Bible Reading: Psalm 42:1-4"It's still raining," said Hayley. "Isn't the sun ever going to shine again?""We need rain to make the garden grow," said Mom. She smiled at her daughter. "This might be a good time for you to pray and read your Bible. You haven't done that yet today, have you?" "No--but I have some other things I want to do first." Hayley quickly headed for the stairs. "Seems like all we do in this family is go to church and read the Bible and pray," she mumbled to herself. She blushed when she saw Mom glance her way. Oops! I hope Mom didn't hear that, she thought.A little while later, Hayley came back downstairs and glanced out the window. "Good!" she said. "The rain stopped. We've had enough." "Come with me to the garden," said Mom. "I want to show you something."Outside, Mom plunged a shovel into the dirt and turned it over. The ground was quite wet on top, but a little way down, the dirt was dry."I thought it'd be muddy a mile below the surface!" said Hayley. "I guess we do need more rain."Mom nodded. "The ground needs a lot of regular rain or it will dry out," she said. "It reminds me of us--if we don't regularly pray, read the Bible, and go to church, we can dry out spiritually." Hayley sighed. "You heard what I said earlier, didn't you?""Yes, I did," said Mom. "And I know it can be hard to do those things sometimes, but the Bible compares our need for Jesus to thirst. Even after we've put our faith in Him, we still need to spend time with Him so He can remind us that He has saved us and help us feel His love and presence in our lives. If we don't pray, read His Word, and worship Him with other Christians regularly, we can lose sight of how much we need Him and become spiritually dry--just like this ground without rain." Hayley was silent as they headed back to the house. "I think I'll go have my quiet time now," she said once they were inside. "I'm feeling thirsty for God's Word." –Cindy Huff How About You?Are you eager to spend time with Jesus and get to know Him better? As a Christian, your soul thirsts for Jesus, and that thirst can only be quenched by spending time in His presence so He can remind you of His love and that you are His. Don't be a dry Christian. Spend quality time reading God's Word, talking to Jesus, and learning all you can about Him. Today's Key Verse:I lift my hands to you in prayer. I thirst for you as parched land thirsts for rain. (NLT) (Psalm 143:6)Today's Key Thought:Don't be a dry Christian

For the first time, my friends and I could team up and work together to beat a team of computer controlled enemies.I remember playing Perfect Dark for the first time and unironically using phrases like "on your six". Offline bots is a feature I've come to love in games like Timesplitters and Call of Duty Black Ops - Hell, Call of Duty Ghosts lets you play against bots and still gain levels and new equipment. Sadly, this is not a standard feature in FPS's today. But I'm hoping you can make the Perfect Dark lightning strike twice. I want you to suggest a really popular game, but add a SINGLE feature that it does not currently have, and spin that into its own game/series. Give the game its own name, describe how the new feature makes the game so much better, best pitch wins and earns two episode points. In this heartfelt and hilariously unpredictable episode of Wise_N_Nerdy, Charles, Joe, and Kurt kick things off by answering the Question of the Week: “What do you like to do on a rainy day?” From splashing in puddles to cozying up with a good book or a binge-worthy series, the hosts share their favorite rainy-day rituals that are perfect for family bonding or solo recharging. The dice take their usual spin and land us on the “What Are You Nerding Out About?” segment. Joe beams with love as he shares how much he appreciates his wife and their shared joy in watching the sweet and sporty anime Blue Box. Kurt dives into the exciting new release Blue Prince, while Charles gets hyped about The Pitt and offers a glowing tribute to Audie Norman, the talent behind the podcast's upcoming logo redesign.Next, the show shifts into the “Parliament of Papas,” where the trio dives into a timely and honest discussion about expectations placed on dads and kids during Mother's Day. It's a thoughtful conversation about presence, planning, and appreciating the moms who do so much. The dice roll again and bring us to the “How Do I…?” segment. This time, it's all about reinforcing positive behavior in children—with a strong emphasis on praising effort over outcomes. It's a meaningful discussion packed with real-world parenting advice you can apply today. Then the crew sails into some pun-packed territory with a couple of pirate-themed bad dad jokes straight from TheFullRunThrough. After launching a global anti-trafficking movement in his teens, Chris Schrader didn't settle down—he leveled up.In Part Two, the founder of the 24 Hour Race draws parallels between navigating the Gobi Desert and leading high-growth businesses across continents. From dropping out of Harvard to leading expeditions and scaling software companies, Chris shares why building teams isn't about maximizing your strongest players—it's about supporting your weakest. And why sometimes, real leadership means being the “secretary of the team,” not the star. This episode goes beyond business tactics and into the mindset behind meaningful leadership. It's a deep dive into servant leadership, self-doubt, ruthless decision-making, and how to chase your personal North Star—even if you never reach it.Key Highlights of Our Interview:When ISIS Threats and Identity Crises Collide“Some challenges are existential—like not knowing what we are. Others are urgent—like whether to cancel an event after a terror threat.”The Expedition Analogy: Climbing Unmapped Peaks“Trying to grow an organization is like summiting a mountain no one's climbed before—you'll miss things, reroute, and sometimes have to turn back.”The Gobi Desert and the North Star“You navigate by stars knowing you'll never touch them. That's what great goals are—worth chasing even if you never arrive.”The Secret to Team Performance“You're not defined by your best players. You're defined by your weakest. Great leaders either lift them—or make hard calls.”Servant Leadership Isn't Just Humility—It's Precision“As a leader, I'm the expedition secretary. My job is to clear the path so my team can outperform me in every way.”When to Cut Loose and When to Coach“Too many leaders let low performers drag down morale. In expeditions, that mistake can get someone killed. In business, it just slowly kills momentum.”The Myth-Building Side of Leadership“Sometimes leadership means becoming something aspirational—a myth people can believe in. But you still serve the mission, not yourself.”Between What You Want to Be and What You Need to Be“I want to be the first man to circumnavigate the moon. But I need to be a good son, a great partner, a reliable chairman—and pay my sous-vide-powered electricity bill.”The Hardest Impact Isn't Global—It's Personal“It's easy to romanticize Musk or Zuckerberg. Harder? Being the friend who actually shows up. That's the real Paragon of humanity.”_____________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Chris Schrader --Chief Change Officer--Change Ambitiously. Sometimes the biggest movements begin with a simple question: What can I do?In Part One, Chris Schrader, founder and executive chairman of the 24 Hour Race, shares the unfiltered origin story behind the world's largest student-run movement to fight human trafficking. What started as a walk across England in memory of a friend became a 24-hour endurance race, then a global platform that's raised over US$20 million across 25 cities. But Chris doesn't romanticize it. He breaks down how it all came together—messy, accidental, and fueled more by belief than a master plan. From skeptical school principals to six-figure fundraisers, this episode explores what happens when students stop waiting for permission and start building real impact from the ground up.Key Highlights of Our Interview:The Walk That Started It All“Six months after a joke about walking across England, we were actually doing it—and raised HK$200,000 for rare diseases.”From Expedition to Endurance Sport“We turned a 150km trek across Hong Kong into a run-swim-row challenge—just to prove what students could really do.”The Birth of the 24 Hour Race“A simple idea: teams running a 24-hour relay. No elite athletes, just anyone willing to push themselves for a cause.”Why He Chose Human Trafficking—Without Knowing Much About It“It wasn't the topic at first. It was the intensity. We needed a cause strong enough to power people through the pain.”Ignored by Schools, Backed by Students“Principals laughed us out of the room. So we went straight to students—and they built the movement themselves.”From One-Off Event to Global Force“What was supposed to be a one-time race exploded. Within a year, we were oversubscribed and scaling city by city.”Beyond Fundraising: Creating Life-Defining Moments“It's not just money. Over a million young people have done the race. We want them to remember it when they're 80.”Why They Treat Charity Like a Marketplace“People come for the music, the sleepover, the fun—and that's fine. We win them over without preaching.”Raising Future Leaders, Not Just Dollars“Student directors interview NGOs, ask hard questions, and learn how to be real fiduciaries—not just fundraisers.”_____________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Chris Schrader --Chief Change Officer--Change Ambitiously. Leonard Bernstein, in his famous Norton Lectures, extolled repetition, saying that it gave poetry its musical qualities and that music theorists' refusal to take it seriously did so at their peril. In Play It Again, Sam: Repetition in the Arts (MIT Press, 2025), Samuel Jay Keyser explores in detail the way repetition works in poetry, music, and painting. He argues, for example, that the same cognitive function underlies both how poets write rhyme in metrical verse and the way songwriters like Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn (“Satin Doll”) and Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart (“My Funny Valentine”) construct their iconic melodies. Furthermore, the repetition found in these tunes can also be found in such classical compositions as Mozart's Rondo alla Turca and his German Dances, as well as in galant music in general. The author also looks at repetition in paintings like Gustave Caillebotte's Rainy Day in Paris, Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans, and Jackson Pollock's drip paintings. Finally, the photography of Lee Friedlander, Roni Horn, and Osmond Giglia—Giglia's Girls in the Windows is one of the highest-grossing photographs in history—are all shown to be built on repetition in the form of visual rhyme. The book ends with a cognitive conjecture on why repetition has been so prominent in the arts from the Homeric epics through Duke Ellington and beyond. Artists have exploited repetition throughout the ages. The reason why is straightforward: the brain finds the detection of repetition innately pleasurable. Play It Again, Sam offers experimental evidence to support this claim. Learn more about your ad choices. Opie kicks off this live stream from 500 feet above NYC with a wild mix of morning musings! From a rainy night that grounded Doggie’s walk to New York City’s baffling new composting rules—complete with garbage chute dilemmas and skepticism about fines—Opie’s got plenty to unpack. He spills the beans on a harrowing electric scooter crash (don’t worry, he’s back in the game with a giant helmet!), reflects on breaking family cycles, and shares heartfelt stories about guilt, happiness, and his mom’s tough Christmases. Plus, roll calls with the regulars, a fake-out April Fool’s prank, and some spicy takes on tariffs, Tesla, and NYPD horses. It’s raw, real, and all Opie—tune in for the ride!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This is a great meditation for depression, as well as just feeling sad, down or "blue." While meditations are not a substitute for medical help when we are suffering from depression, practices like this one can support your biochemistry in healing. How you think affects how you feel, which affects your biochemistry. Practicing shifting out of the patterns of thoughts and feelings that cause you to feel bad can really help minimize that downward spiral. Episode brought to you by Shopify.
