Using insights from Angela Duckworth's Grit and Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophy, we explore why excellence is not about natural talent but the result of consistent, everyday effort. Key Takeaways:✅ Talent is overrated—grit and perseverance are what lead to greatness.✅ Nietzsche teaches us to focus on the process, not just the final result.✅ Small, consistent efforts add up to extraordinary results.

The Darius Foroux Show: Master Your Productivity. Master Your Life.

The German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche wrote this in his book, The Gay Science, about purpose: “Gradually, man has become a fantastic animal that has to fulfill one more condition of existence than any other animal: man has to believe, to know, from time to time why he exists; his race cannot flourish without a periodic trust in life–without faith in reason in life.” Nietzche said that we need to have some kind of trust in life. Just surviving, eating, working, and procreating are not enough. The purpose is the compass that guides us through life. It's not about achieving grandiose goals or accumulating material wealth. It's about finding fulfillment in what we do and making a difference. Pre-order The Stoic Path to Wealth My new book is coming out July 16th. Daniel Tutt shares insights into Nietzsche's influence on leftist thought, emphasizing how his theories can be both valuable and problematic. The discourse explores Nietzsche's impact on left-wing thinkers ranging from Gilles Deleuze, Georges Bataille, and The Bolsheviks to Huey Newton and Jack London. Tutt draws on some critics of Nietzsche, such as György Lukács and Domenico Losurdo's book Nietzsche: The Aristocratic Rebel. In this dialogue, we disset Nietzsche's views on politics, culture, class, slave morality, resentment, otium, truth and and the will to power. Tutt's upcoming book calls for a 'parasitic' interpretation of Nietzsche, in which we should take Nietzche as a challenge to the left and learn from his ideas while acknowledging that he is an enemy of the left rather than trying to ignore his reactionary politics to reinterpret his philosophy as being compatible with a Marxist emancipatory politics. These past two podcasts on Nietzche are my attempt to foster dialogue between left-Nietzchians, who believe a synthesis between Nietzche and Marx (or socialist policies more broadly) and left more skeptical thinkers, and see Nietzsche more as an enemy/challenge to the Left who should still be studied, rather than a thinker whose politics can be reconciled with a socialist/communist politics. Regardless of your views, Nietzsche and his philosophy are incredibly relevant in the age of late capitalism. Savage and Gress cover the history of feminism and its philosophical roots in Nietzche, Descartes, Marx, and more. Why celebrating womanhood has been replaced with idealization of the masculine. Our channel is dedicated to increasing mindfulness through the lens of the ancient philosophy of Stoicism.Interest in meditation, mindfulness, and contemplation has grown exponentially in recent years. For millions around the world, mindfulness has become a life-style choice, enhancing and enriching everyday experience. What is the meaning of the Stoic practice of Amor Fati? Stoicism is an excellent framework for modern life, the ideas are simple on the surface, but the value can be profound. Amor Fati is the practice of accepting and embracing everything that has happened, is happening, and is yet to happen. It is understanding that the nature of the universe is change, and that without change we would not exist, our relationships would not exist, we wouldn't laugh, cry, love, create, or grow. Any suggestions for dealing with overthinking and performance anxiety? In 5120 you mention men talking women out of their neuroses. Do you have any advice for how I can be more effective at this?Hi Stef, My prisoner pen pal in CA, who is 33 years old, got released from prison four months ago having served his seven year sentence for burglary (baloney theft) and abruptly went off the radar. He doesn't know anybody except me and his sister. I'm pretty sure he has a touch of autism, he's not socially outgoing. He is still alive; I found his arrest warrant for vandalism last week. Also, he decided he was a girl and went on transgender hormones last year and I believe he is shooting meth daily now too. I miss him. I have no idea / can't imagine what is going on in his head. What do you think is going on with him? Where is he going with this?Hey Stef, when's the Nietzsche and Schopenhauer philosophy episodes coming? I hope you don't have some sort of prejudice towards old German guys with moustaches, I hope it's because your preparing to deliver the richest and deepest insight into the philosophy of these two guys ever and that is the reason your taking so long to get around to them. If so I understand Stef, take your time. Make sure to include Nietzche's idea of ‘eternal recurrence'. Imagine being born in the same life in the exact same circumstances over and over again forever! In general how much do you think a woman cares about the prestige/social value of a man's job versus his earnings? For example a plumber making a few hundred k a year versus a more white collar job making far less but with a more “impressive” title.Although I do feel the blue collar man is due for a big comeback in the years ahead.Hi Stef, I'm current listening to the UPB audiobook and I have a question. If two universally preferable behaviors contradict one another, which one do we default to? Take this example discussed at the 2:25:40 time stamp. https://odysee.com/@freedomain:b/universally-preferable-behaviour-a-2:a?src=embed1. Everyone would rather steal an apple than starve to death.2. Thus everyone universally prefers stealing apples to death by starvation.3. Thus it is universally preferable to steal apples rather than starve to death.4. Thus survival is universally preferable to property rights.5. Thus what is good for the individual is the ultimate moral standard. Here the contradiction is between survival and property rights. You've used biological mutations not disproving biological classifications as a rebuttal, but usually biological mutations don't contradict the essence of a biological classification. You have also said, that a survival based morality doesn't offer answers to questions such as "If it is morally permissible to steal food when you are starving, how much food can you steal? How hungry do you have to be? Are you allowed to steal meals rather than look for work or appeal to charity?"However, if according to UPB self defense is justified, surely there are also similar questions such as " How do you know whether or not a threat is eliminated? Can you preemptively defend yourself or is self defense only reactive?" So surely the complexity or potential for abuse exists in both cases. You have also said, survival based behaviors use "mere biological drives as justifications for behaviour... It is an explanation of a behavior rather than a proposed moral theory."UPB however, is also driven by the biological drive to live and it is also an explanation of behaviors so I don't understand how on a technical level the desire to survive as a UPB, is less valid than other UPBs.If the desire to survive isn't a UPB, can you talk more about why? If it is a UPB, how do we organise it into a hierarchy with all the other UPBs?Thank you in advanceDo you follow much politics and just not talk about it on the show or have you cut out most of it from your life?Just a "humble" request: never speak about or answer questions about (boomer

Friedrich Nietzche once talked about the largest barrier to higher level thinking as our natural instinct as humans to simplify things. The early understanding as the first humans to take experiences and categorize them as opposites. For example, light and dark, good and evil, master and slave.    This categorization makes it easy to understand and initially Jussie people, things and experiences without much thought. This major simplification ingrained in our DNA is false, argued Nietzche. Things are not opposites in our world but rather differences of degree. There is no good and bad just varying degrees between the two, and this small change in mindset can lead to an enlightened view of society as a whole.  Think about the ways in your own life in which you previously have been categorizing your beliefs as opposites of one another as opposed to differences of degree. Never judging or predisposing yourself to the idea that someone of something is completely opposite but rather a unique difference in degree compared to you and me.

His name is Paul Hannam, he's the author of The Wisdom of Groundhog Day: How to Improve Your Life One Day at a Time, and today on the show, Paul unpacks the deeper philosophical layers of what's considered one of the best movies of all time. Paul explains how the film teaches us that to escape the ruts of what he calls the “Groundhog Day condition,” we must first make an inner change where we learn to approach life in a more grateful, present-focused, engaged way. From there, we can embrace the film's unique strategy for change, which is to experiment with doing something new every day, thereby refining and improving our lives through the process of trial, error, and progressive improvement.Resources Related to the PodcastGroundhog DayAoM Article: Getting Over the Horror of the Same Old ThingAoM article on Nietzche's idea of eternal return Sunday Firesides: Eternity Is NowSunday Firesides: Care, But Don't CareSunday Firesides: Life Is a Skill — Practice ItAoM Podcast #676: Stop Living on Autopilot and Take Responsibility for Your LifeAoM Article: The Right and Wrong Way to JournalConnect With Paul HannamPaul's WebsiteListen to the Podcast!
