This week we're discussing every album by hip hop trio Injury Reserve. Made up of Ritchie with a T, Parker Corey, and Stepa J. Groggs (before his untimely death in 2020), Injury Reserve made some of the most innovative and downright insane rap in history. This isn't for casual music listeners, but it is wholly unique unlike anything we've heard before.Closing track: "Bye Storm" from By the Time I Get to Phoenix (2021)Patreonhttps://www.patreon.com/everyalbumeverMerchhttps://pandermonkey.creator-spring.com/Mike's EP:Pander Monkey on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple,Instagram:Mike @pandermonkeyAlex @everyalbumalexTom @tomosmansoundsHistory Tom's stuff:Music on Spotify, ApplePodcast on Spotify, YouTube, AppleSubstackWebsiteMike & Alex's Picks:By the Time I Get to Phoenix (2021) -- Best Album, Personal FavoriteDrive It Like It's Stolen EP (2017) -- Worst Record, Least FavoriteAlbums we discussed this episode...Drive It Like It's Stolen (2017)Injury Reserve (2019)By the Time I Get to Phoenix (2021)

Hey Listener, put on a black t-shirt and ask your mom if you can listen to this podcast while she drives you to the show because today we're talking with stand up comedian Giles Chickering from Hambone and the Guy/Zorse Industries about punk, emo, and metalcore from the early to mid 2000s. It's an interesting conversation as we talk about being 10 years apart in age and how that affected the way we discovered bands, what bands we liked from the same time period, and where we don't overlap musically. Topics this week include: The Adventures of Hambone and The Guy. The Fast and the Furious franchise is Giles' Star Wars. Shout out to Uncle Norm for those Beavis and Butthead VHS tapes. The internet, a Blackberry, a girlfriend, a driver's license, and a car aka the entire world has changed. FUSE: shaping a teenage boy's musical tastes. “My mom has seen Underoath 4 times”. Manually inputting album tracks to your desktop computer. An unplanned dive into Pauly Shore films. Warped Tours of yore. Giles is worried about how socially irresponsible $uicide Boy$ are for the youth of America. Viewing the Black Parade as a boy and as a man. Ticketmaster is pure evil and you're going to pay for it. The band that opened for Idles sucks (Injury Reserve). Being the old guy in the back of the room in a BANE hoodie. How have the Red Hot Chili Peppers not been canceled? Blink 182 and bands that are adjacent. We love concept albums. Standing at the barrier for Puddle of Mud in 2022. Davey Havok's sexuality and getting his arms blacked out. Thursday, an introduction to Post-Hardcore. Giles Hearts Haley. Forever Taking Back Sunday. Not old and white trash enough for Hatebreed. Every Time I Die: The best at being a band until they weren't. If a concert looks like a prison riot, then it's a good band. Tricked by Christians. Coping with the pandemic via nostalgia. The era of cookie cutter venues. Riot Fest was made for Giles and fat guys in the Midwest that wear black t-shirts and drink beer (me).

Video animation by: Big Flowers Intro/Outro beat by: BLOODBLIXING Beginning of Episode (0:49). After their self-titled studio album debut, with features from the likes of Freddie Gibbs, Rico Nasty, JPEGMAFIA... the sky was seemingly the limit for Injury Reserve. But then during a chaotic June 2020 for us all, tragedy hit the group as Groggs passed away for unknown reasons. When this happened, I like many I assume, thought this was the end of the group's run. No more music was to come from Injury Reserve. However, surprisingly they had an album coming out in September of 2021, titled By the Time I Get to Phoenix. On top of that, it was not just a money grab posthumous album. Instead it was a fully-fledged left-field put all the chips on the table-type album, which thankfully was largely created while Groggs was still with us. It's safe to say that the album we got was NOT what I expected. Welcome to week 3 of The Spotlight where Sarah Mae and Aaron highlight and discuss their favorite records! This week we discussed two of our favorite records of 2019. Coming off his prolific 2017 record 'Flower Boy,' Tyler the Creator does it again! His 2019 record IGOR is packed with themes of love, jealousy and so much more! We discussed the themes behind tracks like NEW MAGIC WAND and the production off of tracks like RUNNING OUT TIME. Brace yourself for the blaring synthesizer chords on IGORS THEME as it starts off the show! The next record we talked about was Injury Reserve's 2019 self titled record, 'Injury Reserve.' Coming off of multiple EPs and Mixtape this is the first studio album that the rap trio is putting out after signing with their label. Injury Reserve is full of themes of brotherhood, growth, and the effect of the industry. With Parkers quirky production and Ritchies witty/emotional verses and Groggs powerful verses the group has become one of the better Hip Hop groups this year! Make sure to listen to 'IGOR' and 'Injury Reserve' Join us next week for Ep. 4 Mondays at 6pm on wgmuradio.com
