We start off talking about preservation of television video from the late 90's and 2000's - and why it looks a lot worse today than we remember when it first aired. PEGI has reclassified Balatro and Luck Be A Landlord down to a PEGI-12 rating from a PEGI-18, which was given because it had elements of gambling. PEGI's statement described how it was modifying its rating rules to account for "fantastical elements" in games like Balatro. EA has released the source code for many of their Command & Conquer titles, which are fun to go through and will help the modding community greatly, but won't really teach you how to make a game in 2025. Warner Bros is closing Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB Games San Diego, and cancelling their projects, including a Wonder Woman game. Monolith Productions had patented the "Nemesis" system from Shadow of Mordor, and now Warner Bros holds on to the patent until 2036, while most likely not using it in any more games - but will stop other games from incorporating the same mechanic. Then we talk about how March is gonna have a lot of great game releases.

This week, Zak and Aaron revisit the world of Marvel Rivals, albeit tangentially and under less than pleasant circumstances. Herní kompozici totiž vystudoval v době, kdy byl herní průmysl ještě v plenkách nebo spíš ve svém pravěku. Však taky Schymanovi, původním povoláním filmovému skladateli trvalo, než se do her pustil. Když se tak konečně stalo, pustil se do toho ovšem naplno. Je podepsán pod takovými kousky jako Bioshock, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Destroy All Humans nebo Guild Wars 2, a kousek té své staré školy, výpravné orchestrální kompozice, přinesl do branže v době, kdy se v tom řada jeho kolegů teprve rozkoukávala. Letos sedmdesátiletý Schyman je nezastavitelný, pořád skládá, a tak se od něj nejspíš ještě nějaké další kouzelné kompozice dočkáme. Talion caught a bad break. Not only did Sauron kill his family in front of him, but he was killed too! And then an elf spirit had the nerve to possess him and send him on a rampage of vengeance across Mordor! What a revolting predicament. This open world game's big hook is the Nemesis system, which supercharges the sandbox with an evolving army of captains and rivals for you to hunt and manipulate. The story is pretty bland, but you can't deny that this is one of the most inventive open world games to come out in a long time. Thank you, I See Spiders!

We start by saying we won't be talking about the GameStop stonk, and then talk about it for a few minutes. But, it's really not a video game story, and financial investing kinda isn't our thing. Warner Bros has finally been granted a patent on the Nemesis system from 2014's Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, which means you won't see anything like it in other games until 2035. Which takes us down a rabbit hole of video game patents that have expired (games inside loading screens, practice mode button display, arrows to point you to an objective), some expiring soon (sphere grids, sanity meters, stylish driving trackers), and some expiring in a while (rolling up objects to become bigger, using a wheel to pick dialogue choices, controlling two characters at once with a single input.) Then we talk to OLR about why GameStop is important to people enough to use them as their stonks rallying cry.
