Are you ready to explore the future of data and AI? In our upcoming episode of Tech Talks Daily, I am thrilled to welcome Irfan Khan, Chief Product Officer at SAP, to discuss SAP's groundbreaking data and analytics portfolio, particularly the new SAP Data Sphere offering. Irfan brings a wealth of experience and insights, starting from his early interest in technology inspired by his father to his formative computing experiences with the BBC Micro and Amstrad CPC 464. His journey from CTO at Sybase to various sales roles at SAP has given him a unique customer-centric perspective that fuels his innovative approach to data and AI. Our conversation dives deep into the SAP Data Sphere, a revolutionary business virtual data fabric concept that allows for data federation without the need for physical data consolidation. This groundbreaking approach preserves data context and metadata, which are critical for training high-quality generative AI models. Irfan explains how Data Sphere leverages knowledge graphs and vector stores to enable contextual AI capabilities, allowing businesses to detect signals and patterns across disparate data sources for applications like supply chain optimization. One of the standout aspects of our discussion is the emphasis on data quality, lineage, and ethical use, which are paramount for the responsible deployment of generative AI. Irfan shares SAP's commitment to ethical AI, including the formation of an ethical AI committee to vet models before production use, and discusses the measures taken to prevent hallucinations, cultural biases, and maintain data integrity. Irfan also highlights real-world applications of SAP Data Sphere and generative AI, such as detecting early signals of supply chain disruptions and ethically screening candidates for recruitment. These examples showcase how generative AI is enhancing business applications across various industries, driving innovation, and supporting better decision-making. Looking ahead, Irfan paints an exciting picture of the future of data and AI, with rapid innovation from big tech players like Google, Meta, and OpenAI. He underscores the importance of continuous learning through bite-sized content and networking to stay ahead in this dynamic field. What steps can your business take to leverage the power of AI and contextual data? Tune in to this episode to gain valuable insights from Irfan Khan and discover how SAP's innovative solutions can transform your data management and AI strategies. After listening, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the role of generative AI in your business and how you plan to practice better data hygiene for responsible AI use.

Elliott Smith: Black Caps v Pakistan - Mark Chapman inspires New Zealand to emphatic bounceback victory

Early Edition with Kate Hawkesby

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 21, 2024 3:52

The Black Caps have responded in style, as Mark Chapman inspired New Zealand to a series-levelling seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in Rawalpindi. Just 24 hours after being bowled out for 90 to lose by seven wickets at the same venue, a heavily depleted Black Caps side flipped the script on their hosts, and chased down their target of 179 runs with ease. That chase was anchored by an unbeaten 87 from Chapman, who continued his love affair with Pakistan after being named man-of-the-series in New Zealand's 2-2 draw just over a year ago. Arriving at the crease at 53/2, Chapman scored a 29-ball half-century, and added a 117-run partnership with Dean Foxcroft (31 off 29) to all but get the Black Caps home. New Zealand's win was made all the more impressive by the fact the squad was depleted even further, as neither Ben Lister nor Josh Clarkson travelled to the ground after being struck by illness. As captain Michael Bracewell won the toss and opted to field first, the stand-in skipper would have been forgiven for ruing his decision as Pakistan made 178/4 from their 20 overs. While no Pakistan batter passed 50, partnerships of 55 between openers Babar Azam (37 off 29) and Saim Ayub (32 off 22) and 62 between Shadab Khan (41 off 20) and Irfan Khan (30 not out off 20) made up the bulk of the total. Ish Sodhi was the pick of the Kiwi attack, and took 2/25 from his four overs, as the rest of New Zealand's attack struggled to contain Pakistan. The pair of Zak Foulkes and Will O'Rourke both went wicketless in their first taste of the shortest format at international level. In reply, New Zealand's openers got off to their best start of the series, as Tim Seifert (21 off 16) and Tim Robinson (28 off 19) added 42 for the first wicket. Once they fell, though, the pair of Chapman and Foxcroft took over. In 42 balls, the pair added a 50 stand, but needed just 17 more to raise their century partnership as Chapman took over. The left-hander plundered nine boundaries and four sixes in his innings, and reached his seventh T20 international fifty in the process. Once Foxcroft went, though, caught and bowled by Abbas Afridi, New Zealand needed just nine runs from more than three overs. And after Jimmy Neesham found the rope with the final ball of the 18th over, Chapman sealed the win at the start of the 19th, and at the very least ensured the new-look Black Caps won't leave Pakistan empty-handed. Both teams will now enjoy three days off, as the series relocates from Rawalpindi to Lahore for games four and five. Alex Powell is an Online Sports Editor for the NZ Herald. Interesting Facts Biggest fact here is that it was after Pokiri. Industry hit curse is a known fact in Telugu film industry. No Telugu movie has ever escaped from it. People think its Pushpa but due to the high rates and low ticket prices, it was actually a loss venture in Telugu states. The core team of Okkadu and Arjun were replaced for the movie with the exception of Sreekar Prasad, Sekhar V Joesph was replaced y Tamil cameraman Balasubramaniem, Mani Sharma for Harris Jayaraj, and Thota Tharani for Anand Sai, The music was released simultaneously in 10 venues from five countries – India, USA, Australia, Singapore and Dubai on the morning of 21 October 2006. The producer of the film, Ashwini Dutt, arranged the use of a satellite transmission to relay the live audio release across the globe Only Telugu film of legendary and highly respected actor Irfan Khan ji, we miss you sir Before he became an actor, he started his own production company, Spirit Media. In the film industry, Rana was a bit of an exception. Belonging to the Daggubati family, he started as a special effects coordinator. Rana Daggubati won the State Nandi Award for Best Special Effects in 2006 for the Telugu film Sainikudu, as a Visual Effects Producer. Why did it fail Story - it's about mixing politics with student violence battling corruption within the state government. Siddartha knows that Pappu Yaddav is corrupt so he nominates his friend to run against him, typical bullshit of a political candidate who can't crush a fucking student who's bothering him. He hires his henchman Prakash Raj to take him down but it doesn't happen. Then to further disturb Pappu Yadav, he kidnaps Trisha and Stockholm syndrome occurs. But the question is why? Screenplay - terrible. Movie starts off well. It has the potential to be a commercial entertainer but none of the threads work. The threads about student politics, violence. Social commentary about political crimes for campaign purposes, love story, revenge, nothing gels properly. And mainly the movie has no excitement, its all boredom unlike Okkadu and Arjun when there is constant suspense and excitement to know ok, how will this end Direction - Gunashkear direction works for the opening sequence and Siddhartha's first meeting with pappy Yadav and then everything falls apart. No grip on the screenplay, story is clearly haywire, and BGM was terrible Harris Jayaraj copied Pirates main BGM. Technical departments which were flawless in Arjun and Okkadu are not present in Sainikudu at all. There's a Warangal Fort set they built used for a huge fight but for some reason it feels artificial and the actions sequences on the bridge and in climax are so bad. Hype - Pokiri rewrote 75 years of Telugu movie industry records and made 40 crores share and 75 crores gross. That's still more than most movies today. It's an unreal blockbuster so naturally people's expectations are that it will be as good or better than Pokiri. Even the slightest disappointment would result in a disaster which is exactly what happened. Movie was boring and very disappointing. Mahesh Babu's superstardom even couldn't save the movie from sinking. Also it being 3rd movie in Mahesh babu Gunashekar combo. Both movies have great fanbases and even though Arjun was above average movie with some loss, Gunashekar was still able to make the film interesting despite thin storyline. Final Thoughts - Harris Jayaraj the real MVP, the only reason why the movie is still relevant is due to the all time classic album. Every song is fire. My favorite is Orugalluke Pilla and Maayera. Andhra ni motham shake chesina paata.

“It really tugs at your heart in the shared experience of growing up with dual cultures - and then recognizing all that our parents had gone through” // “...and at every moment that loneliness was pervasive.” MMovies returns to talk about important films that explain the minority experience for the rest of our majority ears. THE NAMESAKE is known by many as the 2003 book to decode most of your Indian friends. Adapted in 2006 as a family by Mira Nair - this is a work that many of us have a LOT of feelings about (esp if you're a South Asian American boy between the ages of 25-45 years old). The film stars stars Kal Penn in the title role as Gogol Ganglani - alongside Zuleikha Robinson, Jacinda Barret as love interests, Sahira Nair as his sister, and Tabu + the late, great Irfan Khan who steal the film and bring us to tears as Gogol's immigrant parents. The story follows the life of a young Bengali boy as he grows into adulthood across two cultures. But unlike the book, the film is not as much an interior reflection of Gogol, but a broader take on the family origins and experience - where his parents take just as much the center stage. While the book really spoke to many of us in our early 20s, you can't help but watch the film in adulthood and see it from the perspective of the parents. Joining us today to talk about the Namesake is FrieMMd of the Pod, and our favorite Iranian Canadian by way of Ohio, Ida Abdalkhani. No tears this episode, just lots of the feels with this one. Hi! To explain myself, right of the bat, I wouldn’t say that I’m a man of many words, but of many voices! In essence, I am Harsh Joshi, and I can do wonders with my voice. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and simply put, I’m an admirer of voices, their nuances, and characters that lies within. I take pride in myself for being a mimicry artist. I love to bring smiles to people’s faces by bringing a totally different person into the picture. Being a mimicry artist, I can bring in the voices of the celebs that you love. Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Hrithik Roshan, you name it, I can do it! And the list doesn’t end there! In addition to the evergreen Bollywood heroes, I can mimic Sunny Deol, Nana Patekar, Sunil Shetty, Ajay Devgan, Abhay Deol, Irfan Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, and Imran Khan. Cranking my skills up a notch, I can mimic the lovely voices of Sonu Nigam, Anu Malik, Himesh Reshammiya, Arijit Singh, Kumar Sanu, Kailash Kher, Hari Haran, Adnan Sami, Farhan Akhtar, Lucky Ali, A R Rehman, and Shaan. If you love to see your favorite politicians cracking up some jokes, you are in for a treat! My repertoire includes Narendra Modi, Arvind Kejriwal, Yogi Adityanath, Amit Shah, and L.K.Advani. As Indians, Cricket flows through our veins. My love for cricket and the admiration for the best, I taught myself to mimic the voices of Sachin Tendulkar, M.S.Dhoni, Shahid Afridi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, and Imran Khan. I like to give a sense of character to the words I speak, and it has helped me a great deal in my voice over projects. The challenges are plenty for a voice-over artist and understanding them is the first step towards modeling yourself to fit in better with the trade. As a responsible voice-over artist, I take meticulous care to understand the context and overall feel of what the director wants from me. I am also aware of that fact that timing is critical for any voice over project, and I have trained myself to match my tempo with various movement speeds to get the perfect result. Voice modulation abilities always add a layer of realism to the voice that is being used on a video clip, and it always makes sure to get the work done well. It helps a great deal while recording for cartoons, movie trailers, radio commercials, telephone and video games. A positive approach is best for this business, that spawns over internet, documentaries, educational and audiobooks. The devil is in the details and knowing the right kind of modulation for the right type of application, makes the whole project a success. I am well versed in a variety of voice over services like commercials, E-Learning, Podcasts, Audio Books, Dubbing, Cartoons, Narrations, explainer Videos and the lot! As I mentioned before, I love to instill a sense of character to the work that I do. It was never a straight drive to perfection. I have made mistakes along the way, but I also took the time to learn from them. Personally, I believe having the quirks of being a mimicry artist has helped me a great in being an active voice-over artist. When I was first asked to take-up anchoring, it was a frightening moment. Being a mimicry artist, I never had a problem facing the crowd, but an anchor needs a specific set of skills, and quick wit is one of them. But once I was made a primary anchor, it was one of the most enjoyable experience I had on stage. I learned to embrace the spontaneity and the flexibility that comes with being an anchor. The most amazing part of being an anchor is undoubtedly the communication that I get with the audience. Humor always helps me to entice the audience, making them feel at ease and helping them have a good time!

"To a canary, a cat is a monster. We are just used to being the cat."As a species that dominates our planet with superior intelligence, human beings often forget about the monster in ourselves and take for granted our hegemony in the food chain. Stories about beasts of sheer size and brutal strength, like Godzilla, sometimes take us by surprise, but for most of us the lumbering kaiju looks more amusing than seriously frightening. On the other hand, smart predators with cunning and resource equal to mankind are a different story, because we homo sapiens are vulnerable against enemies with fangs and claws that can't be outsmarted. That's why the raptor that opened door was scary in Jurassic Park, while the T-Rex couple in "The Lost World" sequel was not.14 years after the last entry to the franchise, the 2015 addition "Jurassic World" has plenty of lessons to draw from. This time they've got the formula right. Indominus Rex, a genetically enhanced predator the size of a Tyrannosaurus rex, is concocted in a research lab as a new attraction for the dinosaur theme park. The combination of DNAs from various unidentified species yields the most lethal killer, the fear of which keeps viewers thrilled despite a stale format. There really isn't anything fresh to see apart from the humongous predator at large. Once again, it is human arrogance and greed that lead to the creation of the beast, once again the dinosaur whisperer scientist with good conscience gives out warnings in vain and once again innocent children need to survive the jaws. Lead actor Chris Pratt tries to play alpha among a pack of raptors, but he is given no chance to cast his pelvic sorcery. In the battle of teeth, humans have no place. In a movie that aims for "bigger, louder and more teeth", character development can be problematic. Chris Pratt is not the only casualty. Also at fault is the park owner Simon Masrani played by Irfan Khan - initially posing as an adorable boss who cares about staff and dinosaur welfare but later reduced to an irresponsible playboy consumed by corporate greed. The worst slip-up, however, is when one of the small boys breaks down over their parent's divorce, despite no previous subtext leading up to this point, nor is the subject addressed ever again thereafter. So compared to the well-organised dinosaur storyline, the human related narrative is almost deliberately ignored. For those of you who merely wish to see more teeth, "Jurassic World" offers a brilliantly executed story, just don't expect it to be perfect.
