Want to grow your own cut flower garden ? Then this episode is for you. We're joined by Fionnuala Fallon, Irish Times garden writer and a flower farmer growing on brilliant soil in County Laois, to unpack what it actually takes to produce beautiful, seasonal wedding flowers without leaning on synthetic chemicals. We chat through the real foundations of sustainable flower farming: protecting soil health, keeping structure intact, and building fertility with local manures, straw mulches, and simple feeds like nettle tea. Fanula shares the practical decisions that helped her get beds established on a budget, including weed suppression and “little dig” cultivation when ground hasn't been worked for decades. If you love cut flowers and want stronger stems with better vase life, the soil section alone is worth a rewind. Then we get into propagation and seasonality for the Irish climate. You don't need a polytunnel to raise great seedlings, but you do need light, frost protection, and reliable peat-free seed compost. We also talk about the tight harvesting window for local flowers, how late frosts can hit, and why many growers balance homegrown stems with carefully chosen imports. Along the way we share favourite plants for a home cut flower garden, including hardy shrubs and perennials that are often overlooked, plus practical dahlias advice for wet winters. If you enjoy the chat, subscribe, share it with a fellow gardener, and leave a review so more people can find the show. Flower & Garden Festival Blooms at EPCOT Spring officially arrived at EPCOT as the Flower & Garden Festival opened across the park. Topiaries, gardens, and fresh seasonal color changed the atmosphere almost overnight. This annual shift always gives EPCOT new energy. After Festival of the Arts, Flower & Garden brings a brighter look and a different rhythm to the park. Hoppers Hits Theaters Disney and Pixar's Hoppers arrived in theaters, adding another big entertainment headline to the week. The release gives Disney fans something new to watch beyond the parks while also adding to the larger conversation around Disney animation and theatrical momentum. Winnie the Pooh Gets a Springtime Popcorn Bucket A new Springtime Winnie the Pooh popcorn bucket arrived to celebrate Winnie the Pooh's 100th birthday. The release added another collectible to the growing popcorn bucket lineup and gave fans one more seasonal item to hunt down in the parks. A Muppet Tribute Appears in the Parks A new Muppet Easter egg display appeared as a tribute to The Muppet Show. For longtime fans, it was another welcome reminder that the Muppets still matter inside Disney parks, even in smaller details. The display also fit naturally into the ongoing conversation Sam and Greg have been having about Muppet visibility, nostalgia, and what still resonates with fans. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Transformation Begins With the attraction now closed, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster has officially started its transformation. That shift marks the end of one era and the beginning of another at Disney's Hollywood Studios. For fans who squeezed in one last ride before the closure, the project now becomes one to watch closely. Cinderella Castle Work Continues At Magic Kingdom, Cinderella Castle continues its latest round of visible work. Even routine updates at the park icon tend to draw attention, and this one is no different. As always, any changes to Cinderella Castle become part of the bigger visual story at Walt Disney World. Mario Galaxy Popcorn Buckets Are Coming Outside Disney, Greg kept tracking the growing popcorn bucket trend. This time, attention turned to Mario Galaxy popcorn buckets heading to theaters everywhere. That expanding collectible culture shows no signs of slowing down, whether the release is tied to Disney, another studio, or a major new film. Disney Animated Movie Madness Begins The first round of Disney Animated Movie Madness is officially underway. With 64 Walt Disney Animation Studios films going head-to-head, the tournament adds a fun fan-driven layer to the week's Disney conversation. [caption id="attachment_80492" align="aligncenter" width="1047"] 2026 Disney Madness Attraction Madness This Week at Walt Disney World[/caption] As voting begins, the bracket gives Disney fans a new way to debate favorites, rediscover classics, and rally behind the films that matter most to them. Live from EPCOT After Hours For this special Thursday night edition of This Week at Walt Disney World, Sam and Greg went live from EPCOT After Hours. The plan was simple: explore the park at night, check the crowds, and answer one big question. Is EPCOT After Hours worth it? The night did not go exactly as planned. Even so, the live show still delivered a real look at what the event feels like once the park clears out and the lights come up. Flower & Garden Topiaries Shine at Night One of the best surprises of the night was seeing the Flower & Garden topiaries fully in place during the evening. EPCOT always changes character after dark, and the festival displays gave the park extra color and atmosphere. This setting made the event feel different from a normal park day. Instead of rushing from booth to booth, the experience leaned more into mood, space, and the chance to enjoy EPCOT in a calmer environment. Luminous in the Background Luminous: The Symphony of Us was part of the nighttime backdrop during the live show, but Sam and Greg did not stop to watch it as part of the event review. Instead, it served as atmosphere while they moved through EPCOT and focused on testing the event itself. Two Attractions, Live and After Dark The night did not unfold exactly the way Sam and Greg expected. However, they still managed to ride two attractions live during the show: Living with the Land Frozen Ever After That gave viewers a real-time look at what the event could offer. It also showed how the park feels when major attractions are experienced after dark and with lighter crowds. How Long Are the Lines? The biggest question heading into the show was all about wait times. If guests buy a ticket for EPCOT After Hours, they want to know whether the event actually delivers on shorter lines. Based on what Sam and Greg experienced, the answer depends on what kind of night you want. If your goal is to ride as much as possible, the event absolutely makes sense. Lower crowds and the chance to move quickly from one attraction to the next can make the extra ticket cost worthwhile. On the other hand, guests looking for a more relaxed event with a lot of extras may weigh the value differently. EPCOT After Hours works best when the priority is attractions. Is EPCOT After Hours Worth It? In the end, the answer is yes — if you are focused on riding as much as possible. That is where the value shows up. The event gives guests a cleaner shot at shorter waits, a more open park, and the chance to experience EPCOT in a different rhythm than a normal day visit. Even though the night did not go perfectly, it still showed exactly why After Hours can work for the right guest. All That and More with Sam & Greg Live Join Sam and Greg each week for This Week at Walt Disney World LIVE, where park updates, live experiences, and fan conversation come together.

In this episode of The Best Dam Podcast, Jill is joined by author Magon Peuker, who shares her incredible journey of escaping an abusive marriage, navigating life as a special needs parent, and finding her voice to write the bestselling children's book, Raylin's Flower Garden. Her story is a powerful testament to the strength of a mother, the healing power of positive change, and the necessity of kindness.Magon's book's core message is about kindness and the acceptance of kids who look and are different. It's a way of creating a lasting legacy for her daughter, Raylin, and sends a powerful message that there is a person inside who wants to be heard and loved.DISCUSSIONThe Journey to a Brighter Life: Magon is a mom of three girls, including 15-year-old McKayla and 13-year-old Raylin. Raylin has a rare genetic mutation called MYLK, which has caused seven strokes, making her nonverbal and wheelchair-bound. Magon fled an abusive marriage in California after a traumatic night, moving to Nevada three years ago for safety and a better life with her children. She found her "rock" in her current husband in Nevada, and the family is now complete with their one-and-a-half-year-old baby girl.A Legacy of Kindness: Magon initially began writing an autobiography about her traumatic life experiences, but the heavy topics led her to put it aside. After an incident where Raylin came home from school with bruises, Magon felt compelled to "turn this bad situation into something good". She wrote the children's book, Raylin's Flower Garden, in just two days. What Magon thought would be a small project for friends and family has become a bestselling book that led to speaking engagements and podcast appearances. The Voice of a Warrior Daughter: Magon discussed the unique role her older daughter, McKayla, was forced into due to Raylin's complex medical needs and the family's trauma. McKayla grew up learning independence and maturity early. Now, three years later, McKayla told her mother that moving was "the best decision you ever made," which brought Magon immense comfort.Finding the Aha Moment: Magon shared that her biggest aha moment was realizing her potential and being where she is now—in Boulder City with a supportive husband, healthy kids, and a completed family. She feels like she has "made it in life" and knows things are "only gonna go up from here".From Writing from the Heart to More Books: Magon describes her writing as coming from a vulnerable, "real and raw" state, presenting her work as if she is speaking to the reader. She hopes to eventually finish her autobiography to share her full story. She also revealed that there are more books to come in the "Raylin series".A Missed Opportunity and a Family Talent: Magon revealed that she was chosen to be on The Voice in 2011, but tragedy struck two days before her audition when her 19-year-old brother passed away in a car accident. She loves to sing and is encouraging McKayla, who is a great singer, to pursue her talent. Magon's first job was working in the food industry at the San Diego Wild Animal Park.LEARN MORETo learn more about Magon Peuker and Raylin's Flower Garden, visit www.magonpeuker.com. As you will find out during today's show, I have one of the authors I have worked with, Magon Peuker, on the show today! Magon and I began working on marketing her book earlier this year, maybe April or May 2025. When I first met Magon, I was so excited to work with her because this was the first book my partner, Hope Mueller, of Hunter Street Press and I were publishing! Also, the book, Raelynn's Flower Garden, is so beautiful. I must give a shoutout to Olivia Deckard, the illustrator on this book. It's just lovely! The book's message is also appropriate for children and adults alike. It boils down to this: be kind and respectful to others because you never know what someone else is facing. So, if they look different than you or have a different life experience, show them care and love. Again, be kind to those you encounter in this world.

One day, while waiting outside her daughter's weaving class, Gabi van Tassell became fascinated with an old-fashioned quilt. The Grandmother's Flower Garden pattern combines groups of paper-pieced hexagons, and Gabi found herself wondering how she could weave the shapes. An active and curious crafter, she had explored a variety of fiber crafts, though she wasn't yet a weaver. She experimented with different approaches to the pin loom, eventually realizing that she needed a combination of plain and bias weaving in the same piece. Once she developed the method, she faced the challenge of making the looms. When she realized that she would need to build the looms herself, she decided to patent the idea while developing her manufacturing process. Although establishing her business was challenging, she knew that weavers would love the little turtle-shaped looms. Turtle Looms have the can't-weave-just-one appeal of any pin loom, but the geometry of hexagons (and Gabi's newer trapezoid and five-sided Jewel looms) offer a variety of design choices. In addition to making Turtle Looms, Gabi began designing projects to show the variety of projects to be made from hexagons. To her delight, weavers have adopted the looms and even create designs Gabi herself hadn't dreamed of. Bruno Maciel is the third generation managing his family's flower farm, Florista Lina Farm in Barcelos, Portugal. We hear how his experience working in the flower industry around Europe has guided the changes he is making to the farm, including adding greenhouse production, doing more winter production, dropping unprofitable crops and focusing on quality over quantity. Farmers in North America can learn a lot from Bruno and his data-driven approach to flower farming, and will probably recognize more similarities than differences between flower growing on the west side of the Atlantic and the east.Bruno also explains how he has used biofumigation with mustards to control soilborne diseases that had been devastating in the past. This method has the advantage not only of controlling diseases without chemicals, but also feeds the soil with organic matter as the mustards are mowed and tilled into the soil to release the biofumigants. For all the details, you can read the article Bruno wrote for the May Growing for Market Magazine, Improving soil quality and treating root pathogens with biofumigation here.Connect With Guest:Instagram: @floristalinafarmFacebook: @Florista-LinaRead the article Bruno wrote for the May Growing for Market Magazine, Improving soil quality and treating root pathogens with biofumigation here. In Episode 330, Q&A - Gail from Orangevale, CA wants to start a vegetable and flower garden in her backyard, which is currently covered in Bermuda grass. Debbie Flower, America's Favorite Retired College Horticulture professor, and I suggest waiting a year and using soil solarization to kill off the Bermudagrass. We also recommend starting small with container gardening and using organic mulch to keep the soil soft. We discuss the challenges of dealing with Bermudagrass and the benefits of soil solarization. For the next question, from David in Arizona, Master Gardener and vegetable expert Gail Pothour touches on David's question about the use of black plastic mulch on the soil (not usually recommended for home gardeners), and comments on David's suggestion of using hydrogen peroxide as a treatment for early blight on tomatoes (Nope.
