Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, a Democrat, still has two years left in her term. She'll be heading to Topeka with another Republican legislative supermajority to work with. Despite calls from some, Kelly says she's not considering a U.S. Senate run in 2026.
One of the questions that persists among Christians is whether or not they should run for political office. And to that -- a resounding yes. The reason America is in such a moral decay with a political world that's overburdening the average citizen is that Christians have been far too silent on matters of governance. Meg Weinberger is seeking a Florida state seat -- and has an interesting story about what led her to run for office. More men and women of faith could take a page from her story and do similarly. It would help save the nation from Marxists.

In this episode of "Sorry We're Closed," the guys explore the vocational education system and debate the merits of traditional four-year colleges versus vocational training, particularly in fields like plumbing, truck driving, and electrical work and how there are entrepreunirial opportunities in all fields. The conversation touches on societal views about "blue-collar" versus "white-collar" jobs, and the hosts discuss how to elevate the perception of tradespeople in America. The episode also touches on current topics, such as government efficiency and how Elon Musk has suggested he could help run a commission to address inefficiencies. Toward the end we get excited about the start of football season and their fantasy football drafts, with a humorous side note on the Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift rumors.
Lester Kiewit speaks to Andrew Feinstein, the former ANC MP who blew the whistle on corruption in the controversial arms deal more than two decades ago, about his recent running for office in the British General Elections. While Feinstein didn't win his seat, he did remarkably well against rival Keir Starmer, who has since become the new Prime Minister. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In the wake of a catastrophic and nationally demoralizing presidential debate last week, and in advance of July 4th, Independent Veterans of America (IVA) announced its formation with an urgent mission to organize and elect independent veterans to public office across America. The organization is the first in American history to focus specifically on recruiting and electing independent and unaffiliated veteran candidates and incumbents. As of today, all details about IVA can now be found online at www.IndependentVeteransOfAmerica.org. Launching the week of Independence Day, IVA also announced a summer-long “Independents' Month” campaign to recruit independent veteran leaders–and to encourage those registered with the Democratic, Republican, Libertarian Party and any other party to “declare their independence”, put our country ahead of any party, and join IVA. IVA will support independent veteran candidates at all levels — from local school boards to the US Senate. “Veterans uniquely appreciate and defend our core American values. Independent veterans live country over party. We are uniquely powerful. We look out for and support each other. And we are ready to step up to serve our country again in this time of need,” added Rieckhoff. Rieckhoff continued, “IVA will be the ground game that ensures victory for independent vets. And the courageous spark that inspires the movement. They no longer have to fight alone. This is a movement that will also launch our first wave of independent veteran candidates for office in 2024, with waves to follow every two years thereafter. IVA is the cavalry the independent movement has been waiting for. And the leaders America needs now.” Watch the IVA launch video here. How do you qualify to run for office in Canada? On Know Your Rights, Danielle McLaughlin discusses the qualifications and considerations involved in stepping into the political realm.
Phil Anderson - Candidate for US Senate On Discovering a Disturbing Truth: "It was an indication to me right off the bat that things weren't being run as honestly and fairly and democratically as I had thought they were." It is a rare person that believes that any government is doing the best job they can for the people they are supposed to represent. But while most people complain or attempt to solve these problems from their arm chairs, Phil Anderson is actually getting up and doing something about it. We cautiously venture into the realm of politics with our guest, Phil Anderson, a dynamic figure running as an independent candidate for the U.S. Senate. We'll explore his personal insights into the process of running for political office, the intense challenges faced by third-party or independent candidates, and his distinct strategies for engaging in a political landscape dominated by two major parties. We discuss the challenges facing anyone running for office and the deeper challenges when you are not backed by one of the 2 major parties. We also discuss the limitations that the 2 party system has caused, likely by design of the 2 parties in this 2 party system. Listen as Phil explains his journey that led to him running for many political seats, from governor to senator. Enjoy! Podcast Transcription: Phil Anderson [00:00:00]: The people that I worked with were very nice, the local people. But you could see, like, the I don't even know what the word is for it. But like the the tribalism that went on and my experience was with the Republican party in Wisconsin, but I'm sure it's the same with the Democrats. This tribalism and everyone's desire to climb, it was really more a lot of people that were trying to work up the ladder either in running for public office or in the administration or bureaucracy of the party, and that's all they were about. James Kademan [00:00:30]: You have found Authentic Business Adventures, the business program that brings you the struggle stories and strength and successes of business owners across the land. Phil Anderson [00:00:54]: Fantastic. Thanks for having me. I appreciate it very much. James Kademan [00:00:56]: And I'm excited to chat with you because I don't know that I've actually conversed with anyone that was running for office to learn about the ins and outs of what it takes to actually run for office. There's a lot Phil Anderson [00:01:07]: to it. When I first started, I ran for office for the first time in 2014 and knew basically nothing, just decided that I needed to do something and then discovered things along the way.

This season, host Reena Ninan and reporters across Africa will meet courageous women holding leaders accountable in various sectors, including healthcare, startups, and government. Specifically, we are looking at promises made about gender equality – and seeing if they have been delivered. For example, the government of Kenya pledged to end gender-based violence by 2026. And the ministry of health in Uganda is trying to eradicate yellow fever. It is ambitious to make these kinds of pledges. But are these leaders really delivering on these promises for women and girls? For this first episode, we decided to cover a surprising program: a reality TV show. On Ms President, women compete to become the next “president” of Kenya, where they get training to become politicians – leaders we can hold accountable. This wasn't a typical reality TV production. In fact, a nonprofit called Media Focus in Africa launched the show with the support of the EU and the Canadian government. Reporter Eunice Maina interviews contestant Nereah Amondi Oketch to find out how she fared on the show and whether Ms President was successful at getting more women into elected office. Finally, we are conducting a listener survey to better understand what you like about the podcast and what you'd like to hear in future episodes. All participants in the survey who provide their email will be placed in a raffle to win a $100 Amazon gift card. To participate, follow this survey link. Guest host Jacob Winograd addresses the question of whether Christians should vote or hold political office, or focus solely on spreading the gospel. Drawing from the book Faith Seeking Freedom, the discussion delves into the relationship between Christianity and politics, emphasizing that the gospel has real-world implications, making Christians inherently political to some extent. The episode explores the ethical considerations surrounding voting, delving into the concept of advocating for the "lesser of two evils" and the compatibility of voting with Christian principles. Various viewpoints on voting, including direct policy initiatives, protest voting, and considerations based on different levels of government, are discussed. Ultimately, the episode encourages listeners to prayerfully consider their stance on voting and to engage in discussions with grace and respect for differing perspectives. The host emphasizes the need for faith to be solely in Jesus Christ, regardless of individual decisions about voting. The episode concludes by pointing to a resource for further exploration on the topic.
When President Trump was elected in 2016, comedian June Diane Raphael considered dropping everything (except her new baby) and running for local office. Instead, she chose to write a book helping other women do it. In some small part, that decision led to 2018's record year of women winning seats in office. Sam asks June where her propensity for sharp decision making comes from, whether having kids helped or hurt her career, and why she prefers true crime over comedies. Is politics merely a gaslighting of the oppressed, a cloak for the rulers to exploit the ruled?Plato's Republic confronted the challenges of political office (archē). By working through the ideas of this dialogue and comparing them to the present day, the lecture offers a new way of understanding the role of officeholders and the ethical demands placed on them. It argues that Plato took the risk of abuse of power far more seriously than has been generally recognised.A lecture by Melissa Lane recorded on 19 October 2023 at Barnard's Inn Hall, LondonThe transcript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the Gresham College website: https://www.gresham.ac.uk/watch-now/plato-officeGresham College has offered free public lectures for over 400 years, thanks to the generosity of our supporters. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Political Office for Beginners?, published by Asgård on January 12, 2022 on LessWrong. If an American citizen was looking to run for office (from local, state, all the way to federal), what would be the recommended steps to take?Specific questions that come to mind: How would a Millennial or Gen Z'er deal with existing social media accounts? How would a Gen X'er or Boomer create and navigate social media accounts and advertising? Where and how would the first $10,000 do the greatest good? First $100,000? Etc. Are there political grants/party grants/etc. available in the United States for less-funded campaigns? When should a citizen start campaigning for an election? Where and how would the first 100 hours do the greatest good? First 1,000? Etc. Thanks for listening. To help us out with The Nonlinear Library or to learn more, please visit nonlinear.org.

Governor Jon Huntsman is known as a statesman, after serving as the Ambassador to Singapore, China and Russia, a 2012 Presidential Candidate, a Governor of Utah and a business leader in the private sector - not to mention a father to seven - including Abby. But there is a side that we don't hear about as much. Including the fact that Governor Huntsman was an accomplished keyboard player who once owned a highly questionable green van. Governor Huntsman talks about his younger days, where his love of public service came from and he also gives his candid take on the current state of our democracy as well as his own recent gubernatorial campaign - and what he learned from the frustrating results. This was a very different conversation with the Ambassador, even Abby learned something new! Produced by Dear Media
