Send us a textEpisode 148: Asher DezseryThis week we are joined by RecFish SA CEO Asher Dezsery to discuss the disappointing news that recreational bag limits have been cut in both gulfs as a result of the Algal Bloom. Asher talks us through the limited notice they were given and how they are in ongoing discussions with the Government about this issue. While it is disappointing to see bag limits cut (particularly when commercial fishers in Spencer Gulf are unaffected) it is promising to hear that there are still a few positives including ongoing plans to buy out commercial licenses and further funding for fish stocking and creating new habitat. We also chat about the Lets Go Fishing Competition and hear some tips on how our listeners can have the best chance at winning one of the $10k prizes on offer. We also touch on the rest of the SA Fishing news including the Governments summer plan to manage the Algae, the Streaky Bay Jetty is re opened after repairs to keep it safe and the Port Moorowie boat ramp is repaired for free by a local contractor after sustaining damage in recent storms. We chat about Rohdey's fishing in Port Douglas last week including how he uses Shimano Neoprene reel covers to provide peace of mind that our reels will arrive safely! We also have the latest fishing reports including improved fishing on the eastern side of Yorke Peninsula, a hot Kingfish bite in Spencer Gulf, proof of Murray Cod breeding in Happy Valley, a rare catch of a Cod in Mawson Lakes and a billfish filmed swimming around the Port Lincoln Jetty.
From getting fired in record time to a crocodile turning up at a Port Douglas hotel pool. Plus, Nedd Brockmann joins us in studio to talk about his break from running and wild eating habits, and we launch Cash and the Car!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome back to ask uncut where we unpack all of your deep and burning questions. We start with one of our own today! Firstly are you the type of person who is specific and actually gives an answer when you’re asked “what would you like for your birthday?” If you have told a partner/parent/close friend what you’d like for your birthday and they get you something else, is it okay to feel disappointed? Maybe one of us is an ungrateful shrew. Vibes for the week: Britt -eLIESebeth podcast Laura - Tonies Keeshia - @danny_sandhouse instagram account Then we jump into your questions! FIND MY HUSBAND SUPER SEXY IN GROUP SETTINGS OR WHEN HE’S AWAY- BUT NOT WHEN JUST US?I’ve been married to my husband for nearly 2 years and together for 9. I have been struggling with sexual chemistry for awhile now, my desire to show any intimacy in any form is basically non existent. BUT here is the thing, everytime I see him come home from work in his business uniform I literally want to jump him, everytime he walks in late to our family/friend catch ups I genuinely think he’s so bloody attractive and I feel like a teenager again seeing my crush. Everytime he’s away for work I instantly want him back, and all my sexual desires return. Why doesn’t this transpire to times that it’s just me and him? Or when we’re in bed together? It’s like he’s a completely different person to me. Help! BEEN EXCLUDED FROM FRIEND GROUPHey girls, am I being over sensitive or is it completely ok to feel devastated? I found out that the group chat “left the group chat” except I wasn’t invited. One of my best friends has gone away for her 40th to Port Douglas with two of our other girlfriends and I had no idea about it, I hadn’t been invited and I only found out about it when I asked where she was when she didn’t turn up to our kids football game. She told me on the day that she had spoilt herself with a trip to port Douglas however she didn’t mention who with. Only that it was for her 40th. I asked who she went with and she never replied despite having a huge conversation via text. I found out from another mum that she’s gone with my two other friends. This has absolutely devastated me as I thought our friendship was on that same level and would never have thought that I was an exclusion or that it wasn’t even mentioned. I feel like it’s been hidden from me, I feel like completely shutting down. What should I do? I just don’t trust them anymore. Am I being too sensitive or is this a valid feeling? SCABBY BIRTHDAY PRESENTHelp! I’m feeling so confused and a little devastated about a gift from one of my best friends for my 30th. She “bought” me an unknown brand childlike makeup set — I’m talking pink sparkles and a foundation at least five shades too dark. The thing is, she’s super into the finer things in life and would never use these products herself. I’m not a makeup girlie at all, so it felt especially strange that this was the present she chose for me. If I’m honest, I think it’s a regift. After some casual digging, I realised it’s from a niche brand her mum follows on Instagram that frequently do free giveaways. They have 100 followers. I know gifts aren’t everything, but for me it’s not about the present. It’s about the complete lack of thought or effort. It feels like a reflection of where our friendship is at for her. We’ve been a bit tense over the last couple of months after a small communication breakdown, but I honestly thought we could work through it. This isn’t the first time I’ve felt let down by her lack of effort, and now I’m seriously considering distancing myself. I’m usually all for having the hard conversations if it’s worth salvaging the friendship… but over a bad gift? It feels petty and I don’t want to seem ungrateful - how could you even bring that up?! Do I bring this up, or do I just take this as a sign it’s time to let go? IS MY HUSBAND A FULLY GROWN SNACK THIEF?I need you to help me settle a minor domestic dispute. My husband is obsessed with our kids’ snacks: Le Snaks, pouch yoghurts, choc chip muffins, Tiny Teddies… the full primary school lunchbox starter pack. This is a grown man in his mid-30s heading to work with a Paw Patrol yoghurt pouch… packed in one of our kids’ old dinosaur lunch box, despite owning a perfectly good RipCurl cooler bag. I buy him “adult” snacks, but he inhales them in two days and raids the kids’ stash like a sugar-crazed raccoon. I should add, I make us delicious lunches most days, so it’s not like he’s going without. Recently, he stormed off without saying goodbye because I questioned why he needed (or wanted) to take one of the kids’ juice boxes. Am I being unreasonable, or should my husband stop being the biggest baby in the house and leave the kiddie snacks alone? It's a real Port Douglas feel this week as Timmy pictures Ivan back in his hey day cruising down the main street in his pool ute. Timmy is down to Hartley's Croc Farm and he's asking what OH&S do they have in place at that joint. This week Brian and Harrison kick things off with some of the usual chit-chat, they discuss; BT's mid-season getaway to Port Douglas, they review Jay-Z's top 50 AFL players, Tom Lynch's suspension, the SCG surface and plenty more. Joining the boys this week is former AFL player, Heath Shaw. Heater as he's known, is an iconic character of our game, always at the centre of a good time but as hard working as they come. He grew up in a famous Collingwood family, so it was inevitable that he would land at the Pies, the club where he played in the 2010 premiership. Later in his career, he moved to GWS, where he amassed 2x All-Australian's and retired after 325 memorable games. Infamous for some of his off-field antics, he was an active member of Collingwood's 'Rat Pack', a group of players that expressed their colourful personalities with great pride, in an era of football where unique characters were few and far between. In the 2010 Grand Final replay, Heath performed an act that is etched in footy folklore, an act of pure desperation, an act that changed the game and the course of history, we're talking about a 'Smother like no other', a smother that has made him a legend. So legendary in fact, that Toyota has honoured it by dubbing it their latest 'Legendary Moment'. Businesses in 2025 are flooded with digital noise—but what if standing out was as simple as picking up the phone or posting a handwritten note? In this solo episode, I'm going to take you behind the scenes of my recent speaking tour across Far North Queensland (FNQ), where I connected with 97 passionate small business owners. From Atherton to Port Douglas, I will share with you what's really resonating with customers today—and spoiler alert, it's not another email funnel. I dive into the power of warm calls, the charm of snail mail, and how getting back to basics can spark referrals, build loyalty, and create memorable brand experiences. Whether you're just starting out or leading a large team, this episode is your reminder that connection still counts—and it's often the simple, human touches that make the biggest difference. Grab your notebook (and maybe a teabag) as Michelle shares practical tips from her proven 3E Framework: Expectation, Experience, and Evaluation and start writing your Winning Customer Service Action Plan.

Clive Frederick Palmer (born 26 March 1954) is an Australian businessman and politician. He has iron ore, nickel and coal holdings. Palmer owns many businesses such as Mineralogy, Waratah Coal, Queensland Nickel at Townsville, the Palmer Coolum Resort on the Sunshine Coast, Palmer Sea Reef Golf Course at Port Douglas, Palmer Colonial Golf Course at Robina, and the Palmer Gold Coast Golf Course, also at Robina. He owned Gold Coast United FC from 2008 to 2012. Palmer created the Palmer United Party in April 2013, winning the Sunshine Coast seat of Fairfax in the 2013 Australian federal election and sitting as an MP for one term. In 2018, after formally deregistering the party on 5 May 2017, Palmer revived his party as the United Australian Party, announcing that he would be running candidates for all 151 seats in the House of Representatives and later that he would run as a Queensland candidate for the Senate in the 2019 federal election, despite extensive advertising, he and his party won no seats. His party later contested the 2022 federal election, and won one seat in the Senate. The party was formally deregistered again in September 2022. Palmer has frequently been involved in legal cases relating to his businesses, and once listed litigation as one of his hobbies in Who's Who. He at times has been involved in complex cases, and journalist Hedley Thomas has written that Palmer's "lawyers take legal steps, presumably on his instructions, that prolong litigation and rack up costs for the other side" which can result in his opponents being unable to continue their case due to a lack of resources. Palmer has argued that the litigation he is involved in is justified as it rights wrongs. Palmer also attempted to use litigation as a gag order against his workers in his now defunct Queensland Nickel refinery, promising to pay the money he owed them only if they agreed not to make any disparaging comments about him. As of May 2023, Palmer was the fifth richest Australian, when The Australian Financial Review assessed his net worth at A$23.66 billion on the 2023 Rich List.

All over the place this week. Mark's in Port Douglas without a shirt on, watch out ladies, Nick is at home in Melbourne, as is Dan, and the wonders of technology means we're still yakking golf!Over the weekend Mark watched the highlights of the LIV teams event, and loved it - he describes the format as the perfect teams event structure, the best he has seen, and says LIV have nailed it. Nick watched the last 2 or 3 holes, and said it was fantastic. We discuss it, and Cam Smith's performance in particular. Mark chats about Dustin Johnson's backswing. Nick tells us about the time he went to Shaquille O'Neal's joint for a barbie in Florida!Back to Cam Smith, Nick and Mark are looking forward to commentating the Queensland PGA even moreso now that Cam has confirmed he is playing. Leads to a convo about the Australian Open - stand alone vs mixed. We've discussed it previously, the guys not a fan of the mixed format. Mark has said for years that a challenge with golf coverage in Australia is the lack of camera's available, and this is one reason why mixed tournaments are hard to cover effectively. He outlines his breakthrough moment in the 1992 Open and how it was captured on camera, a game changer for him financially as a young player, but this doesn't happen enough now.We discuss Jeff Guan's horrific eye injury, and what it may or may not mean for his career. We're all thinking of him, the prognosis is yet to become clear. And we remember the 10-year anniversary of, in hindsight, a highly amusing occurrence to do with golf and Mark Allen. It resulted in Mark being awarded the 'Worst in Sport' on America's ESPN. We play the audio.Top 5 from Nick is on his favourite Pro-Ams, thanks to our mates at Southern Golf Club. The #1 surprises Mark. Nick talks about playing with a couple of big music stars in the US, one we've heard of, one we haven't.Feedback thanks to Flinders Golf Club, an historical treasure, and there are a couple of members of the Talk Birdie Wolfpack taking issue with Nick. And Damien gives all of us a whack over some comments he didn't like on last week's pod.Nick goes around the world with the PING global results, and we wrap with a masterclass from Mark - thanks to the watchMynumbers app on Cam Smith's short follow through with his putting of late.If you're enjoying the podcast, please tell a friend or two about it. Some of Australia's best chefs (and quite a few friends of the podcast) are heading north for a feast in the tropics and it's all thanks to chef Spencer Patrick and his Taste Port Douglas. Founder and culinary director of Chef-hatted Harrisons in the Sheraton Grand Mirage in Port Douglas, Spencer started his career in the UK where he was head chef at three of Marco Pierre White's restaurants in London before coming across to Australia in the early 2000s. At the Cafe Royal, Spencer garnered national acclaim by being awarded a Michelin Star at 26 years old, making him the youngest chef in the country to have done this. The Good Food Guide also awarded Spencer with 8/10 making him joint 3rd in London alongside Gordon Ramsey. Spencer arrived in Melbourne and worked with Raymond Capaldi and Gary Mehigan at Fenix before heading off around Australia with his wife Reina and settling in Far North Queensland. Spencer and Reina started Taste of Port Douglas in 2013 with the idea of promoting all the glorious produce they were enjoying in their now home. The festival has gone from strength to strength welcoming 10, 000 visitors last year. This year the stellar line-up includes Michael Wilson from Marguerite in Singapore – a first time for the festival international chef, Ben Williamson from Brisbane's Agnes, Aaron Ward from Bathers' Pavilion in Sydney, Colin Fassnidge, and names familiar to Victorians and some who have been on Conversation with a chef: Julian Hills from Navi, Ian Curley, Telina Menzies as well as Raymond Capaldi, Mark Best and Michael Lambie to name but a few. There are long lunches, a main stage, Masterclasses and restaurant takeovers and I would love to be there. Next year, for sure.

In January 1998, U.S. couple Eileen and Tom Lonergan were fulfilling a lifelong dream of scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef. The pair were excited as they joined 24 other thrill seekers and boarded the fully staffed boat run by dive company, Outer Edge. The plan was to visit three dive sites and then return to the beautiful town of Port Douglas in Far North Queensland. But as they emerged from their third dive of they day, Eileen and Tom's dream trip quickly became a living nightmare as they realised their entire dive group, including the boat, were gone. And they were left alone in the middle of the ocean, praying someone would come for them. Fancy supporting us on Patreon? Find out more here. Follow us and get in touch on Instagram here. Fingermark are an amazing sportfish. Like all Lutjanids (tropical snappers), they're extremely tough fighters that give an amazing account of themselves once hooked. They're also spectacular looking and pretty good on the table, if you want to take one or two for a feed. The trouble with fingermark is their transience and unpredictability. Fortunately Port Douglas angler Isaac Fenech has been targeting them hard in that part of the world for 6-7 years now and has some insights that will help others find, and catch, more fingermark. ______________________ This is an ALF PLUS episode, so Team Doc Lures members have access to the full, uncut edition via the members website or their favourite podcast app. Members also receive access to livestreams, audio masterclasses and online tools to take their fishing to the next level. David Starlyte lives a nomadic lifestyle that currently has him residing in Port Douglas in Far North Queensland. Many would view him as a shaman healer, that focuses on coaching in the arts of soul mentoring and non-duality consciousness healing, he takes me on a spiritual journey in the episode and enlightens me with his views on life, and dissecting our instinctive nature and situations he has been confronted with thus far in his donor pathway to date. David has also had some clinical experience donating to a lady in Israel and then in around 2016 while he was living in Perth, he visited two separate fertility clinics in the state and donated enough sperm to potentially help 5 families at each clinic, we are led to believe in Australia there are strict monitoring systems in place, yet when we dissect this real-life event, we realize it's all sugarcoating, and businesses will run as businesses are set up to do and that's for profit. One minute, Craig Brown was a church minister and happily married father of three. Then on a work 'trip' in Montreal in 2019, he did just that (trip, that is) and broke his patella... Seeing him sent home to lift his spirits with some recovery time over Netflix. Surely Schitt's Creek can deliver the goods and lift his spirits, right? Well that it very much did, along with throwing a cat amongst the pigeons and raising the question for Craig... 'Am I gay?' I met this legend in Port Douglas over New Years break (2022) and not only adored him but also hearing his story as a 50-something man learning to redefine everything he thought he knew about himself and the life he leads and navigate relationships, fatherhood, his faith and his career. Our guest this week is one of the most positive, resilient and talented people we know. International award winning and globally acclaimed drone photographer, Sarah Jenkins is not your average drone pilot. Once fit and healthy, Sarah has been confined to a wheelchair for more than 6 years now and, as a result of her muscular dystrophy, she's unable to hold and use a normal camera or even the camera on an iphone. During Covid, confined to the house and looking for something to do, Sarah and her daughter Lucy decided to try drone photography as Sarah knew that she could operate the toggles that control a drone and rest the remote control in her lap. The rest, as they say, is history. In this episode you'll learn how:Sarah stays positive despite having lost so many physical capabilities Her attitude to learning her craft as she goesDespite being invited to enter global awards and having other international recognition she still suffers from imposter syndrome; andSarah's advice to others wanting to pursue a new creative endeavour.Sarah also happens to be one of Greta's oldest and best friends. Greta has watched Sarah over the years evolve from being a nurse and a mum, to also becoming a positive and inspirational creative, who just happens to be wheelchair bound. You'll hear a few different place names mentioned in this episode. Sarah is based in Perth in Western Australia these days, but during Covid she relocated for health reasons to the isolated coastal town of Port Douglas in far north Queensland to escape the city crowds. Without further ado, get ready to be inspired by the positive and ‘can do ‘ talent that is Sarah Jenkins. How nice are you to your fellow veterinarians? It's likely that most of us feel that we're professional and supportive with a high degree of collegiality. But if this is true, then why is it that so many vets have experiences that don't fit with this narrative - feelings of being 'thrown under the bus'? Dr Denis Verwilghen is boarded in both large animal surgery and equine dentistry. He's a graduate of the University of Ghent in Belgium and he's currently the clinical director of Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital. The path between those two points has taken him on a journey across many continents, cultures and institutions and afforded him the opportunity to wear multiple hats within the vet space, and has given him a unique set of insights. And Denis feels that when it comes to collegiality, we can do better. In this conversation, we explore where and how we fall short when it comes to our working relationships with each other, including some less obvious ways in which we sometimes unintentionally undermine each other. We also talk about career goals vs life goals and the personal cost of chasing these, Denis's thoughts on making major life decisions, and what he's learnt about happiness.
