and mission work abroad. For his efforts in creating The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation, T.A.K.E. DEFENSE and his work in the heartland region to help law enforcement flush out criminals, Roger received the Presidential Citizens Medal from President Obama in October 2011. While this event was a memorable occasion, Roger is quick to add he is equally as proud of the following accomplishments. To date, 69,000 girls and women, ages 12 to 90, have been trained in self-defense by martial arts expert and current holder of a 9th degree Black Belt, Jill Leiker, who also fills the role of Executive Director of the foundation named after Ali. Jill’s spouse, Bob Leiker joins her in curriculum creation for the T.A.K.E. DEFENSE course. Bob is an expert in self-defense and tactical training, holding his own 9th degree Black Belt. Roger shares with us the importance of tenacity and working with law enforcement as well as community to solve crimes. Hand in hand with the likes of legendary Alvin Brooks, Roger was instrumental in solving 11 homicides in the Kansas City metropolitan area during the same time he was searching for the monster who heinously stole Ali’s future. With the help of Lamar Advertising locally and nationally, truck drivers from the east coast to the west, Roger blanketed the United States with a composite sketch of the murder suspect. These efforts proved to be crucial in apprehending the suspect who was brought into custody, tried and convicted. You will find the book “Ali Was Here” a compelling read, while traversing the details of Roger and Kathy’s journey on behalf of their daughter. Now what? You can help save a life, too. Take an action by helping the efforts of The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation and their T.A.K.E. DEFENSE class with a financial donation…click here. Sharing his desire to save young girls and women from predators, Roger vows that by teaching them self-defense techniques, “not to fight but to get out of the situation and make it home”, his daughter’s compassion for life is a living legacy. Through his grief and healing journey, Roger’s powerful words ring clearly, “I get up every morning and fight the battle”. A battle he will fight until he meets Ali in Heaven.•Find Mindy on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MindyCorporonLLCInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mindycorporon/Twitter: https://twitter.com/MindyCorporonLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mindycorporon/•This channel is made possible because of listeners just like you.
