Send us a textThe Back in Time Brothers: High School Hits of the 70sGet ready to jump, get ready to sway! Join DJ Paulie and his brother Lou—The Back in Time Brothers—as heard on URL radio for a wild trip back to the 70s. We're diving deep into the High School Hits of the 70s, the tracks that became the soundtrack to growing up in the decade of lava lamps and Letterman jackets. Lace up your sneakers and crank the volume as we revisit the rock anthems that blasted out of Trans Ams, including Ted Nugent's guitar-fueled "Strangle Hold", Deep Purple's "Highway Star" (a badge of cool for teens who loved cars and guitars), and Head East's "Never Been Any Reason," often nicknamed the rock and roll national anthem. We've got the full rock spectrum, from the raw blues-driven rocker "Tush" by ZZ Top, to the ultimate cruising music, Fog Hat's "Slow Ride", all the way up to Edgar Winter Group's feel-good classic, "Free Ride". And when the lights dimmed at the gym? We've got the ultimate teenage heartbreak ballad, Nazareth's "Love Hurts," which filled high school proms. But we're more than just classic rock! The Back in Time Brothers bring the laughs with their infamous segments:Rock Talk: 70s Fads: Expert Todd Snyder deep-dives into the wonderfully weird world of 70s culture. We explore everything from the infamous Pet Rock (which sold over 1.5 million units for $3.95 a piece), to the mystical and pseudoscientific mood ring, and the bizarre cultural juggernaut of streaking (a competitive sport on college campuses). We'll also look at how Happy Days gave us the phrase “jump the shark” when The Fonz water-skied over one!Stupid Criminals: Tune in for a weekly lineup of losers, dimwitted schemes, and laughable mistakes. Hear about the woman busted for dressing in a hot dog costume and covering her neighbor's car in toilet paper, or the man who decided to sell marijuana to raise money to afford police academy.Random Facts: Lou and Paul share bizarre scientific and animal tidbits, like how one teaspoon of neutron star material would weigh billions of tons and why a bearcat smells like hot buttered popcorn!Bad Dates: Listen to real-life dating disasters, including a guy who threw the ends of French fries on the floor, another who immediately called his blind date "average looking", and a disastrous encounter involving a Bills-themed man cave and a perplexing "mommy kink".So, slip on those bell bottoms, adjust the leisure suit lapels, and get ready to be taken on a free ride. The Back in Time Brothers are bringing the sound and the laughs!Support the showThanks for listening. Join us each Monday at 1pm Central at www.urlradio.net and follow us on Facebook!

This is the last episode we recorded while the Cardinal was in Winnipeg a few weeks back and concludes the epic Randy-does-his-laundry-during-the-pod narrative trilogy! This week's song was requested by Chrissy AKA The Waters of Love! Randy was really familiar with the song and Kev was pretty sure he'd never heard it, so how will this one shake out???If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "I don't know why sometimes I get frightened" or possibly, "Spiders. It's definitely spiders".The sixth episode in this podcast-within-a-podcast covers Neil Finn's first solo writing credit, "I Got You". Our guest today is Daniel Glass. Daniel is a renowned drummer, educator, and historian known for his deep expertise in the roots of American drumming, particularly in jazz, swing, and early rock 'n' roll. A member of the pioneering retro-swing band Royal Crown Revue, Glass has performed with a wide array of top artists, blending historical influence with modern flair. His passion for drumming history is reflected in his books, clinics, and instructional videos. The project that introduced Daniel to me was his three-hour documentary called “The Century Project” which explores the evolution of the drum set and drumming styles from 1865 to 1965. Glass is also celebrated for his dynamic, groove-focused playing and his ability to bridge the gap between past and present drumming traditions. Go check out all his happenings at danielglass.com, but for now, please enjoy the 5 records that helped shape Daniel Glass into the drummer he is today. Cheers! Fritz Hutchison trekked over on a January snow day and sat with me for two hours to bullshit about music and life, and I gotta tell ya' -- it was one of my favorite conversations in recent memory.I couldn't put a finger on it until several days after we recorded, but there were a number of reasons why I was -- more so than others -- looking forward to this interview. My son -- perpetually eyeing in some fashion or other my calendar of upcoming guests -- made me giggle a time or two about Fritz's upcoming date. And after an oral-surgeon appointment for both of our kids, my ex-wife helped me connect that dots that I know his dad.Neither of those mattered, though. It just turned out to be that Fritz is a charismatic dude with a great sense of humor, a wild world of knowledge in his head, and he's a pretty darn good musician, too, it turns out. It was as if the cosmos was telling me I had a good guest on the books, and Fritz -- even though I managed to just...boorishly butcher his name several times -- did not disappoint. It's Episode No. 103, and one could follow this episode's guest, were one so inclined. He's on the good ol' Instagrams, and he's got himself a handsome bandcamp page, too.Anyway, we talked life and family, musicianship and gigging, recording, and loving music. And we may've gone a skosh overboard in our heralding of Deep Purple's "Highway Star," but...what's a guy to do.During the music-loving portion of our talk, we did pause briefly from shenanigans to mention a few of Fritz's all-time-favorite albums, and those were these:Milestones (1958), Miles DavisDeep Purple's Machine Head (1972)Hammersmith Odeon, London '75 (2006), Bruce Springsteen & the E Street BandBig Thief's Two Hands (2019)Suffice to say that this was a fun one, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Thank you.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio clips featured in this episode. A Review Of Key AI/Automotive Innovations by Qualcomm and Ethernovia Including The Selection Of The Snapdragon Platform For The 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ In this episode of The 5G Factor, our series that focuses on all things 5G, the IoT, and the ecosystem as a whole, The Futurum Group's Ron Westfall is joined by colleague and fellow analyst, Olivier Blanchard, for a look at the top 5G developments and what's going on that caught our eye. Their conversation underscored: Qualcomm Spotlights Benefits of Running Gen AI on Devices. We see the cost of running generative AI models on-device versus the cloud translates directly to the amount of power required to run these models. Edge devices with efficient AI processing offer leading performance per watt, especially when compared with the cloud. Edge devices can run generative AI models at a fraction of the energy, especially when considering not only processing but also data transport. This difference is significant in energy costs as well as helping cloud providers offload data center energy consumption to meet their environmental and sustainability goals. We examine why on-device processing performance of mobile devices has increased by double-digits with each technology generation and is projected to continue this trend, and how Qualcomm's portfolio is integral to optimizing generative AI models across the global digital ecosystem through edge device optimization. Ethernovia: Accelerating Vehicle Data Architecture Transformation. New entrant Ethernovia is charting a portfolio development course that aggregates enormous quantities of data and routing between AI and SoC chipsets, which requires high bandwidth, low latency intelligent fabrics. As vehicle architectures evolve from domain-centric controllers toward zonal architectures, networking solutions must concurrently evolve to support higher data rates of advanced vehicle applications while meeting demand for improved reliability and security. We assess why zonal architectures are critical to advancing and scaling fast-evolving software-defined vehicle (SDV) applications such as Advanced Driver-Assisted Systems (ADAS), autonomous driving (AD) and a rich ecosystem of customer software delivered Over the Air (OTA), including 5G connectivity. Ericsson on Board for Intel's 18A Process. Qualcomm's announcement that the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ will leverage several core automotive platforms from its Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions stack in one vehicle points to both the growing appeal for automakers to streamline the design of their software-defined vehicles and to the accelerating maturity of Qualcomm's portfolio of automotive solutions. The four pillars of Qualcomm's Snapdragon Digital Chassis stack focus on connectivity, cockpit tech (digital instrument clusters and infotainment), Car-to-Cloud features (think OTA updates), and ADAS (the Snapdragon Ride Platform delivers a broad swath of driver-assist and autonomous driving features). We review GM's decision to power the 2025 Escalade IQ with key Snapdragon automotive platforms and why it sends a clear signal to the industry that it trusts Qualcomm to deliver the goods when it comes to uncompromisingly redefine the Escalade for the EV era.

GLENN HUGHES TO PERFORM CLASSIC HITS FROM THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OFDEEP PURPLE'S LEGENDARY “BURN” ALBUMCO-HEADLINE U.S. TOUR WITH YNGWIE MALMSTEEN ANNOUNCED Glenn Hughes, the former bassist, and singer of Deep Purple, known to millions as the ‘Voice of Rock', Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and the front man for rock super group Black Country Communion, is pleased to announce an evening celebrating music from BURN and other classic hits from Deep Purple's rich back catalog – during a tour that will mostly see him co-headlining with guitar great Yngwie Malmsteen. Billed as “Glenn Hughes Performs The 50th Anniversary of Deep Purple's BURN Live”, Hughes will perform classic hits from the legendary album, and the addition of Deep Purple MKIII and MKIV songs. Glenn's band will feature Soren Andersen (guitar), Ash Sheehan (drums) and Ed Roth (keyboards).'It was 50 years ago, in the summer of 1973, that the BURN album by Deep Purple was written at Clearwell castle in Gloucestershire UK,” reminisces Hughes. “It was recorded in October in Montreux, Switzerland.”Continues Hughes, “We all became one in this centuries old castle in the UK countryside, it felt like Deep were a new band, with David (Coverdale) and I as new members, we couldn't wait to start working on new song. The atmosphere was electric, in such amazing surroundings.”“All the songs on Burn were written in the crypt/dungeon, underneath the great hall. We worked on a new song every day, and we were in the flow. Musically we would play, and work out ideas, and David and I would come up with vocal melodies that would later have lyrics. I remember it like it was yesterday.”“As you could imagine, Ritchie Blackmore was in full prankster mode, Jon had warned me, and he rigged my room one night with a speaker that was hidden, and had ghostly voices delivered to my bedside.”“The title track was the last song to be written. We came back from the pub, and went down into the crypt, and magic happened.”Concludes Hughes, “It's time to celebrate BURN, and I'm really looking forward to seeing you!”GLENN HUGHES PERFORMS CLASSIC HITS FROM THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF DEEP PURPLE'S LEGENDARY “BURN” ALBUM AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2023 US TOUR WITH YNGWIE MALMSTEEN (unless otherwise noted):08.16.23 LANDIS THEATER VINELAND, NJ*** (GLENN HUGHES ONLY)08.18.23 STRAND THEATER HUDSON FALLS, NY08.19.23 THE CHANCE POUGHKEEPSIE, NY08.22.23 THE PALLADIUM TIMES SQUARE NEW YORK, NEW YORK08.23.23 THE PARAMOUNT HUNTINGTON, NY08.25.23 THE KING OF CLUBS COLUMBUS, OH08.26.23 ARCADA THEATER ST. With the addition of David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes, Purple's hard rock sound became more boogie-oriented, incorporating elements of soul and funk, which would become much more prominent on the follow-up album, Stormbringer.Burn hit #3 on the UK Albums Chart, #9 on the US Billboard 200, and #1 in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Norway. In 2004 Burn was remastered and released with bonus tracks. Glenn Hughes, the former bassist, and singer of Deep Purple, known to millions as the ‘Voice of Rock', Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and the front man for rock super group Black Country Communion, is pleased to announce an evening celebrating music from BURN and other classic hits from Deep Purple's rich back catalog – during a tour that will mostly see him co-headlining with guitar great Yngwie Malmsteen. Billed as “Glenn Hughes Performs The 50th Anniversary of Deep Purple's BURN Live”, Hughes will perform classic hits from the legendary album, and the addition of Deep Purple MKIII and MKIV songs. Glenn's band will feature Soren Andersen (guitar), Ash Sheehan (drums) and Ed Roth (keyboards). 'It was 50 years ago, in the summer of 1973, that the BURN album by Deep Purple was written at Clearwell castle in Gloucestershire UK,” reminisces Hughes. “It was recorded in October in Montreux, Switzerland.” Continues Hughes, “We all became one in this centuries old castle in the UK countryside, it felt like Deep were a new band, with David (Coverdale) and I as new members, we couldn't wait to start working on new song. The atmosphere was electric, in such amazing surroundings.” “All the songs on Burn were written in the crypt/dungeon, underneath the great hall. We worked on a new song every day, and we were in the flow. Musically we would play, and work out ideas, and David and I would come up with vocal melodies that would later have lyrics. I remember it like it was yesterday.” “As you could imagine, Ritchie Blackmore was in full prankster mode, Jon had warned me, and he rigged my room one night with a speaker that was hidden, and had ghostly voices delivered to my bedside.” “The title track was the last song to be written. We came back from the pub, and went down into the crypt, and magic happened.” Concludes Hughes, “It's time to celebrate BURN, and I'm really looking forward to seeing you!” GLENN HUGHES PERFORMS CLASSIC HITS FROM THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF DEEP PURPLE'S LEGENDARY “BURN” ALBUM AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2023 US TOUR WITH YNGWIE MALMSTEEN (unless otherwise noted): 08.16.23 LANDIS THEATER VINELAND, NJ*** (GLENN HUGHES ONLY) 08.18.23 STRAND THEATER HUDSON FALLS, NY 08.19.23 THE CHANCE POUGHKEEPSIE, NY 08.22.23 THE PALLADIUM TIMES SQUARE NEW YORK, NEW YORK 08.23.23 THE PARAMOUNT HUNTINGTON, NY 08.25.23 THE KING OF CLUBS COLUMBUS, OH 08.26.23 ARCADA THEATER ST. The Highway Star dropped me off at Babylon and said real loud, “Don't Bogart that Joint.” I Hear You Now, I replied and I passed it to the Queen of Dreams, who happened to be flying by. I Feel Free, she said, Blow Wind Blow, cuz Livin' Ain't Livin' on the ground and up here God Is Alive, Magic Is Afoot. As for me, I'll Find My Way Home even if I have to walk. Yeah, Feats Don't Fail Me Now.
This Friday in Brooklyn, New York, Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple, Steve Miller and N.W.A will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Each day this week we are are profiling one of those inductees. Today, it's Deep Purple. The band became eligible for election in 1993 and was nominated three times before this year. They came in fourth in the fan voting, amassing 25.5-million votes behind Chicago, Yes and The Cars. The opening of "Smoke on the Water" is one of the most famous guitar riffs ever created. But the band's classics also include "Hush," "Highway Star," "Burn," "Lazy," "Space Truckin'" and "Perfect Strangers." Formed in Hertford, England in 1968, Deep Purple has had a tumultuous history with numerous members. They broke up in 1976 and reunited in 1986. Two members -- Jon Lord and Tommy Bolin -- are dead. Drummer Ian Paice, the only member on board for the entire 48-year run, will be in Brooklyn on Friday, along with Ian Gillan, Roger Glover and former members Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale. Founding guitarist Ritchie Blackmore will not attend because the current line-up refuses to perform with him. Original singer Rod Evans is also included in the band being inducted, but his whereabouts are unknown. Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich will do the honors at the ceremony.

Justin Mancini of TheCineMaverick.com & Cinema Joes is joined by fellow Cinema Joes podcast host Noah Franc of FrancNoir, as well as Luke Martin, host of Talking the Coda, as they delve into the discography of Canada's favorite sons, from 1974 to 2012. In the ninth episode of the podcast, Justin, Luke, Noah, and recurring guest Chris examine the band's first foray into their so-called “synth era.” They drop literary allusions to Hemingway and Donne, contemplate Neil Peart's extensive takedown of suburbia, and make favorable comparisons with one album track to Deep Purple's “Highway Star.” And as always, the hosts recommend more artists for your listening pleasure. In 1972, Deep Purple wanted to come off the road and settle into an atmosphere that would allow them to stretch out creatively and better capture their live sound. They headed to Lake Geneva, Switzerland to take residence in a casino right after Frank Zappa played one more gig there. The rest is rock n roll lore captured in the all time classic Smoke on the Water. Containing other radio staples like Highway Star and Space Truckin along with killer album cuts like Never Before and Lazy, this is the album that made it possible for Purple to continue to this day. We discuss the lineup, the relationships within and The wolf's hopes to catch them in London this fall live. Machine Head is 50 and we don't know a world without it!

Cars and motorbikes have forever been a key part of rock'n'roll songs and lifestyle. In the Western world, kids had cars, sometimes borrowed from their parents but increasingly their own. Cars offered status, escape from daily life, and, of course, a means to sex!! When you're in your car, you want to hear songs about cars and driving, and rock'n'roll was happy to deliver. In this episode, we look at songs that talk about cars, the artists who made those songs, and some strange stories about both. Wherein Eric and John explore the surprising amount of interconnectivity and influence between arguably the least and most prestigious of musical genres, heavy metal and classical music, via comparisons of Deep Purple with Antonio Vivaldi and Eddie Van Halen with Niccolò Paganini. Throughout these "Roots of Heavy Metal" episodes, we'll dig deep into the many influences that made heavy metal music what it is, with longer episodes, more musical examples, and even more delightful verbal sparring as we uncover the wide array of musical styles that contribute to metal's vast musical family tree.
