Have you ever experienced analysis paralysis? This describes the feeling of anxiety you get when you have so much information that any action you take feels like the wrong one, so you end up not doing ANYTHING. It's really no wonder that the average person can feel overwhelmed by information, options, and choice. Every year in the United States, for example, 30,000 new products are released into the market. The average American grocery store, so not a superstore like a Walmart, just a normal sized grocery store, has more than 30,000 options on their shelves at any given time. And the average Walmart, well, it has more than 120,000 products.Everywhere we turn we're just surrounded by more and more choice. But is that a good thing?Join host Jen Clinehens (MS/MBA) as we explore the Choice Overload Effect: How too many options can actually have negative consequences for our brains, businesses, and lives. And how we, as business owners, designers, marketers, and corporate leaders can manage the amount of options we give people so they can feel better about buying from us.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Please take 12 seconds to rate and review the podcast because it helps us find new listeners ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐COACHING✅ To learn more about working one-on-one with Jen and book your free Connection Call, visit https://www.choicehacking.com/coaching-inviteThis month I have 3 spots available - first come, first serve.FREE RESOURCES✅ Get a free digital copy of my bestselling book for a limited time, Choice Hacking: How to use psychology and behavioral science to create an experience that sings. We examine how digital culture's promise of frictionless perfection has created unrealistic expectations that we unconsciously apply to relationships, creativity, and life itself. The conversation explores the psychological residue of living in an attention economy—how algorithmic thinking shapes our behavior even when we consciously reject it, and why we find ourselves reaching backward in time for tools and practices that feel more aligned with human limitations. The discussion reveals how consumer culture has colonized our emotional lives, creating cycles of acquisition that promise depth but deliver dopamine hits instead. We explore the radical act of commitment in a culture designed around endless options—whether that's using one typewriter for a month, smoking the same tobacco consistently, or building sustained relationships with imperfect objects. Through examining our relationship with vintage technology and analog tools, we uncover deeper questions about attention, authenticity, and what it means to build genuine depth in a world optimized for surface-level engagement. The conversation suggests that embracing friction and imperfection isn't nostalgia—it's a necessary practice for psychological health in an over-optimized world. -Ai If you enjoyed this episode, please consider giving us a rating and/or a review. There's a type of fabric that looks like leather, feels like leather, but isn't leather (or made from any animal materials). For decades, it was called "Pleather" – a combination of the words "plastic" and "leather" – and it was considered cheap, tacky, and artificial. But today, that same material is a $41 billion market. What changed? The name. Now we call Pleather "Vegan Leather."And that simple reframing transformed not just how people perceive the material, but how they feel when they're wearing it.Join host Jen Clinehens (MS/MBA) to explore the fascinating story of how Pleather became Vegan Leather… How the meaning we attach to a product or experience defines its value…And how you can use this strategy to transform perceptions of your own products and brand.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Please take 12 seconds to rate and review the podcast because it helps us find new listeners ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐COACHING✅ To learn more about working one-on-one with Jen and book your free Connection Call, visit https://www.choicehacking.com/coaching-inviteThis month I have 3 spots available - first come, first serve. In this conversation, Michael Fisher, founder and CEO of Rotten, shares his journey of building a candy brand from scratch with zero experience in the industry. He talks about the initial trap that many startup CEOs fall into, himself included, of chasing the symbols of success instead of focusing on the business fundamentals. Michael then shares his personal connection to candy and the creative process behind building a brand narrative that emotionally resonates with consumers. During the conversation, we touch on the power of learning from advisors, the role of Kickstarter in validating his product concept, and his focus on healthier ingredients while maintaining great taste. Michael also shares insights on creative collaboration, the challenges of competing in the candy industry, including navigating legal issues with larger brands, and his vision for a better world through diverse product options.Key points from this episode:Transitioning from a startup CEO mindset to a real business is crucial.Learning from advisors and networking is key to success.Kickstarter served as a validation tool for Rotten's concept.A personal connection to candy inspired the brand's focus.Building a brand narrative is essential in a competitive market.World-building with engaging characters enhances brand identity through rich and engaging storytelling. The candy industry is brand-dominated, requiring strong branding to compete for loyalty.A significant portion of consumers are purchasing less candy due to health concerns. The brand aims to attract consumers who have never purchased better-for-you candy before.Formulation challenges are common when creating healthier candy options. The brand has undergone multiple reformulations to improve product quality.Legal challenges from larger brands can be daunting, but also indicate market presence. The goal is to provide consumers with better options that taste great.A better world means offering diverse food options, including healthier choices. Sound Bites:"It's really hard to remember that there isn't a playbook. What's going to work for your brand is going to be a unique path.""I stopped buying a lot of candy, actually, and I missed it. I missed the experience of eating candy.”"I really wanted to have a focus on building a strong brand that people could love.""We have worlds that haven't been explored, you know, Freektopia and all these fun places.”“More than a third of consumers in our category, non-chocolate candy, reported purchasing less candy over the last year. And the number one reason they report that is health and diet concerns."“We are showing that there is demand from people and people are willing to pay a premium for candy that still tastes incredible and gives them some of these health benefits.”“We're gonna win here is if someone eats our candy and it's their favorite candy, regardless of the health benefits.""So that was a fun time for me to play around in my kitchen, but I quickly learned that it's a very technical product to make." Behavioral Science For Brands: Leveraging behavioral science in brand marketing.
In this episode we talk with Gareth Harvey. Gareth was previously a professor of consumer psychology but now advises companies about how they can apply findings from behavioral science. In this episode he discusses some of his work with retailers showing how they can better frame special offers, use music more effectively and adjust the shopper journey.
In this enlightening episode of The Voice of Retail, host Michael LeBlanc interviews Anabel Maldonado, Founder and CEO of PSYKHE AI, a company at the forefront of using psychographic intelligence and generative AI to transform the future of e-commerce merchandising. With a rich background that spans neuropsychology and luxury fashion—having worked with the founding team of Net-a-Porter—Anabel brings a unique perspective to the conversation about personalization, retail AI, and customer behavior.Anabel describes how PSYKHE AI solves a persistent problem in digital retail: ineffective, one-size-fits-all recommendation engines. Traditional AI personalization relies heavily on transactional history and assumes repetitive buying behavior. PSYKHE AI instead integrates the Big Five personality traits—openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism—to determine what products emotionally resonate with users. The result is a real-time, per-user merchandising engine that reorders product pages based on deep learning and aesthetic psychology.Anabel explains that these psychographic insights allow PSYKHE AI to move beyond surface-level recommendations. Rather than bombarding consumers with lookalike products or static best-sellers, the platform dynamically surfaces items that feel uniquely “them”—even across unrelated categories like fashion, fragrance, and home décor. The system learns from user behavior and product interaction without relying on surveys or manual input, enabling meaningful personalization that adapts over time. The platform is particularly suited for large-scale, multi-brand retailers where product discovery is a challenge. PSYKHE AI delivers significant improvements in metrics such as conversion rate, time to transaction, and revenue per visitor, reporting uplifts between 17% and 35% through continuous A/B testing.Retailers with at least 50,000 monthly unique visitors and a product catalog with depth (four or more pages in key categories) are the ideal partners. As AI adoption accelerates, Anabel urges retailers to close the cultural gap between tech teams and merchants by embracing tools that reflect the emotional complexity of consumer decision-making.For those looking to stay ahead of the curve in retail innovation, this episode offers a compelling look at how emotional intelligence and AI can come together to redefine product discovery in e-commerce. Michael LeBlanc is the president and founder of M.E. LeBlanc & Company Inc, a senior retail advisor, keynote speaker and now, media entrepreneur. How to craft communication that your audience will remember. Why do some messages stick, while others go in one ear and out the other? When it comes to crafting memorable communication, Ada Aka says not all verbiage is created equal. “Certain words are intrinsically more memorable than others,” says Aka, an assistant professor of marketing at Stanford Graduate School of Business. In her research of consumer behavior and decision-making, she's uncovered how language shapes not just our perception of the world, “but how the world stays with us over time." From concrete terms to emotionally charged ones, certain words have more staying power than others, and to communicators who want to capture audiences (and keep them), she says, “Carefully chosen words, they're going to be taking the attention.”In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Aka joins Matt Abrahams to explore the science of memorable communication. From creating brand slogans that stick to choosing words that align with your message, she reveals how to create communication that won't be forgotten.Episode Reference Links:Ada AkaEp.80 Magic Words: Change What You Say to Inspire and Influence Others Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (02:05) - The Power of Words in Memory (03:45) - What Makes Words Memorable? Ever feel like your best ideas get ignored? You spend hours crafting content, but instead of engagement, you get… silence. Worse, when people scroll past your work a few times, they start to build the habit of skipping it entirely. And if you don't fix this habit? Your audience won't just scroll past today—they'll forget you exist tomorrow. So how do you stop the scroll, create content that people actually care about, and build an audience that sees themselves in what you make? The answer? Psychology. Both yours and your audience's. In this episode of 'Creators That Crush,' host Shawn Buttner explores how creators can use audience psychology to create irresistible content and build a dedicated following. Drawing insights from an episode of the Creator Science podcast What You'll Learn Today: How audience psychology determines whether people stop scrolling—or keep scrolling past you. The three mindsets every creator needs to beat (or risk staying stuck). Because great content starts with YOU. Welcome to Creators That Crush, the show that helps you move from crushed to crushing it as a creator. Despite all the ways that artificial intelligence promises to improve our lives, many consumers feel anxious and are averse to AI-powered products and services. For marketers and product managers, it's vital to understand what is driving that resistance to adoption. Julian De Freitas is an assistant professor in the marketing unit at Harvard Business School. He has identified five main ways people see artificial intelligence negatively: that AI is opaque, emotionless, inflexible, autonomous, and not human enough. Through real-life cases and the latest research, he explains how companies can soothe anxieties and encourage consumer adoption. Through what he calls “Pre-suasion,” communicators can prime audiences to receive messages in a specific way, simply by drawing their attention in specific directions. “It involves focusing people on—putting them in mind of—those motivators before they encounter [them] in the communicator's message,” Cialdini says, “bringing people's focus of attention onto something that is nested in the message…before that message is delivered, so they have been readied for the concept.”In this episode, Matt Abrahams and Cialdini talk about the motivating power of FOMO, getting better advice from others, and how your next wine purchase could be influenced by what music is playing in the shop.Episode Reference Links:Robert CialdiniRobert's books: Influence / Pre-SuasionEp.11 The Science of Influence: How to Persuade Others And Hold Their AttentionEp.142 Power and Persuasion: Live Insights from Stanford Experts Original Episode: Ep.76 Change My Mind: Using “Pre-suasion” to Influence Others Connect:Email Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00:00) IntroductionMatt Abrahams introduces Robert Cialdini, the Regents Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Marketing at Arizona State University(00:01:56) Persuasion and Pre-suasionDistinguishing persuasion and pre-suasion, with focus on attention and motivation.(00:05:17) Priming and Framing in Pre-suasionThe power of pre-suasion and its cognitive effects on decision-making.(00:07:58) Understanding ScarcityHow scarcity influences behavior and decision-making through fear of loss.(00:10:48) The Unity PrincipleThe unity principle and its role in building connection in persuasive efforts.(00:14:04) Social Proof and InfluenceResearch on social proof and how others' actions influence individual choices.(00:19:24) The Role of Language in PersuasionThe impact of subtle language shifts on collaboration and critique.(00:22:23) The Final Three QuestionsRobert shares communication advice, a communicator he admires, and his recipe for successful communication.(00:26:49) Conclusion (00:00) - Introduction (02:40) - Persuasion and Pre-suasion (06:01) - Priming and Framing in Pre-suasion (08:42) - Understanding Scarcity (11:32) - The Unity Principle (14:48) - Social Proof and Influence (20:08) - The Role of Language in Persuasion (23:07) - The Final Three Questions (27:33) - Conclusion

In this powerful episode, we dive into a transformative approach to client relationships that will change the way you do business, going beyond the surface to tackle some of the most pressing challenges entrepreneurs face today — especially those who want to maintain high standards, protect their boundaries, and ensure they're working with clients who truly value what they bring to the table. We explore the concept of making your clients audition for the privilege of working with you, much like contestants on American Idol. This isn't about playing hard to get; it's about setting clear boundaries, commanding confidence, and ensuring that the clients you take on are aligned with your values, vision, and the level of service you provide. In this episode, I discuss:Auditioning Your Clients: Just like in American Idol, not everyone makes it to the next round. I'll teach you how to audition your clients, guiding you on principles to help them either self-eliminate or clearly identify themselves as strong potential candidates.Creating Demand Generation: Discover how to generate strong demand for your services, making clients eager to work with you. When done right, this approach flips the script, positioning you as the sought-after expert who clients are vying to work with.Combating Scope Creep: Learn how to protect your time and resources by setting firm boundaries from the start, ensuring that your projects stay within scope and that you're compensated fairly for any additional work.Setting Boundaries and Expectations as an Empath: As someone who genuinely cares about others (and I'm sure you do in your business), it can be challenging to enforce boundaries. I'll share strategies to balance empathy with the necessity of maintaining your professional integrity.Commanding Confidence in the Discovery Phase: The initial discovery phase is crucial for establishing authority and setting the tone for the entire client relationship. I'll guide you on how to exude confidence and control during this critical stage.Mastering Value-Based Pricing: Discover how to shift the focus from cost to value, ensuring that clients understand and appreciate the worth of your services. I'll share techniques for implementing value-based pricing that aligns with the results you deliver, helping you command higher fees while maintaining client satisfaction.Maintaining High-Profit Margins: Learn strategies to keep your profit margins high without compromising on the quality of your work. We'll discuss how to structure your offerings and negotiations to ensure you're paid what you deserve, allowing you to focus on delivering excellence.Removing Objections with Confidence: Objections can derail a conversation and undermine the perceived value of your services. I'll guide you on addressing and removing objections preemptively, creating an environment where clients see you as the essential bridge to achieving their goals. By removing the air out of the room, you'll keep the focus on the vision and the transformative impact of working with you.Eliminating Budget Concerns: Learn how to remove budget from the equation by shifting the conversation to value. I'll show you how to guide clients to see the worth of your services, allowing you to command the rates you deserve while keeping your profit margins high.By the end of this episode, you'll have a clear roadmap for elevating your business relationships, protecting your time and energy, and ensuring that the clients you work with are a perfect fit for your services. Whether you're a marketer, event organizer, community leader, business executive, or content creator, the path to achieving your desired success comes down to cultivating ideal experiences. Without that, nothing can be built, established, or mobilized within the minds of people. What makes someone pay to come to an event? What makes someone watch or read content? What makes someone buy something, anything? An experience that drove curiosity! An experience that created a need or want. And an anticipated experience of the outcome after. But how do we harness that? Where do we start? This episode will break all of that down in a simple, understandable way, as taken from my live virtual keynote presentation.Beyond The Episode Gems:All Frameworks Covered Are From Troy's Book, Strategize Up: StrategizeUpBook.comSee The Video Version Of This Live Keynote PresentationDownload HubSpot's State Of Marketing Report for FreeDiscover All Podcasts On The HubSpot Podcast NetworkGet Discount Off Riverside & Try For Free #####Support The Podcast & Connect With Troy: • Rate & Review iDigress: iDigress.fm/Reviews• Follow Troy's LinkedIn @FindTroy• Get Strategy Solutions & Services: GrowWithTroy.com• Follow Troy's Instagram @FindTroy
