Black Isis & Kali: Secrets of the Pythian Priestess Unleashed – The Dark Goddess Rises!

Host: Jason Rigby   Guest: Ashley M. Ryan (Pythian Priestess)   Guest Bio: Ashley M. Ryan, known as Pythian Priestess, is an initiated priestess in a Hermetic Order dedicated to the Goddess Auset (Isis). With over half her life dedicated to studying and practicing magick and witchcraft, she rose to TikTok fame in 2019 and founded the Pythian Mystery School in 2020. Ashley is a spiritual leader, educator, and advocate for reclaiming the sacred feminine in its wholeness—light and shadow alike.   Episode Overview: In this powerful and thought-provoking episode, Jason Rigby welcomes back Ashley M. Ryan, the Pythian Priestess, to discuss her evolving journey as a spiritual leader and the fierce, unapologetic nature of the divine feminine. Ashley shares her insights on sacred rage, the commodification of spirituality, and the importance of integrating the shadow self. Drawing from ancient archetypes like Black Isis, Kali, and the Black Madonna, she offers practical rituals and wisdom for women seeking wholeness in a world that often dilutes the sacred. The conversation explores themes of truth, resilience, and the balance of light and shadow, challenging the "love and light" narrative with a call to embrace the wild and transformative aspects of spirituality.   Key Themes:   1. Sacred Rage and the Warrior Archetype Ashley steps into the "warrior archetype" as a woman, not to destroy, but to defend truth, the sacred, and the mysteries (01:40). She connects this to her astrological birth chart (Saturn and Mars in the sixth house), emphasizing service and discipline (01:40).   2. The Dilution of Spirituality Ashley expresses grief over the commodification of spirituality, watching it become a "branded ATM" rather than a transformative tool (02:35). She critiques spiritual bypassing and the avoidance of pain, especially post-LA fires (03:32).   3. The Dark Goddess and Wholeness Referencing Dancing in the Flames by Woodman and Dickinson, Ashley explains the absence of the dark goddess in modern society and its damaging effects (04:41). Archetypes like Kali, Black Isis, and the Black Madonna embody resilience, fierce love, and the integration of suffering (16:06, 20:00).   4. Thumos: The Spirited Fire of the Soul Ashley introduces the ancient Greek concept of Thumos—righteous anger that defends truth and honor—contrasting it with the "love and light" narrative (10:39). She ties this to Plato's chariot allegory and the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot's Chariot card, symbolizing balance between the soul's appetites and higher aspirations (14:05).   5. Embracing the Shadow Ashley emphasizes that the shadow is not an enemy but a part of wholeness, urging listeners to alchemize pain into wisdom (33:50, 35:15). She shares a personal story of a nightmare at 15, revealing unexpressed rage and the unconscious mind's role in healing (23:04).   6. Practical Rituals for Integration Ashley offers two rituals: mirror gazing with a candle to confront the soul (28:38) and scrying with a black bowl to uncover unhealed wounds (30:11). She stresses the importance of action post-ritual, such as therapy or inner child work (32:53).   7. Fear and the Occult Addressing fear around witchcraft and the occult, Ashley attributes it to societal conditioning and the rejection of feminine archetypes (42:16). She invokes Ma'at (balance and justice) as a source of boldness to face suffering and reclaim the sacred (40:42).   Detailed Timestamps: 00:01 - Introduction: Jason welcomes Ashley back, noting her journey as Pythian Priestess and the success of her prior episode. 00:41 - Ashley's Current Calling: Ashley discusses stepping into the warrior archetype to defend truth and the sacred, inspired by her birth chart (Saturn and Mars in the sixth house). 02:35 - Sacred Rage and the Pythian Mystery School: Ashley reflects on the commodification of spirituality post-LA fires and her mission to restore its depth through the Pythian Mystery School and her podcast, The Occult Unveiled. 04:41 - The Dark Goddess: Introduction to Dancing in the Flames and the societal lack of the dark goddess, with Ashley advocating for women to "take up the sword" against patriarchal imbalance (05:25). 10:39 - Thumos and Truth: Ashley explains Thumos as righteous anger, linking it to Plato's chariot allegory and the tarot's Chariot card (14:05). She ties it to four virtues: wisdom, justice, courage, and temperance (12:00). 16:06 - Black Isis and Black Madonna: Ashley explores Black Isis as a symbol of suffering and resilience (17:13) and the Black Madonna as wisdom and realism (20:00), forged in chaos and fierce love. 22:08 - Teaching Wholeness at Pythian Mystery School: Ashley uses dreams and meditations to help students confront the unconscious and embrace the dark goddess (22:36). She shares a personal nightmare as an example (23:04). 28:38 - Practical Rituals: - Ritual 1: Mirror gazing with incense and a candle to see beyond the mask (28:38). - Ritual 2: Scrying with a black bowl and an invocation to uncover unhealed parts (30:11). 33:50 - Embracing the Shadow: Ashley reframes the shadow as a source of strength, not evil, and shares her hypnosis therapy experience to alchemize pain (37:07). 38:40 - Fostering Righteous Anger in the Mystery School: Through meditations, students meet archetypes and receive symbolic gifts (daggers, keys), fostering self-understanding (39:42). 42:16 - Overcoming Fear of the Occult: Ashley attributes fear to societal rejection of feminine archetypes and credits Ma'at for her boldness (40:42). 47:32 - Where to Find Ashley: Ashley shares links: pythianmysteryschool.com, Etsy (Pythian Priestess) for tarot readings, and YouTube for Pause with Pythian and free classes.   Notable Quotes: Ashley on Sacred Rage: "There is a lot of rage right now in our society... It is a warrior for truth. It's a warrior for the sacred and to defend the mysteries." (01:40) On Spirituality's Dilution: "I'm watching it become an ATM for people. It's lost its meaning and it's a tool that should be used." (02:35) On the Dark Goddess: "Light is blinding. Light hurts. It's about breaking through illusion." (10:11) On Thumos: "It's the passion and the fire in my soul to bring back the sacred into the world." (14:05) On the Shadow: "You can turn the poison into medicine because the change in the integration is saying, ‘Okay, so this is the symptom.'” (37:07)   Resources Mentioned: Book: Dancing in the Flames by Marion Woodman and Elinor Dickinson (available on Amazon, eBay, and Internet Archive). Pythian Mystery School: pythianmysteryschool.com Podcast: Pause with Pythian (on YouTube as Pythian Priestess). Tarot Readings: Etsy (search "Pythian Priestess"). Social Media: TikTok, Instagram, Blue Sky, YouTube (@PythianPriestess).   Actionable Takeaways: Confront Your Soul: Try Ashley's mirror-gazing ritual with a candle and incense to see beyond your mask (28:38). Uncover the Unconscious: Use a scrying bowl with an invocation to reveal unhealed wounds, then act on the insights (30:11). Honor Your Shadow: Recognize rage, jealousy, or pain as parts of you needing compassion, not rejection (33:50). Embrace Fierce Love: Reflect on how suffering has forged your resilience, drawing inspiration from Black Isis or Kali (16:06). Join the Journey: Explore Ashley's free meditations on Pause with Pythian or enroll in the Pythian Mystery School (47:32).   Closing Thoughts: This episode is a bold call to reclaim the sacred feminine in its entirety—fierce, wild, and whole. Ashley M. Ryan, as Pythian Priestess, challenges listeners to move beyond superficial spirituality and embrace the transformative power of the dark goddess. Whether through rituals, shadow work, or her teachings at the Pythian Mystery School, she offers a path to truth and resilience in a world craving balance.

I'm chatting today with Lalania Simone about Lalania's newest deck, Tarot of the Cosmic Seed. In an effort to decolonize the tarot, remove outdated ideas of hierarchy, and shift ingrained gender norms, Lalania, founder of Alchemy Ritual Goods, has created a lush and vibrant deck with unique imagery and symbolism and an array of people and cultures. Having renamed the royalty cards—including the Hierophant, Emperor, Empress, and the court cards—Lalania has expanded their interpretation into energy signatures rather than personality types. The result is a deeply diverse spiritual tool, a bridge to the mysterious and the esoteric, as well as a guide to the everyday. Using the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition as a foundation, this deck offers a twist: there is a twenty-third card added to the Major Arcana—The Cosmic Seed, a representative of us all as infinite, cosmic spirits, enmeshed in sacred flesh for a time on this Earth. Find Lalania: Buy Tarot of the Cosmic Seed: https://amzn.to/3VkQb2j Instagram: @the.cosmicseed www.lalaniasimone.com Lalania is an artist and entrepreneur on a path of personal expansion and collective liberation. Their work here on earth is to awaken to the fullness of my divine presence, and to experience the pure divine potential in every person and thing that surrounds them. Lalania is the author of Urban Soul Warrior: Self Mastery in the Midst of the Metropolis, the creatix of Tarot of the Cosmic Seed, and co-owner of a magical BIWOC owned metaphysical shop called Alchemy Ritual Goods. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/witch-wednesdays/support

Here's what The Fool tarot card means in a reading, tarot spread, or tarot manifestation.  There is no memorization needed. There is no formula to figure out. This is a super-easy, super-powerful lesson.   In today's easy tarot lesson we look to see the screws hidden in The Fool card. First off, can we derive meaningful rom the NAME of this card? Well . .  yes, and no. But surprisingly yes. And what is up with that dog? Where did that dog come from? (hint: this was not in the original art, but was added way back around 1450 CE). And why a cliff? The old versions mentioned nothing about a cliff! This was something Arthur Edward Waite changed. This is not in the core meaning of the card! But that is a clue in and of itself. We are in fact reading the modern images, not the "ancient" ones (hint: the tarot is NOT from Egypt — the pyramids are). But there is a lot of information hidden in plain sight right there in the image. THERE IS NOTHING TO MEMORIZE. The secrets of The Fool tarot card are right in front of us. look at the way he is dressed. By the way, he has some of the fanciest clothing in all of the tarot. Did you know he was a prince? We examine the secrets of this card, and also how to LEARN any card (not memorize keywords) by learning to look at the images. This is a short but powerful revelation of what The Fool tarot card means in any spread you cast. We are in fact reading the modern images, not the "ancient" ones (hint: the tarot is NOT from Egypt — the pyramids are). But there is a lot of information hidden in plain sight right there in the image.THERE IS NOTHING TO MEMORIZE. The secrets of The Fool tarot card are right in front of us. look at the way he is dressed. By the way, he has some of the fanciest clothing in all of the tarot. Did you know he was a prince? (of sorts) Also look at his bag, the rose in his hand (it is the only white rose in the [ "Rider" } Waite-Smith tarot). We examine the secrets of this card, and also how to LEARN any card (not memorize keywords) by learning to look at the images. This is a short but powerful revelation of what The Fool tarot card means in any spread you cast. Take notes, because after this lesson you will never go back to guessing again. Also, if you have any questions, we are always here to help! This is actually an excerpt from a now-retired course I used to have called Intro to Tarot. You'll get all the backstory of that in this episode, but the main content here is about the history of the Tarot going all the way back to a syncretic figure called "Hermes Trismegistus" who was not a singular person but rather a collective of writing by powerful magi, like how Homer is not actually one writer but ratherthe combined works of several bards over centuries...It's mysterious and fascinating and I hope you enjoy this sweet lil artifact from my archive! In "Exploring Tarot Reading Systems: A Comparative Analysis of Rider-Waite-Smith, White Snake, and Thoth," the article delves into the rich history and diverse interpretations of tarot cards. The Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) Tarot, created by Pamela Colman Smith and A.E. Waite, stands as the most widely recognized deck in the Western world. Its illustrative imagery, structured symbolism, and intuitive interpretation make it accessible and versatile for practitioners of all levels. Contrasting this, the White Snake Tarot, crafted by Jessika Fancy, offers a contemporary interpretation, drawing from diverse cultural influences. Its eclectic imagery and emphasis on personal interpretation celebrate cultural diversity and emotional depth, inspiring creativity and introspection in readings. Finally, the Thoth Tarot, born from Aleister Crowley's esoteric philosophy and Lady Frieda Harris's visionary artwork, offers a profound journey into the subconscious and divine realms. With its esoteric symbolism, astrological correspondences, and Thelemic philosophy, the Thoth Tarot serves as a tool for spiritual transformation and inner alchemy. Each system—RWS, White Snake, and Thoth—brings unique strengths to the table, catering to different preferences and needs in divination and self-discovery. RWS excels in accessibility and tradition, while White Snake inspires creativity and personalization, and Thoth delves deep into esoteric symbolism and spiritual transformation. Together, they represent a rich tapestry of tarot's potential, offering seekers a diverse array of pathways to explore the mysteries of the soul. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pcspnetwork/message

This episode is our single card tarot forecast for February 18th - March 19th 2024. 1 card for the spirit in which to move through things….that turned into two. The Universe has spoken…. Lean into this episode to hear what the Universe wants us to lean into in this particular Pisces season….it's pure magic. Pisces is represented by The Moon in the Tarot. In the RIder Waite Smith deck it is depicted by two dogs howling at the moon, that blocks out the sun. One of the dogs appears wild, and the other domesticated. They stand on land with water in front of them with a crayfish crawling out of the water. The crayfish represents the fearful self…it looks towards a long path in front of it and offers us that thought of…others have done it, can I? There is a message here of the life of the imagination vs. an actual life of decisions. This card traditionally offers us an opportunity to develop our Spirituality deeper, or for the first time. It can offer an awakening of the third eye/pineal gland and the solar plexus…or a spiritual awakening in general. The Moon an alignment between body, spirituality, and psyche. It requires us to make decisions in order to move forward up, out, and away from fear. It's number 18 - 1 + 8 = 9 karmic closures and cycles ending. Perfect for the last sign of the zodiac chart that finishes the astrological year and says purge, grieve, let go…in order to heal. Pisces, as an energy of the zodiac, offers us: The magic of adaptability, creativity, artistry, fantasy, and idealism. Healing the wounds of worthiness, lack, limitation, love, safety, creativity The power of allowing your emotions out and through The power of hope and potential The challenge of creating and keeping healthy boundaries The challenge of not remaining a victim A true balance of humanity and divinity - our only assignment in life school Want more Pisces insight: UnicornWellnessStudio.com members have an offering in their membership library - in the Astrology section - titled Zodiac Basics: Pisces Other episodes you'll enjoy: EP 56: Pisces Season 2024 Energy Forecast EP 41: Magical Mentoring from the inside with Dionna Eshleman and Keli Lyn Jewel Read the full details on Magical Mentoring Schedule your Magical Mentoring exploration call HERE Follow and DM on IG @tandy_gutierrez Get my Newsletter here. So, what does the tarot have to do with dogs?? In today's episode, I am joined by intuitive tarot and astrology expert, and fellow mystic dog mama, Sarah Vrba. Honestly, connecting with Sarah in this conversation was like meeting with a kindred spirit, I enjoyed it so much. I've been following Sarah's work on her YouTube channel for a good few years now where she has created a beautiful and permission-giving space for the sensitive ones among us to reconnect to ourselves, and embrace the wild nature within us. So, what do dogs and the tarot have to do with one another? If you've never worked with the tarot before, it is a system of cards that uses imagery and symbolism to describe the archetypal “fool's journey” or “hero's journey” that we are all on as humans. In this chat, Sarah and I talk about how the archetype of the dog appears in key moments of The Fool's journey throughout the Rider Waite Smith tarot deck, inviting us to be present to what is truly available to us, and beckoning to embrace our wild nature.  We get into all kinds of juicy topics, from becoming ok with being a work in process publicly, to deconstructing cultural conditioning, and learning to claim our needs -  lessons we have both learned from our dogs. We also talk about how dogs invite us to explore and embrace our wild selves with abandon, and how Chihuahua time is a real thing! Sarah has such a warm and inviting energy, and I just know you're going to love connecting with her. If you want to learn more about Sarah and her work, I have left links below. And, as always, let me know what topics you'd like me to cover in upcoming episodes, or questions you have around nourishing your dog (or yourself!)! The Magic Spark

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 18, 2024 39:17

This episode is our single card tarot forecast for January 20th - February 17th 2024.. 1 card for the spirit in which to move through things. This episode may have more weight or significance if you are a Aquarius native and have your sun, rising and or moon in this sign. Aquarius in the Tarot, in the Major Arcana - is represented by The Star card - In the traditional Rider Waite Smith deck it's depicted by a nude female presenting human kneeling with one foot in water and one foot on earth, holding two water vessels that look like vases, pouring water both in the pod and on the earth. Said to be calming waters to heal both the past and the present. There are 8 stars in the sky with one much larger than the other. This card traditionally offers us hope for the future. And guidance to get there. It offers beautification in the home, or a dream living situation, harmonious relationships, and good luck in career and money. The Star is a healer. This card says be inspired. Dreams really can come true. It offers individuality expressed, greater authenticity of self expression, reveals or expansion of unique gifts and talents, - it offers alignment of your soul purpose - tangibly expressed. The imbalance of this card is that you may be blinded by magic dust, and only be making wishes and be delusional that things really come to fruition on wishes and prayers alone. It's a callout you may be lacking on practicality and patience to get your dreams to become a reality. This card in readings with me and for my community is always a call to embark or edit or check in with your Life By Design. It's time to wish big. If you aim for the moon and miss you land on a star….not a bad gig. It calls us to really have faith that what we are wishing for is also wishing for us and when we can get honest and real about our wants, wishes, and desires….then magic can happen through clear planning, action AND leaving the door wide open to miracles to support your greatest wish. It's number 17 - 1 +7 + 8 empowerment, circulation, movement, infinity, stirring and flow between humanity and divinity. This is also an 8 year - 2024…so it's an important card to lean into, it plays a role this year for sure . Aquarius, as an energy of the zodiac, offers us: The magic of experimentation, creative thinking, and out there solutions. Healing the wounds of belonging, being othered, or labeled as a ‘freak' for any reason. The power of letting your brain float in the liminal space, The power of high tech futurism for the collective The challenge of getting big ideas to land, with a map and actionable plans and tactics. The challenge of getting connected to other humans. The reality of a life by design that is inclusive, equitable, protective, and provides for all. Aquarius is the element of air. Air in the tarot is represented by swords - our intellect, acumen, thought process, words, and around here our subconscious processing. What we think, read, listen to, who we talk to….all contribute to our whole. It teaches us that by shifting what we consume, the words we speak…we can shift our consciousness, invoke healing and progress. This season invites us into books, podcasts, documentaries, courses that present NEW ways of thinking about well, everything. This can get us into a state of being whipped up into a frenzy in our thoughts…letting our brain run away with us….have stress, anxiety, and overwhelm on high. Consume things that ground you in this season and if your chart is air heavy. This includes foods - think root veggies and clean animal protein….slower and closer to the ground animals…like pork or cattle if those are a fit for your food code…think music that calms, inspires, and drives you along at a moderate pace. In your podcasts and books….aim for voices that are non-inflammatory. Calming, grounded, wise. Welcome to The Tarot Table, the podcast where we explore the mystical world of tarot, delve into the secrets of the cards, and talk about all things spiritual with a no-nonsense, no-BS lens. I'm your host, Miriam Rachel, psychic medium and tarot reader, author of Overcoming Echoism with Tarot: Using Tarot for Boundary Setting and Stopping People-Pleasing, and freelance writer. I am so glad you are here as you are listening to the pilot episode! What to Expect From the Tarot TableWhat will you expect from The Tarot Table? Well, I have a lot of cool stuff planned. You know you will get so many goods on tarot! Yes, I will sometimes talk about individual tarot cards, but not in order, and they will be randomly chosen based on significant events or life themes that are relevant at a time. So, I will not discuss all 78 cards for 78 weeks in their order. So, don't expect me to talk about the Fool next week, the Magician the week after, and so on. I will, however, be writing about that on my Substack soon, which I will announce at the end. I will also cover a lot of mystical content, in general, and I will constantly point out the problems with the New Age community, the harsh realities of spiritual bypassing, and toxic positivity. Oh yes, and I will also talk a lot about mental health! Because that is one topic that needs to come up often nowadays, the stigma of mental illness keeps getting smashed. Eventually, likely not long after the New Year, I will start interviewing awesome guests while tying their connection to the tarot card that best fits them! Like anything else, this podcast will evolve the way it is meant to evolve over time, which will be exciting to see!Now that I have that covered, why should you even listen to anything I say? Hey, you don't have to listen to a thing I say! That is your choice. Only know I am the Queen of Swords because I tell you how it is! I don't tell you what you want to hear. As I said, I only share a no-BS approach to spirituality. As someone who has faced a lot of scapegoating, bullying, and other trauma throughout most of my life, I have been forced to dig within and stop people-pleasing and become authentic. A Little About MeI came into this world with a lot of karma to balance, and I see that now, but the energy I came into this world was highly sensitive, and that is why I was a bully and scapegoating target. Because of that, I became an echoist, which is a pathological people-pleaser. I explain much of that in my book, but I did reach a point where I had no choice but to shed my echoism. And here I am, speaking the truth and calling out the BS that needs to be called out in the New Age community regarding societal problems.  However, I have always been drawn to life's spiritual aspects and mysteries. After the birth of my daughter in 2002, I began learning astrology and tarot, and it all grew from there! In 2006, I received my astrology certification through Samuel F. Reynolds, who has an astrology school. However, I do fewer astrology readings today than I did back then. Though, at times, over the years, due to burnout and poor mental health, I did break from it, it is very much a part of me now. Now you know a  little bit about what to expect with this podcast and a little bit about me, let's dig into the world of tarot! Since this is the pilot, let's go over the history! The History of TarotDid you know the tarot started in 15th-century Europe, mainly Italy and France? Theories suggest that tarot cards were initially used as playing cards in various card games. The earliest known tarot decks were hand-painted and consisted of four suits, similar to modern playing cards, with additional trump cards. These trump cards eventually evolved into the major arcana, the most recognizable and symbolic cards in a tarot deck. However, from their inception around the 17th century in France, tarot cards were used for divination purposes. It is believed that the cards were used by fortune-tellers and occult practitioners to gain insight into the future or to provide guidance and advice. In the late 18th century, tarot cards gained popularity among occultists and esoteric societies, such as the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. These groups developed elaborate systems of interpretation and symbolism for the tarot cards, greatly influencing the modern understanding and use of tarot.During the 20th century, tarot cards became more widely known and used for divination and self-reflection. The Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck, created by Arthur Edward Waite and Pamela Colman Smith in 1909, is one of today's most influential and widely used tarot decks. This deck introduced new imagery and symbolism, becoming standard in many tarot decks.Since then, tarot has continued to evolve and gain popularity, with countless variations and interpretations of the cards. I have my Penguin deck based on Rider-Waite, which I created in 2020 since I have always loved penguins. Today, tarot is widely used for self-reflection, personal growth, creativity, and divination by individuals from various spiritual and esoteric backgrounds. Now you have it! I will talk to you again next Friday. Don't forget to subscribe to my Substack! Follow me on Medium at msmir.medium.com, and check out my site at miriamreadstarot.com and my Instagram. Next week, I will discuss tarot cards with similar meanings but subtle differences, such as Lovers and Two of Cups! I will have you thinking of that one! Until then, ciao for now.  Get full access to Miriam Reads Tarot at miriamreadstarot.substack.com/subscribe

This episode is our single card tarot forecast for November 22nd - December 21st 2023. 1 card for the spirit in which to move through things. This episode may have more weight or significance if you are a Sagittarius native and have your sun, rising and or moon in this sign. Sagittarius in the Tarot, in the Major Arcana - is represented by The Temperance card - In the traditional Rider Waite Smith deck it's depicted by an angel, not just any angel this is the archangel Micheal with one foot in a stream of water and one foot on earth, pouring water from one chalice to another. There's a sunny glowing crown in the background, and our angel has a full expanse of red wings with an orange triangle with the point facing upward on its chest/gown. This card traditionally offers us a move from the unconscious emotional space (the foot in the water) to grounded 3D expression of the unconscious (the foot on the earth) with a new horizon of perspectives (the glowing crown) the flow of water between cups offers a harmony in the flow of ideas, inspiration, and emotions as well as spiritual connection. This card says alchemy is at hand. That we are more protected than we know - Micheal is the kitchen sink of archangels, a warrior guardian to call in when we may not know any other angels - it says we are more protected than we know in the changes and healing we want to move into. Temperance calls to balance but it's not so pedantic - it's about past and future and how we create balance with them, in this moment. This card has always offered me, my readings, and my community as a time of transformation, if and when we can take out emotional and energetic lessons/healing/shadows and work with them differently than ever before. It's a time to explore new perspectives, habits, and tactics to move forward in ways we've not been able to before. It's about being willing to be wrong. To admit mistakes and truly move forward fresh and free. Sagittarius seeks liberation at all costs. Temperance asks us to balance our karma by intellectual exploration that's put into action. Want a different outcome? Do it differently. It offers magic in the functional practical doing. Temperance is so much the epitome of finding our current balance of practical and magical . It fuses the personal and celestial words. Divine energy can actually touch down in the 3D world. In this cycle you may discover you are more than you ever dreamed. It's a time when your soul personality can fuse into physical form when anchored in self love and faith + relationship to the divine cosmic expanse. Temperance is number 14 in the deck 4+1 = 5 the number of change Sagittarius, as an energy of the zodiac always, offers us: The magic of education and philosophical exploration. It asks what IF and leaves an opening for unknown and new answers. Healing the wounds of worthiness, confidence, and manifestation, The power of the pull back for tension in order to get our arrow to fly to our bullseye goal. The power of enthusiasm to get us started and carry us through. The challenge of laying foundations and getting enthusiasm focused. The focus for manifesting bigger in our lives. Honor Sag this cycle with a short trip. Think road trip or hike. Horseback riding, a workout of any kind but particularly those that focus on the lower body, thighs, and glutes, documentaries, podcasts, books, classes, tutorials. It's time to open and expand your mind. Explore the possibilities and potential that you have never known prior. Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign - adaptable - in the suites of the Tarot - Fire is represented by wands - this is the element of willpower, creativity, and inspiration. It's unpredictable, hot, and wild. And in imbalance it's an illusion, a non-constructive ego that only says me first, it can be impulsive, and seriously lack direction or purpose, and even have us in feelings of meaningless. The imbalance of Sagittarius is foot in mouth, crass, moving too fast too soon and simply creating chaos for chaos' sake with burnout and exhaustion that puts you in the worst confusion and mind spiral. Fire is primal. It's also the element of magic. Transformation. Change. Alchemy. Fire is considered the seed through which all life springs. It's creative life force. This episode is our single card tarot forecast for October 23rd through November 22nd 2023. 1 card for the spirit in which to move through things. This episode may have more weight or significance if you are a Scorpio native and have your sun, rising and or moon in this sign. Scorpio in the Tarot, in the Major Arcana - is represented by The Death card - In the traditional Rider Waite Smith deck it's depicted by a skeleton in knights armor, riding a white horse, carrying a black flag with a white rose and 5 ears of white corn, 4 human figures, a child, 2 adults, one dead, and one bishop…all looking up at the figure of death on the horse. It's one of the few cards people truly fear in a reading. It's one of the cards that perpetuates untrue myths about the tarot. The death card doesn't literally mean death, tho it can and is clearly connected to tales of the four horsemen of the apocalypse…it's allegory and myth and symbolism. It teaches us that endings are a part of life and necessary. That we cannot avoid of skip them. That we must learn to flow with them and embrace them and simply make our way through. Look them straight in the eye, process them. Experience them. Work through them. Rather than pretend they aren't happening, disassociate, deflect, or flat out reject them . Acceptance is key with this card. What is happening IS happening. Best to not be surprised, or confused or waste time ‘wishing' it wasn't happening. IT IS. NOW WHAT? This is the card of winter - as a season. It says die off, letting go, and endings are necessary and generate fertile compost, healthy soil for new things come spring. It's a time and card of processing. What has worked in the past year(s), what didn't work, what has never worked, what do you want to keep, what should you keep doing, what do you need to let go of or walk away from regardless of want or comfort. This card has always offered me, my readings, and my community the depth of the magical, healing and transformational energy of the dark goddesses.Lilith, Hekate, and Kali. In the dark is where healing happens. In the dark is where all life/creative endeavors are borne. This is the essence of the witch - in the darkness we know our true empowerment. It's the number 13 - the number of the goddess, the number of moon cycles every year, also the number of the amount of moon cycles those with uterus' typically experience. This card is deeply connected to the cycles of life - and of creative life force. It does represent endings. It says digging in the shadows, the dark, in death, mourning, and loss are necessary fodder for rebirth, creation, and new life. Scorpio, as an energy of the zodiac, offers us: The power of trust through vulnerability Healing subconscious and unconscious wounds Shadow work The benefit of making friends with death, sex, and the occult….anything hidden or unseen reveals for healing Honor Scorpio with a tarot reading, a trusted therapist or a leap of faith in trying to work with one, gett witchier….whatever that means to you, delve into your shadows for shadow work, share the stories we would rather be hidden in safe spaces, create celebrations of life, honoring those who have passed, ancestry and friends, or simply humans we've never known but honor their transition, knowing it is a part of the cycle of this life experience. Lean into endings, grief, mourning, and loss. Scorpio season is a time to plot your epic rebirth, come spring. Scorpio is a fixed water sign - in the suites of the Tarot - Water is represented by cups - this is the element of emotions, feelings, psychic healing, channeling, and the connection to spirit/source. The imbalance of Scorpio is super shady…it wants revenge and destruction and pain of others. It wants someone to pay - it wants retribution for their hurts. It wants to avoid feeling any hurt and often responsibility. The imbalance resists emotional growth and would rather kill itself then feel pain or emotional responsibility. It can look and feel like anger and rage….remember that anger can be sacred and is honored here - it is also just really loud sadness…so if we can get curious in the triggers we experience - and dial back to the origin pain point, we can turn the imbalance into balance through healing. Water is an element that can take over and flood everything. And in a water season we need to remember, on the regular, that feelings are incredible data points, they matter, and they are valid but they are not always facts. Get diligent about getting curious in your own strong feelings to see if they are really facts and how they can be worked with for the better ... .rather than get stuck or sunk in them or flood others with them. This episode is our single card tarot forecast for August 23rd - September 22nd 2023. One card for the spirit in which to move through things. This episode may have more weight or significance if you are a Virgo native and have your sun, rising and or moon in this sign. Virgo in the Tarot, in the Major Arcana - is represented by The Hermit card - In the traditional Rider Waite Smith deck it's depicted by a human with a long white beard in a cloak head bowed holding a lit lantern in front of them with one hand with a grounded staff in the other. The card is marked as number 9 - but it's actually the 10th card and this alone is interesting Nine is the number of karmic closures and cycles ending. It's another turning point of leveling up. This time moving us into wisdom. It says, you've come this far..do you want to go farther? Are you moving and navigating from your internal soul compass or are you continually seeking outside direction? Ten is about fresh starts and new beginnings. Again, are we going farther? Or have we paused on the path? Are we following good advice - ours and trusted teachers - or are we stuck? Very classically The hermit is known as the teacher, that goes off alone into the woods to meditate, pray, daydream, wander, rest, nap, channel, journal… but always with the intention of coming back to community and society to put into practice the insights gleaned while alone. We think of hermit and we think alone. This is an entirely yes AND situation. The Hermit has us doing all the things. Recruiting mentors and teachers, taking time alone to meditate, cutting out the noise of the world and other voices and opinions, in order to know our own. It also has us exploring other voices and opinions in order to stay pliable and flexible and fluid in our knowledge. Life and its mysteries are ever mutating, so must our relationship with it. The Hermit can have us feeling lost in the liminal space. The hermit is epic quiet and stillness. It is grounding. It is centering. It may feel like magic has abandoned you. And yet, it's the time our magic and connection to the mystical is expanding at a rate we've not known prior. This is mysticism itself. The great unknown. The ever unfurling path and adventure. The hermit welcomes us into a place of not repeating the past by working our experiences into wisdom and moving forward rather than sitting in the middle of the path looking back. It hikes up the mountain, only to come back down. Knowing that every retreat generates the next advance. This card is deep and yummy with all the presence of Hekate - cause the lantern, the path, the quiet - she says I'll guide you, I won't leave you alone, I'll light the way, I'll show you the path, and when the time is right I'll hand you the keys to the doors and gates on your adventure but I won't do it for you. You have to do the doing. Hekate is mostly a silent guide. She says you're strong enough. You're smart enough, You're magical enough YOU decide. Make a decision. Which way do you want to go? …See why Magical Mentoring always starts in Virgo season? I'm called to share the hermit invocation I wrote for my Magical Mentees many moons ago - consider this an invocation for the season: I understand at times I must walk a solitary path. That I must move through loneliness in order to value being alone. I take action on recruiting teachers and mentors to expand me, to connect me to my own channel. I willingly marry myself to the path of healing and expansion. I know that I have everything I need. I know I am at the point on the path I'm supposed to be. I am not late. I am not too early. I am learning. I am present in this moment. I pause I think I ponder I remember and I imagine what has never been. I value the timing to be my own guiding light. I commit to the light I become simply by shining. My existence is modeled behavior of magic and divinity. I don't have to speak. I feel. I know. I trust. And then I take action. I am integrity in expression. I am ever learning and exploring. I am sovereign in my own beliefs, and hold space for that in others. I am the combination of all experiences in this lifetime so far. I live from a place of knowing all and knowing nothing all at the same time. I am the synthesis of not repeating that which does not work. I am the mystic that knows this is the matrix. I am the witch of the woods that knows we enter and exit this lifetime alone. I am everything and nothing. I am the hermit. Leo Season 2023 Tarot Forecast This episode is our single card tarot forecast for July 22nd - August 23rd 2023. 1 card for the spirit in which to move through things. This episode may have more weight or significance if you are a Leo native and have your sun, rising and or moon in this sign. Leo in the Tarot, in the Major Arcana - is represented by The Strength card - In the traditional Rider Waite Smith deck it's depicted by a goddess petting a lion - this card offers us an energy of a true midway point on the spectrum. It's most traditionally placed as the 8th card - movement, circulation, empowerment, the balance of humanity and divinity, this is a focus on ourselves - It says, you can attain your wants through will power….. IF and when we can make peace between our constructive AND non constructive ego. It greatly contributes out our personal magic and capacity to manifest/goal get/ and heal. The lion on this card is symbolism for the non-constructive ego. It is an expression of the patriarchal, toxic masculinity… a me, myself, and I - only - focus. It gives ‘I'll have exactly what I want, by force….all others be damned' mood. This is an imbalanced expression of the Lion, of leo …all ego. The constructive ego is represented by the goddess, the creatrix energy, divine life force, unconditional love of the rose energy, the divine feminine… aspects of ourselves.. The Strength card says, if we can tame our human 3D ego, our inner monsters, OR more commonly known as our shadows… …..when we can learn to love our shadows but not let them lead… When we figure out how to move through the world with compassion, acceptance, grace, and self love….we then step into our true power and are able to weather or navigate any storm. We are then able to heal through anything no matter how long it might take…and the quieter, more gentle steps we take towards it, are rewarded. This card offers that the other side of the journey is worth the scratches and bites we might experience in our efforts to calm…but also respect the wild, fierce power of our primal life force energy. When we calm and care for our shadows, they can actually serve us when we might need to call on them to protect and hunt. It says make friends with rage and anger, know when to unleash it for protection, change, and transformation. AND this card has always offered me, my readings, and my community the energy of Lilith. This is a longer conversation that I may offer in a separate episode but think using your voice for visibility, consideration, and equity AND roaring, setting boundaries, and protecting yourself with fierce pride through integrity says it all. Leo, as an energy of the zodiac, offers us: Healed wounds of worthiness, Unshakable self pride, Tangible love for others, Protection of those we love, Protection and connection to our inner child, A life lived out loud, shamelessly. Joy Honor Leo with play, pleasure, empowerment, all the sparkle, shine, bravado, selfies, and a dash of YOLO. Leo is a fixed fire energy - In the suites of the Tarot - Fire is represented by wands - this is the element of magic, manifestation, willpower, enthusiasm, creativity, and playfulness. Leo energy is also anger, frustration, and rage. Please take note that these are a part of the human spectrum of emotion and experience, they are all a part of the healing process, they are important and can be very powerful for change. We've mostly, as a culture only experienced anger as violence but it can also be massive cathartic change that says never again, not on my watch ... .not today patriarchy. Fire…is alchemy that transforms…raw food turns into a warm meal - dough turns into bread - at the end of the day it's super creative magic - fire turns things from what you don't want to what you do…because you will it so. This energy could feel like to ‘too's' too much, too driven, too feisty, too fast…perhaps too much hustle - there's still a flag for burnout here….because…fire….if you're sensitive to fire…if people being proud and big and out front living their best shameless life triggers you…there is curiosity here to delve into - where are you hiding? Where are you holding yourself back? Where does the unconscious internalized patriarchy have you thinking quieter, pleasing, and smaller is better? I love me some leo season, as a leo rising, but this year has some additional considerations to it with the energetics of a Venus going RX in Leo July 22 - Chiron stationing Rx July 23rd…the nodes have just recently shifted resetting a macrocycle tone for the next 18 months (they shifted into Libra and Aries) + Mercury enters it's Rxshade. And as I record this episode I can't help but think of Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie that comes out July 21, 2023…for this Venus rx in Leo adventure…from the write ups and director there's twists that honestly, I am super excited and on board for…now I may change my tune after seeing it, but based on the director alone... this feminist is IN. If the Barbie movie doesn't say Venus rx in Leo,I don't know what does. The Magician tarot card is Key I in the major arcana, and it's traditionally associated with manifestation, creativity, and ingenuity. In the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot, The Magician is depicted as a powerful figure standing before the four symbols of the tarot suits: pentacles, cups, swords, and wands. This demonstrates that he has everything he needs to actualize his visions and dreams. He points a wand to the sky and his finger to the ground, symbolizing the popular occult maxim "As above, so below." He is a conduit that harnesses the power of the heavens and channels it into earthly creation. He is the genius of humankind. The Magician in the Genius Garden Tarot is just as clever and resourceful as the Magician in the RWS, but he recognizes a different source of his power--himself. He doesn't point upwards to a supreme deity that reigns on high. Rather, he recognizes god in everything, and everything as an equal manifestation of that divine power. He harnesses the power with him to levitate the symbols of the four suits, demonstrating the mastery and ease with which he wields them. The Weiser Tarot presents a fresh face that embraces figures on a varying spectrum of skin tone and gender orientation. The creators' process with this landmark deck inspires all of us to come to this antiquated deck with fresh eyes and to "examine each card one by one, prior to considering the interpretations of others." The 78 pieces of art, originally drawn by Smith, "open our intuition and imagination to explore our hearts and minds" (Illes 2022). More about Judika Illes: Born in New York City, Judika Illes is a lifelong lover, student, and practitioner of the magickal arts. She is the author of numerous books devoted to magic spells, witchcraft, saints, spirits, and the paranormal including the best-selling Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells and Encyclopedia of Spirits. Her other books include Pure Magic: A Complete Course in Spellcasting, Magic When You Need It, Encyclopedia of Witchcraft, and Daily Magic, a perpetual calendar of spells, rituals, and feasts. Judika is also the curator of two books of occult fiction. Someday she will publish some occult fiction of her own. Judika is a certified aromatherapist and has been a professional tarot card reader since 1988. Judika has worked as an editor for Weiser Books since 2015. Before that, she worked for The Witches' Almanac.  She teaches about spell-casting and other topics in the US, internationally, and virtually. Her website is under construction, but Judika is easily found on-line at Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AuthorJudikaIlles  Instagram: @judikailles and Twitter: @JudikaIlles More about Kathryn Sky-Peck: Kathryn Sky-Peck has been a life-long student of the esoteric arts. Currently Creative Director at Red Wheel/Weiser, she has been with Weiser books off and on since 1981 when she first began working with the publisher. She is an award-winning poet, a fine artist, and—when the grace of youth allowed it—a modern dancer. She sees all these art forms interconnected, finding color and movement in words and music in poetry. She has been the sole proprietor of Sky Peck Design for the last 27 years, where she maintains a select group of clients, most notably The Witches Almanac and Ibis Press. In her role as book development director at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, she authored Who Has Seen the Wind? and The Poet's Delay, both compilations of poetry based on the museum's art collection. She loves the anonymity of being in the background, from where she's had the honor to work with, support, and learn from some of the occult world's best-known authors. Not on social media, she lives at the edge of a New England wood with her cat Milo.

The Fool tarot card is the first in the major arcana, fittingly assigned key 0. It represents new beginnings, potential, adventure, and the hero's journey through life. In the Rider-Waite Smith tarot deck, the Fool is depicted as a carefree traveller with a modest load and a little white dog as his only companion. The rose in his hand represents innocence, and the cliff he carelessly approaches represents the unknown future that awaits him. The Fool is often seen as naive, innocent, and unaware of the potential dangers that lie ahead on his journey, which explains the look of blissful contentment he wears. The Fool in the Genius Garden Tarot is the wise fool, brave and willing to take life's knocks. They have travelled over many peaks and through many valleys, and they leap into the unknown knowing full well that they'll face difficulty along the way. The wise fool represents faith, trust, and joie de vivre--for them, the journey is the destination. In both cases, the Fool tarot card is associated with taking risks, stepping into the unknown, and embracing uncertainty. In a reading, it suggests that the time has come to let go of fear and to trust in oneself and in the journey ahead, no matter what it may bring. Tarot cards are a powerful tool which offer a snapshot of the current energy of your life  in the present moment. They can help reflect back to us perspectives and answers about our lives when we are unclear or stuck. This interesting interview includes an overview of Tarot with its history and the meanings of the Minor Arcana cards (Ace through Ten, Paige, Knight, Queen and King cards get broken down). Also discussed is the meaning of the suites: cups, pentacles, wands and swords, and the most important thing to consider when giving or receiving a tarot reading. This episode ends with an uplifting meditation. SHOW NOTES: “Bhakti” is loving devotion and being of service to others in that devotion with this practice.  Tarot cards are a powerful tool and a snapshot of the current energy of your life is in the present moment. Where is the energy stuck in our lives and where is it flowing? Which people and circumstances in our lives might we need to engage with more fully and which ones would benefit from taking a step back from? Discussed is some history about Tarot Cards and the “Original Deck” that is most widely used in the Western world today called the Rider-Waite-Smith deck. Detailed is the general meaning of the suites: cups, pentacles, wands and swords. The meanings of each of the Minor Arcana cards (Ace through Ten, Paige, Knights, Queen and King cards) are gone through at length in addition to the more “challenging” cards of this hefty part of the deck. Also mentioned is the single most important thing to consider when giving or receiving a tarot reading. This interview episode ends with an uplifting meditation. Author Judika Illes and Researcher/Designer Kathryn Sky-Peck join me to discuss the reasons why the Rider-Waite-Smith deck needed a fresh look. From the publisher's website: The Weiser Tarot is a new edition of the most popular and influential Tarot art ever created, the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, first published in 1909. The cards have been newly repainted—while, of course, preserving Pamela Colman Smith's original line art—creating a fresh, flowing aesthetic. Additionally, the cards provide Hebrew and astrological correspondences to the Major Arcana—not included in the original Rider-Waite-Smith deck—for those seekers who have interest in Qabalah and astrology. The Weiser Tarot was created to speak to your own personal Tarot needs and desires. Whether you are new to the Tarot or a seasoned card reader, you can use The Weiser Tarot for divination, fortune-telling, self-transformation, spellcasting, or any other purpose.

A lot of what we know about historical Tarot and its relationship to divination comes from Michael Dummett (1925 - 1911) an English philosopher and academic. A history of Tarot cards (from Bicycle playing card company) Jean-Baptiste Alliette aka "Etteilla" (1738 - 1791) the Frenchman who "invented" the use of Tarot for divination and tied it to ancient Egypt (via a false history, prior to the Rosetta stone and rediscovery of how to read hieroglyphs from Egypt) He wrote a book called Etteilla, ou manière de se récréer avec un jeu de cartes ("Etteilla, or a Way to Entertain Yourself With a Deck of Cards") in 1770. Excerpt from Wikipedia: "In 1781 the French Swiss Protestant clergyman and occultist Antoine Court who named himself Court de Gébelin published in his massive work Le Monde primitif his idea that the Tarot was actually an ancient Egyptian book of arcane wisdom; his work included an essay by the Comte de Mellet who first called tarot cards the Book of Thoth and, crucially, claimed that the Egyptians used the cards for fortune-telling and described what purported to be their method of divination." Note: The key to unlocking ancient Egyptian (the Rosetta Stone) hadn't even been recovered yet so the idea that people are reading ancient Egyptian wisdom and using it to develop card divination to preserve some ancient wisdom is preposterous. The stone with its multiple languages repeating the same text was found in 1799 but wasn't translated until 1822. After the popularity of Court's book, Alliette quickly produces: Manière de se récréer avec le jeu de cartes nommées Tarots ("How to Entertain Yourself With the Deck of Cards Called Tarot") in 1785 Rider-Waite (Smith) Tarot Deck How to play the game Tarot (French style) A Wicked Pack of Cards: Origins of the Occult Tarot - by Michael Dummett and Ronald Decker U.
