This episode features Drew Mayville of Buffalo Trace and Sazerac. When Drew was originally looking for work he applied to a brewery and a distillery. The distillery turned out to be Seagram's. In hind sight this was his best move. He began in the distillery lab. After many years of working in different areas he was promoted to the Master Blender. We discuss his role at Buffalo Trace and some of the nuances for being a Master Blender. His first priority is being responsible for the consistency and quality of the spirit that goes into every bottle. This episode features Jamie Arking of Roger Wilco Wine and Spirits. The legend is that in the 1950's there was an airport close by. There was a pilot there that had a small liquor store at the airport. The business grew to the locations that you can find them today. In 1984 Jamie's father and uncle purchased the business. A great explosion took place. His first job , at 11 years old, was bagging ice. He took off, explored the United States, to blaze his own path. Until one day in 2009 his father called him back into the store. Jamie shares that the customer service has always been the most important focus. The other goal was to have a huge selection and variety of products. In this episode, Jamie shares how he is working to source products through the supply chain issues. Netflix neuester Coup: Bandersnatch - aber mehr davon brauche ich nicht! Immer wieder, wenn über die Zukunft des Fernsehens gesprochen wird, fällt in einem Atemzug der Name Netflix. Daher ist es selbstverständlich, dass es eben dieser Streaming-Dienst ist, der uns zu Weihnachten in die schöne Zukunftswelt des Fernsehen blicken lässt: Active Decision Making. Was im Kino mit alternativen Enden oder belanglosen Mitbestimm-Gucken schon so grandios gescheitert ist, dass sich keiner mehr von uns daran erinnern kannt, nerv aber im Streaming um so mehr! Sollte DAS wirklich die Zukunft des Fernseh-Schauens sein, bin ich raus - macht das ruhig mal ohne mich! "Interaktives" TV von Netflix // Quelle: Netflix.de[/caption]Wem Black Mirror als Serie nichts sagt, hat echt die Zukunft verpasst! Pro Staffel drei Folgen, die einen (düsteren) Ausblick in die Zukunft wagen und wie wir künftig leben werden. Unvergessen, und in China mittlerweile auf dem Weg der Realität, die Folge, wo wir im echten Leben einen "social point" sammeln - und damit bestimmt wird, "wo" wir stehen und was wir bekommen können: Sonnenseite, Schönheit, Reichtum oder Mülltunne, Schlammhaufen und Gosse. Also, wer die Serie noch nicht gesehen hat, viel Spaß beim jetzt sofort ansehen! (Kein Netflix? Kein Problem! Dort gibt es kostenlose Probe-Accounts!) Und nun kam Netflix auf die Idee, dass das Konzept auch als Film gehen müsste. Und da Netflix nicht Netflix wäre, wurde daraus ein "interaktiver Netflix Film" - voller Anspielungen auf die frühere und heutige Techwelt, ein wenig "sich selbst auf die Schippe" nehmen und dem Offensichtlichsten zuerst: Bandersnatch ist ein Film, in dem es um die Computerspiel-Umsetzung des Buches Bandersnatch geht und welcher als Film Bandersnatch vom Zuschauer gesteuert werden soll... seid ihr noch bei mir? Und so entwickelt sich daraus im schlimmsten Fall eine Endlosschleife. Die Entscheidung "Tee über den Computer schütten" oder "Gegen den Monitor schlagen" führen jeweils in eine andere Geschichte. Und diese kann nun nach 30 oder erst nach 47 Minuten zu Ende sein, je nachdem, in welchem "Entscheidungsbaum" ihr Euch mit Eurer/Euren Entscheidung(en) klickt. Und da liegt für mich der Hase im Pfeffer: ist ja ne geile Idee, und hat es auch mehrfach erfolglos gegeben, zum Beispiel auch im vierten (oder dritten?) Teil (auf DVD!) von Final Destination! Ja, wirklich! Soll der Typ überleben? Schneller oder grausamer Tod? Großes Chaos oder direkter einfacher Schlag? Fand ich auch schon auf der DVD lästig - aber hier hat die Filmfirma in weiser Voraussicht bereits eine zweite Scheibe OHNE die ganzen Blöd-Menüs beigelegt. Und nun also Netflix. Und nicht nur banale Auswahlen, die mal schnell eine Szene beeinflussen - nein, es geht um das weitere Spiel und den somit möglichen alternativen Ausgang des Ganzen. Auch nervig: je aggressiver man ran geht, desto schneller ist alles vorbei. Und schon sieht man die Meldung "Wiederholen?" - und schwupps, springt man zu der Szene zurück, bei der die erste Fehlentscheidung geschah... oder was auch immer diese Sprünge bedeuten sollen... Ich fand die Geschichte und die Idee toll - wenn man aber davor sitzt, holt einen sofort das kalte Grausen ein. Alle paar Minuten ein Klick oder das sich ziehende Abwarten, bis "Netflix" die Entscheidung für einen trifft. Und für all das muss dann das Handy oder Tablet (oder ein Computer mit kompatiblem Browser, bei mir klappte der aktuelle Chrome auf Anhieb!) genommen werden. Nicht mal die OFFIZIELLE Windows-10-Netflix-App kann damit umgehen, auch kein amazon TV... Toll! Ich wollte ja schon lange mal wieder einen Freitag-abend-Fernseh-Abend versammelt um ein Handy auf dem Wohnzimmertisch haben - mit toller Tonqualität und HD-Auflösung... und dann das dauernde Umfallen, wenn man auf eine Entscheidung klicken will/muss... Super! NICHT! Nun denn: danke für das, hoffentlich einmalige, Experiment. Viel mehr interessiert mich allerdings, wann das Original, die Serie, endlich weiter geht. Die letzte war unfassbar krass - da bin ich echt gespannt, wie man das toppen oder in gänzlich andere Bahnen lenken möchte! Aber bitte, bitte, bitte - hört auf mit Entscheidungsbullshit auf, der bevorzugt nur auf Handy oder Tablet mit der offiziellen Netflix-App läuft - das nervt, ist langweilig und es braucht kein Mensch, Entscheidungsbäume hin oder her! Und mit Zukunft hat das auch nichts zu tun! Es ist nur ein Versuch, gescheiterte Kino- und DVD-Versuche nun auch aktiv ins Streaming zu bringen... wobei ich mir im zweiten Anlauf, der ebenfalls schnell endete, die ganze Sache mit den automatischen Auswahlen von Netflix angesehen habe - und es nur noch störender fand. Da singe ich jetzt ein Hochlied auf normale "symmetrische" Drehbücher, die von Anfang bin Ende nur meiner Unterhaltung und keiner Mitmachkultur dienen. Sorry, Netflix - aber dieses Experiment habt ihr einfach nur versaut: das war zu viel! Und bei Euch so? Black Mirror nicht Euer Fall, daher erst gar nicht den Film angefangen? Oder seid ihr, ganz "Roger Wilco"-like unermüdlich durch die Bäume, bis ihr wirklich am Ende wart? Oder auch nach ein paar Minuten einfach ausgemacht und nicht wieder gekommen? Ich bin gespannt, wie es Euch so ergangen ist, mit "Bandersnatch"...! Und damit einen guten Start ins neue Jahr Euch allen - schön, dass wir uns auch in 2019 hier wieder treffen und regelmäßig austauschen! Guten Start, falls morgen Euer erster Arbeitstag ist! We talk about those old days, the flexibility of working with a parser, and all the constraints on game development in the early days.
