What if the discomfort you feel when trying to follow your food plan… isn't a problem to fix, but part of the process to embrace? In this episode, we talk about the real reason we get stuck in emotional eating, quitting, or “starting over”—and it's not because you're lazy or broken. It's because we're not used to making peace with discomfort. If you've ever thought: “This is too hard.” “Why can't I stay consistent?” “I just want this to be easier…” This episode is for you.

Do You Compare Yourself or Your Relationship to Others? 5 Surprising Ways to Stop Letting Comparison Steal Your Happiness

Do you compare your relationship to others? How can you identify and manage your triggers for comparison? Today, Jay introduces the concept of social comparison theory, explaining the differences between upward - where we compare ourselves to those we perceive as better off, can lead to feelings of inadequacy if done with envy rather than a mindset of learning, and downward comparisons which involves comparing ourselves to those worse off, which can provide a temporary boost in self-esteem but is ultimately unproductive and unkind. He shares practical strategies for reducing comparison, such as being mindful of social media usage, identifying personal triggers, and investing in self-improvement. Jay also stresses the importance of understanding the deeper, often hidden aspects of people's lives and why we usually compare our internal struggles with others' external successes, leading to a distorted and unfair self-assessment. In the episode, you'll learn: How to identify your goals How to set mutual goals How to be mindful of your triggers How to invest in self-improvement By seeking deeper connections and understanding the full context of others' lives, we can develop more empathy and reduce the impulse to compare and shift our focus from external comparisons to internal growth and relational strength, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and authentic life. Since 2016, Author Alisa Zipursky has been blogging about her experiences as a millennial woman trying to live a full life while healing from her abuse. As many of you know, I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and I am thrilled that Alisa is my first guest who has written a book about her healing. She wrote Healing Honestly: The Messy and Magnificent Path to Overcoming Self-Blame and Self-Shame to put a book out in the world that honestly addressed the balance of trauma recovery and living a happy life. Going out in the world and trying to be practical or rational about your abuse story to make others less uncomfortable is just b******t, and she takes that head on as an effort to show how it can ultimately combat shame. She is a beautiful writer and on today's show, we get deep into the balance of personal narrative and research in her book, as well as who connected with her when she first started the writing process online. When she got public in her survivorship, the first survivor who connected with her was from India, but she also heard from people in her social circle that they were affected by abuse. She realized it was all around her in this seemingly perfect community in Bethesda, Maryland. The truth is, we are all surrounded by survivors. We chat about:*Her grandmother was Alisa's biggest champion through the early process of her writing her blog (which eventually led to the book.)* How she at first felt that just body memories were not enough to be a legit survivor only to discover this was one of the biggest areas where people connected with her story.* When she shared about a niche experience in her process of facing abuse that she never thought anyone would connect with, that it was exactly what people needed to hear.As writers in recovery we are tasked with writing about what goes on inside us, even if we think we will be stigmatized as angry feminists as abuse survivors (which may be on some levels true, but not so binary). Our job is to show that it is not black and white thinking for healing where you are either thriving or victimized. We get to have many layers and stages of our recovery and it is ever changing. She offers practical strategies for survivors of sex abuse to support themselves in living full and vibrant lives. You can find Alisa at - Founder HealingHonestly.comAuthor of Healing Honestly: The Messy and Magnificent Path to Overcoming Self-Blame and Self-Shame (June) pre-order now!If you enjoyed this show, may we suggest other episodes you may like with Book Client/Authors of Kim's? Book client Joy McManigal has led a varied life from owning a pub in Ireland, working in the movie business, facing bankruptcy, and raising four daughters with celebrity Giancarlo Esposito. All of her life's twists and turns landed her on the decision to write a book that would help young people dodge some of the pitfalls she encountered. Young adults have a lot to overcome and learn, including doubting themselves in today's hyper critical society on social media. Their path will be one of a Good Life if they can discern their values, mission and purpose - tools rarely taught in high school or even college. Her new book, The Good You, was written to press the concept of Help not Hurt out in the world for young adults. She gives four key pillars to look at why you are motivated to make choices in your young life.We talk about the creative process she went through and how exhilarating it feels to write a book. Her moment when she knew she had to write this book came in a dinner conversation when friends were expressing they were struggling with their kids and they asked her, “Why are your kids not so messed up?' She understood all her capacities as a mentor, teacher and coach combined provided her kids the tools they needed from her mothering perspective. The book started as a guide for mothers to not raise kids who are not screwed up, and it morphed into a book focused on how to be a good person in a simple non-complicated way.We chat about:* Writing a true vernacular and terminology for young readers as a midlife writer.* When she realized her self-help book needed her story so the readers could invest in her as an author.* Writing five drafts and how the vision has changed of the book. Her advice to any writer starting the process is to be clear about your motivation for writing a book. Remember why you initially started which anchors you on days you are staring at a half-baked book. She also suggests a writer to be flexible with their book as it evolves. Joy is in the process of shopping her book and so we are rooting for her to land an agent to get this amazing book in bookstores all over America! What a great graduation gift! If you enjoyed this show, may we suggest other episodes you may like with Book Client/Authors of Kim's? Every success story has a beginning, every race has a start . 2022 just started couple of days ago and the distance is still far to cover.but there is always a beginning and an input that is good no matter how little people regard it. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Gen. 1:10 says And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good. That venture of God in creation turned out Good.God saw it was good. Learn To See Something Good In Your Effort Our God, the maker of Heaven and Earth, always saw the good in every thing He created. The scripture said, "And God saw that it was Good" You might not be through yet with what you intend to do, but always see the good aspect despite the uncompleted side of your work. Learn to always focus on what is good that you've done, not just the bad side. Listening to people to condemn your effort will not move you forward. The easiest way to be discouraged is seeing the bad aspect of your effort or yourself. Celebrate the good job you've achieved and move on to the next step. Atleast, you are making progress. See what is good in what you are doing, it will motivate you to do more.

COVID was a non-starter, the Olympics were over budget by 400% and then there are Snoop Dogg and Kevin Hart. GOOD - You can't talk about this Olympics without talking about COVID. The pandemic delayed the games a year, and while there were fears of a total outbreak, it seems like the precautions worked. A few high-profile athletes like John Rahm (golf) and Coco Gauff (tennis) tested positive, but overall, COVID was a non-event. - Americans Caeleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky continued to dominate in the pool. He won five gold medals, and she made history, winning her sixth individual gold. There is no word on Dressel's future, but Ledecky has already promised that she'll be back for 2024 in Paris. - Snoop Dogg and Kevin Hart's commentary on the Olympics was the unsung hero of the Games. They've covered everything from Tonga's shirtless flag bearer to Tom Daley's gold medal-winning synchronized dive. Although our favorite moment has to be their take on the dressage routine by Mopsie, the "rave horse." BAD (TURNED POSITIVE) - Being a good sport is in the DNA of the Olympics, and we have to look no further than the track and field competition. First, Isaiah Jewett (USA)and Mijel Amous (Botswana) collided during the 800-meter race, falling. The two picked each other up and finished the race together. - In the high jump, after tying Mutaz Essa Barshim (Qatar) and Gianmarco Tamberi (Italy), were offered a chance to have a jump off to determine a gold medal winner or share the gold. The two agreed to share the gold. The exclamation mark was Tamberi leaping into Barshim's arms to celebrate their co-victory. - It seemed like a death sentence for US Women's Gymnastics (and NBC's ratings) when Simone Biles dropped out of the team all-around and subsequent events. But not so fast. With Biles out, her teammates Suni Lee (gold – all-around), Jade Carey (gold – floor) and MyKayla Skinner (silver – vault) all medaled in individual events. Every member of the US Gymnastics team went home with a medal, including Biles, who earned a silver (team all-around) and bronze (beam). UGLY - The biggest gut-punch was to the city of Tokyo. It's estimated that the city spent around $35 billion to put on the Olympics - a far cry from the initial $7.3 billion budget. With the games being delayed a year and no Olympic tourists, it'll be tough for them to recoup their costs. According to a University of Oxford study, each Olympic Games since 1960 has overrun its budget by 172 percent on average. This Olympics is over by 400 percent. - It may all work itself out by the end, but the overall TV ratings have been down for the Olympics. Some cite the time difference, confusion on where to catch the coverage and prominent name athletes exiting competition early. The ratings, which are down 42% from Rio 2016, may cause NBC to make right with some advertisers. They sold more than $1.25 billion in commercials and are paying $1.1 billion for broadcast rights. Learn To See Something God In Your Effort Our God, the maker of Heaven and Earth, always saw the good in every thing He created. At least, you are making progress. See what is good in what you are doing, it will motivate you to do more. Your will to succeed is in you. So *If you do not go after what you desire or what you dream of, it will only remain a dream or figment of imagination. If you dont ask, the answer will always be NO. If you don't take bold steps to move forward you will only remain in the same place and position. Take a courageous step today and you will be amazed at the productive outcome and innovator in you. Also give it a shot.nothing ventured is nothing gain. I repeat nothing ventured is nothing gained.

2 more free “Kale Letters” and I’m sending to subscribers only 5x per week!Hey everyone, short letter today, quick life hack that can really help you. I stole this from the book "Atomic Habits” - definitely worth checking out. Also, I’ve tested this in my own life, so I can 100% attest to it working. Okay, so you want to start a new habit? Great!Easier said than done right? We’ve all put off going to the gym one too many times..Or eaten that ice cream that we’re not supposed to :)Stop thinking about all the times you’ve failed, and right now…Think of all the habits you ALREADY HAVE!I mean, the ones that are SET IN STONE.For example:Every day before you get out of bed you check twitter, email, facebook, in that order, and then get up. Every day before you go to bed you brush your teeth, take out your contactsEvery day around lunch time you do x…You get the idea.NOW, here’s the SECRET, the big HACK. Just stack your NEW habit ON TOP of the one you ALREADY HAVE.“huh? Stack?”Yes, just use that old habit as a TRIGGER for the new habit. For instance, let’s say you eat lunch at the same time every day, but you really want to workout every day as well. (Hint, this was me)So, I sat there and just rehearsed it in my mind. The actual STEPS that would transition me from my OLD HABIT to my NEW HABIT. I pictured myself walking down the stairs at noon…Walking over to the fridge…Just about to open it…And BOOM, now, instead of opening it and continuing to eat lunch, I instead pull out my phone, throw on a workout video on youtube, and just start working out, right there and then in my living room. It really is as easy as that. Try it with something that is a SOLID HABIT, and make sure you have EASY, LOW RESISTANCE TRIGGER POINTS.GOOD = You watch TV every night. Every time there is a commercial you get up and do 10 pushups.BAD = You watch TV every night. You refuse to watch TV all together and run 6 miles instead. GOOD = Your wife/husband cooks you dinner frequently. As soon as they place the plate in front of you you LAVISH praise on them like a crazy person. BAD = Your wife/husband cooks you dinner frequently. You decide that you should cook instead to be a servant. You try it once and fail miserably and go back to your old habit. Get it? It’s just little tweaks like this, where you use memory to your ADVANTAGE. Use the habits you ALREADY HAVE to STRENGTHEN the new habits you WANT TO BUILD.Just be careful, this works REALLY WELL, so don’t start any habits you don’t want :)Kale Get on the email list at thekaleletter.substack.com

Today I come to you from California where I have had five great days with my family, learning new things while also pushing the ball forward on LFTN and Holler Roast Coffee. I have made a ton of tradeoffs this week, including two episodes. We will talk about the what and why of tradeoffs and why they are important to your long term success and happiness. Free Man Beyond the wall has been put on a 30 day hold on Facebook. Do him a favor and check out his podcast: https://freemanbeyondthewall.com/ Next Week’s Schedule Tales from the Prepper Pantry Chickens are in the freezer Grabbed 4 turkeys from Schoolbell Farm -- glad someone local is willing to raise them Selfish Sunday will revolve around a last round of gathering herbs for drying Need to address the firewood problem Operation Independence KickStartHollerRoast.com update Reached 20k Found a building BHAG -- How you can help Main topic of the Show: Episode 351 - Tradeoffs are Good You know that pang? That little feeling of guilt and remorse? That moment when you are doing one thing and not another, or many other?  That little pang is good. It is an indication that you are doing the right thing. That you have come to a point along your journey toward your true purpose where it is time to work through a series of tradeoffs. It is not a sock in the gut -- oh shit I am doing the wrong thing sort if feeling. Merely a brief moment of remorse when you realize that you need to focus one place and the expanse of another to move things forward. Not everyone has that feeling, but everyone who is successful does have one thing in common: the need to choose the most important place to focus for long term progress. And often this means letting the less important thing wait. Or letting it go completely. Yes. tradeoffs are good. They mean you are growing. They mean that you are willing to do what it takes to succeed. And when you have the big picture in mind, they are not easy to figure out. If you tap into our Mewe Group you will see folks at different places in their walk to freedom, often paralyzed with too many options, not sure where to go. They what if themselves to death when they could have been moving forward. And some what iffing is good -- I mean I have four or five ways to get home from California right now if my flight does not happen in the morning. Those ways came from a healthy amount of what iffing. But when you spend all your time what iffing, you forget to spend your time actually doing.  And when you spend your time trying to be everything for everyone, to do everything for everyone, you lose yourself in the shuffle and build a lifestyle that is no different than being a slave wager, stuck in dept, working for someone else rather than building your life how you want it. Tradeoffs are hard sometimes. And it can hurt when you realize that you really should not do what you used to do. But if you really embrace tradeoffs and relentlessly focus on trading off the things that get in the way of your progress, you will find that you end up in a much happier place. Yes. Happier. Not necessarily richer. Happier. Because really what we are building with our side hustles, with our enterprises, on our homestead or city steads -- what we are building is the life we want to live and that means happiness. Someone in our network recently told me that he does what he does to finance all his interests -- all the fun stuff he gets to do because his business is successful. To which I though --RIGHT ON. This is a person who had built his business they way he wants it, built his lifestyle the way he wants it, and it allows him to do things he wants to do. And that took tradeoffs. I see him up before me doing homestead chores. I see him working out much later than I do. I see him helping lots of people around him achieve what they want to achieve. I see him not giving up -- never giving up. Nut you know he has tradeoffs, right? Sometimes he trades sleep. Sometimes he trades a night of partying. Sometimes he trades -- well heck -- sometimes he trades things we will never know about. Because he is doing it the right way and not bitching about his tradeoffs. But tradeoffs are there -- they are always there. Take this week. Here I am in California, two podcasts in the hole, putting together a guerrilla show for y'all because I traded off recording in order to recover and to have quality time with my family. That may not seem like the best business choice but it is. And here is what the tradeoffs look like: Holler Roast needs to get lots of things completed by mid October. More than full time input while keeping other things moving -- traded off promotion time for LFTN, a holler neighbor livestream, New web contracts, sleep, time with my animals -- Kept my commitments to other content creators depending on me -- this means I took a small hit to my own podcast because I had to trade off time  and rather than  Immune system taxed -- Cancelled livestream, chose one thing per day to achieve and rolled back hours to make sure I handled this Roaster schedule vs california -- family won (why this is), Tradeoff: promoting kickstarthollerroast, podcast episodes, new web clients, being onsite for the roastery preparations, legal appointments -- goose got done because it is a livestream. And the end result? My niece had a great birthday with her family. I have learned to paint by numbers and make slime. I have had a chance to catch up with my sister on some important things. My energy is back. And there is a lifestyle clarity coming. I love working hard. I love having plants and learning new things. I love getting sleep and exercise. I do not have time to do this if my income-generating projects take 12-14 hour days, seven days a week. So there were tradeoffs this week. And some things need to be permanently traded off if I want a life I enjoy living. With time for new things, for being with family and friends.  It may sound like a cop out, but it isnt. It is a shift that has been coming all year as we grow. Growing means MORE. But more of the right things, not more of everything right? And to do it well, to make sure that you are able to have the kind of life you want financially, in your relationships, and at home -- tradeoffs are part of the growing game. This for that, not always this AND that. Thought when asked if she wanted ice cream and whipped cream on her apple crumble, my niece did say both -- and she was not wrong. But look around at how you are building your world? Farmers market taking a ton of time and not bringing in what you could if you had that time to really focus on doing what you need? But it means a temporary drop in revenue that you are not entirely sure you can replace. Ask yourself, what is the best choice for the long term? What transitional steps do I need to take. Because if you cannot do both and end up with a lifestyle you want, then why do it at all. And no I do not mean just let things got -- I mean let the RIGHT things go. When you dont do the right things, you will often find you get a sock in the gut ,not a pang of regret. That pang is there to let you know you traded… make sure you trade up. And. Embrace the pang! https://youtu.be/ZVDUByzJM8o Israel cleaned house 4 So the children of Israel put away the Baals and the Ashtoreths, and served the Lord only.Admitted their sin 6 So they gathered together at Mizpah, drew water, and poured it out before the Lord. And they fasted that day, and said there, “We have sinned against the Lord.”They were afraid v7And when the children of Israel heard of it, they were afraid of the Philistines They cried out and trusted God v8 “Do not cease to cry out to the Lord our God for us, that He may save us from the hand of the Philistines.”They went to war 11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, and drove them back as far as below Beth Car.God delivered them 13 So the Philistines were subdued, and they did not come anymore into the territory of Israel. And the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel. They were afraid but went to battle and God gave them the victory “they were afraid of the philistines” Some of ya’ll got some philistines in your life that you’re afraid to face because of fear. Fear is natural They had just been whomped by the philistines. They had seen God strike down their bretherenThey tried the ‘do it without God’ route and the results were abysmal. Things did not go wellIts natural that they would feel fear. If you had seen and heard about 10s of thousands of your countrymen die, and then you have to go up against a formidable force, you’d be fearful as well7 Now when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel had gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard of it, they were afraid of the Philistines. They had done the right things- they had repented- They had removed the sin, but they were still afraid. Now they are facing the philistines- and I hope they are a bit afraid. Afraid of what would happen if they trusted in themselves or lived in their dual nature of serving other GodsYEAH DUDE> I’d be Afraid! People die when they go against the philistines without GodBe the guy in the group that says “I am not so sure about this gents” Some fear in your life is actually good for you- its an indicator of something you should respect Respect fire, firearms, water, electricity, and the debt collectors. (putting in outlet w power)Psalm 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.Godly fear isn’t fearing the things of this world, its about fearing God and realizing what you’re getting into If you’re going to get married, have some fear, or kids, or new job, respect it. Its hugeBut you’re not going to be spiritually destroyed if you take the wrong job or buy wrong carWhat does it mean to youIf you have fear of facing big things in your life, that makes you human Growing spiritually, emotionally, relationships, jobs, career moves, upward, confrontationProverbs 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.Fear can be a gut check- what am I doing and who am I trusting. If you never feel any fear, I’m curious if you’re actually growing, because every time I grow to the next level I get scared. Will I fail? Will I get hurt? Will I be embarrassed? Will God be with me? Am I even hearing God?Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. It’s an honest assessment of the task at hand- You’re about to fight the philistines. Its game timeWho are we, where are we going. What is it going to takeFirst and foremost-if you’re fearing God- that’s GOOD- You’re on the right track! I fear God as I lead this church- is he proud of me? Am I doing right? Is this of God?Proverbs 14:27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, To turn one away from the snares of death.
