The Four Tops formed in Detroit in 1953, originally named The Four Aims. They're a cornerstone of American pop music and helped propel the Motown label to international recognition. Although ostensibly a soul vocal group, I find the band interesting in how broad they were stylistically and in the variety of material they adopted. The current incarnation of The Four Tops are touring this year with The Temptations. They're hitting the UK this summer, with a run that includes a date at the Royal Albert Hall. I'm joined this episode by Lawrence Payton Jr. from the current line-up, the son of founding member Lawrence Payton who passed away in 1997. Lawrence had a lot to say about growing up around his dad's band, and why the Tops should still be on the road in 2026. He was great company. In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop interviews Aurelio Gialluca, an economist and full stack data professional who works across finance, retail, and AI as both a data engineer and machine learning developer, while also exploring human consciousness and psychology. Their wide-ranging conversation covers the intersection of science and psychology, the unique cultural characteristics that make Argentina a haven for eccentrics (drawing parallels to the United States), and how Argentine culture has produced globally influential figures from Borges to Maradona to Che Guevara. They explore the current AI landscape as a "centralizing force" creating cultural homogenization (particularly evident in LinkedIn's cookie-cutter content), discuss the potential futures of AI development from dystopian surveillance states to anarchic chaos, and examine how Argentina's emotionally mature, non-linear communication style might offer insights for navigating technological change. The conversation concludes with Gialluca describing his ambitious project to build a custom water-cooled workstation with industrial-grade processors for his quantitative hedge fund, highlighting the practical challenges of heat management and the recent tripling of RAM prices due to market consolidation.Timestams00:00 Exploring the Intersection of Psychology and Science02:55 Cultural Eccentricity: Argentina vs. the United States05:36 The Influence of Religion on National Identity08:50 The Unique Argentine Cultural Landscape11:49 Soft Power and Cultural Influence14:48 Political Figures and Their Cultural Impact17:50 The Role of Sports in Shaping National Identity20:49 The Evolution of Argentine Music and Subcultures23:41 AI and the Future of Cultural Dynamics26:47 Navigating the Chaos of AI in Culture33:50 Equilibrating Society for a Sustainable Future35:10 The Patchwork Age: Decentralization and Society35:56 The Impact of AI on Human Connection38:06 Individualism vs. Collective Rules in Society39:26 The Future of AI and Global Regulations40:16 Biotechnology: The Next Frontier42:19 Building a Personal AI Lab45:51 Tiers of AI Labs: From Personal to Industrial48:35 Mathematics and AI: The Foundation of Innovation52:12 Stochastic Models and Predictive Analytics55:47 Building a Supercomputer: Hardware InsightsKey Insights1. Argentina's Cultural Exceptionalism and Emotional Maturity: Argentina stands out globally for allowing eccentrics to flourish and having a non-linear communication style that Gialluca describes as "non-monotonous systems." Argentines can joke profoundly and be eccentric while simultaneously being completely organized and straightforward, demonstrating high emotional intelligence and maturity that comes from their unique cultural blend of European romanticism and Latino lightheartedness.2. Argentina as an Underrecognized Cultural Superpower: Despite being introverted about their achievements, Argentina produces an enormous amount of global culture through music, literature, and iconic figures like Borges, Maradona, Messi, and Che Guevara. These cultural exports have shaped entire generations worldwide, with Argentina "stealing the thunder" from other nations and creating lasting soft power influence that people don't fully recognize as Argentine.3. AI's Cultural Impact Follows Oscillating Patterns: Culture operates as a dynamic system that oscillates between centralization and decentralization like a sine wave. AI currently represents a massive centralizing force, as seen in LinkedIn's homogenized content, but this will inevitably trigger a decentralization phase. The speed of this cultural transformation has accelerated dramatically, with changes that once took generations now happening in years.4. The Coming Bifurcation of AI Futures: Gialluca identifies two extreme possible endpoints for AI development: complete centralized control (the "Mordor" scenario with total surveillance) or complete chaos where everyone has access to dangerous capabilities like creating weapons or viruses. Finding a middle path between these extremes is essential for society's survival, requiring careful equilibrium between accessibility and safety.5. Individual AI Labs Are Becoming Democratically Accessible: Gialluca outlines a tier system for AI capabilities, where individuals can now build "tier one" labs capable of fine-tuning models and processing massive datasets for tens of thousands of dollars. This democratization means that capabilities once requiring teams of PhD scientists can now be achieved by dedicated individuals, fundamentally changing the landscape of AI development and access.6. Hardware Constraints Are the New Limiting Factor: While AI capabilities are rapidly advancing, practical implementation is increasingly constrained by hardware availability and cost. RAM prices have tripled in recent months, and the challenge of managing enormous heat output from powerful processors requires sophisticated cooling systems. These physical limitations are becoming the primary bottleneck for individual AI development.7. Data Quality Over Quantity Is the Critical Challenge: The main bottleneck for AI advancement is no longer energy or GPUs, but high-quality data for training. Early data labeling efforts produced poor results because labelers lacked domain expertise. The future lies in reinforcement learning (RL) environments where AI systems can generate their own high-quality training data, representing a fundamental shift in how AI systems learn and develop.

On this episode of "Florida Matters," you'll learn about The Chitlin Circuit, how it shaped the sound of jazz, blues, and rock, and how it paved the way for the music industry we see today. We revisit a conversation brought to you last February about the network of clubs that Black performers toured in the segregated South. Coming up- you'll hear how the artists who performed on the circuit shaped the sound of blues, rock n roll, jazz and pop that came after. And how contemporary artists are paying homage to those performers. If you watched the Grammys this year, you probably caught Beyonce's acceptance speech, when, at long last she landed the album of the year. Beyonce said she hoped to keep pushing forward and opening doors. And her album- Cowboy Carter, which won the Grammy for best country album- is also a door to the past. The album tour, Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin Circuit tour, evoked the network of clubs and venues that Black musicians and performers toured during segregation last Century. And she references the circuit in the track Ya Ya.Joining the conversation on Florida Matters: Dr Michelle Scott, professor of History at University of Maryland Baltimore County, and Dr Nashid Madyun, executive director Florida Humanities.Scott was also part of a panel discussion presented by WUSF and Arts Axis Florida earlier this year about the Chitlin Circuit in Tampa. If you want to learn more about this chapter in Tampa's history- check out jazz on arts axis florida. Riley Keough is an Emmy nominated actress and producer, starring in hit shows like “Daisy Jones and the Six.” She's also part of one of the most famous families in American Pop culture. Born Cory DeWayne Robinson January 23 1975, This self produced arsenal of talent has been compared to the stylings of great artists' like Usher, Donell Jones, Ginuwine, Sam Cooke, Terence Trent Darby and Musiq Soul child just to name a few. By the pairing up of urban beats, clever arrangements and smooth but sometimes raspy soulful lyrics, Cory comes with the type of sound that one can only call nothing but absolute genius. Cory first set off to join the ranks of some of the industries tightest urban R&B artist, He was scouted and signed to the Hawaiian based Record label “Homeless Records” from which brought him notable exposure and a number of head nods from labels such as "LaFace Records". With the album “Tell me” Robinson was seen in various performances including his first national televised competition where he was challenged by American Pop and R&B singer songwriter “Neyo” on MTV's prelude to American Idol called the “The Cut” (then hosted by TLC's Lisa "Left eye" Lopez), while also been chosen to open for artist such as Brian McKnight. Cory's first independent project "The Lady disk" gave us just a taste of the vibe Cory Robinson could bring to the industry. With its cool and sometimes seductive way of story telling, the lyrics seem to jump out of the speakers and into your imagination.

We had the pleasure of interviewing VeeAlwaysHere over Zoom video!Producer, Songwriter, and Recording Artist, VeeAlwaysHere, recently dropped his EP, ego: playlist I.This EP was a way to prove and challenge himself towards becoming as versatile as a producer, songwriter, and artist VeeAlwaysHere can become. He states; “Not only did I want to let go of my usual writing and producing habits, but also sounds, subject matter and styles that I generally gravitate towards in my process. This project is all about me being entirely outside of my comfort zone, and the title EGO symbolizes the idea of me being comfortable in a variety of different genres as a musician. EGO is about the music artist that I want to be and have always envisioned myself being one day.”Hailing from Siberian Russia, VeeAlwaysHere has always had a great passion for music, and a heavy influence from American Pop music. The ability to tell a story in its most vulnerable and raw way moved him despite the heavy language barrier. As a child, VeeAlwaysHere pushed through the language barrier to write songs, however, because he couldn't speak English - they were initially just gibberish. While having mastered the English language in a mere 2 and a half years, VeeAlwaysHere is now a self-taught musician who handles his production, writing, recording, and mixing. “From start to finish the entire song is my fingerprint all throughout. I really like to focus on an emotion or a feeling as a starting point of any record.”We want to hear from you!
