*DISCLAIMER* This week's episode is sure to ruffle some feathers. This is your ONLY reminder to be civil in the comments section. Respect other's beliefs, even if they condradict your own. :) Welcome back to the show! This week, we're diving into an eye-opening journey through the fascinating history of dinosaur discoveries and their surprising appearances in ancient art to ask one simple question: Did humans and dinosaurs co-exist? We delve into the origins of how dinosaurs were first identified, starting with Robert Plot's 1677 misidentification of a giant human bone to William Buckland's groundbreaking 1824 description of Megalosaurus. We trace the evolution of paleontology, highlighting key figures like Richard Owen, who coined the term "dinosaur" in 1842, and Gideon Mantell, who discovered Iguanodon, revolutionizing our understanding of these prehistoric giants. But that's not all! We'll explore astonishing depictions of dinosaur-like creatures in ancient art long before their "official" discovery. From Pieter Bruegel the Elder's 1562 painting "The Suicide of Saul" showing what seems to be humans riding sauropods, to Mesopotamian cylinder seals and the intriguing dinosaur engravings on Bishop Bell's tomb brass from the 15th century, the evidence is compelling. We'll also investigate the Narmer Palette of ancient Egypt and the mysterious Stegosaurus carving at Cambodia's Ta Prohm temple, challenging conventional scientific narratives. Join us as we unravel these historical puzzles and speculate on the coexistence of humans and dinosaurs. Whether you're a skeptic or a believer, this episode promises to ignite your curiosity and provoke thought. Don't miss out on this deep dive into the unknown, where history, science, and mythology intersect in surprising ways. --- TIME STAMPS: SPOTIFY 0:00 - Sound Board Check 1:14 - Did Humans and Dinosaurs Co-Exist? Of all the men who contributed to Behold Your God: Rethinking God Biblically, Mr. Richard Owen Roberts was the one who had the most influence. This was not because he was directly involved with the writing, or production of the study. It was because of his influence on Dr. John Snyder early in his life and ministry. Mr. Roberts has been a close friend and mentor of John Snyder for decades and that is why John desired to have Mr. Roberts contribute to the study. We may recognize these Parts through internal exchanges or conflicts (e.g. part of me wants this, part of me wants that) or through our experience of family members and others we know very well (oh, they're being like THAT again!). We find ourselves frequently in the grip or flow of these parts, acting out distinctly different characters on auto-pilot, in response to people and environments. The model is grounded in a range of existing theories, uniting and expanding them from an exciting new perspective. Influences include Jungian Psychological Type, Jungian Analyst Dr John Beebe, TA (Transactional Analysis), Transpersonal Psychologist Prof. John Rowan, modern consciousness research and more. And then you have Yasmina or Yas who is a teen athlete, extremely fit, she's been training for years and she always shines when there's a need for speed and agility. The last one is Sammy, Sammy is full of energy, is one of those people that has such a bubbly personality that she's always able to cheer everyone up. So these are the characters, pretty stereotypical, right? The story line is very simple. These six teenagers, the original plan was they would go to this camp at the Jurassic Park. And they would enjoy a fascinating camp experience, seeing all the dinosaurs doing all the activities. But then you know as with any of the Jurassic movies, things go horribly wrong. And these teenagers were left on the island, having to survive and defending themselves, and trying to eventually get off the island. So that's pretty much the background of the story. And of course the biggest story line is about dinosaurs. So let's take a look at dinosaurs. The word dinosaur was coined by sir Richard Owen in 1841 to describe the fossils of these reptiles. So he came up with the word dinosaur combining the Greek words “deinos”, which means terrible, and “sauros”, which means lizard, terrible lizards, 恐怖的蜥蜴, and there you have dinosaur. The study of dinosaurs belongs to the field of Paleontology. If you watch Friends you'd know that, that's Ross' field. The dinosaurs lived in the Mesozoic era, Mesozoic era中生代被称为the age of dinosaurs, because dinosaurs were the dominant species of the age, that was about 252 to 66 million years ago. Mesozoic era included three consecutive geological time periods. 中生代又分为三个季Triassic period 三叠纪, Jurassic period 侏罗纪, and Cretaceous period白垩纪, whenever we watch any movies within the Jurassic franchise, what most of us are interested in are dinosaurs themselves. What types of dinosaurs are we seeing? There are many ways to categorize dinosaurs, the basic ones by what they eat, like other species, we can categorize dinosaurs as carnivore, the meat eaters, 肉食; Herbivore, the plant eaters, 植食; and Omnivore, the everything eater, 杂食.Dinosaurs who eat other animals can be called predators, 掠食者. And if no one can eat them or hunt them in the food chain then they are Apex predator, Any animals they hunt are called prey. But then obviously there are more complex ways to categorize dinosaurs. So the two major categories that most dinosaurs seem to fall into are Saurischians, meaning lizard hipped, and Ornithischian or bird hipped. Let's start with Saurischians . Under Saurischians, there are two major sub categories. The first category is called Theropods beast-footed. 在龙盘目或者蜥臀目下面有两个主要的亚目, 第一个是Theropods 兽脚亚目, they tend to be meat eaters, they have powerful legs and short arms. Any particular dinosaur comes to mind. Yes, the tyrannosaurus暴龙.Let's face it, it simply wouldn't be a good dinosaur movie if it doesn't have tyrannosaurus in it. But it's not just a tyrannosaurus, pretty much all these fake scary creatures that appear in the Jurassic franchise and also more specifically in this TV series, belong to the Theropods category.

Michael Denton on Predetermined Body Plans and Primal Patterns

On this classic ID The Future, biologist Michael Denton discusses the implications of recurring animal body plans, arguing that they are predetermined types undergirding less fundamental “adaptive masks.” Denton questions the ability of a Darwinian process to account for these high-level patterns found in living systems, such as the recurring body plan of insects. Denton suggests instead that these recurrent forms extend from original “primal patterns,” much as argued by such nineteenth-century opponents of Darwinism as Richard Owen and Louis Agassiz. Denton says their arguments were brushed aside by those fixated on a Darwinian/adaptationist model, but never effectively answered. Dr. Denton is author, most recently, of the capstone work in his Privileged Species series, The Miracle of Man: The Fine Read More › Source

Sales and Marketing Built Freedom

Two-time CEO and first time founder of OCX Cognition Richard Owen talks to Ryan in this episode. OCX Cognition is a software and data science company that uses machine learning to create real-time NPS and customer health performance. Previously to this, Richard Owen ran DELL's ecommerce platform and he has also built two software companies. Richard and Ryan talk about NPS (Net-Promoter-Score), NRR (Net-Recurring-Revenue) and how using machine learning to predict and measure these can provide an invaluable resource and tool for companies. Richard also talks about and advocates on how your customers are your best marketing assett as well as your best collaborators too! KEY TAKEAWAYS OCX are due to reach their first million, they sell large tickets to enterprises, focusing on margins at a high value rather than volume of clients. There's a narrative in the business community that you launch and are successful in six months, but this simply isn't true. It takes a lot of hard graft, time and commitment to grow and reach your first million and beyond. Companies are always trying to figure out net revenue retention. What we know to be true in the business world, is that customers ultimately renew based on their experiences with the company relative to their expectations. Previously companies would either ask their internal teams or you would survey customers to gain this information. But this was far from an exact science. So, what OCX Cognition does is use machine learning instead to predict behaviour. OCX Cognition are really bringing a lot of computer and logic based science to what was previously a very anecdotal and guesswork situation. When OCX Cognition was created, Richard worked with clients as a service based product, using other data systems from people he knew. Once they had created solutions and value for these clients, Richard then used the capital gained to build and create their own software. If customers want to work with you and are interested in your end solution, then you can follow this approach too. But be prepared to make many changes along the way and forever be evolving to meet clients and customers needs. Your biggest cost when starting is in engineering. You are spending time and money creating software that you won't use or that doesn't work so be hyper-aware and wary of this fact. Your customers are your best marketing asset and your best collaborators. Word of mouth and recommendations are powerful tools and customers will tell you what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong too. What every company needs to understand is there a whole host of experiences that contribute to a customer making a decision on whether to stay, go forward or retract from a vendor and these interactions all start very early. The customer is in a constant state of revaluating where they are and how they feel about the company. Out of everything you are do as a company, what things have the highest impact? Think about this and work accordingly, not everything you do or focus on is equal.   BEST MOMENTS “What every CEO of a company wants to understand is what essentially is my true condition of my customer base” “Leverage your clients as capital” “Every new customer we take on we are learning something that improves our fundamental algorithms” “Think of this as a continuous stream of activities that a customer is consuming and all of those activities impact their static level of loyalty to that company” Do You Want The Closing Secrets That Helped Close Over $125 Million in New Business for Free?"  Grab them HERE: https://www.whalesellingsystem.com/closingsecrets   Ryan Staley Founder and CEO Whale Boss 312-848-7443 ryan@whalesellingsystem.com www.ryanstaley.io    EPISODE RESOURCES https://ocxcognition.com https://www.linkedin.com/company/ocxcognition https://www.linkedin.com/in/richard-owen-98ba3/   ABOUT THE SHOW How do you grow like a VC backed company without taking on investors?

And, after doing this for seven years, we have found a way to connect dinosaurs to any conversation.” (19:03) (Sabrina) “It doesn't take much research to find that a T-Rex was probably a predator. It doesn't have the types of adaptations you'd expect to see in a scavenger. It has tons of adaptations you'd expect to see in a predator. Other times, you do have to dig a little bit deeper when you're looking for a question that isn't as popular as T-Rex.” (31:46) (Garret) “For sponsors, that one was a lightbulb moment when we were talking to a friend who knew much more about marketing than us at the time. And we were planning on going on a road trip where there's a lot of dinosaur museums. And she said, ‘Why don't you ask the museums if they want to sponsor you?'” (32:57) (Sabrina) “The community is definitely both of our favorite parts. It's the most rewarding. Some days it feels harder to get the show out and then you login to Discord or you read some of the messages people have sent and you think, ‘Yes, this is why we're doing it. I'm ready to go.'” (37:06) (Sabrina) “I think it's a combination of things. You've got more people who want to be paleontologists because of movies like Jurassic Park. But also the technology has gotten better. It's not that easy to find a fossil but we have better tools now to excavate and prepare it and study them.” (46:01) (Sabrina) Links Mentioned: FullCast Website –https://fullcast.co/ ( https://fullcast.co/) Podcast Junkies Junkies Facebook Group –https://www.facebook.com/groups/podcastjunkiesjunkies/ ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/podcastjunkiesjunkies/) Link to Podfest Expo Virtual Summit –https://podfestexpo.com/ ( https://podfestexpo.com/) Link to The Podosphere - https://www.thepodosphere.com/ (https://www.thepodosphere.com/) Link to Society of Vertebrate...

Not All Fossils Give Up Their Stories Right Away. Welcome to October 13, 2021 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate digging up history and our Nation's fighting spirit.  In 1676, a giant leg bone was unearthed in England. Scientists didn't know what it was, or where it came from, but they examined it and decided that it had come from—a giant. They were partially right. While they were envisioning a human-like, fairytale giant, it was actually from a giant lizard that would later come to be known as a dinosaur. Specifically, a Megalosaurus. But no one realized that until nearly 150 years later, when scientist Richard Owen pieced it all together. Today we use fossils to better understand the history of our planet and the evolution of life on it. On National Fossil Day, dig up some cool facts on these links to the past that teach us from the dust. On this day in 1775, the Second Continental Congress formally established what would become the United States Navy.  The most famous American Captain from this era was John Paul Jones.  In 1779, he engaged the British 44 gun Royal Navy frigate, Serapis.  With his ship burning and sinking, Jones refused to surrender and he uttered the now famous words, “I have not yet begun to fight.”  And it turns out he was right!  Three hours after making this declaration, the British ship surrendered to him and Jones took command. On our Navy's Birthday, we celebrate the men and women who carry on the fighting spirit of Captain Jones.   I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson.  Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.

While CEO at Satmetrix, his team led the development of the Net Promoter Score methodology with Fred Reichheld, which created the most widely used approach to measuring customer experience in the world. Together with Dr. Laura Brooks he co-authored “Answering the ultimate question” which quickly became the “how-to” guide for NPS practitioners. Richard launched netpromoter.com which was supported by over 20,000 subscribers; the NPS Certification program with over 6,000 companies taking part and a conference series that ran for 10 years and 20 conferences.Today he is the founder and CEO of OCX Cognition, a consulting and data science company using machine learning to create real-time NPS and customer health performance data. Richard has enjoyed a 30-year career centered around the use of technology to transform business operations. As an executive at Dell Computer Corporation, he oversaw the re-engineering of the companies supply chain operations, the growth of Dell's consumer business in Japan, and as VP of Online, the scaling of the world's largest electronic commerce business of the 1990s. He has led two software companies to successful exits, with AvantGo (mobile enterprise software) achieving a public listing on the Nasdaq and Satmetrix, the cloud software co-creator of NPS, sold to NICE Systems. Richard has held several board positions in both public and private companies and has served on compensation, audit, and special board committees. An active venture investor, he most recently joined the board of Ajua, an innovative pioneer in customer data based in Nairobi, Kenya. Having lived in Japan, the UK, and the USA, he is a true international business thinker and Africa is a new and exciting passion for him.Richard holds an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Nottingham, England, and an MBA From the MIT Sloan School of Management. Tweetable Quotes: ● “Historical data has biases...it doesn’t necessarily give you a good view of what the future looks like.” – Richard Owen● “It’s very very hard to operationalize those capital market models...The assumptions that you’ve built into the plan then need to change because the portfolio has changed.” – Richard Owen ● “Really, a lot of this is about driving what is the next best action for the advisor.” – Jason Pereira ● “You tell us the asset allocation and portfolio value, we’ll project out that future returns. What you do with that really depends on the use case.” – Richard Owen Resources Mentioned: ● Facebook – Jason Pereira’s Facebook ● LinkedIn – Jason Pereira’s LinkedIn ● FintechImpact.co – Website for Fintech Impact ● JasonPereira.ca – Sign up for Jason Pereira’s newsletter ● Woodgate.com – Website for Woodgate Financial ● Ortecfinance.com – Website for Ortec See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The word "dinosaur" itself, coined in 1842 by paleontologist Richard Owen, comes from the Greek for "fearsome lizard". This view began to shift during the so-called dinosaur renaissance in scientific research in the late 1960s, and by the mid-1990s  significant evidence had emerged that dinosaurs were much more closely  related to birds, which descended directly from the theropod group of dinosaurs and are themselves a subgroup within the Dinosauria. The Rwandan genocide, also known as the genocide against the Tutsi, was a mass slaughter of Tutsi, Twa, and moderate Hutu in Rwanda, which took place between 7 April and 15 July 1994 during the Rwandan Civil War.  The militia murdered victims with machetes and rifles. An estimated 500,000 to 1,000,000 Rwandans were killed, about 70% of the country's Tutsi population. Sexual violence was rife, with an estimated 250,000 to 500,000 women raped during the genocide. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Should qualitative researchers be thinking about adding mobile to their qualitative toolbox? Richard Owen, founder and CEO of Crowdlab says, without hesitation, yes! Who is Richard Owen? Well, Richard has been in the market research business for over twenty years and has worked at prestigious firms such as Millward Brown, Copernicus, and Hall &  Partners.  Frustrated by the pace of change (or lack thereof) in the market research industry, Richard founded Crowdlab as a company designed to field high quality research empowered by bleeding edge technology to amplify the wonders of traditional research thinking and doing.  If you want to know exactly what that means then you will have to listen to this podcast! Now I know what you may be thinking – how can this help me as a qualitative research consultant or a buyer of qualitative research? Here are a few thought starters; what if instead of walking behind a shopper on a shop-a-long, you empower participants to keep a shopping diary using their mobile phone to answer questions, take pictures, and record video while on a REAL shopping trip and use that footage as stimuli for a one on one or group interview? What if you could get people who are in the shopping process for a new car to use their mobile phone to answer questions and capture video before, during, and after going to a car dealer?  Mobile technology can help you do that and you can learn more about these and other practical qualitative applications by listening to our conversation with Crowdlab’s Richard Owen.

The book he describes, “Repentance: The First Work of the Gospel” is like no other on this topic and can easily be found. Here are a few thought starters; what if instead of walking behind a shopper on a shop-a-long you empower participants to keep a shopping diary using their mobile phone to answer questions, take pictures, or record video while on a real shopping trip and use that footage as stimuli for a one on one or group interview? What if you could get people who are in the shopping process for a new car to use their mobile phone to answer questions and capture video before, during, and after going to a car dealer?  Mobile technology can help you do that and you can learn more about these and other practical qualitative applications by listening into our conversation with Crowdlab’s Richard Owen.

Every good story needs a villain. And there has been quite a few in the history of evolution theory. History has not been kind to Richard Owen. But just like the story of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Owen had his good side. Not that his good side cared about the proper treatment of his fellow man, his good side cared more about the proper treatment, and appreciation of, science.
