In our latest episode we kick off with the biggest film of the week, PREY, the new Predator movie in which the alien hunter sets his sights on a Comanche tribe. (Prey is currently available on Hulu or Disney+), Meanwhile, over on Netflix there's CARTER, a hyperkinetic action movie about a Korean agent with no past memories. Take a listen to here our thoughts on it! I have to fly solo on the next review, as i was the only person to have managed to watch the new western, THE LAST SON - take a listen to hear my opinions! KING KNIGHT is the lasted pairing of actor Matthew Gray Gubler and Richard Bates Jr, and there are some very divided opinions on the panel! THE VOICES (aka The Free Fall) is a new horror film co-starring Shawn Ashmore and directed by Adam Stilwell, who made one of my personal fave fakumentaries The Triangle. Our Short Shot is SCOOTY - click the link for the whole 15 mins, you won't regret it! Finally our DTV Throwback is REIGO, THE DEEP-SEA MONSTER vs. THE BATTLESHIP YAMATO, a low budget attempt at making a Kaiju movie without a monster suit! The journey of finding oneself can be a very stressful, a very long, and even a sad journey. Behavioral health can even be an issue for those who seem to have all their sh*t together. Even popular people have their so called “demons” or damage. The knew indy film that IMDB calls a horror comedy, KING KNIGHT (2022), follows a group of such folk who seem to be just that … lost. From IMDB: Thorn and Willow appear to have it all as the revered high priest and priestess of a coven of new age witches. But a secret from Thorn's past throws their lives into turmoil and sends them on a trippy, hilarious journey. The film is the latest from director Richard Bates, Jr. who is probably best known for his 2012 film EXCISION. KING KNIGHT stars Matthew Gray Gubler (CRIMINAL MINDS) and Angela Sarafyan (Westworld). After doing the festival circuit, the movie was released everywhere in Q1 of 2022 getting some decent buzz by those critics who saw it. Your co-hosts take a look at this interesting film and give their thoughts.
Immortalized as Leland Palmer in David Lynch's Twin Peaks (in 1990-91, 2017 and in the 1992 prequel feature), Ray Wise has appeared in hundreds of movies and TV shows...and he still loves what he does. He tells Leonard and Jessie that he set his sights on being a professional actor in the fourth grade. That goal was met years ago, with roles on such TV series as Love of Life, The Young and the Restless, 24, The Reaper (as The Devil) and Fresh Off the Boat, along with movies like Swamp Thing, X-Men: First Class and Good Night and Good Luck. He even voiced Commissioner Gordon in the latest Batman animated feature, Batman: The Killing Joke. Ray is a delight to talk to and the living definition of the term “working actor.” His latest feature, now available on VOD, is King Knight with Matthew Gray Gubler.
KING KNIGHT writer & director Richard Bates, Jr. stops by to talk about getting a quirky indie feature like this made, drawing on his knowledge of Wiccan culture to build the foundation for journeys of self-discovery for the characters, and much more. What do you hope for in a horror-comedy, more horror or more comedy? Let us know! Send Summer an email, or leave a message in the comments below!

The Video Monsters share their thoughts on the 13th annual Knoxville Horror Film Festival, which was hosted Oct. 21st - 24th at the Parkway Drive-In and Central Cinema in Knoxville, TN. Sadly, only one-third of our Monster triumvirate were able to make it down for a day of the festival. But, Nathan is happy to report that his return to the cinema -- after an almost two-year absence -- was even more glorious than he anticipated. Tears may have been shed. Nathan shares his thoughts on the short films THE LAKE PARASITE and VERIFIED and features: KING KNIGHT, MAD GOD, and HELLBENDER. Meanwhile, since we all couldn't make it to the festival in person, we had a little KHFF-at-home experience and discuss our recent watches of some of the classic films that screened this year, including POPCORN (1991), TRICK OR TREAT (1986), and POSSESSION (1981). So grab your vaccine card, hit the concession stand, snag some Central Cinema merch, and prepare yourself for juvenile jokes about Sam Neill's ass because that's how we celebrate the most wonderful time of the year at the Knoxville Horror Film Festival! If you enjoyed this episode, come join the Video Monsters crew on Discord!! Hangout episodes are live (and unedited!) every Tuesday night starting around 9:00pm EST. Listen and chat along with us in the Discord chat and we'll even give you a shoutout on the episode! Thorn and Willow have a happy life. They love each other, they are the High Priest and Priestess of a mostly stable Coven and Thorn has a semi-successful bird bath shop online. But despite the relationship problems their Coven occasionally comes to them with and the fact that even with persistence, his wife Willow may not be ready to have a child. They are happy. Until Thorn receives an email with direct ties to his life before becoming a witch. Written & Directed by Richard Bates Jr. Our final Toronto After Dark 2021 review. Thank you so much for listening! Barbara Crampton is one of the most iconic names in horror. Her latest movie King Knight is a little different. Making its world premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival, the outrageous comedy sees Crampton in a different type of role. The legendary actress drops in to talk her new movie, the acceptance of horror, and her future.August is Fantasy Horror month and we being with a strange and wonderful sequel.A few weeks back we talked about Blood Red Sky. We agreed that it had great looking vampires and was a fun movie. With news of the movie setting records on Netflix, we talk about what it means for similar horror stories. One of things we liked about the movie, was the setting. Will there be more scary films set in cramped spaces?Rising Wolf is a science fiction hostage drama with a really neat premise. It also has a good look, some great stunt work, and a strong lead performance. So why didn't we like it? We talk style over substance, torture in Young Adult stories, and what may be the worse shared universe ever. The Fantasia Film Festival has long been known for its great library of genre films. One of the most most anticipated is King Knight, a wild comedy about a high priest whose dark secret has been discovered. Barbara Crampton talks about her role in the film and where horror is headed. We close the show with our first movie for Fantasy Horror month. Aside from rumors about munchkins committing suicide, The Wizard of Oz is a saccharine sweet movie. It's 1985 sequel is a whole other animal. Return to Oz is filled wit dark and twisted visuals, a new cast of characters, a mangy mutt, and...no music? Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Loved having this conversation with Shane Brady; actor, magician and complete legend, who's been in a bunch of my favourite films including The Endless, Spring, Doctor Sleep & Synchronic.Support the show (https://ko-fi.com/miztrujillo)I initially stumbled across Shane's name repeatedly through powerhouse indie directors Aaron Moorhead & Justin Benson's incredible filmography. I'm a massive fan of their films and kept seeing Shane's name pop up, playing incredibly memorable characters that really stuck with me. I knew I was looking forward to hearing about his career, but I wasn't expecting to have such a great time chatting. I fought the Law, and the Law won! Here comes that intimidating brainiac, the King or Knight of Swords. His is an incisive, restless mind, quick to take up pursuit and flexible to a fault - yet once he makes up his mind, no mercy will temper his decision. Representing the first two decans of Gemini (and the last one of Taurus) in court and everywhere else, he sees a world in black and white, one whose rules must conform to his will. We discuss his relationship to the 7 of Pentacles and 8 and 9 of Swords, twins and tragedies, stubbornness vs. mutability, decision and choice, the trickster nature of Mercury, the "chimaera buzzing in a vacuum," his missing decan, "Ruin", specific fire in primal air, world of Yetzirah, swallows, helicopters, inspiration without reflection, King David and Goliath's sword, Robert E. Lee, the geomantic figure Albus, I Ching hexagram 32 ("héng") , persevering/enduring, butterflies as metamorphosis, and grading. (For a broad overview of the courts be sure to check out Episode 32, the King/Knight of Wands episode.) To learn more about the suit of Swords, the world of Yetzirah, the fiery powers of Thoth Knights/Rider Waite Smith Kings, the sephira Chokmah, the color schemes of the cards, and so much else, be sure to visit us at www.patreon.com/fortuneswheelhouse. Here is the Lord of the Waves and Waters! It's the King of Cups, as he's called in Rider Waite Smith - or the Knight of Cups, as he's called in Thoth. (For a broad overview of the courts be sure to check out Episode 32, the King/Knight of Wands episode.) Associated with the 'fiery' part of water, his is an ephemeral and brilliant nature, a reflected charisma. Of all the heroic leaders of the courts, his calling is the most spiritual. What is the nature of his mystical quest? What rainbows does he chase as he races over the sparkling sea? In this episode we speak about his relationship to the 7 of Swords and the 8 and 9 of Cups, as well as to the major arcana: The Star and the Moon. We consider the will to dream, the gifts of poetry, the call to chivalry. We speak of gurus and diplomats, peacocks and snakes, Charlemagne and the Suicide King, fishy feet and wavy crowns, Pegasus and Bellerophon, the Grail quest and the elixir of immortality. To learn more about the suit of Cups, the world of Briah, the fiery powers of Thoth Knights/Rider Waite Smith Kings, the sephira Chokmah, the color schemes of the cards, and so much else, be sure to visit us at www.patreon.com/fortuneswheelhouse.
