Welcome to the 108th edition of WLRN's monthly podcast! First up, hear aurora greet the listener before handing the mic to Mary O'Neill who delivers WLRN's world news featuring stories from Louisiana, Russia and Iran. After the world news, stay tuned for the song "Mother Rage" by Kathy Fire, an anarchist feminist songwriter who released this gem in 1978. Next, hear the interview Thistle did with Lierre Keith about the significance of the re-release of Andrea Dworkin's Right Wing Women by Picador in February of 2025. Lierre Keith (www.lierrekeith.com) is a writer, small farmer, and radical feminist activist. She is the author of six books including, The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice, and Sustainability, which has been called “the most important ecological book of this generation.” She is also coauthor, with Derrick Jensen and Aric McBay, of Deep Green Resistance: Strategy to Save the Planet. She's been arrested six times for acts of political resistance. Finally, stay tuned 'til the very end for commentary from WLRN member aurora linnea in which she aptly compares Trump to Ronald Reagan and ties it all together for us regarding the force of right wing politics in the United States. She also, however, rightly points out, as did Ms. Dworkin, the misogyny and cruelty toward women on the left, and how women don't have a viable option for dignity and respect in general in American life. Thanks for tuning in to another WLRN monthly handcrafted podcast. We would love to hear from you so please listen, like, comment and share widely! #WLRN #AndreaDworkin #RightWingWomen #LierreKeith #auroralinnea

This Earth Day, I'd like to honor the importance of our connection to the natural world by welcoming the insightful Derrick Jensen, an author and environmental activist whose work has profoundly influenced me from an early age. We explore the stark contrast between our knowledge of commercial jingles and movie stars versus our understanding of the stars in the sky and the edible plants in our own backyards. How has our relationship with nature changed so drastically over the centuries? And what does this mean for our souls and our future?Derrick paints a vivid picture of a world teeming with life, a stark contrast to the ecological devastation we witness today. Can we truly comprehend the rapid pace of loss that's occurring right before our eyes? We discuss the concept of addiction, not just in terms of substances, but in how we've become enslaved to technology and convenience. What are the implications of this enslavement for our planet and our very humanity?Join us as we grapple with these questions and consider the idea of communal decision-making. Could it be the key to balancing innovation with tradition, action with contemplation? And what might we learn from the Okanagan decision-making process that honors the perspectives of youth, elders, mothers, and fathers? Tune in to find out how we might navigate the complex relationship between our technological advancements and the natural world we seem to be drifting away from.Hailed as the philosopher poet of the environmental movement, Derrick Jensen is author of twenty-five books, including The Myth of Human Supremacy, Endgame and A Language Older Than Words. He holds a degree in creative writing from Eastern Washington University, a degree in mineral engineering physics from the Colorado School of Mines, and has taught at Eastern Washington University and Pelican Bay State Prison. I THOUGHT I had gone too far, but they went and did it . . . they hired an apparent Satanist. THE THESIS: The Democrat Party is mainstreaming Satanism. Incidentally, that is NOT a thesis, that is now a fact. Original Episode LinksTHE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES: 1 John 5:18-2018 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. 19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. 20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.Ephesians 6:12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. The Rank and File Of Satan's KingdomIn Ephesians 6:12, the apostle Paul presents a divine revelation he received that describes how Satan's kingdom has been militarily aligned. He writes, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”Notice that at the top of this list, Paul mentions a group of evil spirits he calls “principalities.” This word is taken from the Greek word archai, an old word that is used symbolically to denote ancient times. It is also used to depict individuals who hold the highest and loftiest position of rank and authority. By using the word archai, Paul emphatically tells us that at the very top of Satan's kingdom are powerful evil beings that have held their lofty positions of power and authority since ancient times — probably ever since the fall of Lucifer.Paul goes on to tell us that below principalities is a second group of evil beings he refers to as “powers.” This word “powers” is taken from the Greek word exousia, and it denotes delegated authority. This describes a lower, second-level group of evil beings — demon spirits — who have received delegated authority from Satan to carry out all manner of evil in whatever way they desire to do it. These evil forces are second in command in Satan's dark kingdom.Continuing in his description of Satan's rank and file in descending order, Paul mentions “the rulers of the darkness of this world.” This amazing phrase is taken from the word kosmokrateros and is a compound of the words kosmos and kratos. The word kosmos denotes order or arrangement, whereas the word kratos has to do with raw power. Thus, the compounded word kosmokrateros depicts raw power that has been harnessed and put into some kind of order. This word kosmokrateros was at times used to picture military training camps where young men were assembled, trained, and turned into a mighty army. These young men were like raw power when they first arrived in the training camp. However, as the military training progressed and the new recruits were taught discipline and order, all that raw manpower was converted into an organized, disciplined army. This is the word Paul now uses in his description of Satan's kingdom. What does it mean? Don Stewart :: How Does Satan Keep Unbelievers in Spiritual Darkness? The Figurehead was told to appoint an apparent Satanist as the Monkey Pox coordinator. And, at this point, given his social media profiles and interviews, he will need to come and and PROVE he's not a Satanist.Benny Johnson was first out with the pictures of this guy. They are disturbing beyond belief. If you are not a Satanist why do you do everything Satanists do? Benny Johnson: “Meet Demetre Daskalakis. Demetre was just appointed by Joe Biden to be the official White House National Monkeypox Response Deputy Coordinator. Demetre proudly wears the official symbol of the Church of Satan: The Pentagram. Holy Heretics: Losing Religion and Finding Jesus

Episode Summary:Living in the United States is a daily dose of trauma. Our nation is philosophically and pragmatically built on injustice, coercion, lies, oppression, exploitation, violence, dehumanization, and planetary destruction. Do we ever stop to think about how messed up the world is? The answer, of course, is an overwhelming no. We are living in what theologian John Dominic Crossan called a domination system—shorthand for a way of organizing society in a hierarchical, patriarchal, power-driven arrangement where the masses are politically oppressed, economically exploited, and socially marginalized. This same system has an almost demonic disregard for the environment. Worse yet, the largest Christian movement in the United States (white evangelicals) can be counted on to support it all. It's madness writ large dressed in drag as the “American Dream.” We don't seem to realize it, but most of us are suffering from Complex PTSD simply for existing in this dirty, rotten system.Worse, we live in a culture of lies. As today's podcast guest Derrick Jensen writes, “In order for us to maintain this way of life, we must tell lies to each other, and to tell lies to ourselves. Truth must be avoided at all costs.” The truth about our economy, about our dying planet, about violence and domination at the family and cultural level; truth about the daily injustices that rule our lives in this decaying empire. Life doesn't have to be this way. We can work together to create a more just and equitable world. We can carve out subversive spaces even if we will never be able to leave these shores for a different home. But, how do we do it? How do we speak truth to power? How do we challenge a culture that silences the least of these? How do we push back on the religious, political, economic, and social domination systems that rule our lives and malform our bodies and our planet? How do we confront evil and injustice without losing our souls? How, as Christians, can we resist the dominant culture and live into what Dr. Martin Luther King called “the beloved community?” As theologian Marcus Borg writes, “Jesus wasn't talking about how to be good within the framework of a domination system. He was a critic of the domination system itself.”Today's conversation on Holy Heretics with eco-philosopher and environmentalist Derrick Jensen invites us to envision this way of life. A way that will take great courage, but is necessary for the life of every sentient being on this planet. Jensen's visceral, biting observations and stories always manage to lead back to his mantra: 'Things don't have to be the way they are.' I think this is the most profound conversation we've had to date on the show. I hope you enjoy!Bio:Hailed as the philosopher poet of the environmental movement and a leading voice in cultural dissent, Derrick Jensen is is an American eco-philosopher, writer, author, teacher and environmentalist. He explores the nature of injustice, how civilizations devastate the natural world, and how human beings retreat into denial at the destruction of the planet. author of twenty-one books, including A Language Older Than Words, The Culture of Make Believe, and Endgame. He was named one of Utne Reader's “50 Visionaries Who Are Changing Your World.” Jensen unflinchingly examines the culture's darkest corners while searching for a way forward. Derrick Jensen's new book is called, Marijuana: A Love Story. It details his wild romance with this oft misunderstood plant teacher and medicine, and how the dream the Marijuana once offered people (a version of "the American Dream") became ruined by the corporatized capitalistic system. From the book description: "In state after state, the wealth-building capacity of this extraordinary plant is now concentrating into the control of the already rich. From seed to smoke, legalization is eroding the lives and livelihoods of the people it was supposed to help: the patients, growers, trimmers, "mules," and activists who created the colorful and committed culture that is now under threat. We can end the war on weed without turning it into a war on small family growers-but it will depend on how much pressure we are willing to apply to force law makers to serve local communities rather than corporate interests. Marijuana: A Love Story is a report from the front, a reminder of how and why we fell in love with this plant, a cautionary tale of corporate power, and a call to once more "Free the Sacred Herb."'Derrick Jensen is the author of more than twenty-five books, including Bright Green Lies, A Language Older Than Words, The Culture of Make Believe, and Endgame. He is also a teacher, activist, and small farmer, and was named the poet-philosopher of the ecological movement by Democracy Now! In 2008, he was chosen as one of Utne Reader's 50 Visionaries Who Are Changing Your World and won the Eric Hoffer Award. He is a cofounder of the organization Deep Green Resistance. Jensen has written for the New York Times Magazine, Audubon Magazine, and The Sun, and was a columnist at Orion Magazine. He holds an MFA in creative writing from Eastern Washington University and a BS degree in mineral engineering physics from the Colorado School of Mines, and has taught creative writing at Eastern Washington University and Pelican Bay State Prison. WHAT IS IT LIKE TO BE A RIVER? HART HAGAN: My guest is Derrick Jensen, Writer and Environmental Activist, author of over two dozen books, including - Endgame: The Problem of Civilization - As The World Burns: 50 Things You Can Do To Stay in Denial - A Language Older Than Words - The Culture of Make-Believe and - Bright Green Lies, which Derrick co-authored with Lierre Keith and Max Wilbert. HART HAGAN: I asked Derrick to read a passage from his book “Endgame.” DERRICK JENSEN: The way this passage came to be written--I think it's the most beautiful thing that I've ever written--and I didn't actually write it. It was written by a nearby stream. And the way it came to be was that I had been for a few weeks trying to write “What is it Like to be a River?” And I wasn't getting anywhere. And so I thought, well, I'm going to go down and ask the stream, “What is it like to be you?” So I went down to the stream and I said, what is it like to be you? And the stream had been waiting so long for someone to ask that question, for some human at least ask that question, because it gave me the answer, just like that, and the entire piece came to me, I ran back inside as fast as I could, and wrote it down. I almost didn't have to edit it at all. So, here it is. Pretend you are a river. Pretend you are the mist who falls so fine—so gentle—that nothing separates water and air. You are the rain who falls in sheets, explodes onto the ground to leave pocks and puddles. You are the ground who receives this water, soaking it up, taking it in, carrying it deep inside. You are the cracks and fissures where the waters accumulate, flow, fall to join more water, and more, in pools and rivers who move slowly through cavities, crevices, pores. You are the sounds and silence of water seeping or staying still. You are the meeting of wet and dry, the union of liquid and solid, where solids dissolve and liquids solidify. You are the pressure who pushes water through seams. You are the rushing water who bubbles from the earth. You are a tiny pool between rocks. You overflow, find your way to join others who like you are moving, moving. You are the air at the surface of the water, the joining of substantial and insubstantial, the union of under and over, weight and not-weight. You are the riffle, the rapid, the tiny waterfall who turns water to air and air to water. You are the mist who settles on the soil. You are the plants who drink the mist, and you are the sun who warms and feeds them. You are the fish who feed on insects who feed on plants who feed on soils who feed on fish. You are the fish who become soils who become plants who become insects who become fish who flow down the river. You are the river who joins other rivers to become a new river who is all of the rivers and something else. You are the river. You do not stop at the banks, where liquid turns to solid. You reach into the sky and into the soil. Water moves through rocks, comes up to form pools far from the fast flow where the rivers move together, seeps down to join still waters deep below the surface, waters who sleep and wake and sleep and mingle with the stones who are the river, too. You are the river, who is married to the mountains you have known since they were young, who have given themselves to you as you have given yourself to them. You are the canyons you nestle into, each year deeper than the year before. You are the forests who give you their fallen trees, and the meadows you flood and feed and who feed you back their fruits and fine insects who fly to your surface to be taken in by the fish who with their own bodies again feed the meadows.

BRIGHT GREEN LIES, WITH MAX WILBERT | HOW THE ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENT LOST ITS WAY AND WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT HART HAGAN: My guest is Max Wilbert who, along with co-authors Lierre Keith and Derrick Jensen, wrote the book “Bright Green Lies, How the Environmental Movement Lost Its Way and What We Can Do About It.” Max, how are you today? MAX WILBERT: I'm doing good, Hart. Nice to be with you. HART HAGAN: It's great to be with you. I'm a big fan of your effort to Protect Thacker Pass (Nevada), as well as your book and your movie. Max, what motivated you to write the book “Bright Green Lies, How the Environmental Movement Lost Its Way and What We Can Do About It.” MAX WILBERT: Well, in a way, it was a very personal motivation. I started to become an environmentalist at a pretty young age, and I was taught from the very beginning that solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicles were going to save us. I'm lucky that I grew up in an environment where I was surrounded by older activists--grassroots environmentalists--who hung on to the older values of the environmental movement, things like moderation, reducing consumption, critiquing consumption and critiquing capitalism and the role of advertising in shaping our so-called needs. So I never fully bought into the idea that these technologies were going to save us. At best--or at worst I should say--I only thought of them as stopgap measures to reduce harms as we transition to a sustainable way of life. But what I saw begin to happen very rapidly throughout the last 20 years, is a transition where the environmental movement--which had been once focused on protecting habitat and defending wild places and wild creatures--has shifted almost entirely to focus on global warming and specifically on addressing global warming through technology. I see this as a huge problem, not because I support fossil fuels--or I believe global warming isn't a problem. It's the exact opposite. It's because I believe these are inadequate solutions to global warming and because I think they're ultimately destructive to the planet as a whole. They're counterproductive to the environmental movement's goals. But of course, they've become very popular--these technological so-called solutions. And I think it's mainly because they're profitable industrial products that you can sell. There's a lot of money involved. That money has gotten governments on board. It's gotten corporations on board. It's led to a lot of foundation funding and big philanthropy money for nonprofits that promote this type of thing. That has led to the entire environmental movement--the entire climate movement--being focused almost with blinders on this one single approach. HART HAGAN: I bet the environmental movement has welcomed you with open arms and given you nothing but positive feedback. How has that gone? MAX WILBERT: It's a mixed bag because I would say that at the grassroots level, there are a lot of environmentalists who understand these issues, and who have never lost sight of the fundamental values of this movement, a love and reverence for the planet and for other beings and creatures around us. There is a real criticism and mistrust--justified mistrust--of technological solutions and especially solutions that are led by corporations and major international institutions. Those people I think understand somewhat intuitively that the technological solutions to global warming are a farce to some extent.

And when it does, I'd rather there be more of the world left rather than less."

We are dedicating this year to marginalized voices who have either been muzzled by conventional Christianity or who have been pushed to the periphery of faith. People whose voices, bodies, race, gender, or sexuality make them dangerous to the status quo. In this introductory episode, we invite you to go on an adventure into the borderlands of faith, where we seek the real meaning of the spiritual quest, and where we dare to meet the God who stands in solidarity with the marginalized. Along the way, we will be lead by wise guides who know the way through the spiritual wilderness. Following Joseph Campbell's archetypal “Hero's Journey,” we'll wander ancient spiritual pathways toward our final destination with the Divine. What we find is that the God we serve lives on the margins, in the outlandish periphery where She has been banished for being too inclusive, too compassionate, too kind. If God became flesh as the least of these living on the edges of society, then in order to find God now, we need to move to the margins. In the end, we pause long enough in our quest to ask a few simple but profound questions. What is the end goal of spirituality? Why have humans for thousands of years sought union with the Divine, and what happens when we come face to face with God? What is “Theosis,” and is it possible to obtain intimate union with God in the here and now? Thanks for joining us on the quest to uncover the heart of faith! We are glad to offer you early access to Season Three! BioGary Alan Taylor is Co-Founder of The Sophia Society and host of Holy Heretics Podcast. THE THESIS: The Democrat Party is mainstreaming Satanism. Incidentally, that is NOT a thesis, that is now a fact.  THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES:  1 John 5:18-20 18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. 19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. 20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. The Rank and File Of Satan's Kingdom In Ephesians 6:12, the apostle Paul presents a divine revelation he received that describes how Satan's kingdom has been militarily aligned. He writes, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Notice that at the top of this list, Paul mentions a group of evil spirits he calls “principalities.” This word is taken from the Greek word archai, an old word that is used symbolically to denote ancient times. It is also used to depict individuals who hold the highest and loftiest position of rank and authority. By using the word archai, Paul emphatically tells us that at the very top of Satan's kingdom are powerful evil beings that have held their lofty positions of power and authority since ancient times — probably ever since the fall of Lucifer. Paul goes on to tell us that below principalities is a second group of evil beings he refers to as “powers.” This word “powers” is taken from the Greek word exousia, and it denotes delegated authority. This describes a lower, second-level group of evil beings — demon spirits — who have received delegated authority from Satan to carry out all manner of evil in whatever way they desire to do it. These evil forces are second in command in Satan's dark kingdom. Continuing in his description of Satan's rank and file in descending order, Paul mentions “the rulers of the darkness of this world.” This amazing phrase is taken from the word kosmokrateros and is a compound of the words kosmos and kratos. BLOCK 1 The Figurehead was told to appoint an apparent Satanist as the Monkey Pox coordinator. And, at this point, given his social media profiles and interviews, he will need to come and and PROVE he's not a Satanist. Benny Johnson was first out with the pictures of this guy. Joe Biden appointed a Satanist to the White House.” Some more pictures of this guy Of course, playing to the Illusion of Respectability, he put on the coat and tie to lie to people about Monkey Pox [AUDIO] - Suddenly wearing a jacket and tie, Demetre explains this about Monkey Pox The people who run Joe Biden, and The Party as a whole, are obsessed with promoting all things that go against the Word of God. Adultery, theft, muder, coveting are all sins, but CNN is obsessed with promoting the sin of being active in same sex intercourse.  [AUDIO] -  Watch Christiane Amanpour insistently push the gay agenda on the newly-elected president of Kenya. Marijuana legalization - that long-deferred dream of stoners everywhere- is overtaking the nation. No longer will people be imprisoned for decades for possession of a plant. No longer will patients be denied cannabis needed for medical treatment. Even folks who just want to get high will have easy, safe access. But for many that dream has become a nightmare. Legalization has achieved one thing: the wholesale handover of marijuana to a few large corporations...From seed to smoke, legalization is eroding the lives and livelihoods of the people it was supposed to help: the patients, growers, trimmers, "mules", and activists who created the colorful and committed culture that is now under threat. Derrick Jensen is an author of more than twenty-five books, including Marijuana: A Love Story.
