It has become a cultural phenomenon in Colombia, beginning first in Bogota before branching out to Medellin, Cali, Lima (Peru) and now Cartagena...everyone knows all about Gringo Tuesdays. So, this week, coinciding with the launch of Gringo Tuesdays in Cartagena, we speak to co-founder Travis Crockett about how the business has grown, the differences in running events in each location, how they survived Covid and where they plan to expand to next...hint, two more overseas locations. This is a good news story about some entrepreneurs that took a punt on an idea and it worked, becoming one of the most unmissable nights for language exchange and then latin-style partying in Colombia. Tune in to hear about "bio pong," yes, you read that right, not "beer pong," but "bio pong," and other anecdotes from 13 years of running Gringo Tuesdays. We wish them all the best on this next venture in Cartagena. The Colombia Briefing is reported by Grace Brennan. https://www.gringotuesdays.co and support us https://www.patreon.com/colombiacalling

Meet Liberato Kani, a hip hop artist in Lima, Peru—or as he says, “the Andean Bronx”. At his concerts, a typical call and response you hear is "Quechua es resistencia": Quechua is resistance. Though Quechua is spoken by nearly ten million people, Peru's native language is at risk of dying off because of anti-indigenous prejudice. Liberato and other musicians like Renata Flores are here to save it—and restore a country's pride while they're at it. Want to talk more about the show? Share your favorite artist from this episode with host Saleem Reshamwala (@Kidethnic) on Twitter. This episode features music and interviews from Liberato Kani, Renata Flores, Kayfex, and Uchpa's guitarist and songwriter Marcos Maizel. Today's episode is special for many reasons, but I really wanted to share it today, on July 28th: Peru's Independence Day. On this very special day we're celebrating my beautiful home country and I couldn't think of a better time to share this Sobremesa episode recorded in Lima Peru, at Ofelia. This time we got together under the idea that all roads lead back to Lima. There is so much beauty in our heritage and now in transforming tradition, while still cherishing it, to create forward thinking designs, food, art that can be shared and admired globally. Every single person at this dinner is reshaping the way we represent Peru in their own way, and what our culture has to offer—I feel so honored to be able to share their stories so thank you to all the guests who came to this Sobremesa for opening up and for inspiring me, and hopefully others who listen to this episode.

GOOD EVENING: The show begins at the Federal Reserve, puzzling over what is to be done with the mixed to negative metrics from the US economy -- and the likelihood of a soft landing. We then move to campuses across the nation where spring festivities and final exams have been overshadowed by chanting -- sometimes antisemitic, and certainly less than well-informed. From there, we go to Gaza and the Sinai, and then to Lebanon, where the Hezbollah Army provokes the IDF each day. We visit Buenos Aires, Washington D.C., Panama City, Mexico City, and Caracas to discuss upcoming elections. Finally, we explore the situation in Peru and the challenge to China's bullying tactics using its financial influence. 1865 Lima Peru

Following these first contacts and instruction from the Elder Brothers and space teachers. He founded the “Rama Mission” and led it until the moment of its dissolution, in 1990, to avoid possible sectarianism. Sixto Paz claims to have gone up alone, or sometimes accompanied, on board the UFOs, having direct contact with its crew members, as well as having traveled with them on more than one occasion. And he has followed the route of the Cathars and the Templars all over Europe. In America he has traveled on foot and along rivers through the Amazon Basin, and the jungles of the Mosquitia in Honduras, and the Yucatán in Mexico. In order to prepare one of his books about the enigmatic Easter Island, he traveled 10 times to that remote place in Polynesia. "There's been a real reluctance on the part of operators to jump back in to some of these higher-cost opportunities. That's further constraining exploration and development of supply." In this episode, I'm in conversation with Howard Crosby, the Founder and CEO of LGX Energy Corporation. Howard and a partner acquired an oil company in Indiana and the acquisition included some 400 miles of 2D seismic data that had been shot some 15 years earlier, but never processed. By putting this old data through new tools, LGX was able to reveal oil plays that had been overlooked. The team then shot the highly prospective locations with 3D, which helped pinpoint more precise drilling locations. What was thought to be 15 possibilities turned into 50+. "Instead of stringing wires across farmer's cornfields to set up the geophones prior to making the recording, they're using wireless geophones that don't need to be strung together with the wire." Howard Crosby is the Founder and Chief Executive of LGX Energy Corporation. Howard was raised in the Pacific Northwest, and is a successful entrepreneur who has founded several companies over the years. With his background in finance and natural resources, Howard has over 40 years working with mining, gas and oil developments. "You look at the Lima Peru field where [Rockefeller] had the first 100 million barrel field in Allen County, Indiana. They recovered over 100 million barrels, but they estimate, because of poor technology in the 1890s and early 1900s, they left 100 million barrels behind, stranded."
