Lierre Keith, author of The Vegetarian Myth, Is a former vegan who saw from the inside just how harmful this ideology was to her and other individuals, but to the planet itself. The good and kind intentions of people had been co-opted to push an agenda that did not meet the goals that it claimed to, and so Lierre set out to set the record straight and return not only people's health through proper nutrition of an animal-based diet, but to improve the environment and health of the world at the same time, in the same way. Come see this very interesting interview with someone who was on the inside of the vegan movement for much of her life and was able to see the damage that it caused to her health and the environment first hand. Depression medications are everywhere in nature nowadays. Global warming begins with the beginning of agriculture. We were burning for fossil soil every time we plowed land. Rice culture was a big boom for global warming. Dams are one of the most destructive things environmentally that humans create. This is one of the reasons veganism is not a solution. It is also bad for our health. LIERRE AND DERRICK Derrick was trained to be an engineer but he didn't want to go into the oil industry. He became a writer and a beekeeper, and now he writes and is an activist. Lierre is an environmentalist, writer, activist, and former vegan.

So you think you love animals? We think Lierre Keith loves them more. After strictly following a vegan diet for two decades, and the expense of her own health, she had to begin eating animal products again. After learning the truth about the sustainability, politics, and human health aspect of only eating plants, she wrote the highly acclaimed The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice, and Sustainability in 2009. The book is hard hitting and honest, with a few hilarious anecdotes mixed in (we had to have her tell us the lettuce/slug story!). Lierre helps us realize that, no matter what we choose to eat, something has to die. It's a complicated and sobering thought, but facing the truth helps us eat more mindfully and thankfully. Https://www.vinnietortorich.com/2020/10/quitting-veganism-for-your-health-lierre-keith-episode-1701 PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS LIERRE KEITH She used to be a vegan, but had terrible health issues as a result and switched to a low carb high fat diet. Several vegans threw a pie laced with cayenne on her at one of her speaking events. She couldn't breath for about a week. It burned and she felt paralyzed. They never caught the three guys. She became a vegan as a teenager. QUITTING VEGANISM  Somewhere around 85% of vegans stop being vegan. Most people don't last 3 months -- they realize it's not working. Lierre was ideologically extreme - when she commits, she commits. So, it took her health REALLY declining to quit veganism. Her body was failing when she wasn't eating meat -- she didn't get enough cholesterol. She cares a ton about sustainability and ethical treatment of livestock, which is partly why she was vegan for so long. She realizes now that sustainable animal farming is good and not bad for the environment. Once you accept that all you've learned about veganism may not be true, there is a wealth of information and science out there pointing in the contrary direction. Open yourself up to it. Do the reading. In vegan world you don't need animal protein -- yet often, you still crave it. Simply put, you do need this sort of protein. Most people don't have the willpower to fight this instinct, and that is a GOOD thing. Lierre wrecked her spine, her reproductive organs, and other parts of her body eating this way. There are many other myths vegans need to overcome from indoctrination. Agriculture causes the killing of tons of animals, and contributes to mass extinction and soil depletion.  FAT DOC IS OUT Go watch it now! 20-year ex Vegan and acclaimed author Lierre Keith, joins us to expose the ugly truths about veganism and plant agriculture that we never hear.   Lierre breaks down the flawed and misunderstood moral, political and nutritional world views that are so popular in vegan, vegetarian and plant-based advocacy.    This is not a witch hunt. Lierre cares so deeply about causing least harm, harmonising with nature and replenishing our looted soils. She makes the claim that the most passionate about nature and sustainability, are unfortunately the most naive regarding our modern plant-heavy food supply.    This is why we did this episode. To empathetically speak to the devout Vegans, Vegetarians, and those seriously considering a plant-based diet for ethical, sustainable and nutritional reasons. There is no judgement, just adult knowledge to supplement people's passion.    Pro-Vegan messaging can strike a chord in quick soundbites. Rebutting these soundbites requires deep dialog and understanding. Lierre’s emotional and jarring book The Vegetarian Myth does exactly that from a moral, political and nutritional perspective.    We try our best to represent the key elements of her book within this unavoidably long Podcast interview. It’s worth committing the time. We all need to level set on some ugly truths if we are to find sustainable and nourishing ways to exist.    Check out the Full Show Notes of What’s Discussed - https://adapnation.io/124-lierre-keith/   The #BeYourBest Journey : https://adapnation.io/beyourbest-journey/ (£10 coupon BESTYEAR-2020)    Where to find Lierre Keith and her work: ▪︎ The book - The Vegetarian Myth  ▪︎ Lierre’s website - Lierrekeith.com  ▪︎ Facebook - Friend request Lierre Keith    Third Party References: ▪︎ Overshoot by William R. Paid advertisement “The change was almost immediate when I started eating meat and the scales fell from my eyes about what I thought about meat eating.” John Nicholson Paid advertisement Veganism has become so entrenched in our society as the epitome of “healthy living” that so many people buy into it fully without understanding the hidden consequences of eating this way. Just ask John Nicholson who committed over half of his life to vegetarianism and ultimately to being a vegan for 18 of those years until he began noticing a rather precipitous decline in his health while gaining weight. It wasn’t until his 32-year life partner Dawn, who had been there with John from the time he first embraced plant-based eating, suggested they start eating meat again to regain their health that he made the fateful decision to consume animal products again for the first time in 26 years. Their switch from a low-fat vegan diet to a high-fat meat-based diet was aided in part by the influence of a former vegan named Lierre Keith and her groundbreaking book exposing the dangers of vegetarian/vegan diets called The Vegetarian Myth (listen to my interview with Lierre in Episode 334 here). John experienced such a quick and dramatic improvement in so many aspects of his health once he added meat back into his diet again that he began on a mission to tell as many people as he could about how animal-based foods saved his health and life. He published a fantastic book about his experience in 2012 called The Meat Fix: How a Lifetime of Healthy Living Nearly Killed Me! that he hopes will influence other disillusioned vegans who desperately need to put some meat back into their diet again. One of my favorite humans I have never met in person, Lierre Keith, shares a ton of information with us today. We talked for almost 2 hours and could have gone longer. You may recognize her from the Netflix film The Magic Pill - she was a hardcore vegan for 20 years and lived the lifestyle with passion. I won’t give away everything, but she wholeheartedly enjoys animal products now and wrote a book that thoroughly refutes the three major tenets vegans and vegetarians stand on. They claim a plant based diet is better morally, better for the environment, and superior nutritionally. As I know, and you at home probably are aware of by now, the opposite is true on all accounts.   We also bring up the Sapien Movement near the end as a way to join together and fight the vegan propaganda, spread the truth, and work to improve the way we do agriculture and human nutrition. The site is live at SapienMovement.com and you can also find the group on Facebook and the twitter and instagram accounts, all under that name. The goal is to “End industrial agriculture and eat ancestrally” - other than that, It’s not defined yet. Today, on the Enterprise Fitness Podcast, we had the pleasure of interviewing Lierre Keith, author of the book The Vegetarian Myth, which is not just about vegetarianism, but the whole farming and agricultural system. Lierre spent a whopping 20 years as a vegetarian; her actual experience with vegetarianism is why many consider her to be the world’s leading authority on vegetarianism and its problems (20 years is an enough time to know if something works). Lierre has always stood for justice and compassion, and after writing The Vegetarian Myth, she has been able to study the broader picture of the world’s food supply. She definitely has some of the answers with regards to what should be done with our farming and food. A very important topic for any one who eats! If you have any environmentalist or vegetarian friends, send them a copy of this audio. As you’re about to find out, there is a lot more to this issue — it is a riddle in a web of myths!

Do You Have Any Questions About Being or Becoming Vegan? Maybe you have some questions around the sustainability of the way we farm and produce food and how it impacts the earth. If you do then today’s interview is just for you. A few backs back I was lucky enough to interview Lierre Keith who is the author of a book called The Vegetarian Myth. Lierre who was a vegan for 20 years and describes herself as a writer, radical feminist, food activist, and environmentalist. Her book The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice, and Sustainability has been called “the most important ecological book of this generation.” Her writing and focus in this book covers not only the health aspect of being a vegetarian or vegan but also on civilization’s violence against the planet. From a personal point of view I must say I found the book fascinating. The fact it goes deep into the moral, ethical and nutritional side of being a vegan and/or vegetarian meant it really was hard to put down. It covers lots of topics that most people in the health industry just don’t think about when choosing where to buy their food, or what the true implications are of mining the land for the minerals needed to create Wind turbines. It’s a book I highly recommend for anybody who is interested in health and agriculture. In the interview we discussed: What Made Her Become A Vegan & How It Impacted Her Health What It Means To Be Sustainable Top Soil - What Is It & Why Is It So Important? Perennial Polyculture Versus Mono Crops What’s Happening To The Rivers Around The World How Many Calories Of Fossil Soil It Takes To Make One Calorie Of Food Why In Order For Their To Be Life There Has To Be Death The China Study Whether We Are Supposed To Eat A Herbivore Diet & Much More You can find Lierre Keith here: http://www.lierrekeith.com/ Enjoy the show and don’t forget to share it with your friends and family, and anyone else you feel may benefit from the show. In my personal quest for the most natural diet for the human animal, I was a vegan for about 10 years, and The Vegetarian Myth by Lierre Keith was an impactful read for me as I transitioned back to an omnivorous diet. I’m thrilled to have Lierre Keith — former vegan, best-selling author and environmentalist — join us to share about her experience with veganism. Lierre spent 20 years eating a vegan diet, and in that time, she did significant damage to her body. Only when she began to introduce animal foods back into her diet — eating a more balanced, omnivorous diet — was her body able to heal and regenerate. Lierre also explains the destructive history of agriculture and why veganism is not the answer for ecological restoration of our devastated prairies and forests. This is an important conversation for all of us interested in eating the optimal human diet while living with a light ecological footprint on this planet! **Please note: The audio quality of this interview is not excellent because we recorded over Skype. Vegetarians and vegans are often motivated to avoid animal products out of concern for animal welfare and the environment. Lierre Keith is no exception. As a teenager, she became convinced that abstaining from meat was the best choice. However health concerns quickly ensued once she made that dietary choice. She began to suffer from fatigue, hypoglycemia, irregular menstrual cycles, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and more. These initial conditions were followed by longer-term problems including autoimmune and degenerative disc disease. Her own health concerns, and those of others, led her to reexamine vegetarianism. Today, Lierre is passionate and bold when discussing our need for including meat products in our diet, both for our benefit and for the health of the planet.

Lierre Keith speaks to me this week about the dangers of the vegetarian and vegan diets. Many have been led astray by the vegan movement that these diets will prevent disease and save the planet. Lierre eloquently exposes these myths. The results of this diet are quite the opposite.  Transcript Click here to view the full transcript for #16 The Vegetarian Myth with Lierre Keith. Her book The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice, and Sustainability has been called “the most important ecological book of this generation.” The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice, and Sustainability We’ve been told that a vegetarian diet can feed the hungry, honor the animals, and save the planet. But, is it true? Lierre Keith believed in that plant-based diet and spent twenty years as a vegan. But in The Vegetarian Myth, she argues that we’ve been led astray—not by our longings for a just and sustainable world, but by our ignorance. The truth is that agriculture is a relentless assault against the planet, and more of the same won’t save us. In service to annual grains, humans have devastated prairies and forests, driven countless species extinct, altered the climate, and destroyed the topsoil—the basis of life itself. Keith argues that if we are to save this planet, our food must be an act of profound and abiding repair: it must come from inside living communities, not be imposed across them. Part memoir, part nutritional primer, and part political manifesto, The Vegetarian Myth will challenge everything you thought you knew about food politics. Lierre's New Book Deep Green Resistance starts where the environmental movement leaves off: industrial civilization is incompatible with life. Technology can't fix it, and shopping—no matter how green—won’t stop it. To save this planet, we need a serious resistance movement that can bring down the industrial economy. Deep Green Resistance evaluates strategic options for resistance, from nonviolence to guerrilla warfare, and the conditions required for those options to be successful. It provides an exploration of organizational structures, recruitment, security, and target selection for both aboveground and underground action. Deep Green Resistance also discusses a culture of resistance and the crucial support role that it can play. Deep Green Resistance is a plan of action for anyone determined to fight for this planet—and win.
