Financial Planning In Between The SheetsAir Date: Tuesday, 26 January 2021 at 12:00 PM ET/9:00 AM PTToday I’m having my sexy silver fox, and financial planner husband, Dan as my special guest. Usually we do a Pleasure and Bedroom & Bank episode, but I thought it might be fun to have him be a guest and me interview him, like I would my other guests. Dan Hague is an incredible caring man, a phenomenal husband (he didn’t pay me to say that), and amazing dad to our very 2 high energy boys, a generator of community, a champion of charity, and an avid believer that HEALTH IS WEALTH. He is a soloist finisher of the Canadian Death Race, which is a 125 km race up and down 3 mountains in Grande Cache Alberta (just outside of Jasper) and he finished it in 22 hours and 21 minutes. He is also a one-time record holder of the most amount of stairs climbed at the Great Stair Climb at Telus Tower in our local hometown of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada- which just to put this in perspective is a 34-storey highrise office tower consisting of 716 stairs. He climbed this 47 times in 18 hours, meaning the he ascended and decended over 67,000 stairs. He also just happens to be a Certified Financial Planner, Registered Retirement Consultant, and Chartered Insurance Professional. Dan also has a Business Degree specializing in MarketingAmbitious people who have a focus on developing and maintaining wealth hire Dan to guide them through the complex world of finances. He helps you increase your confidence in your own financial picture, work with you to outline a solid path to achieve your personal financial goals, and is a pillar of support, ethics, education, and expertise. He uses efficient and effective financial strategies, some not available to the general market, to ensure his clients’ wealth is enhanced. The Celtics/NBA season has gotten quite complicated over the last few weeks. On our last show the Celtics Talk Radio crew discussed the breaking news that Jayson Tatum and Robert Williams had tested positive for Covid-19 and that more then half the team was at risk of now being uneligible to play in the teams upcoming games due to the NBA's protocols to try and help limit the spread. Sure enough the next few games for the Celtics were all postponed to later dates that are to be determined due to the Celtics or their opponents not having the required amount of players needed to play in the game. So where do the Celtics now stand not only in the NBA Standings but also injury and schedule wise here in Saturday JAN 16th. Meanwhile the NBA did have some big news that has taken the sports world by storm and has many Celtics fans now reacting which was Houston Rockets Superstar James Harden was traded to the Brooklyn Nets and he will join forces with Kevin Durant and former Celtics Kyrie Irving. The Celtics had been linked to James Harden but it was reported the only way the Celtics could have traded for Harden was to give up Jaylen Brown. So now that Harden is off the table what does this mean for the Celtics. Does this move which now has many experts saying the East is all but wrapped up in the Nets favor put more pressure on Danny Ainge to possibly make a move of some sort to help aid the Celtics big 3 of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kemba Walker to increase the Celtics chances of coming out of the East? Whats the latest on Kemba Walkers return and can we be confident he will remain healthy enough to help Tatum and Brown once they go toe to toe with the Nets? We will discuss all that and more with B Ball Insiders Reporter Bobby Krivitsky (@BobbyKrivitsky on twitter) and Celtics sports writer and fan Andrew Vernon

This weekend and next, on Documentary on Newstalk, Producer Brian Byrne brings you the story of Dublin’s past, as told by the city’s six historians in residence - in History in Residence... History in Residence premieres on Newstalk 106-108fm on Sunday Jan 12th at 7am, with a repeat broadcast on Saturday Jan 18th at 9pm. In 2016 thousands of people took to the streets across the country to take part in events commemorating the Easter Rising. In Dublin alone there were over 100 different community events. This was when Dublin City Council identified the real appetite for history in the city, and the need for community-based history resource. This was how the historians in residence program was born. The following year in 2017, the council hired 6 historians in residence (the first of their kind in the city) with the mandate to take history down from the ‘ivory tower’ of academia, and back into our communities. To deepen and empower public connection to the past, promoting a sense of historical identity and pride - and to show that history can be just as much about the present, as it is the past. “It’s probably unique that a local authority and a library service is taking historians and encouraging them to go out and talk to people about history. I think sometimes people are overwhelmed by history, or it’s boring or its too much, or I don't know how to do it or its hard to read, we wanted to just let people to have access and engagement to history, to be able to to go to a talk or a walk, or take part in a discussion, exhibition. It’s just bringing history out onto the streets if you like. Making it that bit easier to tap into. And I think their enthusiasm and their passion for history just comes across when you talk to them, they just love history and talking to people about history, and that’s just infectious and its very positive.” Tara Doyle, Senior Librarian, Dublin City Council Cathy Scuffil, Maeve Casserly, Mary Muldowney, Cormac Moore, Bernard Kelly and James Curry make up the team of historians. They each have their ‘own’ area of Dublin to work in, and over the past 2 years they’ve held talks, given guided walks, helped the revival of weaving in the Liberties, started history clubs, oral history projects and made history engaging for people from all walks of life. This documentary follows the work of the historians in residence, and takes you on a journey across Dublin and into its past, featuring little known stories behind some of Dublin’s history- like why the forty foot is called the forty foot, why Hannah Sheehy Skeffington did to the census or the origin of the animals which once adorned our coins. BROADCAST TIMES: History in Residence premieres on Newstalk 106-108fm on Sunday Jan 12th at 7am, with a repeat broadcast on Saturday Jan 18th at 9pm. PODCAST: The programme will be available for download from newstalk.com after the broadcast. CREDITS: History in Residence was produced by Brian Byrne & funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland with the television license fee. Not this show, videos on youtube or any book or seminar for that matter. It's nothing but you who can make yourself successful You don't need a life coach, in fact nobody does. People don't wake up in the morning looking to hire life coaches to solve their problems. We don't need life coaches but we need coaching. Intent is not enough, you need to become intentional. People shouldn't hire you for what you can do.. but they should instead for who you are. That's when you make big money.

Most of our National Parks remain open… but the partial governmental shutdown is causing some major problems across the country. In this episode of the podcast, we’ll update you on the latest. Plus, we talk about the controversial practice of wolf hunting near Yellowstone National Park. And, as always, we have  your questions, comments and tips. And this week, we also have a huge list of the many RV Shows being held around the country over the next couple of weeks. WHAT MIKE AND JENNIFER ARE UP TO THIS WEEK MIKE: We’re excited and packing for one of our favorite camping adventures of the year, our annual Winter Freeze Out gathering up at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. JENNIFER: We literally had to stop the packing to sneak into the studio here to record this episode but as soon as we’re done we’ll be back loading our RV with snow shoes, ski poles, extra boots and our warm weather clothing. MIKE: It is going to be cold up there. I just looked at the forecast and it’s going to get down to the lower single digits Fahrenheit Thursday through Sunday. The gathering officially runs Friday through Sunday but it has become so popular that many of the attendees, us included, are coming up early. We’ll actually be in the UP from Wednesday through Sunday. JENNIFER: We were worried that there wouldn’t be much snow up there because it’s been a very mild winter so far. But they got hit by a big snowstorm Monday and it is supposed to snow a couple inches just about every day this week. Of the 40 or so sites that the ark plows out for winter camping, our group has reserved about 35 of them. So we’re talking a lot of RVers. MIKE: We’ll leave there on Sunday or Monday but then we have to skedaddle south… all the way to sunny and warm Tampa Florida where we will be attending the huge RV Supershow at the Florida State Fairgrounds January 16-20. Talk about contrast: We’ll be leaving a place with a foot and a half of snow on the ground and replacing our parka with shorts and sandals in the land of palm trees! JENNIFER: The RV Supershow is one of the largest RV shows in the country and we’ll be doing several reports from there on the Roadtreking.com RV Lifestyle blog and on our Facebook Page and RV Lifestyle YouTube Channel. And we’re really excited that we’ll have a meet and greet with our followers on Saturday Jan 18 from 11AM-2PM at the Roadtrek display area at the show. It’s always fun to get to meet folks in person. MIKE: There are so many RV shows over the next few weeks. We’ll itemize a bunch of them at the end of the podcast. But RV Shows are THE best place to shop for a new RV, or to find the perfect accessories you need, JENNIFER: Let’s remind everyone on where they can find more information about the topics and stories we report in this episode. A lot of people are driving as they listen, or hiking or walking the dog or working out and can’t necessarily write down the resources we share. But they are all available in the shownotes for this episode, which can be found on the Roadtreking RV Lifestyle blog at Roadtreking.com/224. We build in links to everything we talk about here and the shownotes are like a detailed transcript. MIKE: Reminder about new phone number to call in questions and comments for the Podcast - (586) 372-6990.   RV NEWS OF THE WEEK JENNIFER Plan now to see the 'Super Wolf Blood Moon Total Lunar Eclipse' coming later this month   Have you heard about the Super Wolf Blood Moon Total eclipse? It's coming Jan. 20-21, and has many star gazers excited. A super moon is when a full moon is closest to the earth in its orbit, making it appear larger and brighter than normal. A lunar eclipse is when the earth gets between the sun and the moon, casting the earth's shadow over the moon, and the term blood comes from the moon having an orange or reddish hue during the eclipse. And what about the name wolf? Well, apparently wolf moons happen in January because,

Call on your phone and tell us all the embarrassing details and we will share it on an upcoming episode. The number is on the Roadtreking RV Travel Blog on the right hand side but, again, if you want to jot it down, its (586)-372-6990. We really want to hear from you! RV NEWS OF THE WEEK Government shutdown makes a mess in National Parks As you know, the government has been partially shutdown for the past two weeks in a huge political fight. As a result, we’re seeing human feces, overflowing garbage, illegal off-roading and other damaging behavior in fragile areas beginning to overwhelm some of the West’s iconic national parks, as the partial government shutdown left the areas open to visitors but with little staff on duty. This has left many parks without most of the rangers and others who staff campgrounds and otherwise keep parks running. Under the park service’s shutdown plan, authorities have to close any area where garbage or other problems become threats to health and safety or to wildlife. In the southern Sierra Nevada in Central California, some areas of the Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks were closed Monday evening. In Sequoia, home to immense and ancient giant sequoias, General Highway was closed because overflowing trash bins were spreading litter and posed a threat to wildlife and the icy,

Jamala Rogers, according to the website bearing her name, grew up in a working class neighborhood Kansas City, MO, coming "of political and cultural age during the tumultuous 60’s...  She’s been organizing and raising hell ever since." "Jamala currently resides in St. Louis, MO where she has devoted all of her adult life to creating a child-centered, family-oriented community–one that embraces, celebrates and protects human rights for all citizens regardless of race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation or religion...  "Jamala is a featured columnist for the award-winning St. Louis American newspaper [this is her 25th year]... and is on the editorial boards of BlackCommentator.com and The Black Scholar. She has authored many articles for both local and national publications on issues that she is passionately involved in." Rogers is married to legendary St Louis activist Percy Green and is one of the founders of the Organization for Black Struggle (OBS). OBS is celebrating its 38th anniversary on Saturday Jan 27, 2018. Here's a glance at how the conversation went: Chapter 1. A 15 minute introduction crammed into 5. (0:00-5:00) Chapter 2. Not asking for permission.  Hank asks Jamala how she came to be a leader in the black community. (5:00-11:45) Chapter 3. Malcom X or Dr. King? Garvey or DuBois? Green or Rogers? Getting to systemic change isn't an either/or proposition.  (11:45-16:45) Chapter 4. Bringing along people to help them learn about empowerment. Not everyone understands the reasoning behind protests, Rogers asks you to imagine the society we're trying to create. (16:45-26:00) Chapter 5. The fight for local control of the St Louis City Police Dept. After a 30 year fight, this may be one of the brightest feathers in Rogers' cap. (26:15-31:00) Chapter 6. Protest vs Activist vs Organizer. You should have seen Jamala glaring at Hank over her glasses when he described her as never having been loud. "I can get loud if I need to," she retorted. (31:00-43:00) Chapter 7. Highs, lows, and legacies. The first black mayor in St Louis, Reggie Clemons, Frankie Freeman, and what lies ahead for Rogers. (43:00-51:00)  You can also catch guest host Hank Thompson on the air Sunday nights at 6pm on 88.7 WSIE. Andy Heaslet engineered the show. *Our thoughts and prayers are with you, DJ Wilson!*

This weeks updates, had us celebrating on one hand. On the other however, we had to shake our head and wonder...WHY! First the head shaking update; non other than our President, Donald J. Trump. Americans are sharply divided over President Donald Trump's order to temporarily block U.S. entry for all refuges and citizens of seven Muslim countries. This is most certainly a travesty and we should really look at how this rolls out - thoughts?? We finally have the first look at the "Ocean's 8" cast. The pic shows Rihanna along with fellow cast members Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Helena-Bonham Carter and Awkwafina in a subway car. Ocean's 8 hits theaters on June 8, 2018. Oprah Winfrey may have walked away from her own successful television show long ago, but she has not left television behind. CBS has announced that Winfrey will join the long-running news program “60 Minutes” as a new special contributor. Winfrey will join “60 Minutes” this fall. BET’s The New Edition Story resonated with viewers across generations, bringing in a reported average of four million viewers each night of the three-part mini-series. Day one fans, as well as newer ones, got a front row seat to the Boston crooners’ struggles with drugs, royalties, and fights from the studio to the stage. One of the most shocking revelations was Ricky Bell’s struggle with cocaine due to Bobby Brown’s battle with drugs and alcohol being the most publicized. The biopic had our eyes glued to the screen during the drama-filled and heart-tugging moments, but it also spawned some questions about other things that happened during the group’s three decades in the business. Here are five questions that went unanswered during The New Edition Story. What do you think? At this point #BlackGirlMagic and Serena Williams have become synonymous. Williams continued to motivate many while making history. The 35-year-old played against her sister Venus Williams at the Australian Open final on Saturday (Jan. 28) and won, landing her a historic 23rd Grand Slam title. Congrats to her!   Episode 8 Show Notes Wine of the Week Jan 17-23, 2012: Pentage 2006 Barrel Femented Chardonnay This wine exhibits both the beauty and ugly side of the BC wine industry. The fact is that our local home grown industry is tiny in relation to California, South America or Europe. In fact I believe that the annual production in the tiny Italian region of Umbria more than doubles that of BC. So when there is a great vintage and a particular stellar wine from that vintage, demand is not restricted to our borders. The 2006 was by all accounts a great vintage for BC. You could go up and down the entire valley and find mind blowing wines. One in particular was found in the small winery on the Skaha Bench located just south of Penticton by the name of Pentage. The Pentage 2006 Barrell Fermented Chardonnay had gained some serious fans in Ontario and Quebec so much so that a request to ship to Quebec was made. You know the old saying as one door closes another opens, that is a perfect saying for this wine. For whatever reason this wine found its way back to BC and the Pentage winery. There isn’t a lot of space at the winery so the winery called a few partners and offered a great price to move the wine out of their warehouse to make room for this years wines. Fortunately we were lucky enough to jump on board and get 20 or so cases. The nose is rich and alluring with the aromas of baked apple, nutmeg and vanilla, while the palate bursts with fresh delicious apples, Bartlett pears and honeydew melons. This may all sound divine but the real magic, and why this wine could be fairly priced at $20 or higher, is the texture. This wine has not lost a beat. It is at once fresh with acidity but there are no harsh edges and a slight creamy-ness that is truly delightful. Get it while you can as this is a one time buy meaning that once it is gone there will be no more available to the market. BANG FOR THE BUCK SCORE: 8.15/$1 PRICE $14.99 +deposit PAIR WITH prawns and local crab, grilled chicken or roasted pork tenderloin with citrus salsa, fresh veggies and goat cheese. Episode 6 Show Notes Beer of the Week Jan 11-17, 2012: Spinnaker’s ‘Lions Head’ Cascadia Dark Ale Close your eyes for a moment and put yourself in the following position. It’s 1888 and you have been stationed in Bombay (Mumbai) India for the last 6 months. It’s 40C with the humidity of about 96% so it really feels like 48C. You have been standing in the direct Indian sun for over 2 hours and you are in your regimental dress uniform. The sweat is trickling down the back of your neck and your only thought turns to that cold brew in the mess that has just arrived from Jolly Old England. Your mind quickly retreats to the last beer shipment and you cringe as it had gone foul. 4 hours later you are pleasantly surprised that the beer is cold, it is tasty and fresh but there is something different about it. There is a definite bitterness to it for some serious hopping. What is this? This is your first taste of a new brew called October Beer from the Bow Brewery. That beer is what we today call IPA or India Pale Ale. The brew of the week does not have nearly as dramatic a start, but it is a harbinger of what will surely be a new breed or category of brews. This weeks Brew of the Week is a Cascadia Dark Ale that has evolved from Northwest India Pale Ale. The catalyst for this style is the unique flavour that hops grown in the Pacific Northwest have and how well the citrus grapefruit tone pair with dark malts. The body is heavier than traditional IPA but lighter than Porters and Stouts. The second thing you will notice is the carbonation. Designed to be served colder, there is greater carbonation. This weeks Brew of the Week is the Spinnaker’s ‘Lions Head’ Cascadia Dark Ale which gets its name from a pub located in Robson BC which just so happens to be run by Spinnaker’s proprietor Paul Hadfield’s, daughter Carly. The brew is richly textured with bright citrus tones that float on a body of roasted, smokey, chocolately malt flavours. The finish is clean which makes this an easy brew to pair with a number of dishes... I like that. I’m really tired of brews or wines that are only good for sipping on their own... that is not my world...my world is about a quality of life that is always better when shared with others over a meal and great glass of beer or wine. This beer is only available in the 650ml bottle format, which you just looks better on the table vs a 6 pack of cans or bottles. PRICE $5.99 +deposit PAIR WITH big beef burgers, pork tenderloin with a cumin rub, meat lovers pizza, rich, strong cheeses. OCCASIONS this is a great brew for Pizza Night, Family Movie Night, Casual Get Togethers, Simple Dinner parties and evenings. AVAILABILITY Only available in the 650ml bottle in Private Liquor Stores  and by the pint at Spinnaker’s Gasto Pub in Vic West. Show Notes Wine of the Week Jan 10-16, 2012: La Chamiza Bonarda When you drive through the streets of Mendoza Argentina there is a clear Italian influence on the architecture and cutlture. Many of the street names are Italian names which makes perfect sense when you consider that the majority of the immigrants that built Mendoza came from Italy in the 1860’s. A whole bunch came from the Marche region which is located on Italy’s East Coast. With that pedigree it is not too hard to see how such a vibrant wine culture has developed in Mendoza and surrounding area. One of the many gifts bestowed upon the area were some grapes, namely Bonarda. What?  You say... Bonarda, what the heck is Bonarda. It is said that Bonarda has it’s home in the hills and valleys on the border between France and Italy and is known as Charbono in California. When speaking to those in the know in Argentina they can confirm that it is not Croatina which comes from Lombardy and is likely Bonarda Piedmontese. In any case Bonarda, until recently replaced by Malbec, was the most widely planted grape in Argentina although you wouldn’t know it as it was used mostly for bulk table wines of varying qualities. Today, however, the new generation of wine maker’s is crafting varietal wines out of Bonarda that are wonderfully flavourful and rich. In fact on the buying trip I did last May, I tasted over 700 wines in 10 days and although there were numerous to die for Malbec’s, what really showed through was Bonarda’s. By nature Bonarda lends itself to our palates. We tend to like the look of inky purple wines in the glass (downside is that it can leave a nasty stain and has a penchant for falling on white silk blouses, expensive white tailored shirts and of course, white carpet), it gives us a feeling of depth and mystery. Careful though as I find that there have been many times that I have spied a ‘black’ wine and laden it with great expectations only to be met with a thin, tannic, acidic purple stain on my teeth. Anyway when it is short cropped the colour can be quite intense. The nose is often cherry, plum and bright berry, almost grapey which is good as that is what it often tastes like to. The texture makes it perfect for pairing with lighter cuisine as Bonarda is naturally low in tannin but with moderate acidity (similar in many ways to Barbera). The mouthfeel is fresh and alive and the finish is juicy but not long. Your palate will never likely tire from too much alcohol or tannin on this wine. I would happily pair this with pork, pizza, pasta, ham, roasted poultry, and cheeses like Gouda and Cheddar. The only drawback to Bonarda in BC is that there really only a few available, so the full spectrum is not available to experiment with... allow I’m doing my part to change this. Now about the La Chamiza Bonarda. La Chamiza sources their grapes from the Tupungato and Argrelo districts which are the same areas that luminary wineries like Catena source their grapes from. Bonarda is naturally late ripening so the best quality will come from regions that are warm, dry and have a long growing season. This describes Tupungato to a ‘T’.... pun intended. You may remember La Chamiza from a few years back as they were in the BC market in a big, cheap way. La Chamiza is not a low end producer. They may low key, but they are not low end. So they pulled out of the market for a couple of years in the hopes of re-establishing themselves as a quality/value producer but not a cheap one. If the Bonarda is an indication we will start to see some of the best options from this winery and region. The nose is big cherry and bright berry, with hints of grape jelly. While the palate if full of rich juicy flavours and a hint of delicate purple flowers. The texture is bright and fresh due to the acidity, and the finish is nicely juicy thanks to the low tannins. In relation to other wines in the $15 range I have to say that this really delivers, the only problem is that this was a one time buy and once it is gone it won’t come back for several months. PRICE $15.99 PAIR WITH pizza, pastas like lasagne and meat sauces, roasted chicken, pork chops, pork tenderloin, Barbecue Ribs, Burgers. OCCASIONS this is a great wine for Pizza Night, Family Movie Night, Casual Get Togethers, Simple Dinner parties and evenings. AVAILABILITY Special Order purchase so once it is gone it won't be back until the next vintage.
