Paco Osuna's record label, Mindshake presents a collaborative three-track tech house EP with scorching hot grooves by Chinonegro and Andre Butano. This is the second time that Andre Butano has collaborated with Chinonegro, as the pair recently teamed up to drop an EP via 8Bit. ▬ Andre Butano is a Chilean artist who is back on Mindshake after featuring original music on the imprint in 2021. That release was made alongside Aldo Cadiz, and he regularly teams up with others, including collaborations with people ranging from Mendo to Miguel Lobo. His upbeat style has flowing percussion underpinned by rolling basslines, and his music has been released on prestigious record labels including the likes of Relief, Desolat and Circus Recordings. Chinonegro is a Peruvian artist who knows exactly how to work a dance floor into a frenzy after spending many years as an international resident of Club Room Chile. He has translated that knowledge of how to captivate a dance floor into his productions, which have been release by labels such as Elrow Music and Kaluki Musik. Chinonegro's music has also found heavyweight support by DJs ranging from The Martinez Brothers to wAFF. ▬ “Party & People” closes out the release with it's wonky bassline and sleezy vocals that combine to deliver a hedonistic groove ►► follow : @mindshakerecords - @andrebutano @chinonegromusica

He also runs his own imprint called Duff Music, and this release showcases his trademark style, which combines upbeat and organic percussion with infectious basslines. Originally from Columbia, but currently living in Malaga (Spain), Julian Collazos' music captures the humid climates of his surroundings, and translates them into heat on the dancefloor. Not only is he a successful producer, but he is also a skilled DJ who has dazzled dancefloors across South America and Europe. ▬ “Asi, Salsa” closes the release with jazzy piano bursts layered over an organic percussion loop, which lays a foundation for the tracks' hypnotic groove. ►► follow : @mindshakerecords - @julian-collazos

One of the most charming DJs in the business. A musical ambassador and a veteran of acid house, a champion of techno, a dance music pioneer, label owner, King of Ibiza – you name it, Carl's been there and done it, never losing sight of his passions – playing music, breaking tunes and celebrating life. **TRACKLIST** * How It Makes You Feel (Original Mix) - Carl Cox, Nicole Moudaber * Speed Trials On Acid (feat. Dan Diamond) [LF SYSTEM Remix] (Extended Mix) - Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Dan Diamond * Get What You Paid 4 (Marco Bailey Remix) * Inferno (Original Mix) - Carl Cox, Reinier Zonneveld, Christopher Coe * Nexus (Foamo Remix) * Nocturnal (Original Mix) - Carl Cox, Christopher Coe, Cox and Coe * The Player (Onionz Remix) * The Latin Theme Feat. Remix) * Sand, Moon & Stars (Eats Everything Remix) * I Want You (Forever) (Tribute Mix) * PURE (Brennen Grey Remix) * Moroccan Chant (Rory Marshall Remix) It was at the age of 15 that Carl bought a set of turntables and began working as a mobile DJ. Disco was the first music that captivated him but by the early 80s Cox had moved on to playing the same music as other young London DJs – rare groove, New York hip-hop and electro. He was perfectly placed to hear Chicago house music in its earliest forms, and when the epic ‘Acid Trax' by Phuture (a.k.a. DJ Pierre) came out in early '87. “It was then that I thought, ‘This is it,' says Carl. “I would do my parties, and I'd play old rare groove and hip hop and soul and I would say ‘Right you've got to hear this Phuture track' and people would just stop and listen.” As a founder of the sound, Carl rode the exploding British rave scene. He played the opening night of Danny Rampling's legendary Shoom, co-promoted The Project with Paul Oakenfold, where he also DJ'd and did the sound system. He held a residency at the Zap Club in Brighton and at the Sunrise rave in 1988, hooked up a third turntable for his dawn-breaking set, got 15,000 people back on their feet, and established a personal rep for three-deck wizardry. The next step was to make music, and Carl's 1991 debut single for Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto label, ‘I Want You,' reached Number 23 in the national UK charts and gave Carl his first Top of the Pops appearance. Two more singles also made the charts. But Carl was a reluctant pop star and as the masses moved onto fluffy house and trance, and the hardcore created jungle, Cox retreated into the club world that had nurtured him, and instead embraced the underground sounds of techno. “Techno drives home somewhere,” he says of his core music. “It takes you to an element of surprise, not knowing where you're going. It's scary but wonderful at the same time.” Carl's classic releases include his 1995 mix CD, ‘F.A.C.T,‘ which became a techno benchmark, selling over 250,000 copies, and the 1996 EP ‘Two Paintings and a Drum,‘ which again broke the British top 30. Alongside Carl's ‘Ultimate Music Management' company, which counted Josh Wink and Laurent Garnier among 27 clients, there was the Ultimatum record label, for which Carl recorded his third top 30 UK single, ‘Sensual Sophis-ti-cat.' In 2005, Carl's third album, ‘The Second Sign' caused a stir across Europe and reached number 3 in Spain's national chart. Also gaining critical acclaim was ‘Dirty Bass,' a collaboration with Christian Smith, and the funky ‘Give Me Your Love', both released on 23rd Century Records, an outlet for his own burgeoning production output. Carl formed his own label, Intec Records, in 1999, scoring a series of underground hits and enjoying eight years at the forefront of electronic music. After its closure in 2006, Carl was still inundated with new music, finally deciding to re-launch the label as Intec Digital in 2010, and it's been a triumphant return, thanks to exclusives from some of the biggest names in techno. Intec Digital was also the home for Carl's 6th studio album, ‘All Roads Lead To the Dancefloor,' released to critical acclaim in 2011. In 2013 Carl re-launched his seminal Pure Intec series, nine years after the hugely successful original ‘Pure Intec.' Pure Intec 3 followed in 2016 and this year sees the release of the 4th installment in the series – Pure Intec 4. “I've always been about nurturing artists and supporting new talent,” says Carl. “Sometimes a release gets missed, or overlooked. Pure Intec is a great way to collate the best of our output and celebrate it.” And of course Carl's name cannot be mentioned without Ibiza. His legendary Ibiza residency at Space came to an end in 2016, after an unbelievable 15 consecutive years. Since 2001 Carl helped establish Space as one of the biggest clubs in the world. With carefully thought out line ups, and as much emphasis on new talent as big names, Carl always strived to keep his night at the forefront of Ibiza clubbing making it one of the most successful residencies in Ibiza history. Starting out in 2001 with just 6 nights, his residency grew and adapted as the club did, so for Carl it was only right to end his residency as Space itself closed its doors. And what a way to go out. Carl's final 15 week season was his biggest ever, with every single night selling out, heralded by fans and critics alike as a triumphant finale to a piece of dance history. In summer 2018 Carl caused huge excitement, when it was announced he had joined forces with Space's founder Pepe Rosello, general manager Juan Arenas and Ibiza promoter Dave Browning and that together they were working on bringing back the legendary club to Ibiza. “Space club Ibiza has always been my home for the last 20 years,” said Carl. “To pave the new way for the future of Space is really exciting, and now forming a partnership with Pepe, Juan, and Dave Browning to run the newly-formed team, it feels solid in the way that we are a family team, and I feel we can bring everything back to where it belongs.” Those plans are still very much under way, although Carl admits their hands are tied currently in terms of opening a new club on the island. “There's a protocol in place beyond our control, but we still 100% want to do it and I'm confident it will happen. Until then we're concentrating on keeping the Space flag flying with some great events across the world.” These include an upcoming Steel Yard London Carl Cox Presents Space Ibiza, a special Space stage at Tomorrowland and various Studio 338 parties, with more Space events being planned. Ibiza is still priority for Carl, where he has returned to play every summer since Space's closure, carefully picking and choosing which nights he'll play. He now has his roaming club series ‘One Night Stand' which returns in summer 2019 with two nights at DC-10 and he's enjoying being back at Privilege Ibiza, as part of Resistance, acting as curator and headliner for another four parties this year. On top of that he'll be joining Nic Fanciulli for two nights at Ushuaia and playing Pacha's closing party with Marco Carola. In my early days of playing Ibiza it wasn't alien for me to play all the clubs,” says Carl. “I had the opportunity to do my own night at Space and define my sound in one club. It's now nice to be able to share the love with some of the other clubs.” Carl continues to be one of most in demand DJs in the world, with countless club dates and festival appearances every year. After 12 years delivering his Carl Cox & Friends stage at Ultra, Carl is now proud to be ambassador for the Resistance parties, for Ultra worldwide. He also now has his own concept party Pure – started with Richie McNeill and Eric Powell, and which turns five this year. Built on the idea of taking things back to basics, Carl put the music first and foremost for some no nonsense, no frills techno parties, which grows by the year, with this year's Pure events being the biggest to date. “Pure is my thing. I've nurtured it from day one, striving to bring the best purveyors of techno together to deliver it in its purest form, and it works.” On top of the Australian events, Carl has taken Pure to Ibiza and the UK, with further Pure events planned for New York, Montreal and Prague. Carl became an official partner of Babylon festival in Australia in 2018, a role he continued this year, helping curate the lineup, the event's ethos, and jumping onboard as Babylon's headline act. Carl also has a long history with Burning Man, having performed at the annual event in Black Rock City since 2008. Carl started his Playground camp as a way to celebrate all that Burning Man is and as a way to give back to a culture that he loves. It started small and most who landed in the camp that first year were those just passing by to get someplace else, but the music and vibe pulled them in. From that humble start it has steadily grown over the years and in a very organic way because the energy, music and people are what makes Playground so special. On top of all this Carl has also found the time to launch another label, Awesome Soundwave (ASW) with label partner, Christopher Coe, AKA Digital Primate. Launched in May 2018, the label is geared towards artists who make and perform their music live and has signed six artists so far. “My idea was to create a label where artists who can make and perform their music live, have a stable where they can be themselves and be able to create the music without any boundaries.” He is also still at the forefront of producing music himself. He now has his own state of the art studio in Australia which enables him to work production anytime he's not on the road. Carl's remix of Ninetoes ‘Finder,' went through the roof when released last year and he recently made his return to Circus Recordings for the menacing ‘Dark Alleys.' He's returned to the track that helped start it all back in 1987, remixing DJ Pierre's ‘Acid Track', for Pierre's upcoming 35 years of DJing celebration release. Elsewhere look out for Carl's masterful touch on remixes of Russell Small's ‘It Is What It Is,' Purple Disco Machine's ‘Body Funk' and a new mix of his own 2000 release ‘Dr Funk', out on Bush Records. And don't forget Carl's other major passion, his beloved motorsports. Having had a love of cars and motorbikes ever since he was a child, Carl has collected cars and bikes most of his life, with over 100 in his current collection. In 2013 Carl started Carl Cox Motorsport, which has quickly grown internationally with the incorporation of various teams and styles of motor racing. From the NZ & World road race Sidecar championships, The Ducati Tri-Options Cup in the UK, to the Post Classic motorcycles and V8 Drag racing in Australia, the teams continue to achieve amazing results with multiple lap records, race wins, championship placings and personal goals being reached. “To be able to utilize what I have learned from the marketing and brand side of my DJ career and to apply it to my passion for motor sport is a great thing. And it's already made a difference. I never thought the motor team would grow like this, it's been unbelievable. It's a huge passion for me and I'm dedicated to continue making it a success.” To those wondering how he finds the time for all of this, he says he's in his element, and just making the most of life and of the amazing opportunities he has. “There's still a lot more to come from me. There's still a lot more water in the well.”

Bontan first got into music at the ripe age of 16. He started booking gigs before he was even old enough to get into the clubs he was playing at and went on to start producing his own music. In 2013, his remix of Josh Butler's track 'Got a Feeling' became the biggest selling record on Beatport (a trend that later repeats itself). He's played some of the biggest festivals in Europe, released tracks on labels like Hot Creations, 20/20 Vision, Elrow, Circus Recordings and more. The accolades have continued to rack up for Bontan as he continues to innovate in the house music scene. I can't wait for him to share his story with you today!

HORATIO PREZINTA SECVENTE SONORE 68 SPECIAL GUEST SORIN SIMON About Horatio: Producing, DJ'ing, and running his own record labels, HORATIO is a seasoned connoisseur of getting us to move our bodies. Active since the 90's, the romanian producer/dj has kept his finger on the pulse of dance music strongly pinned and shown a distinct blend of stylistic fusions. Recalling sounds that attract listeners worldwide Horatio's releases have been housed by important labels like Viva Music , Desolat , Circus Recordings , Rawthentic , Bouq and Stereo Production . Horatio proves once again that Romania is a fertile ground for djs and producers and deserves his place within these imprints known for their techno / tech house and house specialties with an added organic swirl. About Sorin Simon:

Sorin Simon has always been attracted to music and it all started in his childhood home of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where he took piano lessons while still in school. The passion for music only grew as the years went by and as he started to go to different festivals, Sorin decided it was time for him to become a producer. So in 2006, he got himself some musical equipment and started learning the tricks all by himself.
That same year, he started playing music at some private parties for friends. Slowly, he was learning the craft and by the time he moved in Jersey, in the Channel Islands in the UK, he was ready for the big stuff. Soon enough, he was resident at one of the top clubs in the city.
Time went by and in 2017 Sorin moved definitively to London where he started playing different clubs all around the city. A year later, he signed to Vivus Records, an underground/independent and vinyl-only label from South Germany. Sorin has played at multiple festivals both in Romania and abroad such as Monegros Festival in Spain, Back To The Wild and Electric Castle in Romania.
As a producer, Sorin Simon's dark and trippy soundscapes are reminiscent of the Romanian underground scene and his first track, O dimineață târzie, remains an unreleased jam, that has nonetheless over 100k views on Youtube. Since then, he released two EPs – Ecouri Paralele at Other Thoughts Records and the track Fragmente on the VA03 released by Vivus Records. Sorin aims to give the public the same lovely feeling he has when he encounters quality music and his mesmerizing and deep microhouse does just that. His goal was never to be a people pleaser, but to please the right people.

Helping me Draw The Line this week it's May Lærke Vang Sybrandt aka MYLA who is from Greenland and is now based in Norway. She plays everything from techno / tech house to melodic techno and house. Episode 62 of the Gangstercast comes from HORATIO, who is a romanian guy blessed with ambition and a great passion for music, which begun his underground musical adventure into the world with great productions , edits and mixing at the parties. Producing, DJ'ing, and running his own record labels, HORATIO is a seasoned connoisseur of getting us to move our bodies. His talent helped him to be quickly spotted by the famous label VIVa Music. After releasing two highly succesful EPs : Sing with Swing and Ramayana (with his partners SINC) he sought to get to new heights. Propelled by his succes Horatio and his partner in crime Katoline were chosen to remix one of the best tracks from Riva Starr – ‘I was drunk’ , this making him highly popular. His hard work in the musical production paid off since his remix for Jindo - Summer Stories was played and supported by Ricardo Villalobos and his remix for Alessio Collina - Conmigo was heavily played by Richie Hawtin in his sets. The year 2011 proved that Horatio has begun his international ascension . His EP ‘Chicago Tales’ being charted and played by Heidi on BBC Radio1. His latest EP called Mi Nombre (which includes a collaboration with guiness book dj Tavo and Horatio's long time musical partner Katoline) is remixed by none other then Reboot, thus tacking his name to a new height. Horatio was nominated for the best new artist and in 2010 the highest ascension in romanian underground scene. His gigs are marked by that original sound that you can hear only on a big DJ set with a beautiful mixing technique and high energetic tracks. When we caught up with Him, Horatio told us that he is an oldschool vinyl collector, and so creating this Gangstercast was a great opportunity for him to dig deep into his collection, in compiling the tracks for this mix. Horatio describes the House Gangster sound as “A great mixture of oldschool and newschool. Jackin’ grooves, soul grooves, fatgrooves, and basically any type of track that has the right raw feeling.” Asking him to describe how this mix represents him as an artist, he told us; “I think it represents exactly the vibe that I got by listening to DJ Sneak and the rest of the crew in Ibiza. A special blend of oldschool sound with swirling hooks and a lot of soul.” For Horatio, the House Gangster movement is “all about the ‘attitude, the proper respect that you have to give your fellow DJs/producers and people who are listening to your stuff.” Voicing his strong opinion on this, he states; “No fake hype, no sh*t, just real thing. It represents what’s truly real, and how truly should be the scene, especially the DJs and producers nowadays.” Finally Horatio gives us a little special mention about this mix; “I tried to enter in that House Gangster spirit. I think I am very close to it due to my karate training and true feeling. Much like karate, House gangsta spirit is all about straight forward truth, no bullshits, no lies, no fake stuff. All truth and nothing but the truth for myself and for the Romanian scene I represent.”

Circus curator, international DJ and in-form producer Yousef continues to make a strong, well earned impression with both his Liverpool and now London Circus events; hosting huge events with both current and forward-thinking lineups and surpassing all expectations both in the studio and behind the decks. Yousef got his break after winning the Muzik Magazine’s Bedroom Bedlam competition many years ago, but it is because of this he has always been there to support new acts within the scene, and he has showed that this year with his bookings at Egg. But while 2014 might have seen Circus explore new ground, that doesn’t mean it’s lost, any of it’s heavyweight status as one of the best club nights in the country. Circus has grown into one of the most respected nights in the UK, growing a huge following in the process, with Yousef at the helm. His sets encapsulate everything he and Circus is about; not confined within boundaries, he's free to explore all sides of house and techno, from upbeat to down tempo, darkened house mixed with melody driven tracks, all the while keep the dancefloor in mind. We caught up with him after the massive Circus Weekender at Egg London which featured the likes of Laurent Garnier, Steve Lawler, Darius Syrossian and Noir. This mix was recorded at the massive Circus Weekender here at Egg London. How was it? It went off in true Circus style! Garnier and Lawler Friday and Syrossian and Noir Saturday, and myself playing both nights. Friday's event stood out for me playing wise,  beginning my set earlier than i usually do i had a chance to musically organise the tone for the entire evening. It was such a momentous weekend for both me as dj and for Circus and my label Circus Recordings in London, offering two world class line-ups for both nights and both events running pretty much at capacity.Circus is a massive thing now – what’s the ethos? The ethos behind the event in Liverpool and here now is the same thing – I just want people to listen to fresh new music and feel welcome, have a good time. It’s about the atmosphere and allowing people to feel safe in the space.Circus is originally from Liverpool – it’s booming here right now – why?I think we’ve always just loved getting down there – people always have – from northern soul in the 60’s, and the Beatles of course too – Liverpool in particular, has been rocking for a long, long time now.You brought Circus to London a couple of years ago – you chose Egg, it’s a second home for you – why?I’ll tell you exactly why. As a DJ I’ve pretty much been able to play every single club in London, but I felt when I came here, it was the only club in London that really made me let go and generally just the people really respond to the music in a really positive way. Generally, I found this club mirrors exactly what goes on in Liverpool. I’ve been here 18 months now, and every single time the events just go up and up and up and get better and better, but always in a really natural, organic positive way. Here we are, in 2014, and it’s just a roadblock nowadays. I’ve just always been really really happy with it here. How has the musical direction of Circus changed over the years?I think the musical ethos of Circus has always been really broad – we have real hardcore stuff sometimes, and then some techno, but there’s always 4/4 house at the centre of it. Like Gorgon City, they’ve been breaking through in Liverpool for a few years, and it’s great to have them. It’s always a cool thing to have a broad perspective, I think with me musically, even next month, we’ve got an incredibly broad mix. We don’t pigeonhole. We just have broad pallets. What have you got planned for the rest of 2014?From Circus, in Liverpool, there’s some massive nights coming up. It’s always moving forward. The label is going crazy, new releases by Reboot and myself,  and I’ve got stuff coming out on Desolat too. I just did a track for the Fifa world cup album too, which is bizarre. I recorded an entire samba band for it – it sounds like samba-techno, it’s weird.Do you have any proper plans for the label?Yeah – I’d love to turn it into a proper label – over time we’ve set it up to be really structured and organised. Hopefully it’ll go from just being the small piece of artwork it is on Beatport at the minute, to having a huge office we can function from. Who knows. I’ve got an exceeding amount of ambition for it – I never thought it’d get this far. -------------------------------------- You can catch Yousef at the next Circus on the 17th May, alongside the mighty Danny Tenaglia and Tom Flynn, here at Egg London.

Acid Mondays, the duo of Negghead and Lex Wolf known for their releases on 2020 Vision, Compost, Magnetic and Circus Recordings, bring us the 7th instalment of the Gangstercast.  The duo state they were formed somewhere in the 5th dimension and were brought together by their "love for fat beats, inter dimensional travel & cups of tea."  With more of those fat beats coming throughout 2013 for Sascha Dive’s Deep Vibes label, Illusion Recordings and Nilla, it's clear to see why they're picking up plays from Laurent Garnier, Tobi Neumann, Ricardo Villalobos, Dan Ghenacia, Yousef, Sebo K and DJ Sneak. So, onto their Gangstercast!  The hour-long mix includes Acid Mondays' latest productions and tracks from artists they have other links with.  The mix sums up exactly what the House Gangster sound means to them: "Fat beats, raw grooves that are designed for the dancefloor but never forgetting the party!"  It's clear House music is central to everything they do: "It is a source of life, a feeling, a reflection of time!" - a vibe we're most definitely down with.  While listening to the mix look out for the Acid Mondays remix of S-men which they regard as one of their all time best tracks and secret weapons, and a nice nod to House Gangster pioneer DJ Sneak on the last track.

The Terrace Podcast Welcomes this weeks guest : Yousef with a very groovy set recorded live from Space Ibiza in the Carl Cox (Revolution Party) The new decade sees Yousef consolidating his status as an international DJ, Producer, Club Promoter and Music aficionado with ever greater impact. Running one of Europe's premier clubnights co-exists alongside manning a record label of the same name, whilst his reputation as a DJ grows with increasing stature and a constantly escalating global calendar. His productions continue to leave an indelible imprint on the world; the release of second artist album ‘Indigo Child', the follow-up to 2009's impressive LP ‘A Collection of scars and situations', is scheduled for later on in 2011. A hugely expansive collection much like its predecessor, it marks a return to Circus Recordings after Yousef took a twelve month sabbatical to work exclusively with a select band of record labels, including Saved, Cocoon, Harthouse, and Monique Musique. The return will be kick-started with the release of one 8 track EPs entitled ‘Yousef's Circus Reworks'. The focus is simple; transformations of several productions with the Circus dancefloor specifically in mind, Jamie T, Fourtet, Giles Peterson, Moby and Sven Vath among the producers contributing material for Yousef to re-jig alongside his own peerless ‘Come Home'. Each track represents a certain time of the night or certain room; painting a personal musical projection of what Circus means to Yousef and an ideological snapshot of the clubnight's musical DNA. The event is quite the beast. Now in its ninth year, it's quickly moved from being the best night in Liverpool to one of the most talked about and well respected soirees on the continent, the flagship for the refurbished and Funktion One equipped Masque. The high profile nature has seen shows with Planet E, Bedrock, Meganite and Teutonic techno institution Cocoon, not to mention a superlative collaboration with the BBC for the 500th Essential Mix. Loco dice, Pete Tong Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath, Ricardo Vilalobos, Laurent Garnier, Luciano, Carl Craig, Adam Beyer, John Digweed, Davide Squillace, Raresh, Dennis Ferrer, Heidi, Nic Fanciulli, Tim Green and countless others have all played for Yousef and his party in the last 12 months. Many more are slanted for future shows in 2011 and beyond as it nears an unprecedented ten years of rave carnage. And Yousef continues to push further ground as a DJ. 2011 will see his second year as one of the residents at Carl Cox presents... at Space, arguably the internationally renowned nightclub's finest party of the season. A recent tour of South America saw a consolidation of his status as one of the premier foreign DJs for the continent (a debut at Warung Beach a particular highlight), and he remains a huge draw from the sun kissed shores of Melbourne to Miami to the sweat soaked basements of Manchester and Munich. One thing's for sure; Yousef will continue to leave a huge personal footprint upon electronic music both behind the scenes and behind the decks of the world's finest clubs, whilst creating the musical soundtracks that pulsate through their clubber's ears. He simply knows no other w www.theterracepodcast.com

Miami Sessions with DJ Yousef - M.U.M. Episode 153 - Miami Underground Movement The new decade sees Yousef consolidating his status as an international DJ, Producer, Club Promoter and Music aficionado with ever greater impact. Last year saw him achieve a first, the release of his debut artist album - A Collection of Scars & Situations’ finally laying down on wax a watermark of his effervescent personality. It showcased the different dynamics to his sound as a performer - heavy support from the usual rag tag ensemble of dance music greats; Sasha, Danny Tengalia, Nic Fanciulli, Carl Cox, Steve Lawler, Radio Slave and Nick Curly among them.  ‘A Collection of Scars & Situations’ was more than just your typical DJ led collection of bangers. They are catered for of course, most resplendently by the pulsating tech house monster ‘Legacy’ (bolstered by a superb archaic vocal from Derrick Carter) and the Beyer - esque ‘Equilibrium’. But it’s the haunting electronica of ‘Birthday Thoughts’ and ‘A Moment of Clarity’ that gave the album its gritty edge, two bleak almost dystopian efforts which channel the darker undercurrents of electronic music perfectly, DJs, clubbers and the Music media were universal in the praise.  “Legacy” was picked up for global single release by Renaissance. It garnered plays all over specialist dance radio worldwide (most notably John Digweed, Carl Cox and BBC Radio One’s Pete Tong), as well the coveted DMC single of the week; it was dubbed “one of the stand out tracks of 2009”. When Yousef was asked to contribute an essential mix from the world renowned Creamfields, he set about remaking the track into the ‘Terrace Edit’, taking the track into a newer and fresher direction (two further ep’s are set to drop for renaissance in 2010).  It continued the mutual love affair between Yousef and Germany, the hub of worldwide electronic music. He signed two new EP’s to Mannheim’s premier league label Plastic City, and after season long support from Sven Vath, “Come home” was released on the world’s most followed electronic music brand Cocoon. It blew up, cutting across the spectrum of house and techno, making ‘Essential new tune’ on Pete Tong’s Radio One show, with consistent support from John Digweed, Laurent Garnier and of course Vath himself. A certain dj names Sasha fell in love with the composition so much he asjked to remix it, which he has in fine style (out on cocoon in mid 2010). Yousef was then signed to Berlins’ leading DJ agency WILDE for his bookings in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, while he remains in the hands of Safehouse management for the rest of the world, also home to Carl Cox.  The international love has never been stronger for Yousef. The first international DJ to play the troubled nation of Syria. Ibiza, with its arcane hedonism and wild party ethos has always served as an adequate stomping ground for his cross genre grooves. And of course he’s back there this year... with a vengeance! South America has also shown a stronger allure for Yousef, with further ground being broken in Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil increasing his continental lustre. A recent 6 date tour on Indonesia showed how far yousefs reach is getting. Closer to home, he clocked up his first London Residency by inking a monthly deal at Matter, the brainchild of Fabric impresario Keith Reilly. Matter NYE saw another iconic Yousef DJ set, taking over from Vath at 2am for the inaugural Cocoon party and delivering a three hour onslaught of fierce and brutal house and techno to a 3500 capacity club.  In 2009 yousef remixed Dj Sneak, Fergie and Tobii to devastating effect. 2010 has already seen an earth-shattering remix of Moby’s ‘Wait for me’ completed, plus his touch gifted to Gilles Peterson’s Havana Band project and new kid “Teva” with yousef’s floor devastating circus rework of “you cant teach this”. He remixed two UK legends (X-Press 2’s ‘Say What’ and Fatboy Slim’s ‘Local Town’, the latter featuring rasp voiced rudeboy Jamie T), whilst Nic Fanciulli and his Saved Imprint continue to show their love, with the aforementioned album’s ‘I Suggest’ out now with the superb ‘Firecracker’ on the flip one of two 2010 ep’s for nic’s imprint. The other “my explanation / dis information” already championed by tong on his rather well known radio weekly as well as support from underground house dons Rebbot and Nick Curly among many others. Further Eps for renaissance and debuts on carl cox’s Intec and seminal (vath started) Harthouse records both follow this year… Of course with a follow up on cocoon too…  Yousef’s own Circus Recordings also notched up a year of releases since launching in 2008, churning out eight Yousef singles which have illustrated the madness and hedonism of the club he has created.  Yousefs monthly event celebrated seven years at the apex of Liverpool’s club scene in September last year and he is still pulling line-ups together that makes the accountants balk and the clubbers froth at the mouth. House music at its kaleidoscopic best, heavyweight names such as Laurent Garnier, Luciano, Loco Dice, Dubfire, and Eric Prydz have faced off with the of the young upstarts of the underground like; Jamie Jones, Tim Green, Sebo K and Davide Squillace have been amongst others for debut Liverpool shows. Oh and they got their thug on with Cocoon, bringing Vath and his imperial hedonism to Liverpool for the first time ever in a scintillating party that peaked on every sensory element. There’s little the club night hasn’t done or booked, and with this year already seeing return slots for John Digweed and Derrick Carter, plus debuts for Heidi, Guy Gerber and the irrepressible groove icon Ricardo Vilalobos, there’s seems little left for them to prove. So, just when things couldn’t peak any further for circus Radio One were looking for a club to host the 500th essential mix party. They considered every major club worldwide, circus was (in the words of radio one) the only choice…. Yousef and his long lasting partner Richard went to work, pulling in Richie Hawtin, Sasha, Aeroplane, of course Pete Tong and yousef himself. A 4 hour live global broadcast from circus in its original 1100 capacity club followed. Circus’ finest hour…? Maybe, we’ve thought that before.  It’s this process of constant evolution rather than reinvention which has characterised Yousef’s career, and kept him at the forefront of promoters’ thoughts across the globe. And there’s the small matter of him running the London marathon, raising cash for CALM and showcasing his serious edge to the party reputation he’s always encased. Record Label Owner and Internationally renowned club promoter, it’s a far cry from the excess which defined wilder youth, confirming his professionalism and dedication to the acid house dream.  Whether criss-crossing the globe with his arsenal of varied sounds or impregnating his own individual aural histrionics on wax, Yousef is stamping his identity on dance music and leaving a lasting impression. There’s few who come close in terms of dedication or in the variance of approach, Yousef hits each and every base with alarming regularity. And the best part yet? The journey has only just begun... it’s now a big cliché but, undeniably, but, 2010 really is Yousef’s year. www.yousef.co.uk
