Behind all the great things Kenosha has to offer, there are many people behind the scenes who bring these things for life. And for over 50 years, Frank Carmichael has been one of those people. From his early days as a popular Tremper student, to becoming a movie theater owner by age 20 and a magazine publisher not long after, Frank has always asked the question, “What is there to do in this town?” and responded with options. Currently, Happenings Magazine is approaching its 49th year providing the area with free weekly print entertainment; the Kenosha Comedy Club continues to bring top notch entertainment to Downtown Kenosha, and music festivals like Peanut Butter & Jam, Tribute Island, and Cheese-A-Palooza rock our town. And we forgot to mention he is also the operator of the Lakeside Deck at Wyndham Garden. And, he hosts a radio show with his wife, Kim along with Reanna weekdays from 9am - 11am on AM1050 WLIP (streaming at wlip.com) What doesn't Frank do? Not much, you will learn as we connect with Kenosha icon Frank Carmichael. To find out all about the upcoming events, flip through this week's copy of Happenings Magazine. 126: In this short episode, I go on a much-needed rant about something that truly made my stomach turn: Milk-Bone has teamed up with Jif peanut butter to create a new dog treat—and it's just as bad as it sounds. I break down the disturbing ingredients in both products, from glyphosate-laced wheat and trans fats to sugar, molasses, and mystery meats. These kinds of humanized, ultra-processed treats are not only unnecessary—they're harmful. If you've ever wondered why I'm so passionate about reading labels and advocating for real, whole food for dogs, this episode will explain exactly why. One in two dogs will die of cancer—and it's time we stop pretending these mainstream treats are “just fine.” Topics Discussed: Are Milk-Bone dog treats safe for dogs to eat? What harmful ingredients are in Jif peanut butter for dogs? Why should dog owners avoid processed treats with sugar and trans fats? What are the risks of feeding dogs mainstream peanut butter brands? How do common dog treats contribute to inflammation and cancer in dogs? In this episode of [Podcast Name], we explore how to be a Gospel-centered teacher who faithfully handles God's Word, based on 2 Timothy 2:14–19. Building on Paul's powerful imagery of the soldier, athlete, and farmer, we focus today on the next crucial metaphor: the Unashamed Workman.Paul reminds Timothy—and every Christian teacher—that ministry is not about speculation or worldly trends, but about faithfully transmitting the truths of the Gospel through diligent and accurate teaching. Repetition and faithfulness are key (see 2 Peter 1:12–15).

In a flavorful new episode of The Peanut Podcast, NPB co-hosts Lauren Highfill Williams and Ashton Pellom take listeners on a delicious deep dive into one of America's most beloved pantry staples: peanut butter. With this being the first-ever episode available in both video and audio formats, fans can now see the peanut passion in action. The hosts are joined by four leading voices in peanut butter: Lee Zalben, founder of Peanut Butter & Co.; Sarah Johnson of Skippy; Dr. Lisa Dean from USDA; and Dr. Gabrielle Harris from NC State.Lee Zalben kicks things off with a sensory breakdown of why peanut butter hits all the right notes. “It's that creamy texture... and that kind of roasted flavor and some kind of sweetness… a little bit of salt, a little bit of savoriness,” he explains, offering listeners a glimpse into flavor science. Meanwhile, Dr. Gabrielle Harris peels back the curtain on the Maillard reaction—the chemical magic behind that irresistible roasted peanut taste: “This produces those wonderful roasted flavors, aromas, and colors.”The episode also uncovers the journey peanuts take from farm to jar, with Dr. Lisa Dean walking through harvesting and drying methods, while Sarah Johnson emphasizes the roasting process as a crucial first step: “It enhances the flavor of the nut itself. It makes them a little bit easier for the process.” Fun fact: crunchy peanut butter is just smooth peanut butter with chopped peanuts mixed in!Beyond flavor, the conversation shifts to nutrition and sustainability. Dr. Harris calls peanut butter a “functional food” and swears by its staying power during long days: “A scoop of peanut butter will keep me going for a couple of hours.” Lee Zalben highlights its sustainability edge, explaining that peanuts are nitrogen-fixing, water-efficient crops. Whether you're a creamy or crunchy devotee, this episode delivers a smart, fun, and crave-worthy celebration of peanut butter.Ready to go beyond the sandwich? Listen or watch episode 33 now and get the full scoop—smooth or crunchy—on peanut butter.

Yep! Change often feels like swimming upstream against sticky currents. Even if the status quo is a mess, we cling to it like a life raft. Why? Because the familiar feels like less work for our brain, even when it's failing us. In this episode, guest co-hosts Eli and Casey unravel the complex web of emotions and instincts that make embracing change feel like swimming through sticky peanut butter. Inspired by future of work thought leader Ira Wolfe's insights, this deep dive is your ticket to understanding the messy, human side of transformation. Here's what you'll uncover: Our Addiction to Certainty: Our brains are wired to see uncertainty as a threat. Some call this status quo bias. Like survival mode, this triggers a primal response in us. Knowing why change feels unsettling is step one in managing it. Loss Before Gain: Change almost always feels like a loss initially, even if it leads to greater benefits later. It's crucial to acknowledge and address this sense of loss to help people move forward. Culture and Control: The norms and culture of our "tribe" are formidable forces. Ignoring them can lead to resistance. Moreover, people need a sense of control. Ensuring involvement and offering ownership of the change can dramatically reduce pushback. Dive deeper into this episode and let's continue the conversation on how to lead through change effectively and make change work for you.
Welcome to part five of the B.rad podcast highlight series! In this episode, we dive into the juicy, interesting, and possibly controversial topic of diet. You will hear quotes from some of my favorite guests and key moments over the years, focusing on my “meat and fruit” lifestyle—the animal-based, protein-centric, nutrient-dense eating style that I’ve honed through years of experimentation and immersion. We’ll revisit my first interview with Dr. Paul Saladino from 2019, when he was first starting to rise and drive the increasing popularity of the carnivore diet movement, plus hear compelling insights from other experts. If you want impactful, eye-opening quotes on diet, protein-centric eating, and the animal-based approach, this episode is a must-listen! TIMESTAMPS: Animal organs, nose to tail, are the most nutrient dense foods in the diet. [00:50] Plants are the backup foods. Plants have defense chemicals that can be toxic depending on your sensitivity. [03:16] Fruit is the least objectionable type of food. The longer you cook something, the more you degrade the nutritional value. [09:26] If you do have a history of digestive distress or an assortment of autoimmune or inflammatory conditions, it is highly likely that you can draw a correlation to the foods that you consume in your diet. [15:03] Try an experiment on yourself if you have any digestive discomfort. Eat just steak, salmon, and eggs for a week or two. See if your diet should change. [16:53] Much information about ancestral nutrition has come from studying the Hadza. [18:55] We have to make a clear distinction between natural nutritious carbs and the nutrient deficient, heavily processed carbs, [21:47] Fasting periods will result in greater nitrogen loss no matter how fat adapted you are. [28:25] Timing of food goes hand-in-hand with timing of being asleep and awake. [30:13] “You simply will not get fat if you eliminate processed foods.” (Dr. Robert Lustig) [32:26] Jay Feldman says: “If we were to evaluate the use of interventions like ketogenic diets, calorie restriction, or intermittent fasting, we would see that they're generally a terrible idea because they're disastrous for energy production.” [37:15] If you are going to take supplements, get the very best, highest quality, highest potency, least objectionable form. [42:37] We humans can have issues like mental health that relate to our diet. [45:53] Be aware of the stress impacts of what you are doing with fasting or cold plunge and such activities. [47:42] If you buy the 2 or 3 dollar chocolate bar, you are no doubt supporting child labor and ripping off the farmers. [51:56] The body has a natural, deep-seated biological drive to survive. And its most prominent dietary need is to consume sufficient protein. Ask Shelley 4-7-2025 …Why are the Orange Peanut Butter Crackers called Nabs?
Over the past two decades, rates of peanut allergies in children have more than tripled. A variety of theories has been proposed to explain this, from a rise in industrialization keeping kids away from the germs that develop the immune system, to the previous pediatric guidelines that urged parents to restrict access to peanuts early in life. Whatever the cause, higher rates of peanut allergies means effective treatments are in higher demand.New research published in NEJM Evidence shows that a simple treatment could be effective for kids who can tolerate half a peanut or more before an overwhelming reaction: eating a small amount of store-bought peanut butter, gradually increasing the amount over 18 months. In the study, 100% of participating kids increased their tolerance to three tablespoons of peanut butter without an allergic reaction.Joining Host Flora Lichtman to discuss this study and other food allergy treatments on the horizon is Dr. Scott Sicherer, Director of the Jaffe Food Allergy Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.Transcripts for each segment will be available after the show airs on sciencefriday.com. In hour two, Hoch can't wait to throw down some Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches for dinner. Solana proves he doesn't know a lot of common things people know including traditional potato skins, the show Doogie Howser MD and why drinking milk is important. After, Jorge Sedano of ESPN radio joins the show to reminisce about the days he hired Hoch to take over his afternoon drive time slot on WQAM. Plus, what he expects the Heat to focus on this offseason to improve their roster.
Not only is Doug Plagens the radio voice of the Florida Panthers, he also serves as a food expert on our show. Hoch and Plagens share their preferred methods of eating PB&J sandwiches.
I welcome Michael Brandt, co-founder and CEO of Ketone IQ, to the show for a conversation about supplemental ketones! Ketone IQ offers supplemental ketones, or ketones on the go, for an instant high performance energy source. I have talked about the ketogenic diet for many years, writing many books with Mark Sisson about the amazing benefits of the ketogenic state for anti-inflammatory and immune boosting and antioxidant and protein sparing, and the keto diet has risen to popularity and become a huge fad. However, it is a little difficult to adhere to this extremely strict dietary protocol to limit carbs to the extent that you force your liver to make ketones internally. So a wonderful breakthrough in high performance supplemental technology is the availability of consuming what they call exogenous ketones—outside source of ketones—directly for athletic performance recovery and improved brain function. I have been excited about this technology for many years now and tested these products out over time, and while Michael does talk a little bit about his product, this episode is not really a commercial show. You will hear about the benefits of ketones in general, and we also talk about his own high performance athletic training, athletic training regimen, and how pursuing these daunting goals that we put up there with our competitive aspirations carry over into all aspects of daily life. I hope you enjoy this conversation, which ended up being a really interesting one centered around being the best you can be and learning about this exciting, cutting edge intervention for your training, which is supplemental ketones. You will hear all about my experience using this product on my Cactus to Clouds hike, how I felt an immediate boost in mental clarity, as you often hear about people talking about when it comes to following a ketogenic diet. If you’re an athlete, it is a really useful supplement because it plays an important role in athletic performance by keeping your brain engaged and well fueled so that your body can work as best as it can—there’s a reason why he’s got Tour de France athletes using them, as well as Ironman Legends, and MMA fighters. It’s really cutting edge stuff and I think you're going to get a lot of value out of it and probably want to try the product. If you do, I have a special discount for you and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how effective supplemental ketones are. The Ketone IQ product is a special type of formulation called a ketone diol that has a longer lasting duration in your bloodstream. I think it’s a great product, one I use a lot myself, and I welcome the idea to learn more about it. Enjoy this episode with Michael Brandt, a former marathon runner with such an interesting story to share, who founded Ketone IQ on the heels of getting a huge grant from the United States government to research the benefits of supplemental ketones for soldiers. Michael Brandt (@michaeldbrant) is an avid triathlete and marathoner, and co-founder and CEO of KetoneIQ. A lifelong student and leader of designing products around new technologies and emerging needs. Prior to starting KetoneIQ, he received his BS in Computer Science & Design at Stanford, was a Product Manager at Google, and Adjunct Professor at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, California.
