Trump's only campaign idea is a bad one: promoting himself

Jen Psaki talks with David Plouffe, Barack Obama's 2008 campaign manager, about the balance of the congressional elections just a few months away from midterm elections, and the challenge Republicans face carrying the burden of Donald Trump's unpopularity when Trump's only campaign idea is to promote himself. Taken separately, Donald Trump's bad policies are problematic enough, his petulant tariffs, his foolhardy trade wars, his inexplicable war in Iran, his assault on immigrants, etc. But taken together they are a crippling burden hurting both supply and demand as well as resources and materials for operating farms and businesses. Jen Psaki discusses with Senator Amy Klobuchar, Democratic candidate for governor of Minnesota. Senator Mark Kelly joins to discuss the crisis Pete Hegseth has created in the American military. And The Indy Senate Candidates On The Cusp Of Doing What He Did. Jesse Ventura returns to Independent Americans and does what only Jesse can do — say the quiet part loud. He rips into an illegal war in Iran that Congress refuses to vote on, a $40 trillion debt Republicans are quietly stacking on the national credit card, and a Trump family that has never once put on the uniform while profiting off defense contracts and the drone industry. He calls the country's slide unmistakable: when federal troops are doing daily law enforcement on American streets, that is the working definition of a third-world nation, and we are living in one. From there Paul and the Governor go wide. They break down the USS Lincoln stranded at sea for nine months, Pete Hegseth treating war like a football pep talk, the rise of a viable independent Senate bench — Bodnar, Bangs, Osborn, Achilles — and Jesse's standing offer to fill Amy Klobuchar's seat if she has the guts to make the ask. Jesse revisits the story of how MSNBC and General Electric paid him for three years to keep him off the air before the Iraq invasion, why money-as-free-speech is a lie, and why every war in his 75 years has been built on lies nobody was ever held accountable for. Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Lindell is disputing last week's election results after House Speaker Lisa Demuth handily won the Republican primary. Lindell trailed Demuth by more than 45,000 votes, meaning there will not be a publicly funded recount. Lindell says he'll personally pay for one. The Secretary of State's office says that will cost more than $800,000, and Lindell has until Monday to make a formal request and provide the money or a surety bond.Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Klobuchar says she wants to break from the St. Paul status quo. Klobuchar has called for a full state government audit, a money-back guarantee if state permits come late, and bipartisan plans to reshape health care, housing and economic development. Gov. Tim Walz has publicly clashed with President Donald Trump, and Klobuchar says she would push back when Trump's actions hurt Minnesota. Lisa Demuth, who is running against Klobuchar, says the only way to change the status quo in St. Paul is to elect a Republican. The mayor of New Hope is calling on state lawmakers to reverse a 2024 law that stripped cities of the power to shut down group homes. Only the state has that authority now. The law came after New Hope tried to close group homes tied to Sekou Dukuly, the subject of an MPR News and APM Reports investigation. New Hope Mayor John Elder says the state does not have enough staff to adequately monitor group homes.Minnesota gas prices are currently higher than the national average, according to Triple-A. St. Thomas economics professor Tyler Schipper says the U.S. war against Iran has disrupted oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. Schipper says Minnesota usually tends to be a little below the national average because the state gets more oil from Canada that is refined locally. He says he would not be surprised if Minnesota prices fall below the national average next week.

Wisconsin Democrats narrowly chose Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley over Democratic Socialist state representative Francesca Hong in the gubernatorial primary, 39.8 percent to 39.4 percent. It's close enough that this might be headed to a recount, but it doesn't appear that Hong won. Crowley, who was endorsed by Governor Tony Evers, will face Trump-endorsed Republican representative Tom Tiffany. The result halted the progressive left's recent primary momentum, but it still showed its strength in a battleground state. What you're probably going to hear about is the polling. After the polls wildly overestimated Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, the final State Navigate poll had Hong at 44 percent and Crowley at 22 percent — a 22-point Hong lead. Instead, Crowley won by 0.4 percent. That's a 22.4-point miss on the margin. Jeez Louise. Hong's vote share wasn't wildly off; the poll totally underestimated Crowley. The question is why these polls keep overrepresenting progressive-leaning voters. One theory is that more polls are using online surveys. The old problem with landline calls was that they overrepresented boomers because nobody under 60 had a landline. Nobody answers an unfamiliar number on a cellphone, so that leaves online responses, which might overrepresent progressives. It's also worth noting that the DSA endorsed Hong, but Bernie Sanders and AOC didn't. Pure DSA play isn't good enough to get you over the hump, even in a Democratic primary. Bernie and AOC provide some wiggle room away from the DSA's baggage.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Next door, Minnesota Democrats delivered a decisive progressive victory as Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan defeated Representative Angie Craig by 20 points for the open Senate nomination. Flanagan overcame a major spending disadvantage after attacking Craig's immigration record, particularly her 2025 vote expanding ICE authority. Republicans nominated former NFL reporter Michele Tafoya, but barring huge changes in the race, Flanagan is going to be Minnesota's next senator. In the governor's race, Amy Klobuchar easily secured the Democratic nomination, while state House speaker Lisa Demuth defeated Trump-backed My Pillow founder Mike Lindell. Please raise your combs in celebration.South Carolina's emergency election to replace Lindsey Graham is headed to an August 25 runoff between interim senator Darlene Graham and Representative Ralph Norman. Graham, Lindsey's sister and Trump's endorsed candidate, finished first with 32.7 percent. Norman took the second spot with 24.6 percent, narrowly eliminating Representative Russell Fry. The vote was pretty split, and I don't know whether Darlene has the juice to keep Norman off. A lot of Republicans were already angry that she decided to seek the seat permanently instead of serving as a placeholder. Ralph Norman has a real shot. The kiss of death for Darlene would be the double endorsement — a double Trump endorsement.Former Hartford mayor Luke Bronin also defeated 14-term Democratic representative John Larson, 54 percent to 33 percent. Larson, 78, became the seventh House Democrat defeated in a primary this cycle, while Governor Ned Lamont won renomination. In Alabama, Trump-endorsed Republican Rhett Marques advanced to face Democratic representative Shomari Figures in the redrawn Second District, where the Black voting-age population was reduced from 48 percent to 40 percent.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro00:05:42 - Tuesday Primary Results00:16:18 - Exploring Disney's America with Andrew Heaton01:19:36 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. We start the week here for the first time in a while, NOT talking about the War in Iran. Yes, we're still in that war, but we did NOT attack Iran either of the last few days. Of course, that doesn't mean everything's OK and it's over. (Wish it was!) However, it appears the President is about to "lower the hammer" on Iran. Stay tuned!Dr. Fauci's headed to the Senate (under subpoena) to come clean to America about the many allegations of his illegal activities regarding COVID and our pandemic. It seems that "finally," Fauci is going to face the music for all of his alleged policies, which resulted in the deaths of millions around the World.Oil prices dropped over the weekend as a result of NOT hostilities between the U.S. and Iran. WTI oil prices dropped to $84/barrel this morning. You'll hear from Kamala Harris and Sen. Klobuchar publicly "hinting" in 2018 about the woes of "elections happening with votes hooked to the internet." Yes, it's as if the pair back then might have been part of meetings regarding how online voter fraud is a "possible" way to determine that Trump would not (and did not) win in 2020. And maybe that happened because of implemented plans to pad a bunch of votes through "online voting!"

Senator Mark Kelly talks with Jen Psaki about Donald Trump's deeply unpopular war against Iran and the effort the Trump administration is putting into covering up and spinning the truth even though the war and its effects are apparent to any American paying attention. Terry Moran, former ABC News anchor, talks with Jen about Donald Trump's war on the media and a new low in his intimidation tactics. Donald Trump's evasion and inaction on accountability for ICE abuses, including shooting Americans dead in the street, is only making Americans more angry and less patient. McShane and Fitz open Razor Wire (July 18, 6:32 PM) with a smug “I told you so,” arguing years of warnings about China influencing America are now backed by newly released/declassified intel, whistleblower claims, and reporting that China's 2020 influence operations were suppressed while Russia's were amplified. They blast “the big three” networks for refusing to air Trump's speech, call mainstream outlets propaganda, and replay clips of Democrats (Harris, Schiff, Clinton, Klobuchar, etc.) previously warning voting machines are hackable—then note Trump made similar claims with NSA/FBI documentation. They mock fear-driven headlines like “explosive diarrhea,” debate the SAVE Act and Slotkin calling it “rigging,” reject suspending elections, and demand arrests. Between beer reviews, they riff on Lindsey Graham's death theories, Iran/Strait of Hormuz strategy, crypto legislation, Pentagon testosterone screening, a deadly “sandbox/dynamite tree,” and a wild “Russian spy” honeypot clip.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/razor-wire-news--5683729/support.www.razorwirenews.com

He kicks off with a fun first: paying for a Steak 'n Shake 1776 meal with Bitcoin Lightning, then eases into a warm, patriotic celebration of America's 250th. Expect Cam's signature positive spin on the news. He covers Trump's endorsement jab at Amy Klobuchar, the fight for AI and data center dominance against China, and a cryptic look at public private partnerships in national defense (with General Raisin Cain and a Pennsylvania "arsenal of freedom" speech). There's a throwback TikTok flex, a nostalgic Trump tribute video, and a closing MAHA reflection arguing America could feed every family real food, and maybe the world, on a fraction of its farmland. Faith, abundance, and coexistence tie it all together. The American of the Week returns next week.
