Subscribe with iTunes - https://apple.co/1MQQ5me Subscribe with RSS - https://imahousegangster.libsyn.com/ As a DJ in the early nineties Chris’ obsession with music led to gigs at some of the early techno raves, held illegally in warehouses around Paris. In these formative years he not only asserted his diversity, flowing effortlessly between techno, drum n bass, hip-hop turntablism and house, but he also invested a large amount of time and energy in collecting an equally electric range of music. His dedication to the art of DJing provided Carrier with a superlative skillset and the ability to adapt to a wide range of genres and environments, whether it’s a vinyl-only set in an intimate club setting or a live set at the legendary Rex or Weather festival. Besides his long list of high quality releases, and a myriad of influential labels (Adult Only, Chronobrain, Combustible, Taka, X86 and Sound Carrier, plus the more minimal-focused Adult Only Shape) that he has set up over the years, Chris’ recent achievements include albums on Apollonia – ‘Lotus Seven’ with Hector Moralez’ – and the solo LP ‘True Step Locomotion’ on Slapfunk, together with a seemingly endless flow of new music pouring out of his Paris studio. Driven by an unrelenting pursuit to continue producing music of all genres and to carry on exploring the realms of his own musical imagination, Chris Carrier is an unstoppable force and undoubtedly a legend in his own lifetime. https://www.imahousegangster.com https://www.facebook.com/imahousegangster https://www.instagram.com/imahousegangster https://www.twitter.com/imhousegangster

Tapesh has been around the block and then some. Growing up in clubs owned by his father and having interest in all types of musical genres has made the multicultural German a true fanatic when it comes to play and produce music. I always want my music and mixes to be funky and a bit crazy, I think you can hear this back in this Gangstercast.” He went on to say “You jus know when you attend a Sneak gig or I’m a House Gangster party that you will only hear real house music. There are no compromises and I have a lot of respect for that. Last summer I was asked with whom I would love to collaborate in the studio. I had to choose a DJ from the whole ANTS @ Ushuaia line-up for the summer of 2015. Sneak was my definite choice. Episode 82 of the Gangstercast series is brought to us by Kosta. 'Brought up in a classy neighborhood somewhere in Romania's communist outbacks, he developed a taste for meaningful music, playing a melange of feelings and rhythms. Assembling sets ranging from leftfield and jazzy stuff, nu disco and downtempo joints all the way to the top shelf of afro, tech and proper house business. Eclectic by choice, he finds inspiration in this array of genres, while inviting the listener to a full on musical journey. Self taught, this one's always there to get the public, though imposing the rhythm with a fine selection of music. He's pretty much gonna make you dance, either he's warming up for international elite guests in native Romania, or making you wonder what musical background does he come from with his main sets. Always tonic music wise, he's assuming the role of the entertainer, not the one who's taking you on the backroads of house music. Being one of the most active promoters in the house business for the past decade in Bucharest, he runs this select fiesta label: AWD House. Episode 81 of the Gangstercast series is brought to us by Dennes Deen. Some call it classically trained. Others call it old school. Many call it the only way: Dennes Deen earned his stripes as a real DJ. Not as a DJ/producer. Not as a producer who has to play gigs to pay for his studio. Not because his management told him to. Dennes is a DJ. A deeply passionate one, who’s been hustling for 20 years. One of Austria’s most in-demand DJs with a schedule that takes him around the world, Dennes – who beat 40,000 hopefuls to become a Burn Studios finalist in 2012 – has developed a large repertoire of releases to date on respected imprints such as Schönbrunner Perlen, LevelNONzero, Alchemy and DJ Sneak’s eminent beat brand I’m A House Gangster... A serious moment in any artist’s career, this is one especially significant for him, as Sneak’s ‘Keep On Groovin’’ was the first record Dennes bought as a DJ all those years ago. Subscribe with iTunes - https://apple.co/1MQQ5meSubscribe with RSS - https://imahousegangster.libsyn.com/ When we sat down with Dennes Deen we asked how this mix represents him as an artist and he said, "the mix is kind of a retrospective view over my resent sets. I love to play various, eclectic sets, because I find it pretty boring to play the same sound for hours. Thats why the mix consists of various subgenres - but in the end of the days I just want to play tunes with that certain 'groove'. No matter what genre ist is. Thats just me." He went on to explain, "The 'House Gangster' movement is not just a hype for me. It's a philosophy. A way of living. Some people live Kung-Fu, others would die for Rock'n'Roll, 'I'm a House Gangster' is the way I live since 20 years." https://www.imahousegangster.comhttps://www.facebook.com/imahousegangsterhttps://www.instagram.com/imahousegangsterhttps://www.twitter.com/imhousegangster

He is one of those rare, charisma-oozing characters, whose musical and mental eccentricity come from a genuine place. He’s never afraid to take a risk to reach new ground. This episode of The Gangstercast is orchestrated by Deron, who is the Managing Director at Paradise Distribution, and Label Manager for Dirtybird. This is what he had to say... “When I started buying records in 1996, I lived in Portland, OR, and it was primarily breakbeat and progressive house in the stores. While I enjoyed (trying) to match beats, I wasn’t fully passionate about the music I was finding. A buddy from LA came to visit one day and had Doc Martin’s ’Unlock Your Mind’ CD. The very first song was the Cevin Fisher ‘The Way We Used To” acapella, and then DJ Sneak's “Latin Seoul” comes in. With the first bounce of those beats, I knew that was the type of music I’ve been trying to find, and the quest began. Those specific Sneak beats I heard were literally the spark that inspired my 20 year passion for House music, which has become my full time career. While I kept on the hunt for anything that sounded like the type of House music I heard that day (with several Sneak records in the bag), it was a couple years before I actually got to see Sneak play live, and it was exactly what I expected—funky, deep, tech, vocals, long mixes, nothing pre-planned …. and never letting up from the first record. Subscribe with iTunes - https://apple.co/1MQQ5meSubscribe with RSS - https://imahousegangster.libsyn.com/ This mix I did for the Gangstercast is based on those bits of inspiration I got from Sneak 20 years ago. Funky, deep, tech, vocals, long mixes, nothing pre-planned …. and never letting up from the first record. As the world tends to come full circle, here it is two decades later and not only have we become good friends, but I also work with him and his team to distribute his music to the world. Hopefully to light many more sparks." https://www.imahousegangster.comhttps://www.facebook.com/imahousegangsterhttps://www.instagram.com/imahousegangsterhttps://www.twitter.com/imhousegangster

Episode 72 of the Gangstercast is a live recording from Output Club in Brooklyn, orchestrated by the US house duo Cocodrills. Christian "Pridef" Diaz and Adam Cruz pride themselves on creating a unique musical experience, which can only be just that; experienced. But make sure to leave your pretense at the door 'cause you won't find any bullshit at one of their parties; only funky grooves, positive vibes and rampant debauchery. When speaking to the guys we asked what house music means to them, they answered “sick beats, positive vibes and just a general way of life”. They went on to say ‘The House Gangster movement is beyond just music and more of a state of mind. It's about how you carry yourself and your overall taste in things”. Whilst the duo had a broad idea of what style of music they wanted to include in the mix, “ultimately everything is chosen on the fly”. “A big THANK YOU to Sneak and Melissa for giving us the opportunity to showcase our sound. RESPECT!” – Cocodrills

Darius Syrossian, his style, attitude and passion can be summed up with three words ‘TRUE, HOUSE, MUSIC’. Darius has always worked with these three words at the forefront of his mind, and reflects these principles through his music, music that never wavers from his devotion to the groove. He is one of the core artists of Steve Lawler’s Viva family and has ticked off every major club and festival in an extensive touring schedule; his production skills have lead him to acclaim with labels such Area Remote, 8 Bit and Monique Musique. Darius’ sets have always had a Balearic edge, often playing heavy techno alongside really low slung deeper tracks. But no matter what, all his sets have the main emphasis focussing on the groove, these themes are very obvious throughout Gangstercast 70. Darius and ‘I’M A HOUSE GANGSTER’ are a perfect combination, both parties prioritise real house music, no fad nonsense, a timeless sound. “House Gangster sound is the sound of real House music that will never sound out of date and will always be relevant." - Darius Syrossian Speaking to Darius his passion for his craft and his love of house music is obvious, not many other DJ’s show as much commitment and dedication to the genre in its purest form. “House music is EVERYTHING to me, it’s more than just a genre of electronic music, it’s my passion ,I eat & breathe it!” - Darius Syrossian
Mark Farina is a DJ and producer, known for his Chicago house, acid jazz and downtempo works and recently known also from house compilations, El Divinio. He is primarily identified with the house music scene in San Francisco, California, where he resides, but DJs widely around the world. Gangstercast 69 bings Farina’s usual or unusual variety of underground chunky funky goodness to new listeners and old heads alike. For the mix he’s selected some goodies from his arsenal of new underground jammies with just a vibe in mind to fit this Gangstercast. For Farina the House Gangster movement mean is about capturing the spirit of the days when there were true gangsters listening to house in chicago in the late eighties, a certain rawness, toughness, trackyness and attitude that combines into certain style of house. “White, latino, black...the only sound of the underground in the streets was house music”

Gangstercast 67 comes from the NYC legend Todd Terry. Grammy Award nominated DJ/Producer Todd Terry has been engulfed in dance music since he first started listening to European dance music records while growing up in Brooklyn. More than any other producer, Todd Terry defined New York house during the '80s, his sound is a varied sampladelic collection, blending the sounds of classic disco, the more introspective Chicago sound plus plenty of hip-hop attitude. Much of Terry's early work, in the late 1980s, is considered a milestone in the development of both progressive and modern deep house, and with two of the most respected crossover remixes of the house era ("I'll House You" by the Jungle Brothers and "Missing" by Everything but the Girl), Terry more than earned his title "Todd the God" . Terry’s success has followed him through the years and today Todd is one of the world’s most celebrated figures in dance music. With almost Threedecades of dance floor domination under Todd’s belt the quality of his productions goes from strength to strength Terry produced the mix for Gangstercast 67 earlier this summer , he believes it to be one of his best old school/new school productions. He’s picked the tracks that he always play out in my live sets as they represent the best type of dance floor records, whether they’re are old or new. Terry likes to play as he puts it; ‘the best of both worlds’ meaning to play songs as well as hard tracks. With Terry the House Gangster movement is all about the music , the raw swingy beats and good funky music. “Right now house music is good to me, we had a big surge out of the past 3-4 years right before that I think we had some issues on what was house and not house so I am really happy where it has ended up” – Todd Terry
Gangstercast 66 comes from the up and coming Claud Santo, who throws down a selection of bangers from the I'M A HOUSE GANGSTER back catalogue.
Gangstercast 65 comes from the highly regarded New York based DJ/producer ‘DBow’ Danny “DBow” Bowman has been a feature on the New York City House scene since the early 90’s and has played alongside some of the figureheads of House music. DBow has worked with a number of labels through the years including Farris Wheel Recordings, Good For You Records and Beatdown Music. Recently DBow has been creating remix’s for Todd Terry and his In-House Record Label, and continues to play in clubs all over NYC including the Verboten, as well as all across the US. You might know DBow from his banger “Get Involved” that came out in the early 2000’s on Beatdown Music. The song was backed by the legendary Frankie Knuckles, who’s remix received huge commercial success on a global scale. We asked DBow how this mix represents him as an artist, to which he responded; “Well iv been listening to this music from a really young age so the old school vibe of this mix def represents a lot of what inspired me and what I was listening to growing up” He drives home the idea that house music is alive, well and growing from explaining what the House Gangster movement mean to him; “House Music... Low Riders... For the ladies....Party for a Living ...Just Blaze ... Always Keep hustling, Keep Grinding, Keep it real, and Keep it House. DBow describes the House gangster sound as “a versatile mix of House on the Tougher side from Deep to Jackin to Tec with some Disco and hip hop flavours added in”. DBow exudes passion and excitement for his craft and describes House music as his life. “It’s my life really, its basically my Friend, My Wife, and my Therapist”. Finally when telling us how he chose the tracks for this mix he described is process as slightly random, usually picking the first 2 tracks and taking it from there, just going off the vibe of what’s playing.
Filsonik has a history deeply rooted in the iconic world of New York club music and evolved as a DJ / producer out of a rich NYC house community. Born and raised in the Lower East Side, he grew up on hip hop, latin disco, and reggae music. He was schooled from age seven as a classical pianist and as such his influences are both street and formal. His childhood neighbors were John Mateo and Eddie Matos, producers on one of the UK’s foremost deep house labels Glasgow Underground and Joe Claussell’s Spiritual Life Music. His first experience of house music was with them in the early 90’s when they asked him to play sessions keys on one of their early tracks. His career as a producer and DJ took off in 2006 under the umbrella of New York’s veteran house DJ, Timmy Regisford of Club Shelter, a legendary weekly soulful / deep house event that ran for fifteen years. Filsonik’s signature drum programming sound which is quintessentially Latin, rhythmic but yet low-fi appears on many Regisford tracks of that period. Co-productions on Shelter’s label Unrestricted Tracks and Restricted Tracks with Regisford including “Can U” (Unrestricted Access Records), “Basic Track” (Restricted Access Records) and “Movement” (Restricted Tracks Records) set the bar for gritty, underground New York deep house of the mid 2000’s. His remix of Alicia Key’s “POW” (Restricted Access Records) crystalized the sound of New York vocal house circa the mid 2000’s. He also saw the fruits of his labor appear on Osunlade’s Yoruba Records with Nadirah Shakoor “Love Song Part One” (Bahsonik Remix) (Yoruba Records) which was a collaborative effort with the English jazzy house producer Bah Samba. In 2009 Argy signed the track “Diva Jaguar” for his Berlin based label These Days label and re-released the by now NYC deep house classic “Can U” as a special Argy edit. Shortly thereafter, Argy picked up a second release from Filsonik which landed on his “These Beats” compilation featuring original productions by the likes of Radio Slave and Jerome Sydenham. As a DJ, his warmups for Regisford’s mammoth 12 hour after hours sets at the club established his name within the international house community as one of the key players in the New York house scene. In 2006 he joined Dennis Ferrer’s Objektivity crew for a momentous day at New York’s MOMA PS1 series, an outdoors event widely captured on You Tube that also helped launch the careers of his close friends The Martinez Brothers. He has since participated in many Objektivity events as the official opener of the night. Circo Loco, DC10, Ibiza 2011 marked a strong comeback for New York’s Filsonik after a few quiet years spent in the environs of his home town. As a close artistic collaborator of fellow NYC Puerto Rican artists, The Martinez Brothers, he spent three months filming and traveling with the boys throughout Europe in the summer of that year. Along with The Martinez Brothers, Filsonik played two times at Circo Loco at DC10 in summer 2011 and went on to do a 2012 residency in Ibiza with additional appearances at their worldwide events. 2014 was a big year for Filsonik with releases on Jamie Jones’ Hot Creations Label with “Dogfish” as well as the summer Ibiza anthem Larosa “Something Strange” (Filsonik Remix) (Not Bad). He has tracks slated for release on both Tuskegee and Cuttin’ Headz. Filsonik is currently building the catalogue of his own label Gran Manzana with his close friend Patrick Grooves. He plays frequently alone and with The Martinez Brothers at venues and events such as BPM Festival (Mexico), Space, Miami (USA), Output, New York (USA), ReSolute, New York (USA), Spy Bar (Chicago), Stereo, Montreal (Canada), Showcase (Paris), The Arches (Glasgow), Circo Loco (Ibiza). Filsonik sums up what house music means to him in just one word ‘DANCE’ music Asking Filsonik what the House Gangster movement means to him; “The HG movement is completely refreshing deeply rooted in my opinion from the north part of the world and has been felt worldwide. The movement has been organic and special to see the succession and growth of it and now being a part of it just makes it that much more epic to see its development.” Filsonik describes the House Gangster sound as “in simple terms to me is like a great plate of sneak's food delicious..The main course is raw and dirty with a side of sexiness.” We asked Filsonik to tell us how this mix represents him as an artist, to which he replied; “This mix represents a nice variety of my favorite artists who I'm currently supporting there sound.” Finally he gives us a little special mention about this mix; “There's a few special pieces in the mix to look out for like for example look out for some new heat from my boys Harvard Bass, Bas Ibelini,Jesse Callosso to say the least got some Bomba's coming out this Summer of 2015.”
Following his 3rd release on IAHG titled ‘True Definition’ that came out just two weeks ago, the hugely popular Belgium-based DJ/Producer Ramon Tapia, returns to the Gangstercast series this week for episode 63. With tinges of his Latin background lacing his percussion sections and his Dutch/Belgian heritage providing the basis for his hard-grooving Techno template, his sound is one that mixes organic, tribal rhythm and syncopation and electronic machinations to potent effect. Ramon first joined I’m A House Gangster in 2013 with his ‘Intense EP’, followed by the massive ‘House Assignment Vol.1’ in 2014, and after providing us with one of the early episodes of the Gangstercast at the start of the series two years ago, we felt the time was right to bring back Ramon, as one of our biggest IAHG players for a second Gangstercast mix. Prepare to hear all 3 original tracks from his latest EP ‘True Definition’ featured within this mix! Ramon describes the House Gangster sound as “Boom tchack Tsss Tsss and hey Hooooo Heyyy hooo,”and describing his own IAHG sound as a “jacking, grooving, family affair!” In Ramon's words, the House Gangster movement is all about "one love, one family" and we can't argue with that!
Episode 62 of the Gangstercast comes from HORATIO, who is a romanian guy blessed with ambition and a great passion for music, which begun his underground musical adventure into the world with great productions , edits and mixing at the parties. Producing, DJ'ing, and running his own record labels, HORATIO is a seasoned connoisseur of getting us to move our bodies. Active since the 90's, the romanian producer/dj has kept his finger on the pulse of dance music strongly pinned and shown a distinct blend of stylistic fusions. Recalling sounds that attract listeners worldwide Horatio's releases have been housed by important labels like Viva Music , Desolat , Circus Recordings , Rawthentic , Bouq and Stereo Production . Horatio proves once again that Romania is a fertile ground for djs and producers and deserves his place within these imprints known for their techno / tech house and house specialties with an added organic swirl. His talent helped him to be quickly spotted by the famous label VIVa Music. After releasing two highly succesful EPs : Sing with Swing and Ramayana (with his partners SINC) he sought to get to new heights. Propelled by his succes Horatio and his partner in crime Katoline were chosen to remix one of the best tracks from Riva Starr – ‘I was drunk’ , this making him highly popular. His hard work in the musical production paid off since his remix for Jindo - Summer Stories was played and supported by Ricardo Villalobos and his remix for Alessio Collina - Conmigo was heavily played by Richie Hawtin in his sets. The year 2011 proved that Horatio has begun his international ascension . His EP ‘Chicago Tales’ being charted and played by Heidi on BBC Radio1. His latest EP called Mi Nombre (which includes a collaboration with guiness book dj Tavo and Horatio's long time musical partner Katoline) is remixed by none other then Reboot, thus tacking his name to a new height. Horatio was nominated for the best new artist and in 2010 the highest ascension in romanian underground scene. His gigs are marked by that original sound that you can hear only on a big DJ set with a beautiful mixing technique and high energetic tracks. When we caught up with Him, Horatio told us that he is an oldschool vinyl collector, and so creating this Gangstercast was a great opportunity for him to dig deep into his collection, in compiling the tracks for this mix. Horatio describes the House Gangster sound as “A great mixture of oldschool and newschool. Jackin’ grooves, soul grooves, fatgrooves, and basically any type of track that has the right raw feeling.” Asking him to describe how this mix represents him as an artist, he told us; “I think it represents exactly the vibe that I got by listening to DJ Sneak and the rest of the crew in Ibiza. A special blend of oldschool sound with swirling hooks and a lot of soul.” For Horatio, the House Gangster movement is “all about the ‘attitude, the proper respect that you have to give your fellow DJs/producers and people who are listening to your stuff.” Voicing his strong opinion on this, he states; “No fake hype, no sh*t, just real thing. It represents what’s truly real, and how truly should be the scene, especially the DJs and producers nowadays.” Finally Horatio gives us a little special mention about this mix; “I tried to enter in that House Gangster spirit. I think I am very close to it due to my karate training and true feeling. Much like karate, House gangsta spirit is all about straight forward truth, no bullshits, no lies, no fake stuff. All truth and nothing but the truth for myself and for the Romanian scene I represent.”
Gangstercast 61 comes from Toronto-based House and Techno legend Carlo Lio. Some artists are content earning the label of “overnight sensation,” while others patiently rely on hard work, dedication, and perseverance to earn the title of “everlasting sensation.” The latter is unquestionably the case for enigmatic Toronto native producer/DJ, Carlo Lio. Originally known for leading the pack of prodigiously talented Toronto producers, Carlo has utilized his trademark cosmic house and techno sound to cement his status among today’s prodigiously talented world-renowned producers. For proof, look no further than his remix of the‘Diablo’ track on Cocoon Recordings. One of the greatest rewards an artist can receive is to be recognized by his musical heroes, and an even greater honor occurs when those heroes ask you to remix for them. Such was the case for Carlo when Dubfire and Oliver Huntemann approached him to remix ‘Diablo’. Without hesitation, Carlo accepted this project and the resulting track not only topped the charts, but it manifested Carlo’s personal dreams in a single shot. Ever since, Carlo’s discography has exploded, with his music catching the eyes and ears of some of the biggest labels in the market – SCI+TEC, Bedrock Records, MOOD, Desolat, Suara, Intec Digital, and Mindshake Records just to name a few. And in the coming months, Lio will be releasing remixes and collaboration projects for Mathew Dear (aka Audion), DJ Sneak, Paul Ritch, Carl Cox, and Nicole Moudaber. As talented as Carlo is in the studio, his deep pulsing tech-house and shaggy techno beats are even more powerful with captivating dancers in clubs and festivals around the globe. With home bases in both Toronto and Barcelona, Lio effortlessly maintains the life of a superstar DJ, continuously roaming the planet for new dance floors to conquer. This year alone has Carlo billed on some of the world’s biggest events, including BPM Festival (Mexico), Digital Dreams (Canada), Audiogate (Germany), Balaton Sound (Hungary), Barrakud (Croatia), Les Plages Electroniques (France) and Music On (Ibiza). Having no intentions of slowing down from this pace anytime soon, rest assured Carlo Lio is at the top of his game, routed straight into the international limelight with a lifetime of accolades ahead. We asked Carlo to explain to us how this mix represents him as an artist to which he replied; “Well it def shows that I'm not just a techno head. Its very easy to be labeled in this game. So this mix gave me a chance to show a bit of my roots. Touch up on some funk & Grooves.” We caught up with Carlo himself give us a lil insight about this mix….. Carlo describes the House Gangster sound as; “Very organic”. He says; “A ton of soul and personality and brings out the joy in people as music should.” House music means everything to Carlo. “Without house, there is no you or me. I owe my life to house.” Asking him in particular what the ‘house gangster movement’ meant to him, he stated; “Its about Never forgetting your roots. Its about staying to true to who you are as an artist / person and innovator!” Telling us how he chose the tracks in compiling this mix for us, Carlo states; “Having a chance to do a 2 hour mix, i def went across the board. So i def got in some new joints but also dug back a bit and added some older favs of mine.”
Following on from his second release titled 'This Ain't No Rave' on I'm A House Gangster 2 weeks ago, Miami badboy Jesse Perez returns to the Gangstercast for episode 60. This is Jesse's 2nd mix for the gangstercast series. Sneak is the only one who has ever done 2 mixes, but Jesse is one of our few absolute favourites who we wanted to hear more music from. Following his 2nd release on the IAHG label with 'This ain't no rave' earlier this month, we felt the timing was right to bring him back for another episode. We asked Jesse; "What does the House Gangster movement mean to you?" "Its the last of the Mohicans. A movement of those who still do things because their passionate about it. Nothing short of that," says Jesse. Asking Jesse to describe the House Gangster sound, he replies with; "It's hard to describe it in one way. I think there are many different interpretations of it. Mine is "if it don't make that ass shake,it aint gangster". House music to Jesse simply means; "Independence in every way possible. "
Bay-Area bred DJ Mes (a.k.a. Jason Sutton) rarely slows his groove. Since the 2004 inception of his Oakland-based label, Guesthouse Music, Mes has produced a prolific catalogue of tracks that continue to scorch dance floors from east coast to west coast and across the world. As a DJ, his sets have inspired; as a producer, his tracks have shot up the charts. His mix of disco beats with bass-heavy rhythms keep him at the forefront of the underground house sound.Mes’ career dates back to the mid-1990s, when the future producer took early influence from the likes of DJ Dan (Funky Techno Tribe) and Tony Hewitt (Tango Recordings). Some two decades later, DJ Dan would even join the talent ranks of Guesthouse Music. Guesthouse has become a personal and creative labour of love for Mes, inspired by the underground house community he came from. While Mes continued releasing tracks on acclaimed labels such as Black Cherry, Magnetic and Flapjack, it was Guesthouse that set the pace. Celebrating it's 10th year last year, Guesthouse Music has put out over 300 releases since it's start, and to celebrate, Mes and crew threw ‘10 Years of Guesthouse parties’ all year long including special shows at SXSW and WMC.Mes’ ear for talent led to the unveiling of some of the most successful names in underground house, including breakout artists of 2011, J Paul Getto, who scaled the charts of Traxsource with “Need More Music” and “3000” Boundary-bending producers, such as Gramphonedzie, and classic acts, such as Cosy Creatures, DJ Sneak and The Sound Republic, exploded onto the scene under Mes’ own A&R moxie. Even while he introduced new DJs and producers to audiences, he continued creating and building his massive repertoire of banging funk-filled tracks!Traxsource honoured Mes with the top spot on a list of 100 best house tracks of 2011 following the release of the bumpy Chicago-sound behind “Fools Gold” (Cajual Recordings). In that same year, Mes followed up his seminal “Fools Gold” release (Cajual Recordings) with a second EP, “Town Business.” “Love Affair,” a rework of First Choice’s classic “Love Thang,” climbed the underground charts alongside a remix of Two Ton’s of Fun classic, “I Got the Feeling.” He continuously hit the Top 100 on both Traxsource and Beatport with other releases like "Boom Chika Boom" as well as with collaborations like "No Jet Lag" and "Wanna Do" with Sonny Fodera, "How We Do" and "Do the Freak" with Rescue, "The Bump" with DJ Dan and "Nu Grooves" with Giom.Even while maintaining a regular touring schedule throughout the U.S. and Europe, Mes continues partnering with the some of the scene’s most lauded producers, such as DJ Sneak and his own greatest influence, DJ Dan.Adds Mes: “I’m always working to sign new or undiscovered music and talent to the label, and maybe even throw a curve ball to startle people with a new, unexpected style or sound. That’s what it’s all about.”Bass. Beats. Funk. That's what Mes is all about! We, at I'm A House Gangster, took some time to talk to him briefly in regards to his special Gangstercast mix for us.... We asked Mes to explain to us how this mix represented him as an artist. He told us, “This mix showcases my diverse range and love for House Music from funky to deep to tech and jackin all together in one mix.” The House Gangster movement to Mes is “all about the music and family.” He describes the House Gangster sound as “No frills, no fuss and definitely no derp! Just funky music to get you moving on the dance floor.” House music appears to mean everything to Mes, when we asked him what it meant, to which he replied, “House Music is life. Life is music.” Asking Mes how he chose the tracks in compiling this mix, he answered, “I wanted to show broad range and not just do one sound. I tried to blend everything from funky to deep to tech and jackin.” “Thanks for Listening, I hope you dig it” adds Mes
Gangstercast 58 comes from French house DJ/producer ‘Giom’ ‘Funky, eclectic, quirky, smooth, melodic, yet always bumpy with a solid groove…’ It’s not easy trying to define the sound that Giom has created for himself over the years but when you attend one of his energetic DJ sets, sample one of his many remixes or dance to one of his chart-topping #1 singles, the message becomes clear: Giom is here to make you move your feet. And maybe that’s why the London-based Frenchman’s music has been supported by such an impressive list of the world’s best DJs, from the underground kings to the big room soldiers, from Fedde Le Grand to DJ Sneak, Green Velvet to Joey Negro, David Vendetta to Jimpster, Mark Knight to Grant Nelson, Sharam Jey to Kolombo, it seems everybody needs a bit of the Giom sound in their DJ sets. In the Summer of 2014, his song “Dr. Zapp" topped the Beatport Indie / NuDisco Top 100 and to this day still remains in the Top 50. And at the end of 2014, Giom was Beatport’s 25th most downloaded Nu Disco artist and was voted Traxsource’s 29th most important Deep House artist of the year. Giom has worked, released, toured and collaborated with the likes of Riva Starr, Joey Negro, Fred Everything, Loulou Records, Toolroom and Defected Records. He has also headlined some of the world’s best clubs such as Fabric (London), Privilege (Ibiza), LIV (Buenos Aires), 360 (Dubai) and has performed in over 30 countries. Away from house music, Giom’s preferred spot is behind the drum kit, which has seen him touring and recording for the likes of Alice Russell, The Nextmen and Kasabian. Asking Giom how this mix represented him as an artist, he commented; “This mix is old school, mixed with new school, vinyl and digital, sexy, funky, silly, French and quite laid back. Like me!” Giom describes the House Gangster sound as “an urban/ghetto/attitude take on the sound we all love” When we asked Giom, What does House music mean to you? He replied with, “House music is something I can't explain, it's a feeling, a hypnotic groove, it's a movement. I mean, even bad house music makes me want to dance, that's how much I love it.” Telling us how he compiled this mix, he says, “I chose tracks that reminded of how I felt when I used to listen to DJ Sneak many years ago, but also some that represent me today and try to showcase who I am and what I'm about.”
Justin Harris has been active as a DJ since 1987 and has been producing since 1994 in collaboration with Luke Solomon and under the names Robotic Movement, Free soul (with Diesel) and Oliloqui for labels like Classic (Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter), Phono, 20/20 Vision, and SSR. Justin Harris’ illustrious musical career kicked off way back in 1987 when he was a regular DJ at the first pioneering Acid House events in the UK. He later went on to become one half of the DJ partnership North & South (with Nigel Casey, House of 909), who were infamous on the Warehouse and free party / DiY circuit throughout the UK and Europe in the early 90's… a blur follows of free parties, thrills, pills, and belly laughs..read on.. Upon moving to London in 1993, Justin turned his technical dexterity to the studio and began making some of the most innovative and left-field house music around. Seventeen years ago, he teamed up with Luke Solomon to create the ground breaking Freaks project. Freaks have over 80 productions under their belt, including remixes for artists such as Revlon9, Matthew Herbert, The Good Books, Kassabian, Soft Cell, The Human League, Derrick Carter, Greenskeepers, Tiefschwarz and Damon Albarn to name a few… and have themselves recorded for such esteemed labels as Perlon, Wally's Groove World, Classic, Playhouse, International Deejay Gigolo, Silver Network, Rebirth Records, Hot Creations, Crosstown Rebels and of course the legendary Music For Freaks (MFF) and Classic Recordings. We asked Justin what House music means to him, to which he responded; “Don't want to sound cheesy but for me It's a lifestyle..... Not an hour goes past in any one day where it doesn't play some kind of a part in my life... It's quite simply all encompassing. House Music picked me up more than 25 years ago in the middle of what was a deep recession in the UK , it strapped me in and took me and a generation on a journey that is still going strong. I have literally devoted my working (and most of my social) life to House Music. What it has given me back far outweighs anything I could ever put in to it.” Justin describes the House Gangster sound as; “Bumping, jacking and absolutely taking no prisoners..... I've known Sneak and his sound since the mid 90's when I first met him in Chicago (at Derrick Carter's place with Luke Solomon after a mad night of partying) and I've hung out and heard him play many times since .. his music always was about 'that' sound and it's great to see it get the recognition and respect it deserves.” Justin continues to go onto say; “To me this movement means a solid and tight global crew. Whether producers, DJ's, artists, promoters, house music lovers, party heads, hustlers, record labels (and the list goes on).... We are all united by a love of House Music and therefore part of the same family.........in short it's all about the music.” Asking Justin how he compiled his mix, he says; “I just imagined myself at one of your parties, took a bunch of records and CD's to select from that I would (and in the future will) play there and went for it.... had a great time doing it too.” Explaining how it represents him as an artist, he tells us; As an artist this mix represents my interpretation and understanding of the House Gangster sound and the vibe I get from it. It has tracks in it that date back more than 20 years as well as some pretty amazing new music with loads in between. I'd say it's a pretty good cross section of what moves me and has influenced my taste over the years.” Finally, giving a special mention about this mix, Justin comments, “I'm totally stoked to be asked to do it... There are so many of my musical heroes who have supplied a Gangstercast and it's dope to be part of this movement.” Justin has also included in his Gangstercast mix, his very own ‘Random Jazz’ – the title track of his EP , his debut release on the I’m A House Gangster imprint, on 13th April. Gangstercast 56 comes from Brillstein. Mike Brillstein, known to many as Thee Mike B, has been a kingpin in the LA club scene since the late 90s, and over a decade later his respect for the underground and others’ respect for him has not dwindled. Having worked with names like Jesse Rose, Switch, Diplo, and Oliver, it’s no surprise that Mike has a deep understanding of house and the underground. The recent success of his work with Jesse Rose on “Shuffle The Paper” and “Good Wife” solidified Mike’s place in the underground house world, and with that, Brillstein was born. To draw a line in the sand between Thee Mike B and Brillstein was something that allowed a sense of artistic freedom from both sides: Thee Mike B as one of Los Angeles’ best DJs and Brillstein as a producer who got his chops in chunky productions on the Play It Down imprint from Jesse Rose. Brillstein has recently received radio play support from Skream on his residency show. He has also played at Hard Summer last year alongside the likes of Axwell, Martinez Brothers, Dusky, and Josh Wink. We asked Brillstein How this mix represents him as an artist, to which he explained; “Everything I do as Brillstein is a tribute to the House Music that first spoke to me in the mid 90s: Daft Punk, DJ Sneak, Armand Van Helden, Roger S, Junior Sanchez, Paul Johnson, Roy Davis Jr, Cajmere, Pepe Braddock… It’s a long list. This stuff was not meant for fashion shows and hair salons. It was funky, bassy, loopy tracks. Not unlike hip-hop, so it spoke to my sensebilities. I’m capturing that classic flavor while putting my own modern, even post-modern touch on it. Basically, old school vibes without sounding dated. There’s lots of classics in there sitting comfortably besides the brand new stuff.” Asking Brillstein what the House Gangster movement means to him, he replies; “I think House Gangster is the perfect name for Sneak’s label. Because it describes everything that drew me to his sounds. It’s house music. But the beats, samples, vibes, all of it just has that head nodding, blunted, funky vibe. Whether you're in the cold city streets or in Ibiza, a House Gangster can create that feeling. And it always hits you in the chest no matter where you’re at… Cuz it’s GANGSTA!” Brillstein describes the House Gangster sound as “Dope, banging, funky tracks for the green bush smokers, girls wearing chokers, bling bling playaz and exotic dancers … It’s that funky rhythm, that they can’t control. That perfect House Music vibe.” We asked him ‘What does House music mean to you?’ to which he replied; “Dancing until you’re falling asleep in the club. The vibes, the family, the warehouse. If you get it… you can't escape it.” Telling us how he chose the tracks for this mix, Brillstein says; “Initially I wanted to recreate my NYE set that wasn’t recorded. So I tried to remember as much as I could from that, in addition to showcasing some new material (a few unreleased ones in there) and also dropping lots of other favourites both new and old.” Finally, Brillstein gives a little special mention about this mix; “I had just got back from a night out with Junior Sanchez and Todd Terry, they were playing at Avalon in Hollywood. I had so much fun and was inspired. I was scrolling twitter at 6am LA time, when I saw Sneak tweeting about checking out the latest Gangstercasts. Since the inception of the series I’ve followed it closely and had been waiting patiently for my invite. I was feeling bold so I tweeted at Sneak “When’s my turn?” He replied “make one man” or something like that. Never being one to back down from a dare, I replied, “I’ll make it right now live, you’ll have it in 2 hours as proof.” So I recorded it live in my studio in one take, while my homegirl Ashley was nice enough to dance and hang out and cheer me on. Then I uploaded the file to Sneak 2 hours later without even listening back! Now that’s House Gangster!”

Ahead of his forthcoming release “Past 2 Future” on ‘I’m A House Gangster’, next month, Gangstercast 54 comes from Demuir. Demuir's eclectic house sound exudes funky, sexy, and soulful beats that is consistently recognized and sought by artists and house fans around the world. His DJ and production career has propelled him into a range of various house based genres (Jacking / Funky House, Techno, Tech-House), which has led to his music being featured on many respectable labels including: Great Lakes Audio (GLA), IAHG (I Am A House Gangster), DNH, Fogbank, Farris Wheel, and Doin' Work to name a few quickly gaining recognition and support in the global UDM (Underground Dance Music) scene. He even extends broadly and dabbles in Hip Hop and Samba as an extension of his musicianship playing a wide range of live instruments as well. Demuir has received international nods and receiving play from DJ elites including Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Nick Holder, DJ Sneak, Doc Martin, J. Paul Getto, and Darius Syrossian. Today, Demuir continues to gain respect for his unique funky / soulful house sounds with his latest EP, "Closer 2 U" (on Mark Farina's Great Lakes Audio label) with previous and consistent successes from other releases, that are regularly charted and supported by DJs worlwide. HIs focus continues to touch the world with his brand of house music and broadening his presence as a DJ and Producer internationally. House music to Demuir means “openness, truth, and good vibes.” He explains, “It doesn't matter what part of the world or city you're in. When you go to a party that is reppin' house music, it is always centered in the love of the music and its' people. It doesn't matter what social status you have, the music and the community welcome you with open arms each and every time.” The House Gangster movement, to Demuir, “represents a place of redefining and pushing boundaries while holding your own in the roots of house music.” He went onto say, “I, too, remember those days when electro and progressive ruled the clubs, festivals, and big rooms with only a few guys remaining true to the roots of house. The House Gangster always serves as a reminder to those who "jump ship" and beg for commercialism or doing things just because "everybody is doing" - that the underground house movement is here and lives on.” When we asked Demuir to describe the House Gangster sound, he said “It's just real house music. By comparison to some of the stuff I hear in the broader House music genre, I would have to say the House Gangster sound welcomes true innovation and a sound that people's souls can connect to.” Telling us how he chose the tracks in compiling this gangstercast mix, Demuir says “I went for tracks that supported the listener on a journey from funky jackin' beats to an organic, but twisted, tech house sound. I also chose tracks that were truthful in their genre, but brought something different to the table” We asked Demuir to tell us how this mix represents him as an artist, to which he explained; “This mix is a peak into my versatility. I produce House, Jackin', Afro-House, Tech House, and Hip Hop instrumentals in addition to being a musician. I refuse to be held to one genre and my catalogue speaks to this point. This mix, in particular, takes you from Jackin' beats to Tech House, which is something I feel needs to be represented more because the 2 genres speak intimately to one another in their percussion, samples, and swing as they redefine their respective House and Techno ancestors.” Finally, We asked Demuir if there was anything special to mention about this mix, To which he stated; “The mix includes "The Cheerleader", which is one of the tracks from my IAHG release, "Past 2 Future" EP. It's jackin' to its hard core roots of samples, big beats, and edgy vocal samples people can connect with.”
Gangstercast 53 comes from Toronto-based DJ/producer ‘Nitin’. Nitin has worn many hats in dance music. Promoter, Label Owner, Record storeowner, producer but first and foremost, a DJ. Beginning his career in London, Ontario, Canada, he was one of the founding fathers of the electronic music scene in the city. If you lived in the London Ontario area between the years of 1994 & 2005, you would have heard the mixes, stepped foot in the events, and listened to the music that Nitin enlightened the city with. Nitin’s love affair with music began at an early age. His initial musical spectrum included Hip Hop, early Electro and New Wave. It wasn’t long before the radio waves of Detroit caught his ears; and he was hooked. It was clear that Techno & Tech House was the platform, and a direction was chosen. It wasn’t long before he also became (now long time) friends with another London Ontario native, John Acquaviva, who opened him up to a plethora of music and knowledge. In 2005 Nitin made the decision to migrate to Canada’s musical hub, Toronto, where he joined the newly launched Gem Events team, and began to hypnotize the city with an onslaught of tailored events ranging from underground warehouse & afterhours parties, all-sized nightclub events, up to 10,000 plus concerts & festivals across the Americas. Nitin’s DJ career has spanned over 15 years having played from Coast to Coast across Canada, down to Ultra Music Festival, WMC, Miami, and The BPM Festival in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and across the oceans to the UK. Along with festivals, Nitins enjoyed the privilege of spinning at a few notable venues including BLK|Markett in Brooklyn and the Standard Rooftop in LA. Playing alongside many of the world’s Top DJ’s, Nitin regularly shares the decks with the likes of M.A.ND.Y, Damian Lazarus, Jamie Jones, Audiofly, Art Department, Tale of Us, Dennis Ferrer, to name a few. Being referred to as “One of the most technically gifted DJ’s around” it’s evident that Nitin is here to stay. Fast forward to now, and Nitin has built a respected name for himself. He’s a player in the recent explosion of Toronto artists on the word stage. In 2008 launched the well-respected No.19 Music with Label Partners Jonny White. Already the label has released originals and remixes from Legends DJ Sneak, Stacey Pullen, Justin Drake, Osunlade, Maceo Plex, Art Department, Jamie Jones, Soul Clap, and many more. The No.19 brand has played a significant role in the formation of a new wave of dance music and their masters. To Nitin, As a Dj , the house gangster movement “means playing real underground house music - anything deep, tech-y, soulful, or jackin fits the brand in my opinion.” We asked Nitin what House music meant to him, to which he replied; “It’s my passion and my job. I feel very fortunate to be doing this. I can't imagine my life without it.” In telling us how he chose the tracks in compiling this mix, he says “Lots of digging before the gig with some new and unreleased stuff for good measure. I never plan sets but I definitely found some jams to play that I hadn't played in a while.” This mix in which Nitin provides us with for Gangstercast 53 was recorded live in Ibiza at the Underground club, our closing party featuring Tuccillo, Nitin, and Sneak playing back to back with Martinez Brothers; for what was an incredible night! When asked how this mix represents him as an artist, Nitin explains, “This is a good cross section of the music I like to play in a set. A mix between new and old house and techno. Definitely more on the house-y side on this mix.” Nitin gives a final special mention about this mix, saying “I was very honoured when Sneak asked me to play his closing party at Ibiza Underground. The vibe was really raw all night. It was definitely one of the highlights of last summer.”
Gangstercast 52 comes from UK artist Junia. Junia, born & raised in Yorkshire UK has been DJing for 17 Years taking in gigs at some of the most noteworthy clubs in the UK such as Hard Times, Back to Basics & The Ministry of Sound. As Junia moved into production more International gigs & residencies followed with dates throughout the USA & Europe furthering Junia’s notoriety on the underground house scene, allowing collaborations and releases with more recognised House Pioneers of the likes of DJ Pierre, K Alexi, & Victor Simonelli. More recently Junia has released his latest music offerings on DJ Sneaks ‘Magnetic Recordings’ with DJ Support from heavyweights Doc Martin, DJ Sneak & Mark Farina to name but few and has also had music used by leading global brand Pioneer as part of their '20 Years of DJing" advertisements. Also Junia’s remix skills have been requested by Gramaphodzie on his Disko Zoo label and underground house label ‘Doin work Records’ who have also recently released a further Junia EP entitled “The Awaited Ep” out now! Talking about this mix and how it represents him as an artist, Junia says “This is a live recording in a club so is the real thing as far as experiencing what I do in a set, I am all about texture and contrast while DJing, I don’t like to lose intensity with the music. I’m definitely not a simple one track after the other type of DJ and this mix demonstrates that. We've got old & new music but I put it together in my style with edits and incorporate live remixing along the way but using the music as it was made, none of this push button pads stuff that does it for you now, I’m old school like that – it’s like turntablism just with house music, I like to call it "audiolism". When asked to describe the house gangster sound and what the House Gangster movement means to him, he replied; “Musically it’s a "Come test us" attitude, show us what you've got! I’ve always been about that anyway.” We asked Junia to tell us about how he choose the tracks and compiled this mix, to which he explains; “This is a club mix so the tracks choose themselves. Mixing them is the easy part but choosing the right tracks to compliment each other in the mix and create energy that could not be sparked otherwise is the thrill for me. There isn’t enough DJ's that do this - you have to spark something in the music you’re playing that the crowd couldn’t feel just by listening to the originals at home or by twisting the effects knob on the mixer, Guys should be having to come over and peer through into the booth just to see what it is that’s goin on when a DJ spins, not just mundane mixing outro into intro!”
