She is also the host of the Marketing Mambo podcast."I think that all of us have that voice in our head that says, 'Oh, you need to do this or you need to do that and if you don't something bad is going to happen'. I call it a gremlin, that voice in the head. A lot of times the gremlin is very harsh with us, right. It's critical. It's perfectionistic. It sometimes catastrophizes about, 'Oh, if you don't do this, you're going to get fired or you're gonna lose your house or whatever.' And it's very important, number one, to recognize that the gremlin is there to try to keep us safe, but the gremlin has no nuances. The gremlin is going to be very harsh about trying to keep you safe." - Terry McDougallWe discuss in this episode with Terry:Why Terry decided to become an entrepreneur in 2017 after 30 years of corporate business experience. It’s very hard to sum up the career and life of Terry Aronson… what hasn’t this man done? Starting out in Sydney with his own highly successful construction company, Terry made the decision to go to the US to broaden his horizons. Despite his success in business, the US authorities would only issue him with a green card if he had a skill that was more unique than running a business. Luckily for Terry, he proved himself as an Olympic-standard shooter and beat the two best Olympians in the US! Having established himself in the US, Terry embarked upon an esteemed career in business, the military and not-for-profit sector, and while he was at it, he won 17 national shooting titles. It was truly inspiring to hear of his work coordinating response operations for major disasters across America, and how one of his charities revived a failing school. Terry’s sterling work led to him being assigned a tour of duty in the Pentagon for an almost-unprecedented five years. Now Terry is back home in Australia, keeping himself busy as treasurer of Coorparoo RSL and as a technological innovator with multiple patents. We had a very interesting conversation about Terry’s ambitions to broaden the scope of the RSL to become an even more inclusive organisation, and we also discuss the highlights of his incredible journey in the US. In this episode you will learn: -How Terry started a construction company at 19 and made a success of it -Terry’s grand entrance to the US, where he managed to obtain a green card by becoming an Olympic-standard shooter -How Terry’s military background helped him in business -Why Terry needed to leave Sydney to pursue his dreams -Why Terry thinks that leadership is interchangeable across specialisms and countries -How Terry balanced military service with business -How Terry coped with co-ordinating the first-response operations for hurricanes in San Francisco and Florida -How Terry’s Australian accent helped get him noticed and build rapport -The level of influence of Paul Hogan/Crocodile Dundee in the US -How the death of his uncle inspired him to volunteer in the not-for-profit sector -What made Terry come back to Australia -How Coorparoo RSL serves the wider community beyond ex-servicepeople -What Terry is doing to improve female participation in the RSL -The ethical and moral framework of the military, and how this helps get things done in a civilian context Useful Links: https://www.areteexecutive.com.au/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/richardtriggs/

Forget what you know about bidding for public sector work. This innovative IoT platform and sales process just changed the game. Selling technology to schools can be a frustrating process. You submit multiple proposals and navigate endless committees and approval processes to find out you’re just bid fodder. You do a lot of leg work so the prospect can get better pricing from an “insider” who already had the contract. I recently spoke to Terry McFarland and Jack Knocke who let me in on an IoT platform and sales process that bypasses all of that. In fact, Terry recently sold a $12M dollar deal to a district of 28 K12 schools. He did it quickly, by leveraging a powerful influencer that gave him the inside track. The IoT and AI platform they sold literally locks them in with the school--in fact, now all new technology must use their platform! So, if you’ve ever wondered how to make money with commercial IoT or, if you’re an IoT vendor who wants to build out a channel then, go to freeiotclass.com, where I’ll show you the actual Playbooks, IoT managed service providers, like Terry McFarland and Jack Knocke, are using to make 7-figures or more recurring revenue right now. What You Will Learn: The lucrative IoT opportunities in the education system How to sell a $12M managed service contract to a school district The structure of Terry and Jack’s resale model and how it affects future buying decisions How Terry sells the Interlogix one-touch lockdown system to public schools How Terry used a case study to reach key decision-makers IoT A La Carte Terry McFarland and Jack Knocke are collaborating on nearly $12M in IoT work for schools in K-12 and higher ed. Terry McFarland is the owner of Seamless Communication systems, a telecom agent and cloud-hosted voice over IP MSP. Jack Knocke is the owner of IoT Advisor Group, a firm that helps channel partners launch their IoT practices. They linked up through a mutual connection in the telecom space, intent on reinvigorating Terry's IoT business model and expanding his product set to achieve greater success. Terry's largest vertical used to be medical. However, when it comes to IoT, many of the HCAs and HSAs are using their own resources. The medical organizations tend to follow a stringent corporate structure, and it is hard to break into them. But the education system provided Terry with an entirely new set of opportunities. One-Touch Lockdown Before Terry moved to Florida, he spent eleven years in Colorado working for the Jefferson County School District. He was there during Columbine, which inspired him to take significant interest in school security. Terry's experience in education yielded a deep understanding of the IT needs in that niche. So, when Jack came into the picture, he found an IoT solution that meshed with Terry's background and skillset. In Terry's case, IoT encompasses anything and everything relating to IT infrastructure. But Jack helped him narrow his primary focus to campus security in K-12 and higher ed. Terry's offering improves the safety response process by tying existing technology together and enhancing it with advanced technology. IT teams do not want to adopt an entirely new system, so Terry preserves what is already in place and makes it more effective. Terry and Jack's role is to get their vendor in the door. They operate with an agent commission resale model and make money on every dollar sold. However, Terry also works with the vendor on installations if it falls into his area of expertise. This system creates multiple streams of revenue for him, but the model is a one-time commission. You don't have to be technical to sell this when you are an agent, and there are always opportunities to upsell. Summary The "one-touch lockdown" encompasses all of an institution's existing technologies with software that ties them together. But the best part is that Terry's offering is a la carte. Clients can pick and choose what suits their needs. However, many of the clients end up ordering more from the menu before the installation is complete. Active shooter scenarios are a significant driver behind this type of offering, but preparation is critical for reacting to any level of threat. There is a massive need in this market, so with Terry and Jack's strategy, you can profit while increasing the safety of schools across the country. If you are interested in learning more about the work they are doing, listen to their podcast episode, One-Touch Lockdown, with Terry McFarland and Jack Knocke. About Terry McFarland and Jack Knocke Terry McFarland is the owner of Seamless Communication Systems, which offers expertise in networking, phone systems, cloud services, carrier services, and IoT solutions. Terry has been in the Telecommunications industry for over 28 years. He started out as an installation technician and then transitioned to a Telecom Engineering position at a large school district in Colorado. Terry oversaw all telecommunication equipment design, installation, as well as project managing all carrier installations. After eleven years with the school district he moved to Florida where he worked for Bell South/ AT&T and was dedicated to another large school district designing, engineering, and maintaining their voice infrastructure. Eventually, his knowledge and passion led him to owning his own company, Seamless Communication Systems. Outside of work Terry enjoys being with his wife and five boys which entails attending a lot of football games, as four of the five are still playing in either high school or Pop Warner. Terry also enjoys riding his Harley as time permits. Terry is always available for consulting and can be reached at tmcfarland@seamlesscs.com. Jack Knocke is the founder and lead consultant for IoT Advisor Group, a consulting company that helps IT Solution Providers (MSPs, VARs, SIs, Agents) effectively build a practice around new technologies including IoT and connected devices. Knocke’s intuitive focus on the partner business model ensures a plan and execution focused on partner strengths and capabilities to build a substantial complementary recurring revenue stream. Knocke also supports Vendors and Distributors as they seek to provide compelling messaging, effective operational processes, productive compensation plans and engaging onboarding to new Solution Providers. As an engaging speaker and a knowledgeable educator, Knocke has hosted numerous MSP workshops providing an interactive opportunity to learn, build relationships, role-play new approaches and build a new sales funnel. Knocke is a 30-year veteran of the telecom industry. Prior to founding The VAR Advisor and IoT Advisor Group, he spent five years as COO for master agency MicroCorp. Inc., where he automated, streamlined and guided the business through 400 percent growth and facilitated two acquisitions. Previously, he held senior business development and operations positions including InPhonic Inc. (INC Magazine # 1 Fastest-Growing Company, IPO 2004). Before that, Knocke spent 14 years with GTE/Verizon leading new initiatives in Marketing, New Product Development, Systems Integration, Product Fulfillment and Finance. Terry is the author of the book, “Making Elephants Fly.” He is a speaker, coach, and entrepreneur.  He is also the host of the event, The Thing Live, taking place this May in Orlando, Florida, which I'll be speaking at. Terry is an all-around great guy. In this episode, we talked about his book, entrepreneurship, and how to price an event. Plus, we discussed how to take advantage of the knowledge economy and getting your dreams off the ground. Finally, we had an interesting conversation about outsourcing and delegating tasks, which can be a difficult thing for entrepreneurs to do. Our conversation took many twists and turns with insights from a truly knowledgeable entrepreneur. Without any further ado, here is my conversation with Terry Weaver. It’s acceptable, even as a leader to admit that you’re not sure the team can do it. Digest the information and then divide it into pieces and re-assemble them back together in a Master Schedule. Sometimes you need to build the job in planning from start to finish multiple times to find unforeseen hurdles ahead of time.             What Does the Pre-Planning Process Look Like? (11:43) Outline everything on a whiteboard/grease board (11:55) Start to put things on paper and really look at it (12:05) You can’t set a definitive timeline, but you can set some type of deadline (12:25) The team is made up of the two Project Managers, one from each side, a couple of Engineers, a couple of General Superintendents, and the subcontractors (12:30) Don’t be afraid to make adjustments or to change (13:15)   How To Deploy Hundreds of People on the Project Effectively (14:08) You have to break the people into certain groups and let them handle certain pieces. In addition, she is a clinical researcher, studying the use of diet and lifestyle interventions in autoimmune and other chronic disease states; her current clinical trial featuring the Wahls Paleo Diet received the support of the National Mutliple Sclerosis Society. Diagnosed in 2000 with multiple sclerosis, Dr. Wahls became a proponent of integrative and functional medicine, which helped her create an intensive nutrition, lifestyle, and neuromuscular electrical stimulation protocol that would treat the severe disability caused by her MS. She has made it her mission to spread the word about The Wahls Protocoland her own inspirational story of recovery through her TEDx talk, which has received more than 2.4 million hits; her website,www.terrywahls.com; the Wahls Foundation; and Wahls Protocol Seminars. Dr. Wahls lives in Iowa City, Iowa with her wife. Ketosis Dangers: How To Maximize the Nutrient Density of a Low Carb Diet

I don't think it's any secret that often have a giant, fat-filled, "ketogenic kale shake" for breakfast... ...and sometimes not just for breakfast, but multiple times during the day, especially on busy days. Heck, there's been occasional days where I have had a shake for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You’ll need for this one. Take a couple large handfuls of kale (preferably dinosaur kale that's been lightly steamed and drained), and toss the kale into the blender. Then add a handful of raw almonds, 3-5 raw brazil nuts ), 1/2-1 avocado, a teaspoon cinnamon, 1-2 tablespoons and 4-6oz full fat coconut milk (). I'll often also add in a handful of fresh herbs (i.e. mint, cilantro, parsley, oregano, etc. – which are fantastic for cleansing the gut and liver too). Then push blend. After 30-60 seconds of pulverizing, you can stir in 1-2 heaping scoops or and for a bit of added texture (yes, I like to chew my smoothie for better nutrient absorption), 1 teaspoon sea salt (I highly recommend this ), and a handful of with a tablespoon or two of . It tastes magical. And this recipe has never ripped me out of ketosis - despite it being a good 800-1000 calories if you make a big one! Now that shake is certainly a good example of a high-fat, low-carb meal that keeps you in ketosis - and I discuss . But perhaps more importantly, the shake is also extremely nutrient dense, a characteristic of low-carb meals that is often lost in an era of simply guzzling MCT Oil or consuming insane amounts of heavy cream and butter. Lack of nutrient density is one serious danger of ketosis, and my guest on today's podcast is going to explain why that is, tell you the best way to achieve ketosis, and also give you the best nutrient dense foods that you must include on a ketogenic diet if you truly want to optimize your vitamins, minerals, nutrients, micronutrients and hormones. Her name is . Dr. Wahls is a board certified internal medicine physician and clinical professor of medicine at the University of Iowa, where she teaches internal medicine residents in their primary care continuity of care clinics, sees patients in a traumatic brain injury clinic and conducts clinical trials. But she is also a patient with a chronic progressive neurological disorder - secondary progressive multiple sclerosis - which confined her to a tilt-recline wheelchair for four years. But during this time, Dr. Wahls did not give up. Instead she began reading the medical literature night after night, looking for her own answers about what drove disability in the setting of MS. She delved into the latest research on autoimmune disease and brain biology, and decided to get her vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids from the food she ate rather than pills and supplements. Dr. Wahls adopted a nutrient-rich Paleo diet, gradually refining and integrating it into a regimen of rich nourishing foods, neuromuscular stimulation, and the spin on a ketogenic diet that you're going to discover in this podcast. And amazingly, she healed herself. First, she walked slowly, then steadily, and then she biked eighteen miles in a single day. In November 2011, Dr. Wahls shared her remarkable recovery in . Now, in her new book "", Terry shares the exact details of the protocol that allowed her to reverse many of her symptoms, get back to her life, and embark on a new mission: to share the her protocol with others suffering from the ravages of multiple sclerosis and autoimmune and chronic diseases, but also people who simply want to maximize their performance, health and longevity. During our interview, you'll find out: -The science of why ketosis works for things like nervous system disorders, improving physical endurance, or healing the body. -How Terry used a ketogenic diet during her healing journey. -Why Terry need to modify the ketogenic diet, and what some of the potential dangers of a ketogenic diet actually are. -A "day in the life" of nutrient dense eating for ketosis. -The most important things to measure if you're going to do ketosis. Resources from this episode: - book - - - or (which has fish liver oil in it). - -Fasted, fat-burning, ketogenesis expert and nutritionist Barry Murray, who was and is now a nutrition consultant and coach for Pacific Elite Fitness!
