THE SPLENDID BOHEMIANS PRESENT "DOUBLE TROUBLE" - IN SEARCH OF SOMETHING NOVEL: TWO MANIFESTATIONS OF GIDDY STRANGENESS FROM JERRY BLAVAT AND LARRY GROCE. DOUBLE DOWN!!

The “Novelty” song has deep roots in popular culture. Masters of the form, like Weird Al Yankovic, Warren Zevon, Tom Lehrer, Spike Jones, and Allen Sherman have illuminated our consciousness and tickled our sense of the absurd. How much WAS that doggie in the window?…., WTF is Marzy dotes and dozy dotes about?…,  They're coming to take me away, Haha…(that one actually scared me). Probably each of us can recall from childhood some goofy ditty that either made you feel smarter, or got stuck inside your head like RFK's brain worm. Let's give thanks to Doctor Demento for archiving and disseminating many of these gems for future generations, and my introduction to Larry Groce's Junk Food Junkie came from one of his collections. Jerry Blavat's One More Time, Back to School may not demonstrate the same amount of cleverness, but its delivered lustily by one of the premier DJs of his time. LARRY GROCEJunk Food Junkie comes from 1975, and is perfectly in key with today's anti-woke sentiments. But, Mr. Groce delivers his mockery with such gentleness and good humor that it creates a universal warmth devoid of malice. Yes, he intimates, you can try to be upright and health conscientious, but the reptilian brain in all of us needs to be satisfied - even if it has to happen under cover of darkness.  Hypocrisy is the target here, and Mr. Groce, cast as the titular shlemiel, puts himself first in line for ridicule. JERRY BLAVATJerry Blavat's “Horatio Alger” story reads like a Martin Scorsese screenplay. His colorful bio, recounting his journey from son of a Philly bookmaker, valet to Don Rickles, mob-connected DJ and club owner, to broadcasting Hall of Fame icon, could be the stuff of a Netflix series. Known as “the Big Boss with the Hot Sauce,” and “the Geater with the Heater,” Jerry swaggered through his bigger than life life like a toreador. But, lest we forget - it was always his love of those Philadelphian musical goodies - that made him a beloved home town super hero. 1965's One More Time Back to School, on the Cameo Parkway label, is an fascinating glimpse into his inexhaustible energy. It's delightfully sadistic as the singer declares the end of vacation time fun. Not only that, there is something in the edgy cacophony of its production, with the clanging cowbells, that evokes that end of summer feeling.

Rock & Roll Hall of FameA Tribute to My Guest This Week ~ Broadcast Radio Icon Jerry Blavat. He began his career as a 13 year old on the TV show Bandstand.Jerry is in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame & After over 50 years in broadcasting, STILL Rock Out Weekly on WVLT, online & at LIVE shows! In 1960, he started his own radio talk show on WCAM (AM), in Camden, New Jersey. (He won the show in a crap game). On a snowy night in mid January, pulling out a stack of records, he began entertaining listeners throughout the night, and the legend of "The Geator" was born. In the mid-sixties, reports had his audience at a half million teenagers per month. Much of Jerry's broadcasts in the early days were done on reel to reel tape. Recording the program in his garage studio, the tapes played while Blavat made personal appearances. In the mid-sixties, Jerry's broadcasts were also added for a time to the program schedule of WHAT. On that station, Blavat stated that he only made $18 a week ($1.50 per hour). Most of his audience didn't buy it, but it was true. The real money was at the hops, not on the air. However, Blavat knew he needed the airwaves to promote the appearances. In 1965, he produced and hosted his own TV show "The Discophonic Scene" on CBS' Philadelphia outlet WCAU-TV. From 1967-70, the show aired on WFIL-TV, Channel Six and was syndicated through Triangle Publications coast-to-coast in 40 markets. When the British Invasion came along, Jerry never became part of it. He didn't like format radio, never participated in it and has always been his own man. In 1966, Jerry said: "It had been hell during the Beatles reign, when there had been much pressure to get on the bandwagon. But I sensed that it just didn't have enough soul for my kids... So I finally gave in and played a few, and I got bombarded by phone calls saying 'Geator, what you doing, man?'" In April of 1972 he became one of the first on-air personalities on WCAU-FM, an oldies station. In 1987, Blavat moved to "Philly Gold Radio," WPGR. It became "Geator Gold Radio" in April of 1992 when Blavat purchased the station. Until this day, Jerry is seen on many local and national TV shows. He has been with PBS on their Doo Wop specials working with the show's producer, T. J. Lubinsky. When the shows aired locally over WHYY-TV, Jerry Blavat was the area's host. Throughout his career, Jerry has appeared on "The Tonight Show," "The Mike Douglas Show," "The Joey Bishop Show," "The Mod Squad," and "The Monkees." Jerry Blavat has appeared in feature films including "Desperately Seeking Susan," "Baby, It's You," and "Cookie." After WPGR, the Geator then built studios in Center City. He currently broadcasts his Cruisin' 92.1, WVLT. In 1998, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia's "Hall of Fame". He still owns his own nightclub called Memories in Margate, NJ He works at various clubs most nights & has a show yearly at the Kimmel Center. While many refer to James Brown as "the hardest working man in show business," the title should belong to Jerry Blavat, who said many years ago: "I may not be the best jock in the world, but I've got my own built-in excitement meter.© 2024 Building Abundant Success!!2024 All Rights ReservedJoin Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy:  https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

In 1962, one such demo was presented to Scepter Records, which launched a hit-filled 12 -year association with the label.Known as the artist who “bridged the gap,” Warwick's soulful blend of pop, gospel and R&B music transcended race, culture, and musical boundaries. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (01/20/2023): 3:05pm- While surveying storm damage in California on Thursday, President Joe Biden briefly answered questions about his mishandling of classified documents. Biden claimed the documents were simply “filed in the wrong place” and that he did not have any regrets. He insisted “there's no ‘there' there.”  3:10pm- During Friday's press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre asserted that President Biden, despite mishandling classified documents at the conclusion of the Obama presidency, takes classified information “very, very seriously.”  3:15pm- CNN Intelligence and National Security reporter Katie Bo Lillis and host Kaitlin Collins made excuses for President Biden's mishandling of classified documents—explaining that “classified spillage” happens “everyday” with perpetrators typically never reprimanded.   3:25pm- According to a Fox News report, the Secret Service possesses a list of visitors to President Biden's Delaware homes. Interestingly, during a press briefing on January 12th, Karine Jean-Pierre refused to answer any question about the existence of a “visitors log” for Biden's Wilmington home where misplaced classified documents were found. But just because the Secret Service does not officially refer to it as a “visitor log” doesn't mean a comprehensive record of visitor information doesn't exist. So, why hasn't the information been made publicly available yet?  3:40pm- Jimmy Failla—stand-up comedian & Fox News Radio host—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss this weekend's Eagles-Giants game, the intricacies of cultural appropriation, and Al Gore's unhinged rant about rain bombs and boiling oceans. You can hear The Best of Jimmy Failla every Saturday on 1210 WPHT.  4:05pm- New Jersey State Senator Ed Durr joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his fight to prevent legislation that is designed to restrict the 2nd Amendment rights of citizens of the Garden State. Sen. Durr reminds listeners that our inherent rights don't come from government—government exists to protect individual rights, and it certainly shouldn't be weaponized to take rights away.  4:30pm- According to a report from Daily Caller, Dr. Anthony Fauci played a prominent role in attempting to disprove the “lab leak theory” explanation for the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.   5:00pm- What are the elites listening to at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland?  5:30pm- Kamala Harris attempts to explain how electricity works + Henry gets yelled at for playing too many Alec Baldwin clips.  5:45pm- On Thursday, Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announced that Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed have both been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film “Rust.”  5:50pm- While speaking at the World Economic Forum, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres proclaimed that oil companies are “inconsistent with human survival.”  6:05pm- Radio host Mike Opelka joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Madison Square Garden's jumbotron referring to Michael Imperioli as the “Actor” from “White Lotus”…what about The Sopranos??? Opelka can now be heard 7pm to 10pm starting this Saturday on 1210 WPHT.  6:30pm- Country music star John Rich won a lawsuit over a concert venue that intended to require the audience to present proof of vaccination in order to gain entry. 6:35pm- According to reporting from The Philadelphia Inquirer, Republican Dave McCormick is exploring the idea of running against U.S. Senator Bob Casey Jr. in 2024. In 2022, McCormick lost the Republican nomination to fill Pat Toomey's vacated Senate seat.  6:45pm- Radio legend Jerry Blavat has passed away at age 82.  6:50pm- During an interview with CNBC, journalist Ben Smith quickly dismissed “conspiracy theories” about the World Economic Forum attempting to push globalization and the normalization of things like “eating bugs.”  6:55pm- Who Won Social Media?

The title of Miss Philadelphia awards upwards of $130,000 in prizes, including a full scholarship to Cabrini University! Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Its Summer & I'm Rockin Out & Enjoying the Food, Travel & Weather My Guest This Week is Broadcast Radio Icon Jerry Blavat. While many refer to James Brown as "the hardest working man in show business," the title should belong to Jerry Blavat, who said many years ago: "I may not be the best jock in the world, but I've got my own built-in excitement meter."
