Right? RIGHT?!?In subpoenaed text messages, Smith's staffers discussed Jack being it a HAWKEYES game - as in Iowa - when they played at Maryland. Remember how big a deal it was to see Caitlin Clark and Iowa back then? Hell, it still is a big draw in the WNBA.That Jack Smith - a straight white male without a daughter on the court - might have attended THAT basketball game never entered Senator Schmitt's mind, nor did it occur to any of his staffers, because as much as they'd have you believe they're here to "protect" women's sports, women's sports isn't actually top-of-mind for them.Pretty telling in and of itself; except after Senator Amy Klobuchar exposed the gaffe, Schmitt fled the room to a safe space - The Charlie Kirk Show - where the host gave him a virtual high-five for that "gotcha" that wasn't. Schmitt didn't correct anyone then, nor did he come clean when cornered on the streets by TMZ/DC or on a remote appearance back to his home state of Missouri for a St. Louis FOX-TV affiliate. Nope. Confess no mistake. Make no apology for insisting Smith had perjured himself or calling the witness a 'dirtbag.' Just remain 'eyes forward' and if the questions get uncomfortable, pivot the conversation to whatever "whatabout" comes to mind first. If yesterday's snapshot into the mindset of the modern GOP in its "MAGA" era doesn't properly encapsulate their movement, it's on a long(er and growing) list of prime examples, at the very least.=+=+=+=Hey, so I've made it no secret I'm disappointed in the Georgia Democratic gubernatorial field (save for Rep. Ruwa Romman, running for state Senate and thus busy with her own race, and former state Senator Jason Esteves) not continuing to work for the party to win that office they themselves coveted. Seems their goals were more personal than ideological, then, no? As for Esteves, he'd be forgiven for wanting to mourn the loss of his mother or be home with his wife and kids after months on the road campaigning. Instead, he's doing more than Geoff Duncan, Mike Thurmond or ...... former Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams. She's spent more time in Alabama working for that state's Democratic gubernatorial nominee than for the one in her home state.Stacey, your home village needs you, because "it takes a village" - a coalition - for Democrats to win the governor's mansion back.

He was at a University of Maryland game against the Iowa Hawkeyes to watch Caitlin Clark. Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Lindell is disputing last week's election results after House Speaker Lisa Demuth handily won the Republican primary. Lindell trailed Demuth by more than 45,000 votes, meaning there will not be a publicly funded recount. Lindell says he'll personally pay for one. The Secretary of State's office says that will cost more than $800,000, and Lindell has until Monday to make a formal request and provide the money or a surety bond.Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Klobuchar says she wants to break from the St. Paul status quo. Klobuchar has called for a full state government audit, a money-back guarantee if state permits come late, and bipartisan plans to reshape health care, housing and economic development. Gov. Tim Walz has publicly clashed with President Donald Trump, and Klobuchar says she would push back when Trump's actions hurt Minnesota. Lisa Demuth, who is running against Klobuchar, says the only way to change the status quo in St. Paul is to elect a Republican.The mayor of New Hope is calling on state lawmakers to reverse a 2024 law that stripped cities of the power to shut down group homes. Only the state has that authority now. The law came after New Hope tried to close group homes tied to Sekou Dukuly, the subject of an MPR News and APM Reports investigation. New Hope Mayor John Elder says the state does not have enough staff to adequately monitor group homes.Minnesota gas prices are currently higher than the national average, according to Triple-A. St. Thomas economics professor Tyler Schipper says the U.S. war against Iran has disrupted oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. Schipper says Minnesota usually tends to be a little below the national average because the state gets more oil from Canada that is refined locally. He says he would not be surprised if Minnesota prices fall below the national average next week.

Wisconsin Democrats narrowly chose Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley over Democratic Socialist state representative Francesca Hong in the gubernatorial primary, 39.8 percent to 39.4 percent. It's close enough that this might be headed to a recount, but it doesn't appear that Hong won. Crowley, who was endorsed by Governor Tony Evers, will face Trump-endorsed Republican representative Tom Tiffany. The result halted the progressive left's recent primary momentum, but it still showed its strength in a battleground state.What you're probably going to hear about is the polling. After the polls wildly overestimated Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, the final State Navigate poll had Hong at 44 percent and Crowley at 22 percent — a 22-point Hong lead. Instead, Crowley won by 0.4 percent. That's a 22.4-point miss on the margin. Jeez Louise. Hong's vote share wasn't wildly off; the poll totally underestimated Crowley. The question is why these polls keep overrepresenting progressive-leaning voters.One theory is that more polls are using online surveys. The old problem with landline calls was that they overrepresented boomers because nobody under 60 had a landline. Nobody answers an unfamiliar number on a cellphone, so that leaves online responses, which might overrepresent progressives. It's also worth noting that the DSA endorsed Hong, but Bernie Sanders and AOC didn't. Pure DSA play isn't good enough to get you over the hump, even in a Democratic primary. Graham, Lindsey's sister and Trump's endorsed candidate, finished first with 32.7 percent. Norman took the second spot with 24.6 percent, narrowly eliminating Representative Russell Fry. The vote was pretty split, and I don't know whether Darlene has the juice to keep Norman off. A lot of Republicans were already angry that she decided to seek the seat permanently instead of serving as a placeholder. Ralph Norman has a real shot. The kiss of death for Darlene would be the double endorsement — a double Trump endorsement.Former Hartford mayor Luke Bronin also defeated 14-term Democratic representative John Larson, 54 percent to 33 percent. Larson, 78, became the seventh House Democrat defeated in a primary this cycle, while Governor Ned Lamont won renomination.
