Robin Hood didn't start the trend but rather it defined what a summer blockbuster should be: hire a star-studded cast, dress them all in incredible costuming, film in stunning set locations, don't write an overcomplicated script, and pepper in enough humor so as not to take yourself too seriously. This movie was so much in the public zeitgeist that kids were playing Merry Men and Sheriffs instead of Cops and Robbers... well maybe not but I like to think so.
