Divorce can turn life as you know it upside down, but when the dust settles and you are ready to navigate this new chapter, we are here to help. This week Jade Sklaver returns to Moms Moving On to discuss adjusting to your new life after divorce with Michelle Dempsey-Multack. Michelle and Jade will dive into: Knowing when you are ready to date again Taking the time to heal before beginning to date Finding your work/life balance in single motherhood How to explain new relationships to your children AND MUCH MORE! As a University of Florida graduate, Jade Sklaver, founder of StyleChild, majored in Public Relations and pursued many fashion related internships while still in school. After completing rotations at Barney's New York, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, and major fashion PR firms, she had no doubt that was the path she was headed down. Working at a few major labels after graduating, Sklaver found herself being hired by Norma Kamali as her right hand person in design and production. The opening on the team proved to be an invaluable opportunity and would ultimately shape her future. Sklaver gained experience working with factories, fabrics, and design in addition to learning product development and production. After another corporate fashion position, and marriage, Sklaver made her way to South Florida and had her daughter, Liv Jaymes. Liv became the inspiration for what came next: StyleChild.  While pregnant with Liv and yearning for a passion project, Sklaver started building the foundation for what is now StyleChild, a kid's shoe company specializing in functional and stylish shoes at affordable prices. The business started with reselling cute and trendy "no label" sneakers and as popularity grew, Sklaver knew she needed a brand of her own to stand behind. After a major life change, Jade decided to take a leap of faith and commit to work directly with the factory to design, manufacture, and produce sneakers under her own label StyleChild. Since then, StyleChild has grown into over 25 exclusive styles, retails in stores all across the country and in Canada and has a highly trafficked website. Most recently, Jade and her small team opened a by-appointment (virtual and in-person) showroom and warehouse in Boca Raton, Florida which has given her customers a personalized shopping experience - especially important during the pandemic. Dedicated to being the best mother and entrepreneur, Jade feels passionate that others can have that same work-life balance and do something they love. She recently launched a Kicks Starter affiliate program that allows other mothers to start their own business selling the StyleChild label in specific markets.  To get an extra $100 when you sell your engagement ring to Worthy by going to https://worthy.com/moms Learn more about your ad choices. When we become parents, we never imagine spending time away from our children. Divorce changes that, and many of us are left with 50% of our time without them. Her sensitive character clearly comes forward in our conversation as Pavo explains how she picks up sensitivities in her direct environment, how she observes her own behaviour and feelings to understand which design direction to take. She will reveal how she picks the colors for her designs and how texture and fabric come into play.  What advise does she have for young fashion designers, how does Pavo translate her fantasy-like dreams into a wearable collection, what is it like to work with your family day in and out and what is next for the Mexican world of fashion? Pavo and Pamela Wong are the bright entrepreneurs behind the Mexican ready-to-wear fashion brand PINK MAGNOLIA.It was Pavo, the creative dreamer, who began sewing custom designs during college (CENTRO) and selling them at the first Pink Magnolia small store in Polanco, Mexico City. At only 21 years old, Pavo quickly found herself with a growing reputation and a demand for her eye catching clothing and silhouettes. Not long after, she convinced her sister Pamela to step into a business advisory role, cementing the perfect balance and family legacy. From there, a succession of opportunities came in the form of a Mercedes Benz Fashion Week runway invitation (one of many), and highly successful collaborations with Disney (like Lanvin, Pink Magnolia was tapped to design a wardrobe in honor of Minnie Mouse's birthday), and Barbie; propelling the Pink Magnolia brand to global status. With recent features in WWD, Vogue Mexico & Latin America, Marie Claire Hong Kong, and a spot amongst Forbes Magazine's “Under 30 Rising Stars,” Pink Magnolia is forging a path for the woman who shines inside and out.

**Content Warning: discussion of sexual assault and cult violence** In the last days of 2020, we got up early, brewed some coffee, and sat down (er, Zoomed) with Maya Azucena, singer-songwriter and cultural ambassador, who has been riding out the pandemic in Turkey. Maya’s inspiring, infectious -- and highly danceable -- music has taken her on a worldwide outreach journey, and we hope you enjoy coming along for the ride as much as we did. We talk about the power of personal storytelling to connect across differences, how to have a global artistic career, and what it really means to be fearless. Afterwards, you can hear Emily and Sarah discuss their respective hair journeys and then switch to the much lighter topic of the riot at the Capitol. If you feel the analysis of last Wednesday’s events has lacked certain insights, as well as fashion critique and a (hopefully mostly accurate) summary of what happened at Jonestown as it relates to the ongoing Q phenomenon (and cults in general), have we got the commentary for you. FOLLOW MAYA http://mayaazucena.com/ Featured music is “Fearless,” “You Matter” and “Prettiest” by Maya Azucena, courtesy of the artist. GUEST BIO Maya Azucena, a magnetically inspirational woman, is known for making music that uplifts the soul. Among several awards for her music and humanitarian outreach, Azucena garnered a Grammy Certificate for contributing her 4-octave range and soul-stylings to a feature performance with Stephen Marley on Best Reggae Album of the Year, “Mind Control.” Critically acclaimed, Brooklyn-native Maya is an avid independent touring artist and songwriter performing globally. Recent concerts include a 17-country tour of Europe in February 2019; Java Jazz Fest (Indonesia), CapeTown Jazz Fest (South Africa), Port Au Prince International Jazz Fest (Haiti), Rio Das Ostras Blues & Jazz Fest (Brazil), Moscow International House of Music (Russia), Pula Arena (Croatia), Delhi International Arts Festival (India), Hollywood Bowl (Los Angeles), Blue Note Hawaii, Blue Note New York, and Essence Fest in New Orleans alongside the likes of Beyonce, Jill Scott and Maxwell. For the last 3 summers, Azucena has done concert residencies at Bodrum Marina Yacht Club in Turkey, as well as luxury resorts including Lujo Hotel, Regnum Carya Golf Club, and Six Sense Kaplankaya. Maya performed an exclusive concert with her Turkish orchestra, singing her original songs arranged for Çukurova State Symphony of Adana. She was also included in Istanbul’s 2017 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, performing her song “Fearless” for the finale of Çigdem Akin’s runway show. Maya collaborates extensively on stage and recordings with both national and international stars. Her collaborations have included Marcus Miller, Brass Against, Jason Miles, DJ Spinna, DJ Logic, Fitz and the Tantrums, Vernon Reid, and Bob Sinclair. Maya is well known for her humanitarian outlook and projects around The Globe which include special focus on Women’s & Youth Empowerment and Domestic/Sexual Violence. Based on a personal commitment to help the world through her talent, most of Maya’s songs are anthems that lend a voice to self-worth, empowerment, overcoming obstacles, and stepping into our “fearless” selves

Guest Of The Week Vincenza Carrieri-Russo As the new Executive State Director of the Miss Delaware USA & Miss Delaware Teen USA Pageants, under the Miss Universe Organization, Vincenza advocates empowering women and breaking barriers. The Miss Universe Organization is the most prestigious pageant organization in the world. Vincenza provides young women the opportunity to have a voice and make a difference in their community. However, she is no stranger to pageantry. Prior to capturing the coveted Miss Delaware United States crown in 2014 and securing the 2nd runner-up spot at the national Miss United States Pageant, Vincenza competed in pageants for many years, winning dozens of titles along the way. One highlight was when Vincenza was selected as Miss Delaware USA and competed on primetime national television in the 2008 Miss USA Pageant in Las Vegas. She was also the first representative from Delaware to compete in the 2010 Miss Italy USA Pageant, placing Top 6 in the nation. One of her more recent titles was being selected from over millions of women across the country as the first national Elite Miss Earth USA 2015. Vincenza works as a model, actress, and event hostess. She has walked the catwalk in New York City for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, done catalog and print work, appeared in feature films, emceed and hosted dozens of events, fundraisers and nationally televised pageants, and has even been featured on the cover of numerous magazines. Vincenza also maintains a thriving television career and has filmed over 40 commercials for such well-known names as Fiat, Mercedes, Maserati, Conair, Bikini Zone and Sugar House Casino. Vincenza’s life, however, is not all about glitz, celebrity and crowns, although she is the “queen of the kitchen” at her new restaurant, the Vincenza & Margherita Italian-American Bistro! The restaurant, which opened in 2014, is the brainchild of Vincenza and younger sister Margherita, 3rd generation restaurateurs. In just a little over two years, the V&M Bistro has garnered hundreds of glowing reviews and was selected for impressive recognition including Best of Delaware Awards 2015-2020 for Best Italian Cuisine, Best Specialty Cocktails, Best Homemade Pasta & Best Contemporary Italian. Inside, the chic atmosphere is equal to any New York or Los Angeles hot spot. The bar is staffed with expert mixologists who create award-winning combinations like the Caramel Apple Martini or the famous Limoncello Ice Martini served with in-house made Italian lemon ice and fresh limoncello. And, V&M’s ever changing menu contains everything from delicious pasta handcrafted on site, to freshly baked bread, plus creative takes on classic favorites like Eggplant Parmigiano with Gnocchi, Timballo, and Linguini Frutti Di Mare, as well as exclusive V&M Pizzettes. (Due to Covid-19, V&M Bistro is currently operating as a TAKE OUT business and has reinvented their entire business model in order to survive this pandemic) In her spare time, Vincenza works tirelessly at Success Won’t Wait, the literacy organization she co-founded in 2002, when she was just an 18-year-old high school senior. Over the past 19 years, she has been active in promoting literacy and has helped collect and redistribute well over 1 million books to communities, schools and organizations in need throughout the US and abroad. Vincenza has been honored with several prestigious awards for her ongoing literacy efforts like the State of Delaware Jefferson Award, the Daily Points of Light Award as the Nation’s Volunteer of the Day, the Governor’s Outstanding Volunteer Award, and more. Vincenza was also honored with a National Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for outstanding community service. She even has a day named after her; In Newark, Delaware: July 15th is “Vincenza Carrieri-Russo Day.” She is also a spokesperson for Lupus, a disease she has suffered with since 2011. In the seven years since her diagnosis, Vincenza has worked tirelessly to educate the public about this often misunderstood and misdiagnosed disease. Her fundraising and awareness efforts include an annual 5K Walk “Team Vincenza/Beyond The Crown” and numerous speaking engagements. She even recently appeared as the cover story for Health Monitor's Arthritis Magazine’s expose on Lupus. Living a Heart-Centered Life with Noel Elie It's easy to get lost in the supposed “normal” flow of life. By doing so, we hope it would lead us to the right place. But what we fail to see is this only leads us to go against our own flow, our own pursuit of our dreams and passions. Conforming to societal standards can become a stumbling block to our growth and success. So, how can we choose to live in our own flow? In today's episode, we’re joined by Noel Elie to explore what limits us from doing what we love. Noel shares how learning how to say “no” has helped her realize that she has a choice in everything. She discusses how she strikes a balance between finding success and doing her craft. She also shares the challenges and lessons she learned amid the pandemic. If you want to start living an unapologetic life, then this episode is perfect for you! Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Discover the power of intuition in making the right decisions. How does writing down a happiness list help free your soul? Find out Noel’s definition of freedom and unconditional love and how she feels radically loved. Resources Noel Elie Productions Armchair Expert FREE workbook! Apply the lessons you learn from this episode as you listen! Enter your email below, and I’ll send it right away! Episode Highlights Noel’s Background She experienced what it was like to be multiracial when she moved to South Carolina from Florida.  She moved to New York to pursue her dreams two days after she graduated high school. Although she found success in modeling, it became unhealthy when she developed an eating disorder.  She went from modeling to producing at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. After meeting Gabby Bernstein, one thing led to another, and she eventually created her own event company. Now, she gets to work with her skill sets while still following her passion. Creating Boundaries Setting boundaries is an uphill battle for Noel. It’s enriching, enlightening, and heartbreaking. There are days when she would be at the beach every day; other days, she wouldn't get out of bed. As she read through articles and videos of activists, she couldn’t help but feel helpless. She feels victimized as she looks back on what it was like being biracial. Noel is also learning how much she can devote to creating boundaries and taking care of herself without feeling selfish. We’re all in this fight, and she’s taking it one day at a time. Deciding What to Focus on It's a matter of setting boundaries. Noel's philosophy in life is this: “Jump, and the net will appear.” She says yes to things that make her feel good and no to things that don't. She trusts her gut and her intuition, and it has never failed her. It’s about finding the balance between having success in certain areas and doing your craft. She continues learning from her mistakes and growing from them. After her mom passed away, it put things in perspective on how she wants to live her life. Learning When to Say “No” Her intuition is very strong and steadfast. Sometimes she chooses to listen to it, and sometimes she doesn't. She has already seen red flags whenever she chooses not to listen to that voice. It's about shattering societal standards when you go against the flow of saying “yes.” Once you've tapped into that, you know that you have a choice. When she's creating, she wants to be in spirit as much as she can. When You Don’t See Your Future Although Noel has accomplished a lot, her life has not been all rainbows and butterflies. We all have a choice whether we want to be happy or in despair. Her mom chose to go beyond having a horrific childhood and getting cancer. Make a happiness list, and write down all the things that bring you joy. You can start with small steps. Once you start doing that, your soul will feel free. Inevitably, you’ll live in your own flow. Navigating Life Amid a Pandemic She got diagnosed with cyst fibroids, and she has been living with chronic pain for the past years. One of the ways to shrink the fibroids is to have a completely clean diet. Not being able to go out of the house stripped away a lot in her life. The pandemic has forced her to sit with different parts of herself that aren’t so pretty. It became her wake-up call to start listening to her body. It is also an opportunity for her to slow down. Looking Forward She's restructuring her company and up-leveling a lot of things. She trusts that she's being guided every day. For Noel, it feels liberating when she can surrender and be sure that there is a reason for wherever she's going. As someone with physical touch as a love language, she’s excited to hug her friends and meet them face to face. Noel’s Definition of . . . Freedom — Speaking her truth with no apology Unconditional love — From her mom’s wisdom, it is to fall in love with as many people and as many things as possible. A heart full of love is a heart that’s full. Feeling radically loved — Being fully supported and held and safe 5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode [08:54] “I'm really grateful to the white people that have been sharing and messing up and continuing to share and learn, right? Because I think a lot of people will just sit back and say, ‘This isn't my fight.’ And I think we're all one, and we're in this together, and so I'm taking it one day at a time.” [13:08] “I feel like some of my biggest lessons in life have been from my mistakes. And so continuing to say yes, say no, when it doesn't feel good, and then also forgiving myself when I fuck up.” [14:39] “How do you want to live it? Do you want to waste it, worrying about what people think of you? Or do you want to follow your purpose and your passion, and, you know, hopefully, it'll lead you to the right place?” [19:20] “Do you want to go by societal standards, or do you want to go and move how you want to move?” [33:46] “Fall in love every day with as many people and as many things as possible because a heart full of love is a heart that's full.” About Noel Noel Elie is the founder of the production and PR company Noel Elie Productions, LLC. Meet Miss Dominique Jackson Transgender model, Dominique Jackson shares her story has taken her from the island of Tobago to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City to the reality show Strut to serving her LGBTQ community at Destination Tomorrow. Her story will inspire you. Model & Reality Show Star Dominique Jackson “It all began with a high five.” In an incredibly competitive industry, it’s easy to begrudge the success of another model or actor, to view a colleague’s achievement as if they’ve taken something away from you. But successful transgender model Dominique Jackson rejects such a scarcity mindset, celebrating the success of her colleagues. In fact, the simple gesture of a high five sent waves through the community—and led to the opportunity to do reality series Strut. Dominique grew up in privilege in Trinidad and Tobago but was ultimately rejected by her family over her gender identity. She moved to the US in 1990 and started school while she was transitioning. Dominique has encountered her share of obstacles, from homelessness to drug and alcohol abuse to survival sex work, but a combination of intuition, belief and therapy have allowed her to view those challenges as a test that helped Dominique realize just how far she can go. Dominique paid her dues in the modeling industry, doing a number of free shows before landing a job as a resident model with Adrian Alicea in 2009. This break led to her first appearance at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week that same year. Today Dominique shares the trajectory of her modeling and acting career, as well as her challenging personal journey as a transgender woman. She explains how a shift in mindset and a healthy dose of discipline helped Dominique see her way clear of $10,000 in credit card debt, and how she came to serve as Director of Programming for Destination Tomorrow. Learn about her work to support the LGBTQ community and how to adopt a mentality of abundance. Get all the resources here: https://debtfreeguys.com/transgender-model-dominique-jackson/

"Be Likable, Credible and Trustworthy" Erin Gargan I first met Erin Gargan at the 2016 ISPA Convention that took place in Las Vegas. I heard Erin speak and was instantly a fan. A millennial who is crushing online media, Erin shares so many terrific insights around best practices when it comes to social media. We begin our conversation around the work she does with companies but stay tuned as we pivot the conversation into how we can use social media to deepen our connections and expand our reach even if we work for ourselves. Erin discusses the importance of, "Serving not Selling" and whatever your reason for being on social media she shares the top strategies to think about when considering your online audience. We discuss the millennial question that went viral a few months ago, and I have included the link to this interview with Simon Sinek below. Erin also talks about the shadow side of social media and the importance of balancing our screen time with face to face time. I love Erin's take on social media and that it is not the posts that we put online that will make the impact, but rather "how shareable" the information and inspiration is that we decide to post. We end this interview with discussing how to best influence your online dating profile (should you have one) to attract the right types of people to you and into your life. Whether you are dating online, your business is online, or you are online for social media only, you will walk away with tons of new insights as to how to make technology work in your favor. Katja of Sweden – den första att (framgångsrikt) exportera svenskt mode

Stil

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 1, 2013 54:19

Hon gick nyligen i konkurs.
