Moon, Mars, and Beehive

The Moon and Mars are flirting with danger – they’re sneaking up on the Beehive star cluster, in the constellation Cancer. The cluster doesn’t have much of a “sting,” though – it’s about 600 light-years away. The Beehive contains about a thousand stars, which are maybe 700 million years old – fairly young in astronomical terms. That means the Beehive maintains a mixture of stars of different masses. Its heaviest stars have burned out, leaving only their dead cores. About two-thirds of the remaining stars are red dwarfs – cool, faint embers only a fraction of the mass of the Sun. About a third are similar to the Sun. And about two percent are heavier than the Sun. Because more-massive stars burn through their nuclear fuel more quickly, those stars will expire first. The cluster’s brightest star is Epsilon Cancri. Although it looks like a single point of light, instruments reveal that it consists of at least three stars. All three are more than twice as massive as the Sun, so they’re nearing the end of the prime phase of life. Soon, they’ll puff up to giant proportions. After that, they’ll blow away their outer layers, exposing their dead cores – and the Beehive will lose some of its luster. The Beehive is close to the lower left of the Moon at nightfall, and is an easy target for binoculars. Mars looks like an orange star below the Moon. It’ll slip past the cluster over the next couple of days. Script by Damond Benningfield

The FRAM2 Astronauts have returned safetly after their "work-week" long mission in polar orbit. One thing about these private missions is that they can happen so fast! And that's the theme for this week: discussing our top 3 favorite experiements shared live, in-flight by the FRAM 2 Crew. In episode 118 astrologers Kristina Martin and Tara Redfield take on NBA's greatest 3-point shooter, Stephen Curry and his entrepreneurial wife, Ayesha Curry. The two first met as teenagers and remained friends until a romantic spark was lit and they decided to take their relationship to the next level, eventually marrying and having four children together.    First, we look into Ayesha's chart and see a willful, self-motivating Aries Sun. This, combined with a square from Uranus produces someone who makes her own rules and loves to move at lightening speed. However, finding balance is importanat to her as well thanks to her Libra Moon. We also notice an intuitive stellium in Pisces which makes the art of sacrifice easy for her.   Next we look at Stephen's chart, and see a proud champion thanks to his Leo Rising sign and his Sun in the athletic and adventurous Ninth House. He's always on the hunt for bigger and better accomplishments. We also see an Aquarius Moon, giving him an outsider quality that sets him apart from other players. However, he also has a challenging T-Square from Venus and Pluto causing tension and issues with power dynamics in relationships.   Looking at their compatibility, they have a strong, romantic conjunction between his Sun and her Venus in Pisces, creating feelings of true love and compassion. We also see a promising Sun/Moon sextile, telling us they're partners in crime, but also supportive of each other. But a Saturn/Sun square along with Moon/Mars square definitely adds challenges to the marriage. Careers versus Love, Impatience versus Sensitivity and a heavy sense of responsibility might not make this relationship so easy.   Listen in to hear what Venus score this long-standing couple receives!   Book a Reading with us! NASA's planetary exploration program is in trouble. The Mars Sample Return program is verging on cancellation, and the VIPER mission to the moon already has been. Both are critical precursors to human exploration of these places, as Dr. Jim Bell of Arizona State University will tell us. We need to know more about the surface of Mars--with direct, in-the-lab studies of Mars rocks--and we certainly need to understand where the volatiles--another name for water and other resources of value--are on the moon. And, if you're the US government, you'd like to do both before China does--which is likely not far off. Does it matter who achieves these things first? And specific to the US, what role might private companies and individuals play in the drama? Headlines: SpaceX's Crew-9 mission is set to launch two astronauts to the International Space Station on Saturday, September 28th, with the primary objective of bringing back the Starliner astronauts who have been on the station for an extended period. A Seattle-based company, Iradian Aerospace, has unveiled plans for a new reusable orbital spaceplane that will utilize a revolutionary two-mile-long sled launch system. Earth is set to temporarily capture a small asteroid, 2024 PT5, which will remain in close proximity to our planet from September 29th to November 25th, providing scientists with an opportunity to study a near-Earth asteroid up close as it performs a de-facto flyby. Main Topic - Discussion with Dr. Jim Bell: Jim Bell discusses his early fascination with space exploration, inspired by the Apollo missions and Carl Sagan's acclaimed 1980s series "Cosmos," which led him to pursue a career in planetary science. The decadal survey process is explained, highlighting how it helps align the scientific community's priorities with NASA's mission planning and funding decisions. The challenges faced by the Mars Sample Return mission are discussed, with Jim expressing optimism that NASA will find a way to overcome the current budgetary hurdles and complete this groundbreaking mission. The cancellation of the VIPER lunar rover mission is addressed, with the hosts and guest emphasizing the importance of this mission for future human exploration of the Moon and the need for more transparency in NASA's decision-making process. Jim shares his perspective on the increasing involvement of commercial space companies in planetary exploration, stressing the importance of developing sustainable business models to ensure the long-term viability of these ventures. The conversation touches on the balance between NASA's priorities, such as the Artemis program, and the funding allocated to robotic scientific missions, with Jim highlighting the need for better communication and collaboration between the human spaceflight and robotic exploration divisions of NASA. On modern maps of the universe, every star belongs to a single constellation. But in ages past, some stars were known as connecting stars – they belonged to two constellations. And one of those stars is close to the Moon early tomorrow. The star is Elnath. Its name means “the butting one” – a reference to its position at the tip of one of the horns of Taurus, the bull. In fact, a second name for the star is Beta Tauri – an indication that it’s the second-brightest star in the constellation. But until almost a century ago, Elnath was also known as Gamma Aurigae. That name indicated that it was one of the brighter stars of Auriga the charioteer. And in many older star atlases, it’s depicted as part of the charioteer’s outline. Until the early 20th century, there were no rules about where a star might belong – it could be a member of more than one constellation with no problem. In the 1920s, though, the International Astronomical Union tidied up the geography of the heavens. It designated 88 official constellations. And it defined precise boundaries for each one. So every star was given its own home in the cosmos – including Elnath, the horn of the bull. Elnath stands close to the Moon at dawn. Three other bright lights form a triangle to the upper right of the Moon: Mars, at the top of the triangle; brilliant Jupiter, at the lower left; and Aldebaran, the bull’s eye, at the lower right. Rocket Lab announced today its plan to revolutionize the global space industry with the creation of Electron, a lightweight, cost-effective rocket, making it easier for companies to launch small satellites into orbit. Rocket Lab is building the world's first carbon-composite launch vehicle at its Auckland, New Zealand facility. The development of Electron will reduce the price of delivering a satellite into orbit. At a cost of less than $5 million dollars, this represents a drastic cost reduction compared to existing dedicated launch services[1]. The lead-time for businesses to launch a satellite will also be reduced from years[2] down to weeks through vertical integration with Rocket Lab's private launch facility. Rocket Lab has already garnered strong commercial demand with commitments for its first 30 launches. Rocket Lab's principal funder is top-tier Silicon Valley venture firm, Khosla Ventures, which has a long track record of backing breakthrough technologies that revolutionize industries. Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures, says it is exciting to see to the technology and innovation coming out of Rocket Lab. “We are thrilled to be investing in the next chapter of Rocket Lab's development as they drive down the cost of launch vehicles to provide greater access to space,” said Mr. Khosla. “The company's technical innovations will truly transform the space industry.”     About Rocket Lab Rocket Lab is an aerospace company founded in 2006 by New Zealander, Peter Beck. The company is focused on delivering innovative, high quality technologies to the space industry. Rocket Lab was created to cater to the growing requirement within the international market for fast, low cost methods of delivering payloads to space. Since inception, the company has successfully developed a number of leading rocket-based systems, from sounding rockets through to new advanced propulsion technologies. Rocket Lab is an American company with a subsidiary and head office in Auckland, New Zealand. Rocket Lab was the first private company to reach space in the southern hemisphere in 2009 with its Atea 1 suborbital sounding rocket. Following this success the company won contracts with aerospace giants Lockheed Martin, DARPA and Aeroject Rocket-dyne.   Who are rocket Labs' competitors? The main competitors of Rocket Lab USA include AST SpaceMobile (ASTS), Hub Group (HUBG), Walker & Dunlop (WD), Matterport (MTTR), Joby Aviation (JOBY), Air Transport Services Group (ATSG), ChargePoint (CHPT), Forward Air (FWRD), Park-Ohio (PKOH), and United Parcel Service (UPS)   Market Cap: Rocket Lab $2.2B vs. Hub Group $2.7B   SapceX https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpaceX Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, commonly referred to as SpaceX, is an American spacecraft manufacturer, launch service provider and satellite communications company headquartered in Hawthorne, California. The company was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk with the goal of reducing space transportation costs and ultimately developing a sustainable colony on Mars. The company currently produces and operates the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets along with the Dragon and Starship spacecraft. The company offers internet service via its Starlink subsidiary, which became the largest-ever satellite constellation in January 2020 and, as of April 2024, comprised more than 6,000 small satellites in orbit.[8]       https://medium.com/how-do-they-make-money/how-does-spacex-make-money How does SpaceX make money?   SpaceX is an American aerospace manufacturer and space transport services company founded in 2002 by Elon Musk. The company's mission is to revolutionize space transportation and eventually enable the colonization of Mars.   One of the primary ways that SpaceX makes money is through contracts with government agencies and commercial customers for launches of its Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets. SpaceX has a backlog of over 100 launches, with contracts from both government and commercial customers. The company's contracts with government agencies, such as NASA, have been particularly lucrative, with SpaceX receiving billions of dollars in funding to develop and launch rockets for various missions.   In addition to launch services, SpaceX also makes money through the production and sale of satellite hardware. The company manufactures a range of satellite products, including the Starlink satellite constellation, which is designed to provide high-speed internet to remote and underserved areas around the world. The Starlink constellation currently consists of over 1,000 satellites, with plans to eventually have over 12,000 in orbit. SpaceX generates revenue from the sale of hardware and services to customers that use the Starlink system.   Another way that SpaceX makes money is through research and development contracts. The company has received funding from the government and private organizations to develop new technologies, such as its Raptor rocket engine and its Starship spacecraft. These contracts provide SpaceX with a steady stream of revenue and help the company advance its goals of developing reusable rockets and enabling human spaceflight.   SpaceX also generates revenue from its launch facilities and other assets. The company operates launch sites at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, as well as a facility in Texas where it tests its rocket engines. SpaceX also owns a number of other assets, including a fleet of cargo ships and recovery vessels that it uses to support its launches and recover rocket boosters.     https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Origin Blue Origin Enterprises, L.P.,[2] commonly referred to as Blue Origin[3] is an American aerospace manufacturer, government contractor, launch service provider,[4][5] and space technologies[6] company headquartered in Kent, Washington, United States. The company makes rocket engines for United Launch Alliance (ULA)'s Vulcan rocket and manufactures their own rockets, spacecraft, satellites,[7] and heavy-lift launch vehicles. The company is the second provider of lunar lander services for NASA's Artemis program and was awarded a $3.4 billion contract.[8] The four rocket engines the company has in production are the BE-3U, BE-3PM, BE-4 and the BE-7.[9] The organization was awarded the Robert J. Collier Trophy in 2016 for demonstrating rocket booster reusability with their New Shepard Rocket Program.[10] The award is administered by the U.S. National Aeronautic Association (NAA) and is presented to those who have made "the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America, with respect to improving the performance, efficiency, and safety of air or space vehicles, the value of which has been thoroughly demonstrated by actual use during the preceding year."[11]   https://www.strategyzer.com/library/space-as-a-business-model-arena Industry forces Here we can analyze our supply chain — the ISS. Not only will other governments be able to take a ride, but anyone with the budget and a business plan, could launch a business from the ISS. Other considerations: Competitors: Governmental Organizations such as NASA, ESA, and more than 9 countries have orbital launch capabilities. New Entrants: Private Companies such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic, Bigelow Aerospace, Stratolaunch, Rocket Lab, and Planetary Resources to name a few. Supply Chain: NASA recently announced that the International Space Station will be open for commercial business for an approximate cost of $52M. Starting in 2020, Astro-preneurs with deep pockets can use the ISS for off-earth manufacturing, research or tourism.   https://www.relativityspace.com/ A rocket company at the core, Relativity Space is on a mission to become the next great commercial launch company. With an ever-growing need for space infrastructure, demand for launch services is continuously outpacing supply. (AP) — Virgin Galactic rocketed to the edge of space with its first tourists Thursday, a former British Olympian who bought his ticket 18 years ago and a mother-daughter duo from the Caribbean. The space plane glided back to a runway landing at Spaceport America in the New Mexico desert, after a brief flight that gave passengers a few minutes of weightlessness. This first private customer flight had been delayed for years; its success means Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic can now start offering monthly rides, joining Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin and Elon Musk's SpaceX in the space tourism business. “That was by far the most awesome thing I've ever done in my life,” said Jon Goodwin, who competed in canoeing in the 1972 Olympics. Goodwin, 80, was among the first to buy a Virgin Galactic ticket in 2005 and feared, after later being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, that he'd be out of luck. Since then he's climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and cycled back down, and said he hopes his spaceflight shows others with Parkinson's and other illnesses that ”it doesn't stop you doing things.” Ticket prices were $200,000 when Goodwin signed up. The cost is now $450,000.   https://finance.yahoo.com/video/5-space-stocks-investors-watch-183956447.html The 5 space stocks investors need to watch   Yahoo Finance - Mon, Jun 24, 2024 The space industry is counting down to lift off with major investments pouring into the sector from multiple superpowers. Many space-related companies have profited off this new space race, giving new avenues for investors to add this sector to their portfolios. (RKLB) Stock   When it comes to investing in small companies successfully, investors need to be ready to go through periods where improvements to company fundamentals will yield little to no returns. Rocket Lab's stock has declined despite promising developments, including a $515 million government contract and a new deal with Synspective for 10 Electron launches. Rocket Lab's pipeline is strengthening with new contracts, and the company's Space Systems business is expected to drive growth. Rocket Lab's fundamentals are improving, with revenue expected to accelerate to over $430 million this year and high double-digit growth projected for the next five years, potentially leading to profitability by 2027.       Clips used from Past Shows in Seg 1:   Stock Investing Info from Earnings Hub w/ Hamid Shojaee   AZ TRT S05 EP23 (238) 6-9-2024    What We Learned This Week: Earnings Hub is a platform where you can find all the information on a company, when their earnings are coming out, & quarterly calls Earnings info for Public Co's is often hard to find, and the income for stocks is crucial to the price Hamid is a long term investor like Buffet, more of buy and hold of good stocks, only owns 8 stocks Concentration Builds Wealth – Diversification Preserves it. The Everyday Astrology Podcast

Feburary 19-25 2024 This week ends with a full moon in healing Virgo.  Remember you need a mix of effort, patience, careful attention, and focus to get where we are going.  You have access to all that now.    The Sun has moved to Inspired Pisces on the 18th.. The dreamy Sun is opposite the Virgo full moon. Remember as with all oppositions- both sides have valid points. Your work is making them both work.   Wednesday warrior Mars, thoughtful Venus, and deep diving Pluto are all ready to figure out what needs knowing.  Stuff comes from the deep dark depths to bring to awareness why life is as it was.  Knowing this opens the door to the next level.  We are brave enough to level up.   The energy of Chiron conjoining the North Node amplifies this healing theme. We are meant to heal. What we feel we can heal. Observe dont' absorb the energies around you. Stay in the center of any emotional storms.     Mercury joins the sun in Pisces on the 23rd, lighting up your mind with inspiring thoughts, mystical encounters and really deep compassion.  When the sun and Mercury share space purpose is clear- But in Pisces, where nothing is as it seems, clarity is a fuzzy concept.  Allow art to happen.  Clear space to lie still and stare at the stars.   Saturday's Full Moon in Virgo is yet another chance to release and begin again.  Or in the very least to add to your plan- Which you are likely already implementing.    There is a mental stress on this day- with stern Saturn scolding the zoned out Pisces Mercury. Maybe you need to get your head out the clouds-Even if just for long enough to get down a workable plan.     Venus and Jupiter will be squaring off during this full moon.  Amping up whatever you are feeling. Our Values may need to be reconsidered, possibly expanding what holds value in our lives.  This can be a triggering energy. But also lucky and fun.   To make good use of this Full moon get your Virgo on. We all have this energy somewhere in our charts.  Surely there is an area of your life that could use a going over, a streamlining, surely there is a bad habit you can drop and a good one you can pick up. Often the smallest shift can make life long lasting differences Like a long lasting life.  Virgo wants it perfect.  Even though it never will be. Try for today. Go for perfect. You may just be closer than you realize.  Keep up the good work. Virgo Loves good work. Many Blessings of obvious forward progress. Apparently, it's more difficult for Mercury to be completely unaspected in a chart coz it's orbit is never very far away from the Sun or Venus but in this person's chart, it is. So that would make it rather rare! Here's the aspect grid from their chart   Sun opposition Moon/Mars, conjunct Saturn, Square Neptune Moon conjunct Mars, opposition Saturn, Square Neptune Mercury NO major aspects, only a Sesquisquare or Troctile - 135 degrees, disharmonius to Pluto And a Semisquare or Octile - 45 degrees, also disharmonius to North Node. Solutions might be a communication book, or maybe writing love letters, or using the Bach Flower Essence/Remedy for the Mercury sign. The Moon is especially close to a star with a dangerous-sounding name tonight: El Nath, “the butting one.” It marks the tip of one of the horns of Taurus. It's the bull's second-brightest star. El Nath is most famous for its location. It's the closest bright star to the galactic “anticenter” — the point directly opposite the heart of the Milky Way Galaxy. So when we look in that direction, we're looking toward the galaxy's rim. El Nath isn't on the rim, though. It's about 135 light-years away, while the rim is more than 20,000 light-years farther. El Nath is interesting for more than just its direction, though. It's a stellar giant. It's about five times the mass of the Sun, so even though it's only a couple of percent the Sun's age, it's already past the prime of life. It's puffed up to several times the Sun's diameter, and it's much hotter than the Sun. The combination makes it about 700 times brighter than the Sun. Over the next few million years, El Nath will get even bigger and brighter. Then it will cast its outer layers into space, leaving only its hot but dense core — and the bull will lose his impressive horn. El Nath is close to the left or lower left of the bright gibbous Moon at nightfall. Two brighter lights are in the opposite direction. Mars and Aldebaran stand to the upper right of the Moon. Mars is the brighter of the two orange lights, and stands a little higher in the sky. Script by Damond Benningfield Support McDonald Observatory

NASA next week plans to launch the first of several Artemis missions, which collectively aim to land astronauts on the Moon again for the first time in more than half a century, explore the lunar surface more extensively, and establish a long-term presence on the Moon. Controversy lingers over both the launch system selected for these missions and the next step of human spaceflight to Mars. This week on Chatter, David Priess spoke with science journalist Fraser Cain, publisher of Universe Today and co-host of Astronomy Cast, about why exploring the Moon matters, what to expect from the launch and voyage of Artemis-I, and the challenges of missions to Mars. They also chatted about international space competition vs. cooperation during the Cold War and now, NASA's rollout of initial images from the James Webb Space Telescope, space-based threats ranging from gamma ray bursts and rogue black holes to near-Earth objects and coronal mass ejections, Cain's evolution in communicating science both online and through podcasts, the downward spiral of engaging conspiracy theorists, frustrations with popular culture's association of unidentified aerial phenomena with "aliens," and the interaction of science fiction and real-world space exploration.Chatter is a production of Lawfare and Goat Rodeo.
